Fred Thomas Resort is located on a private peaceful wooded point of land over looking the main part of Big Lake Chetac and Thomas Bay. A true feeling of the northwoods surrounds this area with abundant forrest land. A short 5 minute drive will find you in the village of Birchwood which has a small grocery store, two convenience stores, eating establishments, gift shops, beauty shops, bank, hardware store, and lumber yard. A few more minutes and you can be golfing at Tagalong on Red Cedar Lake.

  I've been going to this resort for about 15 years, at least once, sometimes twice per summer. I almost hate to give up my secret place, but the people that own the resort are just so nice it's not fair to let the world know. And for the first time in all those years, my wife agreed to go this year and she absolutely loved it! She was so impressed by the condition and cleanliness of the entire resort and was overcome by the beauty of the lake. Fortunately, we had a lakeside cabin, lots of windows to take advantage of the view; everything here is so well thought out and the cabin layouts are no different. Each unit is oriented to take advantage of the lake views, with clean, comfortable recliners and sofas, clean bedding, screened in porches and beautiful landscaping. Bring your own towels but almost everything else is supplied; well equipped kitchens, and each unit has a Weber grill and outdoor seating for picnics. This unit (#1) is my favorite as it sits at the end of the resort, nearest one to the water and the pontoons I always rent. It has two t.v.'s but we only turn them on for the weather; there's just too much else to enjoy when you're there. They added wifi about two years ago and I was sort of sorry they did, though the convenience is nice. Not sure how to explain the next part, but each time I go it's almost like I step back in time, to a quieter, gentler time when life was more simple. In 15 years we've never locked a door and we leave thousands of dollars of equipment on the boats and never once has there been an issue. And have I mentioned how nice the people are? Yes, it's a service business but how many places do you go expecting good treatment only to be disappointed? Not here, not ever! Go to there website for more on the facilities, but trust me, you will not be disappointed. I encourage you all to go, just leave me a couple of weeks a summer, okay?
