ActonNice stay
Left on 06/24/2012 for a stay in June 2012
I called beforehand as I was a bit leary of the reviews. I was assured it would be clean and ready to go. It was. It is a nice, older lodge with a beautiful view of the lake from the patio which is equipped with chairs and a few barbeques. Totally enjoyed the view from our own deck and we were walking distance from restaurants, the lake and the village. Beds were not so comfy, but both rooms had fireplaces and one had a jacuzzi tub as well. Kitchen could have been better equipped as it only had a few coffee mugs and bowls and we needed wine glasses, paper towels and napkins, which I did not realize were not supplied untl tooo late! I would go there again.

Per the rental agreement, check-in during the holiday season is 4:00 - 1 hour later than regular check-in time. However, due to some type of repair that had to be done (no explanation was given to me), we were unable to check-in till 4:30! It was Christmas Eve, we made every effort to get there on time, and we had to wait! The place itself is alot smaller than anticipated. The closets were full of junks (like they just stuffed things in there). The beds were uncomfortable and felt like they didn't even change them. So we used our own. We found pieces of trash (food) under the bed.
The worst part was the incline to park your car. We used chains, but still could not get our van up the incline. It's a challenge to park your car there. So be careful. We witnessed 1 car slide down the driveway. Not sure if the driver forgot to put the break on or if it was the conditions of the driveway. Luckily nobody was hurt.
The location is great, the big tub is great, and we had access to do laundry, but I wouldn't stay there again.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 04/29/2012

Wall heaters did not work. Had to use portable heaters and keep bedroom doors closed to keep it warm. Kitchen and bathroom were not heated and very cold. Snow could have been removed from stairs and porch.

Lakeview Lodge unit A
Chandler, AZFun in the snow
Left on 01/17/2011 for a stay in December 2010
I was disappointed in this unit because I could tell it was fairly new, but it was falling apart. All of the window latches were about to fall off. Some door trim was falling off. The little table in the entryway was extremely wobbly. A jacuzzi tub was advertised - but it didn't work. The only heat in the place was a few half-assed space heaters. We should have been told that firewood is probably required. Also, there was no 'living room' area. I had asked about this before we went and the response led me to believe there was a small living room area. This unit was not comfortable at all. Oh well - my dupe. The location was great. The weather was excellent. Snow Summit was way better of a ski hill then I expected. My wife and kids loved Big Bear, and the Village. We'll definately come back, but not over a holiday week. I will not stay in this unit again. We'll choose a different one. (Ya'll need to do some maintenance!) Thanks.

San Luis Obispoget ready to sign a 10 pg lease agreement.
Left on 01/02/2011 for a stay in December 2010
It was a nice place with a good set up. However, you have to sign basically a 10 pg lease agreement where they will nickel and dime you for everything. Dont forget to take out your trash or its a $$ fee and dont check in late or you will be charged extra etc etc. The pillow cases looked like they hadnt been washed and beware the extra blankets in the closets. Overall, it was ok... it was nice to have 2 separate rooms, a kitchen, and fireplace but i dont want to worry about a contract and fees when im on vacation.

Thank you for responding to our survey. The City of Big Bear has a lot or ordiance requirements that must be met. This does require the signing of paperwork and waivers. We have a paperless check-in packet that is sent to people with their conformation packet. This saves so much time at check in. We hope you were able to have a good time in Big Bear.

Basically nice cabin in a good location with a couple of small problems. It is on a hill that is one of the last to get plowed so a 4x4 is helpful if there is a lot of snow. Also the main heater did not work well, but small electric units were provided that made up the difference.
Good hot tub (2 person) in one bedroom right next to the fire place. -

The price was fair based on the location. I did have some question about the bedding in our room, but in all we had no problem with reservations and departure. Big Bear vacations is a wonderful resource way to book a room! The folks who run the service are very friendly and accomodating. Will refer them with no hesitation. Thanks!!

1st - Did not have its parking lot snow plowed
2nd - Did not give 2 keys and door would lock
automatically.
3rd - did not have a rug in entry way, so the
floor was always wet.
4th - did not have enough towels for 4 people
staying 4 nights.
5th - room did not come with fire wood.
6th - the floor heaters did not work.
7th - they wanted us to use floor heaters,
which made the temp. go from 49 degrees
51 degrees in 2 hours.
8th - Their solution was to give us more floor
heaters. I am a Firefighter and these
are SAFETY HAZRDS!!!
9th - They were unable or unwilling to get us
a new place to stay. The customer
service was horrible. We had to find a
place on our own. They would not help!!
10th -We then had to fight to get our money
back for the first night.
11th -I would never recommend this place to
anyone. I will tell them to stay away
from this company.

1st. Snow is common in the mountains. It does take time to plow snow. At times parking can be difficult. Big Bear Vacations does it's best to keep up with snow as soon as it happens so that guests can enjoy it not be inconvenienced by it.
2nd. Big Bear Vacations provides only one key per unit for the safety of our guests. Guests can request for a second key at check-in.
3rd. Please notify Big Bear Vacations of issues such as no rug in the doorway immediately so that a solution can be provided as soon as possible.
4th. Big bear vacations provides one bath towel per person in occupancy rating. If a guest would like to have more towels they are available to be picked up at our front desk, at any time during the stay.
5th. Big Bear Vacations does not provide firewood for properties. Firewood can be purchased at a variety of locations throughout Big Bear.
6th-8th. Floor heaters are safe to be used as an additional source of heat when used properly. Big Bear Vacations as well as the owner of this property provide these heaters for the added comfort of our guests.
9th. Providing new properties to guests who are unsatisfied by issues outside of our control, i.e. snow is limited to extra charges. If Big Bear Vacations deams a move necessary due to issues within our control i.e. broken heater, there is no extra charges.
10th-11th. Big Bear Vacations does its best to analyze issues and compensate guests appropriately. Demanding a new property at no charge becasue there is snow in the mountains does not constitue reimbursement. -

Los Angeles, CAGreat condo in Big Bear
Left on 02/18/2009 for a stay in February 2009
My family and I just spent 3 days in Big bear at this condo. The property was really nice, and very clean. Each bedroom had a floor heater and a bedside space heater, so the place was nice and toasty! Each room even had its own fireplace! And the master had a jacuzzi tub, which went to good use!
The only downside of the condo was the small kitchen size. It was a little cramped there and other than the 2 bedrooms, there wasn't really a "living" room. And the kitchen did not have a stove or hotplate. So we were a little dissappointed because we were hoping to do some cooking.
The property also had 3 washer and dryer unit for our use, which was nice. And they were free! Even better! There was a large deck for the kids to play on, and it was very quiet.
All in all I would recommend this property to anyone as long as you don't intend to do any major cooking, it was really nice!Response from Big Bear Vacations - 02/24/2009

Thank you for your response to our survey on Unit 981 A. Lakeview Lodge is 7 units and only one unit has a full kitchen (stove, refrigerator, sink) and living room. That is unit 980. All the others 981 thru 986 have a kitchenette (no stove but equipped with a sink and microwave) and no living rooms. We are glad yo had a nice time. The common outside area is really nice for BBQs. Please come and stay with us again.

We rented this for two nights. We were happy with the cabin. It had a Jacuzzi in one room and fireplaces in both. also had two TV,s with cable, refridge, sink, dishes, table.
BigBearvacations.com was a disappointment. The lady running the front desk was very fed up with guest. Had two problems with a lock out and a credit card issue which each time not accommodating towards guest, I wasted 2 hours of my vacation when it would have taken them 10 minutes. Made my great trip a so-so trip. Nice cabin taken well care of. bigbearvacations not so great

Agoura, CALess than happy
Left on 01/08/2009 for a stay in December 2008
I was extremely disappointed. Issues: to pick up key we had to travel to a 2nd address, and the weather and plowing (not) was miserable. The person taking over was not happy being dumped keys and check ins and told the crowd of at least 20 people how irritated he was, instead of working to get people out the door - he preferred to vent. The space heaters were lousy. No kitchen light. The toilet didn't flush. No accessibility to parking lot, even with chains (in our case). We had to walk our firewood, luggage, Xmas gifts, etc. etc. up the parking lot hill to our cabin. I would not recommend this in the future to my friends.

Thank you for you response to our survey on Unit 981 "A". This is one of our more resonable units. We have thoroughly cleaned the snow and ice out of the common parking lot and made entrace tio each unit. The sun has melted practically everything on the property. We do have an in-house maintenance staff that is available for emergency call outs. We are also sorry you had to experience someone in our staff venting while working. This is not acceptable. Please come and stay with us again and let us provide you a better experience.
