Downey, CaShort from pefect yet Still an Enjoyable Stay.
Left on 05/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Clean and comfortable stay, yet there where a few problems resulting from use. The screen on front door needed repair, electrical outlet plate in kitchen was detached from electrical box, heater in bathroom did not work and DVD player broke down while used. Despite these problems, our family stay was very enjoyable. Place was clean and dust free, beds & sofa very comfortable, Propane was filed on BBQ, all other devices worked perfectly. I would not only recommended this cabin (once these repairs are made) to friends, I would also select this cabin again for a return stay this year.

Litchfield Park, AZCozy, comfortable cabin
Left on 03/29/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Bear Cub is a nice little cabin just outside of town. The cabin was very clean and well-maintained. The driveway is a little tricky because it's located just below the crest of a hill and it's very difficult to see oncoming traffic. Its also steep, and short. The neighbors are quite close, with a small yard. However, there are lots of trails in the area, so the yard wasn't a concern to us.
The two bedrooms are very small, but also very clean. The master bedroom had a nice, comfortable king-sized bed which takes up most of the room. In the master, there is also a tiny, little mirror on the wall with a very small light (sort of a little Christmas tree light). It was very difficult to apply makeup so, if you're a woman, I recommend a lighted makeup mirror! When we first arrived, the bathroom light was not working. We contacted the office and they were over by the end of the day to repair the light switch.
My only complaint about the cabin was the furniture in the living room. The white couch is extremely stained, as are a number of the chairs in the room. The couch is, unfortunately, the first impression of the cabin because it's located beside the front door. I took a spare sheet and covered it because it really seemed dirty and old. I also moved all the old pillows to a corner of the room. If I were the owner, I'd replace the sofa and at least one of the chairs immediately. Other than the stained furniture, we absolutely loved our time at Bear Cub. -

It was all nice and clean. We felt what in a genuine mountain cabin feels like. The best part was that they sent a repairmen at 7 pm to fix the heater.

We had a great stay in the "Bear Cub" cabin. The bedrooms are on the small side, but the space that you have in the living and kitchen area make up for that. Having a washer and dryer was so nice. I was able to wash all our clothes at the cabin and pack all clean clothes for our trip back home. I would only suggest bringing a small space heater (which we did) and turn the ceiling fans on low so push the warm air down. It gets a bit chilly in the front bedroom and living room. We would stay at Bear Cub again we were very happy with the cabin.

ChinoDisappointing!!
Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We walked into a very very dirty cabin. The carpet, the furniture, the floor all were stained and dirty. I had to place blankets over all the furniture to even begin to feel comfortable sitting on it. When we arrived at 4PM the beds had not been changed, the bathroom was dirty and the carpeting had trash everywhere. On closer inspection you could tell this place needed a deep cleaning. Yuk! The lighting was terrible making it difficult to relax and even read a book. The location was fair enough, being close to Bear Mt., but I would definately skip this one and find something much more upscale for the price. Two thumbs down on this one.

Santa Monica CAPros and cons
Left on 12/03/2012 for a stay in December 2012
Pros: comfortable beds, plenty of seating in living room, big counter in kitchen, heater in bathroom works great, washer/dryer, mud room, close to zoo and bear mountain, great price
Cons: very busy and noisy street at all hours of day and night, neighbors house is close and noisy, very little light in living room, old furnishings and carpets, king bedroom is only room with heater vent and gets very hot and dry, other bedroom is freezing cold, no dish washer, shower/tub fits only skinny 3 feet tall dwarfs, toilet seat is broken and is tight in corner, toilet gurgles, far from lake, doesn't make you feel like your in the forest.
Suggestions to bring: heated blankets, extra blankets (none provided), paper plates, humidifier!!!, board games.

We really liked this cabin! A nice kitchen that is spacious & has lots of counter space. Liked having a clothes dryer! The dining table is nice - good for seating 8 & good for playing games! The king size bed is comfy and all was nice & clean! It does need new drapes & the sofa needs cleaning! The lighting in living room is really poor...need some new lamps!!! We would come back...all & all...a good place to stay!

Left on 09/15/2012 for a stay in August 2012
I was in charge of selecting the cabin and was worried I'd pick one that didn't meet my wife's sometimes unrealistic expectations. Thankfully this cabin met with her approval.
It was bigger than expected but still felt very cozy. The bedrooms are small, but are more than adequate. The kitchen had all the cooking utensils we needed and the breakfast bar was huge.
The biggest drawback is that it is located on a fairly busy road so we were hesitant to let our 3 year old play outside. Other than that the location is great, close to the lake and really close to Bear Mountain.Response from Big Bear Cool Cabins - 09/15/2012

Me and my family of four headed up the weekend of June 8th for the $50k trout derby, and brought our small boat with. For the first time in many years she left the booking up to me..So was not wanting to get the look of terror while entering the cabin. Instead i walk in then the kids and then my wife.I saw a big smile and approval right away. Very homey, and warm. Enjoyed our stay so much we are already talking about going again very soon. Had all we needed nice size kitchen, and nicely stocked. Good summer type cabin. Thanks, see ya soon!

I searched many hours and sites looking for a reasonable price cabin over the presidential holiday weekend. Since I was late in making reservations the good cabins were taken or the cabins that were not taken had bad reviews about them. I found the cool cabines website and found this bear cub jewel. It was perfect for the six of us (2 families). It was very clean and loved the long kitchen counter. We would definitely stay here again. You can feel the love the owners have for this cabin. Great location off of the main Moonridge drive. The dvd was not working. it was awesome

Great little place for our family of four (and two of our kid's friends)to stay. The service was great from the get-go. We arrived to Big bear early and they allowed us to check in early which was nice because we could see where we were going and what we were doing in the day light! They also allowed us and extra hour and a half for check-out!
The cabin offered warm, comfortable beds in both bedrooms, with a bit to be desired with the pull-out sofa for our two teens. The room with the sofa was larger and more difficult to keep warm, so I would simply suggest bringing your own warm blankets.
The second night of our stay we had difficulty with the grill outside, but when we called, they were there to assist us within minutes and they got everything working fine for us.
The cabin was fully equipped with all the kitchen necessities and clean linens and towels. I liked the fact that it was equipped with a washer and dryer as well as laundry detergent. I was able to wash all of our towels mid-stay, which was helpful.
It was close enough to town to be convenient, but far enough up the hill to feel that were were really in the mountains. Value for our dollar was well worth it. Bear Cub is the perfect fit for a family of four and not uncomfortable for the six of us as well!

Murrieta, CAWonderful Cabin
Left on 12/28/2011 for a stay in December 2011
We had a great weeklong stay in Bear Cub. The cabon was much nicer than we expected as it was one of the less expensive cabin options. The place was very clean and very cabiny.
The cabin is also well located between both ski resorts which is very nice as well.
The electrical is all older 2-prong outlets so you need to bring an adapter if you bring a computer or other device with a 3-prong power supply. Also, the driveway is a little steep so in winter months it can be icy and difficult.
Other than those two minor issues, our stay was perfect. -

Left on 07/27/2011 for a stay in July 2011
It was musty and windows were difficult to open. Fans were turned on and left to air out home. Screens could not be propped open. Couch is light colored and stained. Not ideal to sit on. Once in bed there was a spider crawling on otherwise clean sheets. I understand home is closed up but it was uncomfortable to not be sure if more spiders were under the covers.
The firewood was locked. More access would have been appreciated. No cables to connect DVD. there are 2 dvd players but there are no cables to connect to TV. Misleading in advert since it stated there was a DVD player. Lol just not working. And sadly we had brought our own Dvds to watch.

Left on 06/23/2011 for a stay in June 2011
The cabin was nice, quaint. Although we requested a King Bed, what we got was a bed that with the bedding on it looked like a king but in fact was 2 broken twin mattresses that were butted together not headboard to footboard but accross the bed which my husband and I ended up having to sleep on the twin beds and had out kids sleep on the pull out sofa. As well, when we booked bearcub they said there was a charcoal grill which in fact was a propane grill. We did enjoy ourselves nonetheless but.. the place definitely needed some airing out there was a potent smell in the living room like gas (not sure though) what it was. I would definitely come back but would confirm with management that these items were fixed before booking the same unit again.

Bear Cub was very cozy and spacious. The requirements for check-out were simple and clear and check-in was a breeze. The only thing I might suggest is making the house numbers more clear. We drove around for a while in the dark trying to find the right address, but once we found it, we were very pleased!

Initially, we were not too fond of the property being right on Moonridge Rd. But we quickly learned it was the best place to be. Because this road is a main vein to one of many ski destinations - the road was well tended to and taken care of. We never had to worry about getting in and out or icy conditions. The huge fireplace was reason to come home in and of itself. It was a great spot - close to everything but not too close.
