Riedlingen, a city of long traditions, lies right between the Bussen, Upper Swabia’s holy mountain and the Swabian Alb, in a picture-perfect landscape of meadows and fields. It is a small town of about 10300 inhabitants and well-known to be one of the most beautiful cities along the Danube.
The UNESCO biosphere reserve Swabian Alb is close by. It covers an area of some 85000 hectares, encompassing 29 settlements. At its heart is the former military training grounds MĂĽnsingen, which was given up in 2005 and represents one of the largest continuous area in Baden-WĂĽrttemberg. (More info at www.unesco.de/schwaebischealb.html)
The historic old town of Riedlingen is under heritage protection. A large part of its city walls are still extant, and the idyllic Donauwehr construction gives the small town particular flair. The German Framework Road, the Upper Swabian Baroque Road and the Danube bicycle trail all pass through Riedlingen.
High points on the event calendar are the Floh, Gallus and Fohlen markets and the Swabian Alemannic Fasnet (Carnival).
