Fred Thomas Resort is located on a private peaceful wooded point of land over looking the main part of Big Lake Chetac and Thomas Bay. A true feeling of the northwoods surrounds this area with abundant forrest land. A short 5 minute drive will find you in the village of Birchwood which has a small grocery store, two convenience stores, eating establishments, gift shops, beauty shops, bank, hardware store, and lumber yard. A few more minutes and you can be golfing at Tagalong on Red Cedar Lake.

The motto of the resort is "perpetually new," which is a perfect description! This was our family's 48th year at the resort, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of our family look forward to this summer vacation here each and every year! We have stayed in several of the wonderfully furnished and beautifully decorated cottages throughout the years. You can't go wrong with any of the cottages available to you. It is a wonderful setting for a family to enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods. And there is so much to do at the resort and the surrounding area ranging from the most relaxing to the highly energetic options!
On Monday evenings, the resort organizes games for the children visiting that week. It's an opportunity for guests to meet each other early in the week that ultimately promotes and leads to friendships for all age groups. Also, the resort has a wonderful playground area outside as well as a rec room indoors that keeps the kids busy from the time they wake up to the time for much needed sleep after a very busy and exciting day!
There is so much that could be said about the resort itself, and comments would all be positive and complimentary. But it's very important to mention the people who continue to run this "perpetually new" resort...the Thomas Family. The 3rd and 4th generations are currently running the resort, and not too many resorts can make that kind of statement these days! Obviously our family is very close to the Thomas family considering our many years vacationing there. But no matter if you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned visitor of 48 years, the entire Thomas family and staff treat you as if you are their most important guest. It's that kind of service and compassion that could not be replicated anywhere else.
We thank the Thomas family for continuing the vision and traditions of Fred Thomas by providing a resort for families to share a special time together with memories that will last a lifetime! -

We stayed in cabin 10a in July 2012 & liked it so much we went back in Sept. 2012. I've never stayed in a northwoods lake resort so clean & well appointed. The fishing was great, the grounds were meticulously maintained, the cabin wonderful, & the owners very friendly & helpful. The fish house didn't smell! They have an area to dock your boat at night that is under cover with battery charging hook-ups & motion sensory lighting.
We look forward to visiting again next year. -

My family has been going to Fred Thomas for 50 Years and (3) generations. You will not find a better value for you money than this facility. We have stayed in many of the cabins and apartments and they are all completely modern and beautify decorated. Great fishing along with great people. You will not find a facility of this caliber within a several hundred mile radius. Can't wait to make the trip each year.
