Brief description: This wonderful cabin was built... by one of the area's premiere builders, who specializes in creating very rustic, historic looking cabins, with very fine finish details and amenities. There is a sense of Old West history here, yet you will enjoy fine linens, tasteful artwork and completely modern and up to date amenities. The Boulder River Cabin and Barn are on 60 acres along a private stretch of the Main Boulder River, just south of McLeod. This road does have some truck traffic on it during weekdays, as it leads to an operating mine at the end of the East Boulder Road. The roadside edge of the property is protected from the traffic by a high, solid wood fence.
Bedroom and baths: There are two spacious bedrooms in the home, each with a private bath with a great soaking tub and shower in each bathroom. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. The second bedroom has two twins, or they can be pulled together to make up a queen size bed. The front porch of the house has a sofa that will also pull out to a futon style bed for an additional sleeping area.
Kitchen: This kitchen has absolutely everything you will need to cook up a hearty breakfast before going fishing. There is a charcoal BBQ grill for your evening dinner. All cookware, serving ware, utensils and a spice cabinet are there for guests.
Dining area: The dining table is just off the living room and seats up to eight guests comfortably. You can also head out on the back deck and dine at the picnic table overlooking the river.
Living room: Cozy living room situated around the woodstove for chilly evenings. Additional seating areas out in the front porch allow room to spread out for your group. The living room is set up with a television, VCR player and satellite service. There are no movies for the VCR but there is a rental shop in Big Timber. There is a stereo system with a CD player at the cabin also.
Setting, acreage, views: From the back door, head out and explore the 60 acres and half mile of river frontage on the Boulder River. This river is a great size for wade fishing or for kids to splash around and play. Meandering walking paths around the property make for very easy exploring! Drive a little bit farther up the main road and you will find trailheads for hiking or biking up into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness area. Natural Bridge park at the Main Boulder and Indian caves are just a couple of the nearby hikes.
Activities nearby: Besides fishing on the Main, East and West Boulder River, there is hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails, horseback riding, golf, skiing, tours of Yellowstone National Park, and everything that the towns of Big Timber, Livingston and Bozeman have to offer.
Closest town and airport: It's about 20 miles to Big Timber, just under an hour to Livingston, and 1.5 hours to Bozeman's Gallatin Field airport. Yellowstone National Park is just under two hours away.
Additional amenities include: wood stove, under 2 hrs to yellowstone park, cd player, in green homes program, on 40-100 acres, washer & dryer.Read more

We loved the home! It was such an amazing home. There was nothing we needed that wasn't there. Very disappointed in fishing, but no one can predict that.

The "wow" Factor

Our first exclamation of "wow" came as we turned left onto East Boulder Rd and saw the beautiful stretch of prime fishing water in front of the cabin. The "wows" continued as we drove into the pristinely manicured yard and entered the patio/barbeque area. To our delight, the inside of the cabin was even more spectacular than the pictures on the internet portrayed. I staked my claim in the completely equipped dream kitchen as cooking is one of my favorite joys. The cabin layout was perfect, dining at the harvest table with a great view of the river was awesome. The living room was spacious, but warm and cozy. The bedrooms were nicely separated away from the main living area by a wide hallway giving a very private feeling. Each bedroom has its own private, very spacious bath. The decorations were so unique, finding more with each nook and cranny, antique tools, farming and hunting tools and cowboy and indian artifacts. The selection and quantity of books was outstanding. The rustic warmth of the decor and lighting made you want to sit & read, so relaxing. The fishing was very good, catching cutthroat, cutbow, rainbow and brown trout. Easy access to the river via nicely mown paths. Wildlife was abundant, which included our resident rabbits, a doe with twin fawns still with their spots and a black bear that visited the gravel bar on the river in front of the cabin. Eagles were seen daily. We ended each evening relaxing on the deck, enjoying the night sky filled with stars. We even saw several shooting stars. Listening to the nearby pack of coyotes was eery but very fascinating & we looked forward to hearing them nightly. The cabin was very clean, well equipped in all rooms,i.e. linens, paper goods. We could not have asked for more with this cabin except, of course, a longer stay. Thank you to Mountain Home Rental agency & the property owner for allowing us to enjoy this piece of heaven. We are already planning a return for next year. Our best Montana vacation!

Driving through the gate of the big wooden fence you find a totally private oasis along the Boulder River. The grounds are green, birds abound and the river is cool and full of trout. We fished everyday watched birds from the deck, as saw deer playing with their fawns and one early morning spotted a wolf. The house was extremely comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped, making meals at home a delight. Everything you might want to enjoy a relaxing vacation was there, including good books to read and a telescope to view the stars. There was little reason to venture beyond the gates though we did enjoy eating at the Road Kill Cafe and the Grand Hotel in Big Timber and hiking in neighboring valleys.

This house was a joy! It was the perfect place to relax after several busy days of touring Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. We loved it!
The only small negatives were the distance to Big Timber for restaurants, and the number of flies in the house.

the house was incredible-something out of a magazine- fully furnished with everything needed and more. the view from the back deck was stunning-the river was enjoyed by the two fisherman in the house.eventhough we had to drive a bit, it was not a huge problem , we enjoyed the sights along the way. my family and i can only give positive reviews on the house and the people who managed the property- they were wonderful and made us feel very welcomed! we would certainly stay there again(hopefully we will) thank you so much for such a wonderful place to stay.
