San DiegoI expected more
Left on 01/04/2012 for a stay in December 2011
I never do reviews but I read them. The reason I don't do it is becuause most of the time I get what I expect. Not this time. The cabin was ok, in nice neigborhood. The amenities though were missing alot. The kitchen was supposed to be fully equipped, but I couldn't even find a basic can opener. the pots and pans are way old. The fire place was nice but it was missing the stuff to turn the fire over and move around, ie picks and clamps. The heater would turn downstairs like a sauna and upstairs would still be cold. The covers (comforters & blanckets) for the beds were thin and good for summer days not for winter and cold nights. The bath towels are like wash cloth but in a larger version. It seemed that nobody has updated this cabin for a long time and does not pay attention to accomodation. We made the best out of our stay but someone needs to replenish this cabin soon specially for the price that is charged.

Orange County, CAFamily Winter Vacation
Left on 12/23/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We rented the cabin for a week in December. We had no issues with Big Bear Vacations they were very helpful and responsive to our needs.
The cabin itself is located near the very top of Moonridge. The roads to the cabin are winding and, at times, steep. Since it was winter when we visited they were also very icy. As these are small roads they are not really ever cleared, at least not while we were there. Due to these conditions I do not recommend driving these roads without four wheel drive in the winter.
The cabin is located far from the busy streets of Big Bear City. It's remoteness gets very high marks from us. If you are looking for remote and peaceful this is the place. If you are looking for something to use as a base to hit the town, I would look elsewhere. There were several sledding places in the forest nearby the cabin. Big Bear Ski Resort is a several minute drive away. Summit is lot farther.
The cabin itself is well apportioned. The white couches in the photos have been replace with brown sofas that are very comfortable and much more little kid friendly. The kitchen has a good set of dishes and cups and a so-so set of cookware.
The upstairs loft has a pool table, card table, chess set, and TV. Perfect games area for the kids (and adult kids too). The ceiling in the living room directly below the loft is open beam and the floor of the loft. There is no noise insulation between the floors. People walking in the loft make a lot squeeking noise in the room below. We ended up just joining the kids upstairs. Problem solved and family playing together.
We will be returning to the cabin again.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 01/30/2012

Left on 12/29/2010 for a stay in December 2010
The house was awesome. The backyard was big and we were able to build a small 'sled trail' for the kids. The house itself was clean, well-kept, and spacious.
I do have 2 complaints though. The 'House Manual' stated that there was internet, and it was clearly visible on my computer as "Cozy Bear". But, the internet was locked and the front desk had no idea what the pw was. I got 3 different answers from 3 different people. Also, taking the trash all the way down to the main street was very cumbersome.
Other than that, the house itself was awesome. We probably won't go there again though. -

Wonderful home for parents with teens or young adults. The upstairs game room was nice to have since we spent most of our vacation inside because of rain/snowstorms. We would rent this comfortable home in a this quiet neighborhood again.

This was a last minute decision to go overnight to Big Bear and stay in a cabin with the family then head down to Lake Gregory before we went home. With it being Labor Day weekend, Big Bear Vacation rentals was able to book us an awesome cabin and even give us a great flat rate which took us by surprise. Jackie was the name of the lady who made this happen for us and will be the reason we go again and again. Kudos to Jackie! The cabin was very clean and everything we needed was there. Everything was in great working condition and I couldnt find anyhting to complain about. This was the third time w have rented from this company and never once had an unpleasant expeirance. We are already planning on coming back the first week of October for a longer stay!!!

Orange County, CANot that cozy
Left on 04/29/2010 for a stay in March 2010
We picked the Cozy Bear Lair for its big gated backyard since we have kids. When we pulled up, the kitchen window was wide open, the outside gate was knocked over, probably from the snow and the frontyard had a lot of trash, paper cups and many cigarette butts strewn about. The backyard patio was heaped too high to safely let the kids out to get to the big yard anyway. Our five year old did manage to hold on enough to get down the backsteps and make a snowman which was nice. But, he later told us that he removed the mouse from the trap back there and buried it in the snow. Yuck. The kitchen was the other unsafe area as two of the chairs were broken and could not be safely used. We had to sit the kids on our laps to all fit around the table. While it was big enough and had a lovely fireplace, it was dark and dirty and maybe a good place for a bear but not our family.

I have used Big Bear Vacations on numerous occasions and have always received EXCELLENT and friendly service. The fact that the rental office is right down the street from Snow Summit is especially convenient. This trip was just for the guys to close out the ski season. Getting to this cabin was a little winding, but the place was great. Beautiful living room, large kitchen, bar-b-qued steaks on the back deck, had a pool tournament upstairs in the loft. Had so much fun we plan on making this an annual trip! Nice quiet neighborhood, saw plenty of wildlife. The only negative was the snow from the roof had all shed onto the back porch, so there wasn't much room to kick back. However, overall our stay was outstanding.

The house is located in a very quiet area. It has a perfect game room that includes a pool table and all kinds of board games. It is overall a nice and cozy place where I would like to return in the near future.
