MONTEREY COUNTY HAS INFORMED ME I CANNOT RENT FOR LESS THAN 30 DAYS. IF YOUR PLANS CALL FOR A SHORTER VISIT, I'M HAPPY TO HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING..PLEASE GIVE ME A CALL.
Located 1/2 way between Big Sur State Park and Carmel-by-the-Sea, Sobre Sur Grande (above Big Sur) offers luxury in a retreat setting. The owner is a yoga teacher, who still manages to enjoy the pleasures of good food, wine and company. Thus the home blends the tranquility of a retreat with the kitchen, dining and living rooms designed with an entertainer's eye. While peace and tranquility are my main goals, a bit of indulgence is also in the cards..So whether it's the... hot tub under the stars, the 60' flat screen tv, or simply lounging around in the SobreSurGrande terry cloth robes, i've tried to anticipate your needs...If anything is missing, let me know....I get to exercise my inner travel agent!!!

La Casa Principal @ Sobre Sur Grande was lovingly restored from 2007 to 2010 initially by two yoga teachers, one of whom is a designer, the other an art collector. My goal was to create a unique combination of elegance, tranquility and simplicity in a most peaceful locale.
I wanted my home to be luxurious yet comfortable and in tune with the rugged privacy of Big Sur. La Casa Principal offers a Vermont Wood Castings stove complemented by on demand air conditioning/heating. There is top of the line LG washer/dryer, a compact yet complete chef's kitchen featuring All Clad cookware as well as everything you need for preparing a fine meal. A firm believer in indulgence and comfort, i've added Waterworks Satin Nickel bathroom fixtures and deep soaking tub, Yves deLorme and Bellora European linens and thick bath towels. The result is the best of both worlds, total comfort and rustic charm.
La Casa Principal boasts a new dining room with an elegant Italian glass top table seating 10 or more. Downstairs, two bedrooms , one of which is a second two room master suite, provide for complete privacy even for a large group. Each bedroom features an incredibly comfortable bed: The upstairs master has an Airloome Eastern King, The downstairs master offers a Stearns and Foster Cal King, the third bedroom features a Simmons Black Queen. There are also two American Leather queen and a twin sleeper sofas.
In addition paintings from my collection (many of which are for sale) add a special touch.
Located on a promontory, 1200 feet above the Pacific, Sobre Sur Grande offers unobstructed views of the ocean, Rocky Creek Watershed and the Ventana Wilderness. Yet it is only 30 minutes from Carmel and a few more to the center of Big Sur, along one of most beautiful 'commutes' in the world. Choose to stay home watching the raptors glide on the thermals rising up from the canyon below, then call our private chef, yoga teachers and body workers to come to you. Plus you can walk out the door to wonderful hiking up to the ridge line or down to the ocean.. Or jump in your car for a lovely drive to Carmel for golf, wineries, shopping and an indulgent dinner.
Sobre Sur Grande is 2.5 miles up Palo Colorado Road, with it's majestic redwoods and year round creek, then an additional 3/10 miles up a private road. Mill Creek Redwood Preserve is close by and the Botcher's Gap access to Ventana Wilderness provides the most amazing hiking opportunities. Down at the coast, Rocky Creek Restaurant offers incredible ocean front views and a great place to walk (or drive) for breakfast. You're close to the best beach in Big Sur where Garrapata Creek empties into the Pacific. It's spectacular, yet completely accessible to families.
La Casa Principal is built into the hillside, so its two stories offer minimal environmental impact and maximum privacy.
Catering, Massage, and a variety of body work therapies can be arranged as can private yoga sessions. If I am in town, I offer my guests complimentary private yoga For a service charge plus food costs, we're happy to stock the refrigerator with adequate notice.
But if all these indulgences are too hard to choose between, select from these INDULGENCE PACKAGES, priced based upon number of guests:
For the two of you, begin with a special dinner, Champagne and dessert, wake to breakfast prepared for you, then after a few hours a private yoga session for you whether you've never practiced or are very experienced. You'll end with a 3 hour pampering/massage treatment for each of you (male or female).
Includes 1/2 day hike with a knowledgable Big Sur guide, two 60 minute massages from Christina, and dinner from a private chef.
Stay Home and Spa:
If leaving the house seems just too tough, you'll begin with a gentle private yoga session, then a 90 minute massage/pampering treatment, and a spa menu dinner:

Like a Dream...
I rented this home for my best friend's 30th birthday for us and a group of 6 friends. We were coming from la and were already in awe from the drive up the highway, but once we turned off onto the street leading up to the home, we were blown away by the beauty and serenity of the redwood lined street. When we arrived, we immediately walked out onto the deck and wow...what a view. The house was perfect for a relaxing getaway from the city. Tony, thank you so much for your hospitality and for letting us into your beautiful rental. We will definitely be back.
The place is amazing as I'm sure everyone will agree, and the privacy is worth so much. Access to Big Sur is a fantastic drive, and definitely visit Deetjin, Rocky Point. Avoid Carmel, it's very crowded. The beach just north of rocky point has some easy bluff hikes and beachcombing can be a lot fun with all the wildlife.
The interior is impeccable and since the cabin was built within the last year, stylishly modern with breathtaking views out each window. We didn't see anyone really at all, which was perfect! The porch was probably our favorite part, besides every detail of the craftmanship and thought put into the overall experience.
Be sure to apply for your Mill Creek pass two days in advance to allow access to the premier hiking near the end of Palo Colorado road. We made the mistake of waiting the last minute and it's difficult to get a hold of the ranger on duty with no cell service, although hikes exist at the very end of the road. Mill Creek Preserve and Tony's place will be what we're coming back for next summer!
Definitely the place to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Tony has two places here; Sobre Sur Grande (the big house) and La Casita (little house). If you've got a larger group, go for Sobre Sur Grande, but if you just want some "us time" with your significant other, definitely stay at La Casita. We stayed at La Casita for three glorious days. The photos of it are accurate, but pictures really don't capture the incredible views down the canyon to the sea and the peacefulness and serenity; it truly is a place to decompress and think (or not - as you see fit) without any concerns. The arrangement is romantic perfection for a couple; a very comfortable and well-appointed king bed, a large soaking tub for two next to a large window with oak trees just out of reach, and incredible views of the stars from the deck. The kitchen is very well thought-out and everything you would need is right at hand. Tony thoughtfully provided a bottle of Cabernet, sweets, and some freshly roasted coffee beans with a grinder and espresso machine. I mean, really, this is better than a 5-star hotel! Honestly, besides the clothes on your back, all you'll need to bring is some food; everything else is either provided or unneeded. If you're looking for a spot on the Big Sur coast that is romantic, secluded but still accessible, comfortable and cozy, look no further - this is the place. We recommend La Casita and Tony most highly!

Beautiful Weekend Getaway
We just returned from a long weekend at Sobre Sur Grande. What a wonderful house. The views of the canyon and the ocean with the clouds rolling in are stunning. It's quiet, peaceful and relaxing. This house has everything. Espresso maker, fluffy towels and even robes. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is modern and bright. We spent plenty of time on the deck barbecuing and sipping wine while enjoying the view. We would highly recommend this house for your next getaway.
Great getaway, relaxing and rejuvenating!!!
What a great place...perfect for a girls trip/getaway...there were 6 of us!! Tony greeted us and then left us to it, but left very elaborate directions for everything...his house is very accommodating and has everything you would need in the kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom! Once you get up to the house...( it is a little bit of a trek) you don't want to leave! We had breakfast and cooked dinner every night and sat out on the patio enjoying the amazing view and the magical sky and air! Had one day in Carmel, one day in Big Sur and 1 day hiking, all beautiful! The last night we had a sky filled with more stars then any of us had ever seen! Gorgeous. Would love to make it a yearly trip and would highly recommend this house to anyone!

Amazing place to stay
This was the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. The view is really awe-inspiring- you feel surrounded by nature. The house is also beautifully cared for. My only complaint was that our visit (two nights) was too short. It would have been nice to stay a bit longer to be able to get out and do some hiking while also having some time to catch the sites in Monterey and Carmel.
Beautiful view, beautiful place
We stayed at La Casita for two nights in the middle of July and I wish we could have stayed longer. The view is breathtaking and the cabin itself gorgeous.
I absolutely loved waking up to a sea of fog below is outside the huge windows. It felt like we were floating on clouds.
Not only that, but Tony provides all the amenities that one would need: great kitchen appliances, washer and dryer, even coffee and wine. I am so glad we chose this spot for our impromptu weekend getaway.
We Would Return in a Heartbeat!
Our family of 7 had our global reunion at Big Sur this year, staying at Tony's house in the mountains. We looked at the pictures before choosing the property so we knew we were going to somewhere nice. But seeing the house and the environment in person totally beat the photo scenaries. Tony's taste in decor and furniture were impeccable. The level of details he put into consideration for his guests were admirable, even by the level of my picky Wedding Planner sister's standard. My parents who travelled from overseas enjoyed the serene environment and facilities to cook decent meals for us all at dinner time.
Loved the house. Loved the view. Loved the stay.
Amazing. Absolutely perfect location, house, accommodations and
This place is worth it's weight in gold. Seriously. It's got everything you need, and more, to the point where you really only need to bring yourself, and a few fresh veggies, and you're all set. The layout is great for a couple, the deck and views are incredible, even waking up in the fog feels like you're floating. The soaking tub. What can I say? It's one of those things you're in for awhile, and you just melt away. I really want one at home! Tony is fantastic to work with. Great communication, and really made us feel welcome. His book is pretty good to! You won't be disappointed with this one. It's worth paying a visit. We we're there for 2 nights, and honestly, wanted to be there forever.
Amazingly Romantic Getaway! So close to everything but also has
My husband and has gone to Big Sur for many weekend trips since dating because we love it, Carmel and the entire coastal experience. This was the first time we've gone since being married and our first trip away after our first baby was born. We decided to try and make it really special... We hit the jackpot!
My husband found Sobre Sur Grande through an amazing referral from a coworker and from the first time he made reservations to the moment we left it was such a pleasant experience that I was sad driving home.
When we got there it was like we had just got home. Local wine, coffee and kind welcoming notes from Tony the owner.
We had such a great time at the house that all our plans to visit the area went by the wayside because we just never wanted to leave.
I can honestly at that it rivaled our honeymoon!
Thank you Tony for the amazing experience!
We will be back!

Great views, location, immaculate home and gounds.
Our group of 4 adults and 2 large teenage boys stayed for several days at La Casa Principal @ SobreSurGrande and could not have asked for a more convenient, clean and well equipped house. As our home based for sight seeing and hiking along Big Sur the location was central to our day trips. The house is in a quite unique development and there are homes on either side but the slope of the site and placement of the house provided excellent privacy particularly when inside the home, hot tub or on the deck. Views from the home, deck and hot tub of the valley, next set of mountains and the ocean are the perfect beginning and end to long days in the car and hiking. The home is immaculate with nicely updated bathrooms, shampoo and body wash are provided as are all kitchen cleaning supplies. Kitchen is spotless with ample cookware, dishes, plates, etc... which made cooking for and feeding 6 not as issue. The grounds are well kept with a pride of ownership obvious from the condition of the entire property. The description and photos of the property well represent the home and its features. The owner is great to work with providing local knowledge of places to eat, shop, hike, etc... which was especially helpful when traveling from the east coast. The directions to the home provided ( including photos) are spot on and worth printing out and following particularly the first time to the home. Highly recommend arriving while there is some daylight left as the homes along the lower portion of the development built amongst the trees are very interesting and a few turns could be missed in the evening. We would stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay Big Sur.
We celebrated our anniversary at Tony's Casita. It's the perfect combination of the seclusion and tranquility of a treehouse cottage-in-the-woods with the grandeur of a luxurious glorious vista out to the ocean. From both the soaking tub and shower you stare out at the beautiful oaks. From the bed -- which is extremely comfortable with beautiful linens -- you wake to the blue ocean, perfectly framed by the canyon. The gourmet kitchen is tiny -- but wonderfully stocked with high quality cookware and tools. Tony was great to work with -- super responsive and available to answer all questions. And he refunded our security deposit almost immediately upon our departure. Highly recommended.
Great place for a getaway
I recently rented this home for a quick weekend trip. My close group of friend and I go on a trip at least once a year, so I have rented through many different people and places. Tony was by far the easiest renter I have dealt with. He provide quick open communication and gave very detailed instructions that became very important on our journey to the home!
As far as the house it self, the pictures do not give this home justice. Every detail is covered, and clean. Anything you needed was provided. You feel like you're staying in a high end hotel. Tony also provides passes to the aquarium which was a really nice bonus.
I can't say enough positives about Tony and his home, I would definently return.
Thanks for everything Tony!
My partner and I spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at La Casita (the smaller of Tony's two vacation rentals). The quiet, peaceful surroundings were the perfect escape from the noise and traffic of our daily lives. The house is beautiful and modern and had everything we needed - from the very comfy bed to the well stocked kitchen and efficient propane grill on the deck. Tony provided excellent communication and was very accomodating to our needs. Thanks Tony - we'll be back!!!
Side Note: Folks with mobility issues may want to consider staying at the larger house on the property, Sobre Sur Grande, as the path from the parking area to La Casita may be a little too long and steep.
An amazing Place for Relaxation & Rejuvenation
My stay here was better than I could have imagined. The home is full of all the amenities you would need, the views are breathtaking and Tony goes out of his way to accomodate you and your guests. We enjoyed our stay so much we did not want to leave. Looking forward to returning!
A wonderful experience
You couldn't ask for a better host. From the prompt responses to inquiries and easy rental agreement to the helpful notes that allow you to enjoy the property without any grief from either party, the whole stay was amazing.
The house is extremely well equipped for enjoyment: a well equipped kitchen allows you to enjoy espresso and breakfast and a grill to enjoy the vista while entertaining. Additionally, there is plenty of places to relax and lounge after hiking and exploring the surrounding trails.
If that isn't enough, I'd highly recommend topping the nights off with a soak in the hot tub while enjoying the stars, which are magnificent from this vista.
I can't wait to come back!

Amazing views from a Great Home
We had a group of 8 coming for a weekend of rest and fun together, and we found it! Tony was very helpful and timely in his responses to answer so many of my questions before arriving as well as during our stay. He was flexible, kind, and easy to work with. The home was spacious and had great views and large windows just as were described. All the couches and chairs and beds were super comfortable. Kitchen was well-stocked with all that we needed to cook and barbecue great meals together. Access to TV, satellite, netflix is a luxury for us, so we felt very pampered! The downstairs master was cozy and romantic. Our favorite part of the house is the deck and patio spaces that have comfy sitting areas to enjoy the views!
We hope to be back soon!
Be sure and stop in Carmel and get groceries, because you will not want to leave this magical place! The view, the deck, the perfectly appointed kitchen and bedroom...if you are looking to get away and get to a place that will transform your thinking almost instantaneously, this would be a very good place to do it. It's like Four Seasons suite in a treehouse overlooking a redwood canyon and the ocean. And Tony is a great host as well. Highly recommended.
Beautiful, serene spot
My husband and I just stayed at La Casita (the smaller of two houses available on this property) for three nights. It is a lovely two story studio home with views of the ocean from both main rooms. La Casita is well-appointed and beautifully situated in the hills above the ocean and Big Sur. Tony was very easy to work with and flexible. Perfect spot for a romantic getaway.
What a wonderful, beautiful, dream!!!
First off, Tony is awesome. He is the coolest and most helpful host you could ever imagine, encouraging his guests to relax, take it slow, and soak in all of the surrounding beauty. The house was perfectly beautiful and cozy. Amazing deck to take in the incredible views which were also completely visible from the large living room windows. This was the perfect setting for the families to come together and stay for our wedding weekend. Our wedding was magical and Tony's homes (we also rented his awesome small house too) made our stay wonderful and will always be a big part of our memories of one of the most special times in our entire lives. The views can't be beat and each room is very nice and comfy. We were so sad to leave. We love you, Tony and hope to be back one day.
Best Weekend Ever
I planned a surprise birthday weekend for my bf and a group of our friends and everything about the house and Tony made it the best weekend ever!
First of, the house is simply amazing. Great views, so clean with all the amenities you'd need, secluded enough to make you feel like you're in a mountain retreat, near trails (literally you can walk outside and go hiking and we did an afternoon hike as a group), awesome deck (though it was raining and we didn't get to use it much). But despite the rain, the house made the perfect retreat for the weekend.
Tony was so nice and the most gracious host. He was so responsive throughout the booking process, was super accommodating, left us a bottle of wine when we arrive, had extra food in the fridge for us. Honestly I couldn't asked for a better host.
We all loved it and we'd all come back in a heartbeat!
A little piece of heaven!
As part of our honeymoon trip along the PCH, we stayed at La Casita for 2 nights in November of 2012. What a wonderful stay! The cabin is located almost 1/2 way between Carmel and Big Sur. It is perched high in the mountains with an amazing view of the ocean in the distance. The bed faces this view so that you wake up to it each morning. The cabin is extremely clean, decorated very nicely, and has all of the comforts of home. The owner was a real pleasure to work with, even calling to make sure we had arrived safely. We highly recommend this property and hope to make it back someday.

Big Sur ease
Tony's place was a great base camp while in Big Sur for a wedding. It was perfect and relaxing for the bit of time we had when not at wedding festivities, with well stocked kitchen, and super comfy beds. And the deck and view were incredible.
The house is the vacation.
Tony's home was in itself a self-contained vacation. Everything was fitted out to enable an entirely pleasant and stress-free stay, from comfortable bedrooms to abundant kitchenware and quality linens.
We were 8 adults, which in hindsight was probably 1 or 2 too many for the number of bedrooms the house provides, but the 2 of us on the living and dining room sleeper couches were quite comfortable. I can see families with young children especially loving the house, and easily fitting 10 - 11.
Even so, we only ventured out once per day, and were always happy to return. We cooked every meal over our 3 days there in the ample kitchen and on the expansive deck, with its stunning views of the valley and ocean beyond.
Our tendency to stay home was both due to how much we enjoyed the house and because of its seeming remoteness. Access to the house is gained through a few miles of beautifully forested winding, steep roads off Highway 1, a decompression zone between the relative bustle of the highway and the tranquility of the house. Don't stay here if you want to be in the thick of Big Sur/Carmel - it's somewhat removed from everything - but everything is at most a half hour drive away, and staying here you will feel deprived of nothing.
A group of co-workers stayed here recently and had a blast. Great views, great hikes, and lots of fun! I highly recommend!
Sunsets, stars and fresh air
What more could you want?! We had an amazing weekend at Tony's house. Whether we were sitting on the deck enjoying the sunset, grilling up some fresh fish from the market or going for a hike just outside the front door, it was everything we were looking for in a long weekend away from the city. It's been a while since we've seen that many stars and the fresh air is invigorating. Not to mention that the house is well decorated & equipped with everything you need - a fully stocked kitchen, nice bathrooms and comfy beds. Looking forward to returning!
Home away from Home
We had the pleasure of staying at Tony's place in Carmel. This house is a true Home away from Home.
The house was really beautiful, has a very unique character, very comfortable and has all you need to enjoy the stay while you on vacation.
And when you step outside to the deck...this is the "Jewel in the Crown". You will see the sunset you can't see anywhere else. It's the million dollar view!
We really found ourselves waiting every day to the end of it just to come back and enjoy the place.
Access in and out from all attractions and tourists location was easy, quick and simple.
Also dealing with Tony was a real pleasure. He was very responsive and helpful.
If you are looking for a place to stay at the Carmel area - Don't miss the opportunity to stay in this lovely place. You won't regret your choice. It's guaranteed!
Wonderful Getaway: La Casita
We had a lovely stay and hope to return. Everything was exactly as described--nice and comfortable--plus, the view is gorgeous. Thanks, Tony!
Epic place to relax and enjoy Big Sur
We arrived after dark, so we missed the grand entrance. When the sun came up and the fog pushed back we were met with amazing views from a super cool house. If you want to really to understand what the NorCal coast and Bug Sur are all about you should take the opportunity to stay here. I am so glad Tony has opened this spectacular location, so that anyone can enjoy.
Stunning location and property perfectly suited for a couples' r
Beautifully appointed property and ideally located between Carmel and Big Sur...the best of everything the area has to offer. Tony delivered everything as promoted and made things very easy with booking and checking in, a pleasure to deal with. Would highly recommend and have already done so with some close friends.

Lavender scented sunsets over the ocean
The views are incredible -- green forested hillsides roll away to the turquoise ocean dead ahead. What a color palette. The deck is delightful, beds super comfortable, and kitchen equipped for real cooking. Just a warm, cosy place for a family gathering. Wonderful memories.
If you want the whole PCH/Big Sur experience, it's hard to imagine having it better than this. The house is up through a redwood forest sitting high with ocean views and breeze. The turnoff to the house from PCH is right in the center of the most dramatic elements of Pch- the turnoff to the house is only 2 miles from Bixby Bridge, the favorite shot for photographers on the drive. Minutes to drive up to Carmel or Monterrey to stock up on live seafood you can cook right in the contemporary kitchen. Our party is still talking about our "crab festival"! Nothing to say here expect great things.
Best getaway for an intimate gathering
Nine people (myself included) shared this house for a weekend and all agreed we couldn't have picked a better-suited location. The layout was perfect for such a social gathering, yet between a few couples and a few singles, it seemed that everyone had a private place for sleeping. Open feel and coziness, all in the same house! And what a view! From the redwoods down below to the oaks nearby to the ocean...Two miles away!...you've never seen such a dynamic view, not only in topographical and ecological contrast, but meteorological as well. The weather was always perfect and always benign, yet always changing. Quite a show to be viewed from the spacious overhanging deck or comfortable glassed-in living room. Even the drive up through the dark wooded canyon was delightful. I highly recommend and hope to return.

Didn't want to leave!
Not even Sunday traffic returning to Los angeles could dampen the glow we attained at this wonderful house! The accomodations, the view, the quiet and the wonderful surroundings will stay with the four of us for a long time. We hope to return, soon.
We were two parents (in our 60s) and our adult son and daughter-in-law, visiting a cousin in Carmel, and we lucked into Tony's house. Tony made the stay easy and comfortable, with notes about the area, hiking paths, restaurants, and all the information anyone could need for a stay. The house and the neighborhood made the weekend wonderful. Enjoy!

Peaceful, beautiful, quiet, and relaxing
We stayed in the brand new Casita, a 1 bedroom house that is amazing. It's down a path from the main house amid oak trees and facing the ocean. The very large bedroom is separate from the kitchen/living area, and they flow together via an open archway and a few stairs. The house feels hugely spacious because of this and the vaulted ceilings. There is a completely stocked kitchen complete with espresso machine, dishwasher, etc. The bedroom has marvelous natural light - a sliding glass door facing the canyon and ocean, and a huge plate glass window facing oak trees. There is a soaking tub beneath this window. A split level deck is outside of the bedroom and the kitchen area, with glass in place of railings so the view of the ocean is unobstructed. Bring your binoculars!
We loved the place and will most definitely return. It is truly a treasure when you need an escape from your working life.
Hidden Gem with Majestic Views
Our journey to Tony's home started off a bit rocky - there was a tree down on the windy road leading to the home and when we arrived the power was out! Tony was very accessible and helped us find flashlights, etc, but luckily the power came back on in 20 mins. Right away, we knew the minor trouble was worth it - this home looks out over a gorgeous canyon straight to the ocean. The deck is an amazing place to sit back and enjoy, savor a meal outside, grill or play games late into the evening. We ate in one night, then explored Big Sur the next day - hiked, walked the beaches, dinner at Rocky Point restaurant just down the road during the sunset and watched the Super Moon that night. You can also have fresh fish delivered to the house which we'll do next time. Tony gave us a late checkout and an extra night for free for the slight hassle we went through. With or without it, we'll definitely be back!
Mountain View, CA
I stayed in this beautiful home in late april with a group of 8 ladies. We all enjoyed it tremendously, and there was more than enough room for everyone to sleep comfortably. The views are amazing, the beds are wonderful, each room has it's own little patio, and all the amenities are there. I absolutely plan on returning!
Such a wonderful home. Really welcoming with all the amenities you need to hunker down and relax. Space is flexible enough that a couple could enjoy it on their own with it being 'too much' or a larger group could find room to not be on top of one another.
The location is great -- We were happy to stay put, but you can easily make your way to Carmel or Big Sur. Definitely recommend arriving during daylight initially, as the narrow roads might be a bit more adventure than you are seeking come nightfall.
Tony was responsive and thorough in his communications - making this, my first experience renting from an individual, an easy one.

fantastic home !, beautiful location
We stayed three nights in this fabulous home. The place is way better than the pictures can show. The home is beautiful inside and outside, and of course the views are magnificent!. The kitchen is well equiped and the bedrooms and baths are excellent, especially downstairs. Our two teen boys had a great time in this place, just relaxing and watching movies. You can tell how this house was built and decorated with love and good taste.
Relaxing long weekend at Tony's jam
We had an amazing time at Tony's place.
We were 7 people - us a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) and my parents. It was not crowded at all.
The house has the best views ever of the ocean and surrounding area (from way up the mountain), all very clear and not foggy at all. Everything is serene and quiet I could easily just read a book on the veranda all day long (while the 3 little ones were running around exploring the garden all around the house).
The kitchen is well equipped, plus some items to make you feel welcome - a bottle of wine, coffee for the coffee machine (espresso!!), enough dishes and tons of towels and sheets, and everything clean and comfy.
Wireless internet was very handy as well, since cell reception is quite poor / nonexistent.
The only thing that was challenging for us were the winding stairs, since our little one is under 2 and is walking around, so the stairs had to be blocked to avoid him venturing down alone..
We would definitely come back, and already recommended the place to all our friends.

The perfect birthday retreat
My family and I just recently stayed at Tony's house for a long weekend to celebrate my birthday on 11/11/11. We were looking for a house close to the town of Big Sur, that could sleep 8-10 people and I'm so happy that we found this house on Vrbo. The house is nestled at the top of a serene ridge with sweeping views of the Palo Colorado Canyon and the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. The ammenities in the house left me wishing that I had similar ammenities in my own home - the beds were amazingly comfortable, the kitchen was perfectly stocked with appliances and utensils, including an espresso machine and a gas grill on the deck, that my uncle used to cook a gourmet meal, the living space has amazing views and the grounds personify the ideal beauty that nature has to offer. It was like a scene out of a movie to wake up and see three young does looking in the downstairs bedroom windows. There are amazing hiking trails that are easily accessible from the house - from mellow strolls along the coast to vigorous climbs into the Ventana range. My family and I all agreed that it was really difficult for us to leave when the weekend was up - we were plotting schemes to figure out how we could stay there forever. I highly recommend Tony's house if you're planning on staying in the Big Sur/Carmel area - we definitely plan on staying there again in the future!

A beautiful, peaceful, and serene home!
We were absolutely thrilled when we arrived at the house! The home is beautiful inside and out! We were very comfortable and felt very welcome. When we arrived, there was a bottle of wine and a warm welcome note waiting for us. This is a great place to rent for a family get-together! The house is warm and cozy, and we had the most wonderful time! The view from the deck is breathtaking, especially at sunset! The whole experience was very positive, from making the initial arrangements, to spending time at the house. We were sad when we had to leave, because we wished we could have stayed longer! We will definitely rent this house again in the future!!! I highly recommend this rental property!!!

Serene Getaway with Spectacular Views
I had missed my fiances 30th birthday the year before due to a conflicting family get together so decided to make it up to him for his 31st this year. I went on Vrbo and fell in love with Tony's home so I pulled the trigger pretty quickly. There were 8 of us that all slept very comfortably and enjoyed brunches and dinners on the patio looking out at the incredible ocean views, sunsets and stars. I would aboslutely return to this stunning home. The surrounding views make you not even want to leave the home although we did take a beatiful 3.5 mile hike through the redwoods to breakfast one morning. Tony is very generous and wonderful to work with as well. The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the drive up. There are narrow, unpaved and steep hills so make sure you bring the appropriate car! Other than that I wish I could go every weekend!

Amazing property... can't recommended it enough !
We rented this property as a family retreat, as we felt this would be a much better option than staying in separate hotel rooms in the Carmel area... we were so right. The initial drive up to the property was quite weary after the very long but incredibly scenic drive from Southern California, but the property was very well sign posted,so we found it with no problems. You have to drive up so high to get the fantastic views... well worth it.
Upon arrival we were welcomed with a bottle of wine and fresh coffee beans, a lovely touch... Thank you Tony. Like other reviewers have said the property was immaculate and very well thought out. We also cooked and ate (BBQ was very handy!) instead of eating out as we felt that after spending the days at Carmel and Monteray we wanted to relax and enjoy the very comfortable house and wine! The open plan of the kitchen and lounge area was also very sociable.
The only unfortunate thing was that as we went out during the days to explore the surrounding area by the time we returned to the house late each afternoon the coastal fog was already drawing into the Valley. A real shame that we didn't get to see the amazing view only fleetingly when we first arrived.. a stunning gleamer of what some lucky guests will experience.
The beach not far from the end of the road is well worth a visit, not suitable for bathing but for shear beauty and photographic opportunities of the rugged, wild coast line and beautiful unsploit sandy beach... a must see.. and don't forget to allow time for a stroll. Carmel and 17 mile drive also a must do trip.
There was plenty of room for our party of 9 and the facilities were top notch. We definitely made the right decision not to stay in a nearby hotel and will hopefully return again one day when visiting California. I have already recommended to a friend who is visiting the area next Spring.
We didn't want to leave!
We stayed at Tony's house for 2 wonderful nights over Labor Day weekend, but we really wished we could have stayed for longer.
Our group was made up of 12 twenty-somethings. Tony was very patient and helpful as I got all the people together and solidified the plans for our stay.
To get to the house, you take a beautiful drive along the coast, and then up though tall dreamy redwoods on Palo Colorado Road. It's surreal when you arrive at the house for the first time. The place is surrounded by lavender and it feels like the top of the world.
We spent a lot of our time out on the warm deck admiring the view, watching the fog roll in and out. We grilled our hearts out. We baked. We made coffee. We had nearly all the equipment we needed to make all our meals, the only thing I was missing was a rolling pin, but we made do with a wine bottle.
Even though there were 12 of us, everyone had a comfortable bed to sleep in. The pull-outs were amazingly comfortable. There were enough towels and bed linens for all of us. The bathrooms were spotless and spa-like. There's one big shower and one extremely deep bathtub. No complaints about the amenities.
The drive down to the beautiful coast is not very long... maybe 10 minutes. The nearest grocery store is 25 minutes away in Carmel, so we made sure to stock up before heading to the house so we would have all the food we needed for the weekend.
The best parts about the house: the big deck, the view, the pull-out beds, and Tony's hospitality. Thinking about it makes me miss it.
No doubt about it, we will be back.
Big Sur Splendor
Our family stayed at this beautiful mountain retreat in July on a California coast vacation. Loving touches throughout the house make you feel like an honored guest, not an occupant of an investment property as at some places. We loved everything about the house, and my only hesitation in recommending it is that we don't really want to let the secret out about what a great home it is!
fantastic stay with beautiful view..
Tony's home is absolutely beautiful. The view is unparalleled, the details of the house have all been thought about. The beds are super comfortable and I wish we would have stayed longer. We travelled with a 2 year old and a 10 year old - and they had many things outside to occupy themselves with. A peaceful haven.

House with to die for views, luxurious and cozy!!
Everything about this house was perfect. The views were to die for, you will never want to leave the front porch!! We spend more time relaxing and cooking at the house than we had planned on because it was so cozy. But it was also luxurious, with very comfortable high end bedding. We never had to use the air or the heat, the weather was perfect. Tony has everything you could ever need, just pack your clothes.
This home looked great on the website, but it was even better when we arrived. The house was well appointed, and the views were spectacular! I would highly recommend this home to anyone who wants a peaceful, relaxing retreat.

Best place to reconnect and relax with friends and family
My husband and I stayed here with our two toddlers and our best friends who have a toddler. After driving up the winding roads, we stepped out of the car and the view took our breath away. The photos simply do not do the house justice. The view is spectacular. The deck has a great table for dining and comfy chairs. Most of our time was spent on that deck overlooking the valley, watching the fog roll in. I wish we could have stayed longer. This house allowed us to relax and reconnect with our best friends who live on the West Coast, while we live on the East. It was the perfect place for us. The beds were so comfy and the soaking tub in the downstairs bathroom was amazing! There are two master suites, which made staying with another couple no problem. Tony had coffee and a bottle of wine waiting for us. His list of restaurant recommendations were terrific. Especially Bicyclette in Carmel. Fantastic! We came to visit Big Sur, but we found ourselves soaking up as much time as we could in this beautiful home. We felt as though we were in our own private tree-house. Tony was wonderful to work with and we are already trying to figure out when we can return to this amazing home! Thanks Tony!
Brilliant Family Retreat
Our family - two adults, two children (aged 5 and 8) had an outstanding 5 night stay in this house, which is everything (and more) suggested by the photos. The view held us in thrall and the kids still talk about it - clouds sweeping up the valley, the colors changing as the sun set, etc. Both children, esp. the 8yo, spent hours in the beautiful garden with notebook and pencils - documenting the activities of two families of quail, the various birds and other small animals. The house is very well appointed - everything you need in the kitchen, all linens, etc. Kids enjoyed an on demand video one night - while we relaxed on the deck. Nice to have our laptops using the wireless for the few times we needed it. Kids enjoyed some days at Lover's Point In Pacific Grove swimming (about 25 min drive). Cooking and eating our family dinners on the deck were a highlight! Loved the great red wine and organic coffee beans waiting for us when we arrived. We knew we'd have a great break - as we had exchanged many helpful emails with Tony about various details. He was a great resource, and his house a real haven at the end of a busy school/work year. Look forward to returning again soon. And this time with grandparents in tow - loads of room for us all to enjoy our space. Thanks Tony for a great vacation.

Best Girls' Retreat Location!
My college girl friends and I stayed at Tony's place for 4 nights. It was a great place to reconnect with old friends. The view is spectacular, the place was very clean and welcoming. Very well-designed. With 8 people it never felt crowded. Tony was incredibly helpful and kind through the whole process and was quickly handled the refundable deposit (which I was very grateful for). If you're looking for a real getaway from the city, this is it!

Comfortable and Scenic Vacation Getaway
Tony's frequent and detailed emails assisted us in planning and preparing for this vacation. The home was spacious, with a great room and deck for our family times together and 3 comfortable and private bedrooms. We loved the combination of mountain and ocean scenery and the floral landscaping. At breakfasts and for one dinner, we dined at home. The kitchen was well appointed with a variety of quality appliances. We enjoyed the use of the grill on the deck and the sunny dining room. The laundry downstairs was super for us with an active three-year-old. We appreciated our proximity to beaches and parks for hiking and sightseeing, plus nearby restaurants that were situated on the spectacular coastline. Tony's Wolff signs on the road from Route 1, plus his web pictures, map, and directions, made it easy to find the house. The road up the mountain through the beautiful forest of redwoods was picturesque. We felt very welcome in this home.
A dream house that we get to share
We spent a bit more than our original budget to stay at this place. The reason we actually chose it was because it was one of the few places that was prepared to take credit cards directly (rather than via Paypal). Credit cards offer more protection than Paypal if you are UK based.
We didn't regret blowing our budget. The house is clearly Tony's dream home that he has decided to share. It is a fantastic location and a really comfortable and tranquil place to holiday. We had lots of plans to do lots of things in the Big Sur area but we ended up spending a lot of time just sitting on the balcony watching over the trees out to the sea. Read more

thanks so much for your kind words...I'm amazed at how many guests don't go do all the things they'd planned and just hang out on the deck!
start slow...then taper off
Very, very nice
We just loved the place. The house was great and the view spectacular. Tony was a real joy to work with. We look forward to returning in the future.

We had an amazing experience at this beautiful retreat in Big Sur. From the cozy beds, to the exquisite views and the attention to detail in the house...we couldn't have asked for more. It was a great getaway for our family. Highly recommended...you won't be disappointed!
Can't wait for the opportunity to go back!
Beautiful view, great place to get away and decompress from
life's pressures. I loved looking at the canyon view in the morning while I enjoyed my coffee. Short drive from Big Sur or Carmel/Monterey and all that is offered there.
Tony was very helpful with info and even though we haven't met I feel as if he is my friend. He was very interested in our stay and concerned that we had a good time.
Relaxing, relaxing, relaxing
The space that Tony has created is unbelievable. The views are spectacular. The house is comfortable, with an extremely comfortable bed in the master bedroom. The bathtub downstairs was amazing. The kitchen has everything you would need. My boyfriend and I live busy lives and we stayed at the house the whole time and just relaxed. I can't say enough good things about the space. It's highly recommended.

Wonderful private house in Big Sur
We had a great weekend at the house in Big Sur. It was nice to be up in the hills and have a deck and garden to explore. The house was great and I would love to go back with a larger group for a relaxing weekend. Would recommend to anyone looking to have their own homebase while exploring Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey or just wanting some time away from it all.

Like Staying in a Postcard
"From the majestic view to the clean, comfy furniture, this house was fantastic. If you or a group want to experience the best of Big Sur, this is your destination. The owner provides a sanctuary. One is hard to pick a favorite feature but I would have to say the sunsets over the ocean on the deck was probably my favorite part. I am a clean freak and this place was immaculate. The bedrooms are lovely, the kitchen appliances work like a dream, and the water tastes amazing. From the little things to the big things, I would have to say this place handles it all. This is a place that can mend the soul. "
The Perfect Getaway
When some friends and I started thinking about a place to spend our week long break from school, we wanted a nice quiet place to unwind and recover from the turmoil of mid term exams. Tony Wolff's place in Big Sur ended up providing us with exactly what we wanted and then some.
The place was very comfortably furnished and had everything we needed for the entire week. The beds were extremely comfortable and the cleanliness of the house made us feel right at home. The house was spacious and we were even thinking the place could be great for groups or 6 or more as well! The affordable price made us feel even more comfortable!
The view was the best part. We watched every sunset that week from the back porch and we even got to watch the amazing birds that regularly patrol the valley below.
I would suggest this place to anyone wanting to experience a nice, quiet escape to the beauty of nature. Thank you Tony! We will never forget our stay at your home!

Solitude in Big Sur mountains
Comfortable home nestled in the Big Sur mountains with stunning views of surrounding area and Pacific Ocean.
Quiet, peaceful, away from it all. A great place to reconnect with nature, yourself and friends.
