The layout of the cabin was nice - the upstairs bedroom was a loft and private downstairs bedroom. Very nicely located next to Bear Mountain, quiet street and fully stocked kitchen. The only issue we had was that the refrigerator (which was not on when we arrived) was emanating a very strong smell, sort of like gasoline but not quite. There was a dark liquid that seemed to have been spilled in the freezer by the last party, we think that was the cause. The whole cabin smelled of it. The fridge itself wasn't even cooling down in time during our one-night stay and the gas smell just seeped into the food and drinks we had put into the fridge.
When we called and the technician came by, he told us there is no gas leak, but rather that the smell was coming from the old heater, heating up dust. It was a rather piercing odor, so I can't say that's quite right, but I could be wrong. He couldn't really do much about the smell.
I've had a good experience with Big Bear Cool Cabins in the past, so I think we were just unlucky this time.

From the outside the place looks nice, but once you step inside you can tell the cabin has not be remodeled in 30 years.
Pro: location to resort. Gas furnace
Cons: 20 year old mattresses, nasty stained brown pillows, Old dusty furniture. Black and White TVs? Really? Read more
This cabin definitely has some character to it. We will have housekeeping check the pillows and spruce the place up for the next guest.

small but really cozy. sad that does not have a fireplace with chairs and table outside of the cabin for a small campfire.
the barbeque is places in front of the cabin. wish it was on the back yard with tables and chair. other than that really relaxing and cozy. cool cabin big bear office people were not that polite during winter season.
Cabin needs updating and a good cleaning.

The service was great. The cabin left us wanting more. The cabin had very old furniture and bedding. It needed to be cleaned from top to bottom. There was dust caked above windows and spider webs hanging from the ceiling. The whole cabin had a musty smell to it and messed with you sinuses. Would recommend a different cabin. There are definitely better cabins in the Cool Cabin inventory. Will not stay at this cabin again. Read more

This cabin is in a great location for sking, sledding & grocery stores. The layout of the cabin is a little wierd. No dining room table only a really low countertop bar with bench seats. Fireplace was in a corner blocked by a couch & chair-not much use. Internet access was great, TV was a joke (1985 19" RCa), DVD player did not work. Has a home phone, which is great becasue cell reception was non-existent. Overall a nice place.

The place was very comfortable and quite warm. It had a very fun and original layout which was easy for adults and kids. Electronics and tvs are a little outdated but the rustic feeling of the house makes up for it. Personally my favorite part was the location. The cabin is literally within walking distance of bear mountain. In a car it takes you maybe 2 minutes to go from your cabin to parking at bear. Great ski/snowboarder refuge and retreat.

Me and my family were in great need of some family time and a getaway. We decided to go to Big Bear for a fun weekend in the snow. We were a little disappointed with the lack of snow on the ground. But our cabin more than made up for it! My kids enjoyed the room they had to run around and my wife and I enjoyed the coziness of the cabin. It was just the right size, full kitchen...it was like a home away from home. At first we were going to stay in a hotel, but we were so glad we chose the cabin!! We are actually planning another weekend trip this December and thinking about staying in the same cabin!! Thanks again

This is by far one of the best values I could find in Big Bear. The facilities were clean and all of the housewares were included making it easy to prepare meals. I stayed here with my family and it was perfect. There is a queen size bed in the only bedroom. The loft has a full size bed, twin, and pull out couch! The fireplace was a nice amenity and we really enjoyed the gas bbq grill too. Close to shopping, dining, and ski resorts!

I received very good service at the office from cool cabins. The girls are very helpful at explaining every detail and giving directions. I liked the cabin very much it had all the Utencils necessary for us to enjoy every minute of our stay. The location was perfect we were not far from the city but still enjoyed the outdoor environment. What I Ejoyed the best was the fact that the cabin was very cozy and had everything we needed.

Great spot at a good price. Comfortable enough.Tiny old televisions, couldn't find/figure out music system if it existed. The kitchen counter and bench seats were sized for 6 year olds or little people. That wasn't in the description.Would have been bummed if I was looking for romance, luckily my friends and I are 30 year old guys just looking for a place to crash. Served that purpose fine.
