We stayed here for a weekend getaway and will not stay here ever again!.. First, the carpet is outdated and dirty and has few stains that we thin it's unsanitary fior our kids to play.
Second, the chairs and throw pilow is sooo dirty and full of stains as well.
Third,i recommend you bring your own pots to cook with. Fourth, bathroom heater is not working.
Fourth, considering there's only 1 heater we all slept by the loft portion since the real bedroom is way at the back side so it doesn't even get warm.
Fifth, just by the look of it i dont think curtains all over the house has been cleaned since it was put up.
On top of all unpleasant experience (i'm a clean freak mother)...we have to pay cleaning fee---and additional fee will be charged if you dont put furniture back in place ($5/each furniture),fee if u dont leave the heater @55, fee if you leave any trash (fee is per bag),also i dont see the point that you have to throw your trash in a different "trash site" when in fact you paid for cleaning fee which i strongly believe they should do it.
My list can go on and on but the point is i will not recomment it to famillies with kids especially if u are a clean freak mother like me. Do yourself a favor and Pay a little more money for a better place

the cabin is considerably ok. we enjoyed it. the only lament i have is that the administration is not up to help. from day one we called in how to operayte the fireplace no one was helpful. we had to figure it out ourselves. we were afraid at the start we dont know how to manipulate it. also the linens and towels. when i was booking i was told that we just have to ask during our stay we were told that we have been provided with enough to which i disagree.also i am used to somebody from the front desk at least to asked us how we are doing considering that we are not with in their site. no one ever thought of that. maybe we need some improvement on that area. service, service, service... Cabin was clean enough. Everything worked in the cabin but the heater in the bathroom (which was not that necesary). Back view was nice. Parking for two vehicles ok. The location was great, near from supermarkets, main blvd and the skiing mountains. The cold gets in badly by the edges on the front windows. Other than it was a good stay. The Big Bear Vacations crew don't seem to care about your concerns (at least the late shift people) I've worked on customer service before and when somebody brings a complain or concern to you, you don't go "no, we don't do that, period" or "It wasn't us, period" you at least try to look for a possible solution or at least show some interest. They were snoby and showed no interest at all. Girl on the morning shift was very nice though. Read more

We loved the spacious yard and thought it would of been lovely with snow. The location was perfect, close to the village, convention center, and ski resorts. We would stay again.
The only small problem- the instructions to use the DVD were not clear and we couldn't use it even though we brought videos. Also the tv in the bedroom did not work.

We had a great time! Big Bear Vacations was awesome! They made it sooo easy, from check in to check out. We even ordered firewood that was waiting for us at our cabin. The staff was incredible and very pleasant. I highly recommend using them as we will definitely do again in the future. The pictures of the cabin online accurately represented our cabin.
The area is beautiful and we will be going back up there when we can to explore even more. If you are looking for a great vacation or even just a weekend getaway, Big Bear Vacations has you covered.

Good Location, But Could Use Some Cleaning Up

The reservation specialist at Big Bear Vacations said that we were unable to check in any earlier than 3pm because the deck was getting painting that same day. We arrived close to 3pm on check in day, only to find that once we arrived at the cabin, no deck of the cabin had been painted. In fact it was in really poor condition and in much need of some repainting. In addition, when we entered the cabin, there were so many spider webs that we had to walk through. Furthermore, we found numerous spiders running across the floor. All the extra cleaning fee charges were very high (leaving one bag of trash costs you $25 on top of the cleaning fees). On a positive note, the cabin did have a good location.

Great Value, Comfy Stay

Sutherland 1055 was a very comfortable cabin to stay in and was located in a great area. Very close to Bear Mountain and Snow Summit, and very close to Kmart, CVS, Walgreens and other retailers to suit our needs. We loved the cabin feeling of it, and enjoyed the backyard, which was bigger than we expected. The price was very reasonable and affordable but with that do come a couple of issues. There wasnt consistent hot water to shower, the oven was not working and we had to manually turn it on with a paper towel. Other than that, very comfortable stay, peaceful, relazing, and fun.

We were disappointed this time around
Left on 01/20/2011 for a stay in January 2011 | Bruno, Carmen, Nina, Naomi, Marcello, and Bunny
We had stayed at the Sutherland twice before in the past years, had enjoyed it, but found it neglected, and deteriorated. The light in the main room (tall chandelier) was not working, so it was very dark in the evening. One chair in the kitchen was broken, fridge handle was broken, VCR had disappeared (which made the big VHS library useless), there were no instuctions for the DVD player, and we never got it to work, and then little things here and there like a couple of wardrobe drawer handles coming apart, or a missing light bulb inside the fridge... Basically, we found the cabin we had loved in the past, neglected, and uncared for. We could have stayed one more night, but
Suprised : (

I truly recommend a upgrade. The rug was torn, the appliances did not work up to part, the toilet broke and had to drive three times out so kids can use the restroom, but management sent someone right over after the third call and telling them we had to leave so kids can use restroom. The TV did not have a remote to watch Dvds we had to call on that to. Despite the warnings from prior reviews, we still went for it. We are a family who makes the best of a bad situations, and we did. We still had a very Merry Christmas, but our indoor stay at the Sutherland could have been better. I did enjoy the pictures, keep those around along with the rest of the Native american artifacts.

check in and out was good service was good but the house was not clean the furniture ,carpet, comforters were very old and torn. the appliances didnot work very good but when we asked for service they sent someone to fix it write away. I recommend to use the same company but choose a newer house and ask about the furniture before you rent.

Labor Day Fun!

The cabin front porch is old and in need of repair and the backyard is fenced but needs side gates to keep dogs safe from running out onto the busy highway. Driveway is small in size and only fits one vehicle. The inside of the cabin is comfortable and has a western theme with many pictures. The main bedroom is nice and offers a large window that brings the outside in and has a nice view. The second bedroom is a loft and has two twin beds. The hand rails are used as back supports for the big pillows that are part of the beds. The loft should only be used for teens or adults because there are large gaps between the rails and small dogs and toddlers may easily fall down to the first floor. This cabin was fun for the weekend ! !

The location and surounding areas great, easy access to last minute or forgotten items because several shops, markets and drug stores.
Cabin had all the comforts of home including sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, bath soap, toilet paper, dishsoap, papertowels and extra ice trays. Enough to support the number of tenants...awsome! The only suggestion I would make is to have Big Bear Vacations supply large trash bags or at least make the added suggestion to future tenants. Because I am familiar to the camping lifestyle, I was prepared with all sizes of trash bags and they were handy in transporting all our waste to the required dumpsite.
We will probably again rent for another weekend, but this time it will be more of a restful stay. The weekend of this stay was because of my grand-daughter's softball tournament which didn't give us a lot of relaxation time. Our evenings were pleasant we lit the fireplace and the kids made Smores. The played cards and table games which were available in the cabin. Also my husband had his TV/Cable with remotes which kept him happy. There were plenty of beds for everyone and each room had a scenic view of the forest.

Our first time renting a cabin in big bear. The place
itself is great for the price. It was very quiet and
never got too cold. I only have 2 complaints that I
can recall. 1. The place always smelled like gas.
We called for someone to come out and have it
looked at. The maintenance man said that the pilot
lights for the stove had blown out. We aired out the
place. When we returned the following day, the
smell had returned. We just kept airing out the
place. 2. The shower kept backing up. I don't think
the plumbing was plugged up. I think it just needs to
be upgraded for more water flow.
Other than these two problems we really enjoyed
Not good maintenance

Two things actually, and the first is more pressing than the other.
The house itself was very welcoming, and for its price range, the best rental we have experienced so far with Big Bear Vacations. Overall, it was very clean, with one (important) exception: The shower.
The bathtub did not drain at all, meaning soap scum and whatever else clung to our feet as we stood in water up to and over our ankles during five minute showers; in addition, the pressure from the non-adjustable shower head was so strong it was painful (and that is NOT an exaggeration!)
The only other shortcoming: No cutting board! I looked long and hard for one when I was cooking dinner, and despite the kitchen being stocked with about every other culinary tool one could wish for on vacation, I could find nothing upon which to slice my vegetables. But that is a minor inconvenience, and quickly remedied.
I would stay here again, but I am leery of the shower, and would not recommend it to someone else b/c of exactly that. But the location is fabulous, it had plenty of sleeping space, and again, was really very cozy.

We spent Thanksgiving here, and were pleasantly surprised how well stocked the kitchen was. We were able to cook a somewhat traditional dinner without too much trouble. It is a fairly comfortable cabin, in a very nice location, but it is tired, and needs some upkeep.

Left on 10/14/2009 for a stay in October 2009 | 3 seniors
Three senior ladies stayed two nights. We enjoyed each of us having our own bed to sleep in. The house had the charm of a mountain retreat, but still close to stores and shopping.
There were a few minor things that needed attention (which we reported), but it was well furnished and comfortable.
One thing we didn't understand was how the TV worked. There was a screen that indicated we should press a "guide" button, but none was to be found on the 3 remotes. However, when we turned on the TV again after dinner, channels magically appeared and we were able to see news and a video.
We suggest the TV instructions be reviewed.
Thanks for a relaxing get-away!

Our stay at the cabin was enjoyable. However, I needed a place that had a fenced yard because I took my dogs with me. This property represented it had a fenced yard, but upon our arrival, we determined that it was not fenced in. It had a back fence, but the other 3 sides were not closed in. I was very disappointed as my dog does not have her eyesight and that is why I needed a fenced in yard and this property advertised as one. Due to the fence not being enclosed, we had to keep the dogs in the house with us and watch them constantly when they were outside.
Our stay was enjoyable other than the fence situation. I would recommend this property to others, only if they didn't need a fenced yard.
