Loved Big Bear but we didn't like the lodge. Jacuzzi didn't work, no warm water, drive way was very difficult to get up (even with the snow chains).

Hands down one of the nicest and more convenient places to stay in Big Bear! The place was completely renovated, clean and everybody was very friendly! and there are Jacuzzis in the room! The location is amazing, it's walking distance to the lake, Sturbucks, Shops etc... I will definitely go back there soon!

i really appreciated the online information and system that allowed me to screen for the features i wanted and select the property without issue. the location was excellent and big bear is a beautiful place to be. the issue was with the property. the futon was broken to the point that sitting wasn't possible (frame was broken) and the matress was so abused you couldn't lay comfortably. no doubt, everybody knew the futon was broken. The other issue was safety. neither smoke alarm was functional, one was off the ceiling and the other had the battery door open. Finally, the carpet has been neglected and beyond cleaning. the place isn't large, replace the carpet. finally, while the contract listed towels would be available, none were. unfortunately we didn't realize until after showering.

I thought that the ad was misleading. It listed the rental had a washer/dryer. It did not mention thae washer/dryer was a communal set not located in the unit. The smoke detector in the kitchen was opened and the battery had been removed and the one in the bedroom had been completely dismantled and was sitting on the mantle over the fireplace. Because the smoke detectors in two of the other units went off during our stay, I can only assume some past tennant got tired of them going off. There were 7 frying pans, but no baking pans. The sofa was filthy and seemed none too sturdy... Finally we covered it with one of the blankets in the closet, and felt safe to sit on it. But as there was no television in the living room, we really didn't need it that much. Over all it was pretty clean, and the heating units kept it pretty warm. The location was great ... very close to both skiing areas(less than 5 minute drive) and just down the street from the village(definately within walking distance).

Thank you for replying to our survey Lakeview Lodge is one of our most econmical places to stay. We will make sur ethe smoke detectors are working properly. The compound (7 units) do share the washers and dryers. We will make sure the unit descriptions states this.

We thoroughly enjoyed the location. My 3 yr old loved the bath with the jets and the fireplace. However there was confusion that were were given the key for #983 and told to go to G. Our 1 yr old and 3 yr old were very tired after a long drive and took a nap as soon as we arrived. My husband and i attempted to nap as well, until someone started stoping their feet on our porch and banging on the door. This continued several times, and then another person came to the door and wanted to see our agreement. They apologized for the all the noise (this continued off and on for over an hour) and said some how our room was double booked. I asked ahead of time if our place had a DVD player and was told yes. We saw we had a VHS, and were told the TV was too old to connect a DVD player. Our three year old was disappointed b/c we rented movies for the weekend. When i turned on the sink in the kitchen, and i was holding my 1 yr old, water sprayed us in the face. We were not able to fix the sink and it was a pain to try to wash dished with. The smoke detector was disconnected. The shower curtain was half on and would have resulted in us taking more time than we wanted to invest to fix it. The outlets in the bathroom did not work, and neither did half the outlets in the MBR with the fireplace. As far as the LR, the fouton was so old, there was a gaping hole in the middle of the cushion to the point it wasn't usable. We brought in our own camping chairs. After realizing all these things i called the office to let them know the place needed some TLC, and was told someone would call me back. That never happened. Upon checkout, i informed the woman working i was really unhappy with the condition of things, and her attitude was really disappointing. She said we should have gone to the right place. And kept arguing with me about the unit we were in. I showed her the key said #983, and her only response was sorry you went to the wrong place. Basically that it was our fault.

We are sorry for the mix-up with which unit you were to be in. None of these properties show a DVD as an ammenitiy. We will work with the owner to get some new TVs.

My vacation was good except for the room we stayed in at the lakeview lodge. My room did not have any hot water, it made it inconvenient for my family. I called Janice at Big Bear Vacations and she very kindly gave me another room. We transfered from room D to G. Room G had a lot of the amenities that did not work, for example, 1) the heaters could not be plugged due to the outlets not working both in the living room and in the rooms. 2) the TV in my room was not working. 3) the heater itself in the room was not working. 4) the sink faucet splashed water everywhere when you opened it, it splashed on our clothes and in our face. You should really work on having all amenities working in all of the rooms, they should be in top condition, the rooms are not cheap I paid $175 per night, that's not cheap, all amenities should be working at that price. I have stayed in much cheaper hotels with no problems whatsoever, the only good thing is that Janice and the staff was attentive to changing my room, but the other room had many other problems as well. It just didn't change the inconvenience of the amenities that were not working in the rooms for all of my family members, they were very distressed and unhappy at that. Would I stay at the lakeview lodge again or refer anyone one of my friends or family members. Absolutely not!

Big Bear Vacations service is awful
1. They tripple booked first unit so I had to spend an hour on the slopes on the phone finding another unit.
2. When we checked in at 39252 Big Bear Blvd nobody had heard of us. We were not in computer.
3. They gave us the wrong address at condo.
4. There were only two space heaters in the condo and temperatures stayed in low 50's all night.
I would rate their service the very lowest posible. -

The house is nice and clean, but the parking is very poor due to the steep slope. It is almost impossible to park on the slope when there is ice on the slope and no way to back the car down slope when there are cars parking at the entrance of the slope. I will not recommend it for the winter vacation.

Rented this property for Thanksgiving weekend. When we got there, we found out the property didn't have central heating. The only heating was 2 wall units that could bearly heat a closet. The sheets had dirt stains. The house seemed like it had not been cleaned. Very disappointing experience. There are better options out there.

All of Big Bear Vacations properties have heating in one form or another outside of fireplaces. Central heating availability is listed in descriptions of individual properties. We apologize for any inconveniences. All units are cleaned following each guest.

Left on 12/03/2008 for a stay in November 2008
The location and the view were what we were looking for. However, we became disappointed for the price paid with the inside issues we noticed. "Basic Kitchen" was an understatement. We have rented cabins every Thanksgiving for years but not found a kitchen as under stocked with kitchen basics as this one was. Should we really need to bring our own coffee mugs?? We did not like the fact that every time we closed the front door you were locked out from the outside. Doors on various rooms were too tight to close easily without disturbing all that were sleeping. Not nice seeing a note above the thermostat saying it does not work and to use the wall heaters in the BR's for heat...those gave out little at that. In general the unit is ready for some upgrades and upkeep. No seating for 6 in the front room. We had to bring the kitchen chairs out to sit on to talk. The TV in the front room needs some updating. No VHS or DVD player. We ended up buying a dvd player and converter to attach to the TV to watch movies we brought/rented! The local video stores do not rent units anymore... We should have sold it back to the owner for future guests. There was a VHS player there but no cables or way to attach to the older TV anyway. Like in another review I saw we were not set up with much in the way of TP for 6 people to cover 3 days.
It would have been easier for the families to enjoy a fireplace in the living room, but this unit it is in 1 bedroom, so if you wanted to enjoy the fire, head to the bedroom??
I guess we will really need to read the finer points in a units descriptions. This unit we considered overpriced for the what we got, even with a view. Good thing my brother had some camping supplies with him, as they came in handy to support the 6 of us.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 01/30/2009

The best experience we had for our weekend stay was the staff from Big Bear Vacations especially Sherri who was so helpful with our planning. However the house was not exactly so as it was represented in the text. There were four of us in a six person accomodation but only accomodated two people for sitting in the living room! The kitchen was not stocked enough(dishes, pots/pans) for us to cook any meals so we had to eat out. We had to make a trip back to the rental office because we did not have toilet paper or enough towels. I don't think they were prepared for us as we had to call in to have the water turned on! No TV in the second bedroom as stated.

Thank you for your response to our survey on Lakeview Lodge Unit 980 G. The water was turned off by an unknown person. We are sorry this caused you any inconvenience. We will speak to the owner regarding more kitchen supplies. We do not supply paper towels and I'm sorry you were led to believe we do this. We sat you off with toilet paper and supply 6 towels. We do have a linen exchange that can be used up until 6pm. We should have done better for you on this issue. Again, thank you for your survey response. These help us supply a better client product.
