Additional Location Information

Biglerville is a small, quiet town six miles north of Gettysburg and is situated in the heart of apple country. The surrounding rolling countryside is some of the most scenic in the state. In town you can walk to a very well-stocked locally-owned supermarket, pharmacy, gas station, two banks, a hardware store, alcoholic beverage store, and four restaurants-- one of which certainly qualifies as fine dining. In the heart of town is the famous Thomas Brothers Country Store where Ike and Mamie Eisenhower occasionally shopped. Just down the street is the National Apple Museum which is open by appointment and for which the owners volunteer. In addition to the Gettysburg National Military Park, within a short drive are many other local attractions such as several fruit stands, the Round Barn, Gettysburg Outlets, state parks, and many historical points of interest in Harrisburg, York and Chambersburg. Serious hikers will want to do some of the Appalachian Trail, just a 15 minute drive away. In fact, the midway point of this historic trail is in nearby Pine Grove Furnace State Park where you can also enjoy the newly-opened AT Museum. Day trips are feasible to Washington and Baltimore (1.5 hours) and Philadelphia ( 2.5 hours). Antietam Civil War Battlefield site is just over an hour away. Guests who plan an extended stay here will be able to take in other sites of major interest if they stay overnight at such destinations as New York City, the Poconos, Catskills, Pittsburgh, Shenandoah Valley/Skyline Drive and the Mid-Atlantic beaches. All are within an easy half-day drive.
