I went to Big Bear for a weekend with a group of friends and we rented two cabins right next to each other. Overall, the cabin itself wasn't bad but there were a couple things that made this a place I will not rent again:
1) The cabin is much smaller than the pictures let on. I would say 900 square feet tops so all the rooms are pretty cramped.
2) When we arrived the driveway was covered with ice. As we were unloading cars, one of my friends slipped and fell on the ice while holding her two year old daughter. Everyone was OK but the rental company should do a better job clearing the driveways or provide salt to put down on ice.
3) When we arrived, the place was clean enough but the bath mats were still wet from the previous guests (makes you question how well they cleaned everything else before our arrival.
4) All of the lamps, tv, etc. were unplugged so we had to go around and plug everything in. Several of the wall plugs did not work.
5) We paid more per night for this place than our other cabin and the other cabin was three to four times nicer.
To the rental company's credit, they offered a partial refund on our stay due to the issues mentioned above. The check in process was quick. We did not call about the issues because it was after 8pm when we discovered everything and there were several young kids we had to get down for the evening.
We just wanted to take a moment to let you know we appreciate you leaving us your feedback. We are so sorry to hear about your friend and we are glad she is okay! There is a normally a salt bucket outside by the front door but if you ever discover that is missing please give out office a call day or night and we will take care of it. We take the safety of our guests very seriously. We also take the safety of the property seriously which why you discovered things were unplugged upon check-in. This particular owner puts a lot of time and effort in to making sure this property is maintained properly but understands it may not be for everyone. Please give me a call personally the next time you decide to book and I will do my best to find something that fits your needs.

The cabin was equipped with pretty much everything we needed. It was fenced, which was perfect for the dogs and the heat and hot water worked perfectly. It's always terrifying when you first arrive to a cabin to find out certain things aren't working but in our case, everything worked perfectly.
The one con that I had was that if you had the space heaters, lights and tv turned on all at once upstairs, you had to reset the box. Maybe some fuses need to be looked at but other than that - it was all good!

So we arrived and noticed immediately how tiny the bedrooms are. There is literally not one closet or even a chair in the rooms to put your gear/luggage down on. We had to bend over and retrieve our things from the floor. Very difficult to keep your things organized when there is clutter everywhere from having no space.
Next, we come back to the house to watch some tv before bed only to find that there is no cable. Not even basic cable. They have a collection of really lame video tapes for an old rickety VCR. No thanks. So we watched Scarface in spanish with a bunch of fuzz on the screen.
Ha. That was actually fun. We were making up the dialog etc.
Any way, on top of all of this, there was no instruction for the hot tub, so we never figured out how to do the bubbles. The buttons are all corroded and dysfunctional and to top it off it only heats to 99 degrees.
The beds were comfy but the bedding was a little old and beat up as well as all of the furniture. They definitely used fisheye lenses and touch ups in the photos.
The location is good. An uphill walk to Bear Mountain. We wouldnt stay here again. Too little space in this house. Too much furniture packed in and the pool table, though sounds fun, is an absolute waste of space. We were always just too tired to play as we were up there to ride all day.
Oh yeah and there is disgusting dust everywhere. Especially on all of the window blinds. Sooo gross!!! Read more
We have sent housekeeping over their to get the cabin sparkling clean. Thank you for your recommendation in regards to the spa. We will have an instruction sheet for working the spa, so our next guests can enjoy the hot tub. The cable TV is working that will allow any guest to sit back and relax. The pictures were not altered, but will get updated pictures soon.

The stairs inside are pretty steep, and dark even with the light on. We had to move the table to one side wo we could open the fridge door and there is no a/C. Other than that things were pretty nice. The street is noisy, but the location is real nice, a short drive from convenience stores for those things you forgot. The house also did smell like burned logs when we got there and the previous renters did not pick up their dog leavings. And some last renter had also put away the pans dirty so we had to wash them before using them. They did repair the broken cable hookup really fast considering we didn't discover it until late the first night.

Place is OK for those that just want a place to stay/sleep.It was clean. If you have more than 3 adults and maybe 2 kids you are going to feel very crowded.I am 5'2 and the I am taller than the fridge.Good for those that just want to keep a few things cold and not cook most meals.Place reeked of fireplace old burned oil logs. Although Cool Cabins said it had been cleaned the smell was overpowering both upstairs and downstairs. Beds not great. The one bedroom downstairs and one of the upstairs bedrooms you have to enter sideways-tiny rooms. Closets very limited at best. The second bedroom upstairs has two beds one is hard as rocks.Downstairs bathroom is tiny and dreary. We had to put coffee table on fireplace to make room to be able to move around, and move kitchen table over to have more than one person in kitchen. The overall house is 904 SQ FT.(I looked on Trulia)The kitchen living room combo has too large sofas that take most of the room. The back yard looks great but cannot use when sun is shining hot with only one umbrella that could be used. Bbq was clean and worked well. We used front porch since only place we could barely sit down together. Lights very dim in main areas and porches. Had no use for pool table downstairs other than to store all our things since they did not fit in rooms or living area. Also you are on a very busy street. The picture shown made me believe that the house was further back than what it is.Barely 3 cars can fit.We have been going up to BBL for 35 yrs every July. We have been customers of Cool Cabins for many yrs. They are very good sending out people to fix things, this was not fixable. It is obvious the owner has been investing in this property, but needs to be more real as to living spaces.Upstairs bedrooms best be switched with bunk bed in small one and a king or queen with a twin in larger room. Also remove all the "stuff" from so called closets.Desperatly needs a chimny sweeper to remove old soot that caused that awful smell.

clean comfortable cabin. office staff friendly n attentive to needs. janitorial needs required and maintenance was promptly delivered. hot tub and shower working well after repairs. only downfall was small water herring system so we needed to take fast showers n wait in between showering did the next person in order for water to get warm again.

We enjoyed our stay and I would give Moonridege 3 1/2 stars. Location is great; very close to Bear Mountain Resort. Parking is good for up to 3 cars. Nice deck in the back with a hot tub that worked great.
If you have older dogs like we do, this might not be the cabin for you. The kitchen, family room are upstairs and the dogs have to go up and down stairs.

This was probably the best cabin we've stayed in so far, and my husband and I have been visiting at keast once a year for the past 7 years. Now with kids, this floor plan is the best, with a master on the walk in level, pool room, and fireplace, and then all other living space on the second floor. Great to put kids to bed and then head downstairs to stay up playing pool and watching the fire :) we will definitely be reserving this cabin again! Only wish it had a larger yard, but the two balconies and outside space were still really nice.
Great location with a few improvements we would rent again.

Starting with the bad the beds need new bed springs and the comforters had a few stains. There was not enough quality shower towels and kitchen towels. The main TV could be upgraded to a a flatscreen. The smoke defector was chirping all night but was fixed the next day quickly. The pool table was fun but it was not level and most of the pool que's were not straight. Overall the location is great and we enjoyed the deck, BBQ, jacuzzi, good sized kitchen, and fire place on both floors. With a few improvements this place would be perfect. Not sure if we will be back there could bea better cabin for the same price as this one. Read more

Moonridge was just what I needed for a long weekend away with friends. It's a bit tight in the kitchen if you have more than 2 or 3 people trying to cook together, but the decks and pool table and such make it great for just relaxing. My group had a great time and highly recommend adding a late checkout to your stay. It makes the packing up process much smoother too :-).

This cabin was great. It slept a lot of people in very comfortable beds and was a short drive from everything. We had a wonderful time. The only complaint we had was that you could hear everything that happened in the cabin from everywhere in the cabin. The bedrooms have locking doors but you can hear what the kids are whispering in the other room or if they have the tv on, etc.

The best thing about this cabin was the price. We had 8 people and a baby and all had beds to sleep in but I would not recommend that many. It's a very small place but very cozy. Hot tub was fun and the deck was neat. It was nice to be out of the main part of town. Down sides were upstairs shower head broken, no shelves or hooks in any of rooms or bathrooms to put your stuff, pool table needs chalk for sticks. Other than that, we had a really great time. It was our first time in Big Bear and with this experience we are likely to come back. Was a bit disappointed that there wasn't much of a swim area in the lake but the Zoo was really neat!

After a very negative experience with another property, we were re-booked at this cabin. It definitely made up for the earlier experience, and turned out to be the perfect location for a low-key weekend - I would definitely book it again (and hope to!)
The hot tub is clean, large, and fully functional and the deck feels semi-private, as it backs up to a hillside. The kitchen and living area are one large space, perfect for socializing, and the kitchen is well-stocked. The fridge is a wee bit small, but the shelves are removable, so we worked it out. The linens were all clean and soft, the living room setup was comfy and perfect for movie-watching, the bathrooms were lovely (the downstairs shower is a bit dark n quirky, but really - you're in a cabin! There's gotta be some quirkiness!) The pool table was fun, the parking was ample. I really have nothing bad to say about this place - I feel like it's my new home away from home!

Service was very good and the cabin was very nice, we also like the location because it was near the Ski park (Bear Mountain) and the street was very calm.
The only complaint would be that by night it gets a little cold in the rooms, specially in the first floor. But it is very enjoyable and we had a great time there. Would return.

Smaller than we expected, we had a total of 5 adults and 1 infant, and that is probably the max you'd want, any more would probably not be comfortable. All amenities as described, plenty of extra blankets/bedding and portable heaters; clean and very close to Bear Mountain slopes. Interior staircase very steep, be careful! Check in and out was a breeze as usual with BB Cool Cabins. Overall, enjoyed our time in this cabin.

In general the house is great, when you walk in the master bedroom is to your right with the pool table & a fireplace to your left. The kitchen, living room & other 2 bedrooms are up stairs. Fyi its easier to bring your stuff, in & out, thru the side of the house, than the front door, because the stairs in the house are pretty steep & narrow. Only basic television thru out, by that I mean channels 2-13 & a few Spanish channels. So if your looking to watch some college football on saturday your out of luck on that. The stove is electric. Fridge is small & takes a while to get cold.
The Pros: The back deck is really private, great distance from any neighbors so noise wasn't a problem. 2 bbq's on the deck so you have your choice of coal or gas. Just about everything you'll need to cook or bake with is already in the house. bedrooms where super clean.
The Cons: The driveway is kind of hard to get out of, cars come pretty fast around the corner, but you can manage it. The shower in the master bedroom wouldn't drain & the hot tub on the deck, only half of the jets worked. the stereo & dvd system in the living room where all disconnected. I'm pretty sure we where the first ones there in a while.
The Big Bear Cool Cabins team wanted to take the time to say thank you for sharing information regarding your stay; your feedback allowed us to address and resolve the issues with the electronic equipment in the living room, and the refrigerator issue. As of today we are looking into the issue with the driveway, and the issue with the hot tub jets. Thank you once again; we hope to extend our hospitality to you in the future.

I entered the cabin with the heat on and it took 4 hrs to cool it down. In the summer with 85 high and 55 low-no need for heater to be on. 2nd- one of the reasons we chose this cabin was because of the jacuzzi only to find out later it didnt work and needed a part that staff knew about but assumed was fixed. I also felt like everything was too close and small in proximity. The pool table was also lopsided or unbalanced. The price you just cant beat. Very good price and we did enjoy ourselves and service seemed to be very good. Appreciated the reimbursement for jacuzzi, and we did have an option for a different cabin, which we were too tired to take. I would still go through big bear cool cabins but would ask more questions about the cabins. Read more

This cabin, while being a bit off the beaten path, is not what I would define as "secluded," so if you're looking for that, keep going...
That said, when we walked in with 5 kids and a dog it was everything we expected and the price was right. The house was clean, the dishes came in sets and there were plenty of utensils to help you cook. Fridge worked great, televisions were definitely working (the kids made sure of that) and the internet worked flawlessly. The upstairs beds were fine but the downstairs one is a brick. The hot tub was clean and hot. Check-in was easy, check out was a breeze and all of the showers, etc. worked fine except for a few ants in one of them. Hey, you're in the mountains, whattayagonnado? This was our first time coming to Big Bear during this time of year and, while I was more than satisfied with the cabin, I would not recommend staying in Big Bear--with kids--while the lake is too cold to swim or canoe and while there is no skiing... Anywhere you can take a family on rented bikes is dangerous but that's a review for some other web site. If you're thinking about bringing your mutt to Big Bear, definitely give this place a look!

We spent a weekend at Big Bear going hiking and relaxing. We usually rent with Cool Cabins as they have a good service and decent prices, lots of choices for cabins.
This cabin was great, we enjoyed playing pool in the evening and the Hot Tub was very relaxing. We also had our 10 year old son and the dog with us. They all enjoyed it tremendously. Definitely want to go there again. The only little complaint was that there were few TV channels, but we can survive without Food Network for a weekend. (Barely).

When you walk in the house, the downstairs looks like an old, worn out Frat house, very dismal. Bedrooms were very small and tired...(old comforters so thin they were almost like sheets). We ended up buying sleeping bags to place on top of beds for fear the comforters and blankets had not been washed in a long time. Upstairs living room was nice & comfortable, (which is good because you didn't want to hang out in bedrooms). Didn't use bathroom rugs...they were just old and looked unclean. Nothing like stepping out of the shower onto an old, dirty, warn out rug. We tried to have a fire but even with the flume open, all rooms became unbearably smokey. We did have the overhead fan on (nothing written not to use fireplace with fan on), we thought maybe that made smoke come out into the rooms? Location of cabin is good, very close to Bear Mountain and town. Need to supply a bucket with ground salt, front driveway was very dangerous to walk (no place else to walk but on ice at times). Perfect cabin for family with teenagers. Not good for younger children.

This house has a lot of potential if it is left in the hands of a better management. There were little flies in the bathrooms and spider webs on the decorations and corners of the walls. The jacuzzi did not work along with the fire places. The hot water was not available for the first few hours we arrived there. When we called Cool Cabin's office they simply said oops, there's nothing we can do, just don't use your fire places since they might suffocate you. So we had to use the heaters and guess what the fuses started to do. So sure enough we had to get out in the cold and snow every 5-10 minutes to reset the fuses.
Best thing is when I called the office to complain they said, we are sorry but no refund and if you're not happy about this go tell your credit card and dispute the charges... Now that's what I call top notch service!

The Moonridge cabin was located perfectly for our trip to Bear Mountain. The cabin itself was not as nice as I expected. There were flying bugs in the showers, no dishwasher, spackle on the walls and a closet door that wasn't attached to the wall. The tv was old and didn't have Espn. The bench legs at the kitchen table were loose and many of the light bulbs were burned out. Although the location was good, I was disappointed in this cabin.
