Encinitas, CAit looks good on paper
Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in January 2012
This place looks good on paper, but i would not recommend staying here. From the moment we opened the front door we were amazed with the run down condition of this rental. There are broken tiles throughout the house. A mix match of office chairs made up the "furniture” many of which had broken legs and were unsafe. We had a crew of only 10 and there was no where near enough seating. Even though this place was made for 14.
We thought this was the most of our worries when we arrived, but it went down hill from there. As it turned out the downstairs heater was broken. To my amazement the rental company got someone out there with in 30 min at 11:00 at night. He did get it working and we were warm that night. It broke once again the following night. This was the only time I was happy it wasn't sub zero outside. We were so cold inside, we assumed we would be able to get warm in the spa. When we opened up the lid we were choking on chlorine. The spa had poisoned with way to much chlorine making it unusable and dangerous. The need to hire a new pool man, there is no excuse for that many chemicals.
We found the pool table to be unplayable and the wifi was unusable. Luckily Verizon gets awesome reception and we were able to provide our own internet.
Overall this was a highly disappointing trip for my entire crew. Had I gone up with a "party” crew not family. This place would have been ideal. There is not much that you can destroy worse than it already is.
I really hope they take a look at this property and fix it up. I feel it has awesome potential to be a great property. It is very spacious and with the right furniture and heating, it would be a great place to stay. Until that happens. Do not stay here!

Overall we had a good experience, but the cabin needs a lot of mantainance, an equipment. Kitchen apliances, dishes, glasses, etc. Maybe beacause its a very big cabin but is not what we expected. but we had a very nice time.

The house is perfect for family and friends to stay. The only I did not like was the room which look like it use to be a wash room was converted to a room. In which my opinion did not feel like a room at all, it look like they just made a bathroom added a bed and t.v and called it a room. And the downstairs heater worked the first night of our stay, then the following night when we tried to turn it on it did not work. We had to buy a few boxes of fire logs to keep the rooms downstairs warm. Overall great location, close to ski slopes, stores and dining and easy check in with friendly and excellent staff.

Left on 11/16/2011 for a stay in November 2011
the home is in need of maintenance. my group fit comfortably, the home was clean, we had everything we needed in the kitchen, but...the first thing we saw when we approached the house was the broken door leading to the back yard. There were broken floor tiles, broken toilet, the pool table was wobbly so we couldn't enjoy that, the hot tube didn't work, and the jacuzzi buttons kept getting stuck. I don't think it was worth the amount of money we paid.

Thank you for your review. We are very pleased to hear that the property was clean and well equipped for you and your group. This home is very reasonably priced for the amount of people it can accomodate.

San DiegoVacation Get away
Left on 04/06/2011 for a stay in March 2011
We throughly enjoyed our stay in Big Bear at cabin #1107.
Positives; Space, comfort, location, cleanliness.
Negatives; Disposal of your trash, when cleaning service is included. $25 per bag, doesn't make sense. The pool table is broken, unable to play pool. Was unaware their wasn't enough utensils, i.e. cups/ plates, etc. for 14 people.
I know that sounds like a complaint, but I asure you it's just a minor inconvenience. Which wouldn't prevent us from staying again. Now that we know what to expect, our next review would probably be 5stars.

Thank you for the feedback
We have purchased new kitchen wear for both kitchens and did minor repairs on the pool table. It is defiantly 'playable now'.
For accommodations for 14 people, proximity to the lake, and how much fun you can have with so many amenities!!!

San DiegoAwkward house that needs some maintenance
Left on 02/09/2011 for a stay in February 2011
The bilevel floor plan provides plenty of space, but doesn't have an area for a large group to hang out in. Only a loveseat in the family room with a small table with 4 chairs. Downstairs the pool table dominates the living area and random chairs placed around are not comfortable for lounging by the fire - the room has dark paneling and is a little creepy. House needs maintenance - broken tiles on stairs, lights not working, jacuzzi didn't heat up, pool table not level, doors difficult to close, spiderwebs in windows, debris in yard, no walkway to front door so mud tracked in, coffee pot didn't work (missing "on" button!), minor annoyances that led to overall disappointment with the property. Could be a nice place if someone took the time to spruce it up and rethink the use of space so large group could eat and hang out together.
Response from Big Bear Vacations - 03/01/2011

Thank you for respondig to our survey. The owner is having to stair tiles fixed. We have replaced the coffee pot. the house is ecomonically priced for the amount of peoople it holds. We will review the description of the property to make sure the living room area is properly described.

San DiegoVery Good Place

All was good but the time from check-in to check-out was bad. I just rent one night and I had to come at 4 pm and leave at 10 am next day, too expensive for 18 hours.

San DiegoGreat house that needs some attention in a few areas
Left on 12/29/2010 for a stay in December 2010
The house and the location was perfect for us. We also loved the separated living areas and the fantastic fireplaces that we put to good use. The problem with this house is that I suspect the owner hasn't stayed there in a long time...if ever! Obvious things lacking: only coffee cups and wine glasses to drink out of; very few pots and pans; lots of chairs but only 1 loveseat to sit on in a house this size... that is pretty weird; no walkway to get to the house...not even stepping stones, consequently we were fighting the mud all week long.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CANot what we expected from photos...
Left on 11/24/2010 for a stay in November 2010
We have always been visiting big bear lake for the past 7 years sometimes 3 times a year, and we have stayed in very good resorts there. This time because we are 7 in the group I tried a vacation house for rent for a change and this is the first time we have rented a house in big bear. To tell you honestly I was shocked to find the outside of the house dirty and leaves all over the place, like it was abandoned for a long period of time. The pool table needs to be fixed, the master bedroom bathroom toilet does not flush, dishwasher overflows when used, the table in the living room attached to the wall was not bolted to the wall on one side. It was a total disaster to rent this house. The day we checked out, we have to transfer to Lagonita lodge for comfort instead of staying for two more days in this house because of the storm. I would settle for Lagonita lodge the next time, even if we spend more. Comfort does not spell what big bear vacation advertise.

Left on 10/21/2010 for a stay in October 2010
We had 14 friends this year for Oktoberfest so this cabin worked out great! Although a majority of the beds are bunk beds, it still worked out well. The house was huge, hot tub was great - although it was scorching hot when we got there so we had to turn the hose on to cool it down. We will consider using it again for next years Oktoberfest!

We are sorry the spa was too hot. We hope you were able to enjoy it after the "cool down". Please come and visit us again.

Orange CountyBeware
Left on 01/13/2010 for a stay in December 2009
We enjoyed Big Bear, but the house had some issues; the carpet was filthy, and spider webs were hanging from the ceiling lights, coffee maker and dryer were not operating, a few of the rooms were not ventilized so those rooms were COLD, the pool table was half broken and not leveled, there was only one pool que which didn't even have a tip, the light bulbs above the pool table were missing. This list of issues were submitted to Big Bear Vacations, but they basically ignored it!
If the above doesn't bother you, you will have a good time.Response from Big Bear Vacations - 07/11/2010

Thank you for your response to our survey. The entire house has new ceramic tile with throw rugs. There is a new coffee maker and all the lights work. The yard has been enclosed for soemone who wants to bring a pet. Again, thank you for responding to our survey.

the home was clean and tidy, upstairs toilet was broken though. big bear
vacations service was a little rude during my check in and check out and
weren't very specific in how we were to check in. they told us we could bring
more than 4 cars and then told us during our stay that it wasn't allowed.
