there were 6 of us that decided to stay here to help celebrate a birthday. The pictures seemed promising enough but the 2 big draws were the hot tub and each couple having a real bed in our own rooms and not a bunk bed. And the cabin is as described- with 3 bedrooms and bigger beds, however the size of the cabin with the beds basically made 2 of the 3 bedrooms all bed and no room for anything else. And the beds weren't very comfortable (unless you like the egg crate foam filling). Secondly, the hot tub, like so many other reviews, wasn't working. In fact, part of the side panel that opened into the electrical was exposed which is dangerous!
As for what else the cabin comes with- cheap, thing towels (I'd recommend bringing your own), a foosball table that the balls get stuck in and you have to get under the table/shake it to get, and the stairs are hazardous. They stais are steep and the actual steps are thin so it is very easy to slip down them. Finally, the location is okay- not quite as close as they make it seem to the tram. Yes it is walking distance but plan on walking a bit.
On the other side, all the pots, pans, dishes, everything was there. And we were allowed to have late check out for free. All in all, I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it. Read more
Thank for taking the time to leave us your feedback on your recent stay at Bears Den. We wanted to take a moment to update you and let you know that we purchased memory foam bed toppers for the beds. As far as the hot tub we think there may be an issue with the electrical breaker, we are in the process of having it fixed and replacing the side panel. Next time, please give us a call so we can have someone sent out as soon as possible. We are also going to take the Foosball Table apart and re-level it. We do hope you will give us a call in the future so we can find exactly what you're looking for!

The home was nice. It had the space my family was looking for but has some pretty big issues that could be resolved quickly.
I picked this place for the hot tub, unfortunately it didn't work for the first 2 days we stayed there. After maintenance fixed it, it took 10 hours to heat up, so by the time we were ready to use it it was 5 in the morning.
All of the exterior doors have a 1 inch gap around them, not a big deal during non winter times but when its 10 degrees out side, its pretty lame. We ended up using pillows to cover the cracks as best as possible.
Some issues were not related to the property, just the readiness for guests. There was no bakeware in the house, so no cookies or great warm treats. There is a closet downstairs that has a ton of things thrown in, didn't waste my time figuring it out but it should be cleaned up.
Again, the place was roomy and worked for my family but I found my stay not so relaxing as I had to go to extra measures to get comfortable and was disappointed in the attention to detail in preparing the location for guests.
old, run down, smelled like cats

cabin we originally booked became unavailable and we were moved to Bear's Den (was told it was a great cabin). Bear's den is old and dated, beds are very uncomfortable and cabin is poorly stocked with supplies. The worst part was the mildew and cat smell. Think old cat lady's house. Will never book with cool cabins again.

Our family of 5, 2 adults and three teens, found this nest cozy. Close to needed attractions, we were happy with the location. Whether we wanted to go to the lake, or to the grocery store, everything needed was at a close driving distance. The master bedroom was roomy for a cabin, whereas, the other two rooms were snug, but cozy. The jacuzzi and BBQ made for a relaxing evening. The kitchen and dining area were very spacious for a great family style meal. The neighborhood was quiet, and guest services was readily available. Downside were the bathrooms, if you are close to 6-foot, the baths are not going to suit you. A nice home, for a nice getaway.

Clean cabin with nice fire place, hot tub, and foose ball table. The 3 bedrooms are all up some pretty steep stairs. Wasn't a problem for any of my group, but could be for someone w knee or hip problems. Overall nice place for a reasonable price. Would recommend it.

This was a great cabin, lots of space, a fooze ball table and nice wood stove. The back hard was well fenced for my dogs, there was a large cut out on the side of the cabin in the back yard that my dog got into, however once noticed easily blocked so the dogs were safe. If you are going to enjoy the cabin it is clean and spacious. The hot tub was ok, the jets didn't work, it was a reasonable temperature, although it could have been warmer, however that may be a personal opinion.
Nice cabin for what you are paying for.

Bears den is a very cozy cabin the rooms are small and the bathroom upstairs has a ridiculous shower. However, you cant beat the price and location. The hot tub is wonderful after a long day of snowboarding and the foose ball table provides hours of entertainment. I would stay in the again for another guys trip, but would have to find something a bit nicer for the wifes to come along.
Cute Cabin--Can hear everything!!!
Left on 02/01/2012 for a stay in January 2012 | Cabin Connoisseur
This was a cute cabin, but you could hear everything everyone else was doing at any given time. One room upstairs particularly allowed you to hear conversations in the kitchen, while generally you could hear conversations or noises in any other room of the cabin throughout. It was older, but fairly well maintained. The walk between the hot tub and the stairs was frigid at night. Further note on the hot tub--it gets adequately warm, but it took a day for it to heat up initially then cools off very quickly in the cooler weather, only allowing you up to an hour of truly warm temperature.
Location was exceptional. A quick 5 minutes to Snow Summitt. Service was good, as we had to call them twice for various maintenance issues that cropped up and they came first thing in the morning.
Very old and not well managed

The cabin is very old. Our stay there in general is ok. Two things bothered us: 1. the roof in the kitchen is leaking. When we called the manager, they said we may change to another cabin but they refused to repair. Since we've already unload all our thing and only stay for one night, we didn't bother to change. 2. Many seasonings have run out and nobody refill it.

I have used cool cabins for the past 8 years in a row and never had a complaint even though we had a good time, and I have had great experiences with the cool cabins service team our experience with this cabin was way far from being a good one. The showers are very uncofortable due to their design being to close to the a-frame roof, the cabin is a bit run down, I would not stay at this cabin again, I know that their is nothing that cool cabins can do about this design flaw but I would recommend that the potential renter was aware in some way that they will have a very bad experience with the showers.

The staff at Cool Cabins were very friendly and helpful. Our cabin was situated very close to all of the amenities, ski slopes, sledging, restaurants and activity. Our children and dog had great fun building snowmen in the garden and we all enjoyed hanging out in the hot tub at night. The cabin itself was very warm and cosy but it is a little tired and in need of a bit of a make over! I would also suggest getting a lamp for the living room as the lights are very bright when on and the room too dark when the light is off. All the beds were comfortable but bear in mind, although it sleeps eight it is two to a bed so best suited for four couples or people/children who don't mind sharing a bed. All in all we had a very enjoyable stay and thought it good value for money. If cosy, cheap, fun is what you're after this is your place: if you need luxury... pay more.

The experience was awesome. The spa was turned on before we got there, I check in once and the key is kept at the house, so I just get to leave when we are all done. Perfect. They take care of the linens which is great too. An excellent deal for what I paid.

Nice cabin though is showing it's wear. Furnishings were worn when we stayed there but it was fine. Good Moonridge location. Having a washer & dryer was a nice bonus, though we found that running the spa for too long caused the breaker for it to trip. Will probably stay there again the next time we have a large group.

The cabin was located very close to the station, which made it very convenient. Definitely a quirky place, true cabin feel, which worked great for a group of students. Lots of room for everyone to sleep and for gear. I would definitely stay here again!

The place is not the ritz, but that is not what you are paying for if you go to Big Bear.
Its close to the Lake and the Sky Chair for Mountain Biking, which is what we went for. The place was plenty roomy for a family of 5 and was clean and had all the ammenities. The Jacuzzi did not cooperate, but again, we weren't there for that. And the pooltable is pretty difficult to play given the small room it is in, but the kids had fun with it anyway.
Because of the price and the decent quality I would give it a 4-star. If I had gone to spend my time in the cabin I would score it lower.
A home base, not a resort.

Bear's Den is an ideal place to spend the night resting and recovering before or after a day spent outdoors. It is well located and a great value for the price.
Some of the reviews seem to suggest that it is overly run down. It certainly does have something of a "lived in" quality. It is not a resort or a place to spend a weekend indoors. But it's in Big Bear, folks, you aren't supposed to spend the daylight hours indoors! The beds and couches are very comfortable. The cabin is warm with a well-equipped kitchen and even a hot tub.
If you are looking for a home base to spend your evenings after days spent on the slopes or trails, I highly recommend Bear's Den. If you are looking for a romantic getaway or brand new facilities for a family vacation, you might want to look at a B&B; or a resort.
You get what you pay for... :)

The Bear's Den is pretty run down. But, it has everything you need. It could use some updating but we didn't pay much for it so it was about what I expected. We had 3 adults and 4 kids and we never felt like we were on top of each other except in the bathrooms.
The big plus of the place is that it is very very near both ski resorts and it has a washer & dryer. When you are dealing with cold wet kids it is nice to be able to dry the towels and such.
The kitchen had everything we needed (microwave, toaster, pans, utensils)
The hot tub was a hit with the kids.
Maintenance had to come out twice but the problems were resolved quickly and politely.
We would use Cool Cabins again but probably pay more for a little less "lived in" cabin.

Cabin was easy to get to and a very short drive to both ski slopes. Other than that nothing special about the cabin. Hottub had a hard time getting hot but it did manage to get warm enough to sit in. Cabin heater kept the place warm even without a fire. Small enclosed yard in the back if you bring a dog. Lots of parking.

A group of us decided to rent a cabin in Big Bear for New Years and we were not disappointed with Bear's Den. Plenty of room for 7 of us, we were able to prepare and eat meals altogether, and enjoyed hanging out by the fireplace after a day in the snow. The cabin was so close to shopping and the mountains--- we'll definitely consider doing it again.
