Los AngelesAwesome Experience
Left on 03/15/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This is my 2nd year in a row staying in Bear's Trail Cabin and hopefully this becomes an annual tradition for me. I went with a few friends for my b-day and we all had an amazing time. My favorite feature of this cabin is the fact that you can walk out the back door, take a few more steps and you're in the forest. Me and my friends explored the woods for hours. There were plenty of great slopes to go sledding.
In addition, the drive into town only takes a few minutes so we tried out a few bars while we were there. It was a great environment with a very lively crowd. I would definitely recommend bears trail!... but watch out for El Chupacabra...he was everywhere! -

When we opened the door to get inside the cabin we going the pullout couchs matters out of the couch and it was leaning agents the wall with the picture frame on the floor and a broken light in it right also damaged on the floor. So I start cleaning up the broken glass and report all damages over the phone. A great hour wasted!!! Not so happy.

San DiegoNever again..well maybe if they replace the couch
Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in January 2013
Checking in and out was easy. The cabin was ready by the scheduled check-in time. The cleanliness of the cabin was mediocre. An update about the couch which several reviewers commented on: The couch is not just uncomfortable, it is broken. There is no way any person of any size can sit on it. So I tried to make the best of it and opened it up to the fold out bed - no use. Springs were broken. The mattress topper for the couch bed was filthy, as was the couch itself. Basically we could not use the downstairs living area because of this. I called Big Bear Cool Cabins, and they offered me two bundles of wood; the problem here is that we could not enjoy the fireplace even if we wanted to because there was no couch to sit on. I provided pictures below of the couch; I wish I had taken some pictures of what the couch looked like all folded up. Basically if you sat on it in its original position, you would fold into a "V." This needs to be replaced, and for a rental/income property, this should be an easy fix; there is no excuse! Big Bear Cool Cabins staff should make better efforts to avoid this type of problem, especially since they supposedly clean and inspect the cabin after each visit. Anyone that is not blind can see the couch is not fit for use.
On the upper hand, there were several, very nice sledding areas right through the back yard, which was much needed since staying in the cabin wasn't exactly a comfortable option.
The upstairs/bedroom was in decent condition. That bed was fairly comfortable.
Though I may book with big bear cool cabins again in the future, this cabin is definitely off the list.

Manager
Hello J.P.,
Thank you for leaving this review. We want you to know that we do take our guests and the comments we receive very seriously. Mostly, I wanted to take a moment and update you on the things you mentioned- as Bear’s Trail is one of favorite Cool Cabins and normally we get great reports. First off I did speak to housekeeping about the cleanliness of the cabin and to make sure they do a thorough job. We did go out and inspect it and found that it was in immaculate condition, we wish to offer our sincere apologies if that was not the case while you were there. The biggest thing we wanted to let you know, as well as any other potential renter is that the owner purchased a beautiful new couch that doubles as a sleeper sofa. Please feel free to check out the new pictures on our website. Once again we do apologize for any short comings on our part and we look forward to doing business with you in the future.
Best Regards,
The Big Bear Cool Cabins Team

This was our first cabin rental, and all in all, we were very pleased. The cabin was well furnished and seemed to supply just enough of the essentials to assure that even if we forgot a few things, we could find something in the cupboards that would work. We were here in the summer so we did not experience the issues with the stairs as had been described by others, although we could certainly see that they would be scary in the winter. We had a nice time Bbqing on the deck - although I recommend the owner take a look at some of the boards - it looks like 3 of them could break through pretty soon under a heavy foot. We chose this particular cabin because it was a bit more off the beaten path, away from the town, so we were hoping for quiet. The only drawback was the sounds of the airport during the daytime - a little too close to city sounds for a real backwoods illusion, but still nice and woodsy all around. We would still choose this location in the future.

Very cute cabin, however the pictures don't even begin to do justice to those stairs. Very slippery and steep. My husband slipped and fell 6 steps before he could catch himself. My recommendation would be to use the steps out the backdoor. Great location, very quiet yet fairly close to town.

It was our first time going to big Bear so we were kind of nervous after reading a few reviews about cabins, but from the moment we entered this cabin we felt welcome. it was very nice and clean. Everything was working properly. Very close to everything, prize was excellent, the best of all the check in was absolutely easy. I will be back soon:)

The best part about the cabin is the backyard. Once you step out the back door you are pretty much in the forest. Me and my friends spent hours just exploring the woods. If your taking sleds there are a bunch of great spots just a few minutes walk from the cabin. At night time the sky is completely sparkling with stars. If you are used to the city life like i am than Bear's Trail is definately a great get away for a trip with friends or family.

Chino HillsCozy Thanksgiving 2011 Family Vacation
Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011
This was our first time in Big Bear and first time renting a cabin. Basically it was my husband, myself and 2 small children. The 22 steps to get into the cabin was a minor glitch for my husband who was responsible for bringing the luggage and boxes of food for the 3 days we stayed. Aside from that, its very small, cozy, clean well kept everything worked. The sofa bed was not comfortable at all. The good thing is the bed upstairs was large enough to fit 2 big adults and 2 squirmy kids. Overall we loved it. I didn't see the trails everyone else talked about...its not walking distance to the village but close enough. I thought the property management company was awesome. On Thanksgiving I called to report the garage disposal was not working and within the hour they sent someone out to fix it. All the emails and instruction about the cabin were right on. Would I stay again? Not with my whole family becasue I like having mroe space. I would rent it again if its just me and my husband. I would also recommend it to other small families. I just tend to like my space...

Rented this cabin for a weekend trip with my wife and two daughters. The cabin was great, very clean, and everything that I would expect in the kitchen (pots, pans, knives, dishes, glasses, etc.) was there.
The only downside was the long staircase up to the cabin (the picture shows about half of it). -

My Husband & I had a great 2 night stay for our 2 yr. anniversary. We really enjoyed this cozy, little cabin! If you have alot of luggage just becareful as there are alot of steep steps that lead to the front door. The views are beautiful from the front balcony and the bedroom upstairs too. It was a nice and peaceful gettaway!

Cute cabin! Very comfortable! It had everything we needed. It was perfect for my little family of three. It is in a little quiet neighborhood. It's a bit far from downtown, but we did not mind. There is a little trail in the back, but we did not explore it. The cabin is tastefuly decorated. I do have one complain. The televesion in the living room never worked. We followed all the directions the owner had left to try to fix it but the occupants before us really had messed it up. Also the fake tree upstairs in the bed roon has got to be thrown out. It was dusty and full of webs and moths. Other than that we had a wonderful stay.

Our three days and two nights at Big Bear Lake were wonderful. The cabin was very nice and comfortable. However, we were not prepared for the 23 steps to the front door. We assumed that the steps shown in the photo were to an upper balcony, not to the front door. We left the cooler in the truck rather than haul it up and down those stairs. The two propane grills had been converted to charcoal.

Left on 03/02/2011 for a stay in February 2011
This cabin was great. It sits away from the road in the back of a narrow lot that is basically a hill. If you don't mind the fairly steep wooden staircase (approx 25 steps up) to enter, this place was great for the price. In good condition, quaint, but perfect for a family of 3 or 4. Would we stay there again, yes.

the cabin with the back on the national forest gives you a lot of space to play. you don't have to go pay for the snow plays cause there's a lot of places in the back to go snow play. you have to bring coal though cause the grill is not gas as advertised. otherwise the cabin is very good for a small family.

The location was a great spot. The beds were really hard and uncomfortable. Especially the couch bed! The springs in the mattress were horrible. Pretty expensive for just a few people. And it smelled funny, like fried food, the whole time we were there. Easy check in. Friendly people on phone.

This cabin was perfect my husband and I with our 1 year old. The location was great and we didn't have to drive anywhere to go sledding or play in the snow. If you plan to cook you might want to bring your own pots and pans though there wasn't too much to work with. We would definitely stay there again though!

Enjoyed the place and it is well cared for. The driveway and stairs are a little challenging for the elderly or small children because of the steepness. But it was not a surprise as the picture indicates you have a bit of climb to the front door. It worked well for us since we had a 4 wheel drive to get into the driveway which was snow covered. But the lighting needs to be addressed. No lighting in the kitchen at all to cook by. This was a real problem and made that part of the trip less enjoyable. Fix this and it would be much more inviting.

Overall, it was clean, decent location. But, too many stairs (and steep) to get into the cabin. With two little kids - we had to carry them up and down the steep steps everytime we came and went. The sofa bed was sooo uncomfortable.
