We had a wonderful holiday in Biarritz staying at Villa Clairette. The house is in a great location, with easy access to beach (for surfing!), the market (for great food!) and the town centre (for everything else!). The house is well equiped with everything you could need for your holiday, especially if travelling with children. Our 1 year old enjoyed all the toys, and the playground nearby. The kitchen is lovely - lots of space and equipment to cook meals with the lovely produce from the market. Highly recommended!! Hopefully we'll be back again!!

I traveled with my daughter to Villa Clairette. We were very impressed with the property and the property manger, Emily. I think the best qualities of the property are:
1. a very open great room kitchen area
2. a perfectly equipped kitchen - gas stove, lots of space, high end appliances and pots and pans
3. great lighting with lots of windows. We stayed for a week and it was sunny only three days but the villa was very light and cheerful because of the large windows/doors and skylights
4. The market is a couple of blocks away as is the ocean
5. A park is outside the door and watching the kids play the Basque game of "racketball" is a blast
6. We took a few day trips to Spain from here (1.5 hours to Bilbao, about 40 minutes to San Sebastian)
7. The neighbors are very sweet. They allowed us to park in their space. Please be sure to bring them flowers :)
Feel free to contact us with any questions. We give it a huge thumbs up!!!

A wonderful, spacious mini "villa”. Great location a bit away from the heavy tourist area in a quite neighborhood adjacent to a lovely little park and a short walk from the market hall, Carrefour and boulangerie. A generous common living space and all of the amenities you could want including a well stocked kitchen. The private patio was truly private and large and with the 3 sets of French doors, extended the living space significantly. While there is no parking included with the rental, there is plenty of free street parking. The only caution here is that we not there during peak time. There were only two of us but this could easily accommodate a family or larger group, especially with two full bathrooms. Our host, Emily, was very accommodating and helpful with recommendations. While visiting, you must visit Emily and her mother's new venture, the Milwaukee Cafe in the market hall ... and marvel at their ability to switch back and forth between upper midwest accented English (well, Mom anyway) and French without missing a beat.

Tucked away next to a park with play ground this is a great location to explore Biarritz with young children. We parked the car and walked everywhere only using it when we went down to Spain for day trips which is so close. Emily was extreemly helpful, answering all of our questions and giving great recommendations for eateries and general information for getting around. The house is newly renovated and the kitchen is extreemly well equiped for cooking all of that amazing produce we collected at the markets only 5 minutes walk from the house. Everything is well thougth out with beach towels for the sun and childrens toys and games for rainy days.

Great market near by and the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in. Walk to beach for those who can do lots of steps. Surf was good and Emily helped us set up lessons. Parking by arrangement with neighbour who was very accomodating. Easy walk to lots of restaurants and city centre. The alleyway access to the property looks a bit grim but inside is a haven: clean and well thought out. Many events at the park beside the property.

My wife and her parents stayed at Villa Clairette for 10 days in June this year. Typically, we go the hotel route, but decided to try a property rental for a change. Despite my initial concerns (1 house, 2 in-laws, 10 days), it was a great experience and there was more than enough room and privacy.
The house is really cool. It is on a side street so very quiet. You enter the property through a non-descript gate and find yourself in a brick-paved private courtyard. The house is positioned well so there is good morning and afternoon sun, while the palm tree in the center of the courtyard provides enough shade for those with sun-burnt shoulders!
The home had everything that we needed and everything was new. The kitchen was the best asset as it was well stocked with every tool you could imagine (the central wok burner on the hob was my favorite). There was a new entertainment system, but we only used the i-Pod dock to listen to our music. Overall, the house is really tastefully decorated, well laid-out and extremely comfortable.
We really enjoyed wandering into the market in the mornings, picking up some food for dinner - fresh fish/seafood/meats/vegetables/cheese. Baguettes on the beach for lunch (5 minutes walk) and then cooking in the evening and eating outside in the courtyard with a bottle of wine. This became our daily ritual as the quality of the produce in the market and the house so delightful that we did not eat a meal out.
My in-laws are in their 70's so preferred to laze around the house on the patio furniture, rather then hitting the beach. There are 3 sets of patio doors that open up into the courtyard, so it makes the house and the courtyard feel like one giant space.
Although Biarritz is a small city, it seems to be divided in 2 areas – the tourist area and the locals area. The house is located in the "locals" area so you really get a sense of living in a secluded beach community in France. The Grande Plage is where most people go, but we opted for one of the smaller beaches. There are a string of beaches as you head along the coast towards Spain.
I would definitely recommend this property and we will be back, with or without the in-laws! -

LondonAn oasis of tranquility in charming Biarritz!
Left on 04/27/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Our Easter week stay at Villa Clairette was perfect in every way! We were greeted upon arrival by the owner's friend and property manager Emily, a local (with perfect English), who was very friendly and had a wealth of knowledge about the area. The house is nestled in between a park and the town centre. With high walls, and a courtyard built around a huge palm tree, it was private and tranquil inside. The house itself is newly renovated (I think we may have been one of the first renters!) with brand new state of the art appliances and a huge chef's kitchen which was fabulous. The light was incredible, enhanced by an open floorplan, loft, and numerous windows and skylights. Although we were just two persons, you could easily fit a family or another couple in the house. The house was also stocked with necessities such as a washer/dryer, iron, kitchen set, etc... truly no detail was missed. We never felt like we were staying in a rental home, and after only a week at Villa Clairette we did not want to leave!
In addition to the house, the location was incredible. After just a 2 minute walk down the street you will find the famous surfers beach, where you could take surf lessons, watch the surfers in awe, or enjoy a cocktail at the Cent Marches (at the top of the a cliff overlooking the beach). Just a few minutes down the road and you hit the famous Biarritz market .. Finally, after just another minute or two walk and you are in the centre of town.
If you've never been, Biarritz is a charming town, with plenty to do, great restaurants, and a laid back beach culture. The locals are incredibly nice and always make you feel welcome. The food is outstanding everywhere we went. The Basque's clearly take their food seriously.
In summary, this was probably the best holiday my wife and I have had in many years, and the Villa Clairette was the most perfect house we've ever rented! We will definitely be back!
