Fred Thomas Resort is located on a private peaceful wooded point of land over looking the main part of Big Lake Chetac and Thomas Bay. A true feeling of the northwoods surrounds this area with abundant forrest land. A short 5 minute drive will find you in the village of Birchwood which has a small grocery store, two convenience stores, eating establishments, gift shops, beauty shops, bank, hardware store, and lumber yard. A few more minutes and you can be golfing at Tagalong on Red Cedar Lake.

  My husband and I recently were blessed with a much needed vacation. We love to fish, and my husband wanted to go back to the Birchwood area where we had visited many years ago. I agreed on the condition that we stay some place other than where we had stayed before. Our on-line search landed us at Fred Thomas Resort. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. The property is lovely, very well-maintained, beautiful flower gardens, and right on the lake! We were greeted by one of the co-owners who lives right on the property, and she was very friendly and accommodating. The property has been passed down through the family and its history is documented in a scrapbook in each cabin - quite a charming touch! I think it is that pride in heritage that must motivate the owners to keep the property so well-maintained.
  
  Our cabin was very nice, super clean, with many updates. The kitchen was well-equipped with all of the basic items one would need. I would say nothing fancy or luxurious, just good-old-fahioned quality!
  
  We also were pleaed to find everything we needed right on the resort property. Bait, gasoline, and even a small assortment of grocery items in the office. We were able to park our boat in the "boat house" which was located jsut steps from our cabing allowing us to easily take it out when we wanted. The fishing was decent and we were able to bring some fish home for the freezer. My husband described the fish cleaning house as "deluxe" - high praise for a fish cleaning house!
  
  We did find the route for the boat ramp to be a bit challenging. It is very narrow and curvy - with a couple of big trees located very close. One day I did see someone pulling a pontoon boat up the boat ramp and the boat hit one of th trees as he we went around the curve. Fortunately, my husband was very cautios and we were able to get our boat in and out without incident!
