There’s a beautiful gray crane perched at the end of a boat dock this morning. She looks as though she is on vacation today as well, lounging in the sun, enjoying an incredible breeze while scanning for an unfortunate bite-sized fish. A few docks down are a rambunctious family of ducks; it appears as though it could be the first day of swimming lessons for the younger brood….what an amazing morning in Big Bear. From the porch swing at Fisherman’s Lakefront the world has certainly come alive and as you sit here gently rocking in the wind, you’re going to wonder where this view has been all of your life and why is it on...ly now that you’re experiencing it. It’s alright though, because as that last fortune cookie read – today is the first day of the rest of your life so live today as if it were. Your plan is to eventually get tired of sitting here and go for a walk around the lake. If that doesn’t happen today…there’s always tomorrow. The rest of your bunch are out on a pontoon for the afternoon fishing and getting a sun tan….everyone is having a great time here. Tonight the fireplace will be lit and delicious food and fantastic conversation will abound and with the luck you are having, I imagine tomorrow will even be better.
Disappointing experience from an expected "Luxury Property"
Left on 02/26/2013 for a stay in February 2013 | IgnacioCD
I stayed at the Fisherman's Lakefront for three nights during the winter. I am very busy and lack flexibility in the use of my vacation time, so I used Big Bear Luxury Properties as I was willing to pay a premium to get a good experience.
First the positives. The property is right in front of the lake, next to the marina. Very convenient and accessible if you have a boat or other floating device. The view is OK but not necessarily a clean one as all the boat docks are in front. The house is spacious, comfortable for a family of 4-6 with ample common areas in both stories.
So why the 2 stars? This property needs serious maintenance and clean up, especially if promoted as a luxury experience. Upon arrival I called the management company to let them know that the carpet had several stains. The answer I received is "I know, but we wait until the end of the season to clean it up". Bummer.
Continuing with cleanliness... I did not mind much finding a few spiders alive here and there. The dead ones were the ones that annoyed me, as it was clear that the vacuum was not used that much.
Now the hot tub. Do you wonder why there are not pictures of the hot tub in the website? The tub is located inside the garage, next to washer and dryer. So there is no chance to park a car in the garage. The whole space is dirty, with plenty of spider webs around. You can use the tub if you do not mind sharing the joy with spiders and the laundry detergent smell. Not my case.
Furnishing is outdated. Do you want an example? There are three video players in the property, with two of them being VHS! Not that I wanted to spend my time watching at movies, but that's an example of the serious need for an update. The fridge, microwave, stove, thermostat, most of the appliances are fairly old. "Vintage" would be a positive spin. On the upside, the sofas and chairs seem they have been recently renovated. But few updates on the furniture does not make up for a rough experience. Read more
Response from Big Bear Luxury Properties - 02/26/2013
We apologize for your recent experience at Fisherman's Lakefront. Although the name of our company is "Big Bear Luxury Properties", not all of our homes are considered luxury homes. I see that you picked and reserved this home on our website. On our website's search engine, we have an option to select "luxury" homes. By clicking this option you can ensure that our system is only showing the high end homes. Fisherman’s Lakefront is a nice basic cabin right on the lake. However it is not considered to be a part of our luxury homes.
I also see that you had an issue on 02/25 with the heating upstairs. The technician went out a couple of hours after you made the phone call and he determined that the heater was functioning properly but it hadn't been turned on. We could have resolved any housekeeping issues with the same type of quick response if you would have given us a call about it. Spiders are a very common issue in all mountain areas, particularly at lakefront homes since the number of insects is higher.
Again we apologize that your stay was satisfactory. Should you consider using our services again I can offer you a 10% discount for any non-holiday stay.
