      Comfortable rooms and picturesque scenery

Left on 01/18/2013 for a stay in December 2012

My fiance and I recently stayed here at Christmas and we had a wonderful time! Our room was spacious and beautifully furnished and included a fireplace with plenty of wood that made the room very cozy. We had breakfast in the dining room, which had a gorgeous view of the grounds through the big windows, and then drove the short way to Hoodoo for some snowboarding. The staff was helpful and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. We are already planning when we can go back! I highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway amid natural beauty.

view from the veranda off our room. Christmas day.

The food was great. The horse back riding was great. Some, not all, of the staff were snobs. Most of the folks that lived there were snobs. And on top of that I found hair in my bed, in the sheets.

Lovely view in somewhat upgraded hotel room.

Left on 11/03/2012 for a stay in September 2012

This unit was very nice although I could've done with less family photos of the owners. As a resort guest, I don't necessarily need to be reminded that this is someone's personal property. I too own a rental unit, which I tend to decorate with less identifying info and more interesting art, etc. Good reading selection though. For the price, this unit is basically a hotel room, with a refrigerator smaller than is found in most. Lovely resort.

It was a perfect choice for our 20th anniversary celebration!

Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband and I love to play golf, wanted a quiet place to stay with a lovely view, and didn't want to have to dress formally for dinner, but still have an elegant place to eat with wonderful food. Well, we found all that and more at Black Butte Resort! The room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely view. The restaurant is lovely with magnificent views from every table, outstanding service, and 5-star food. Our only complaint is that the roads from the golf course to the visitor center are not well marked and we were very confused, tired and it was getting dark. We were supposed to be checking in after our round of 18 holes and had a difficult time find the building. But, after asking one of the residents for help, we made it, and all was fine after that. We suggest a much clearer map and better signs. Otherwise, we loved everthing, including your beautiful golf courses. Thank you.

We rented a beautiful well furnished condominium overlooking the mountains. It was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Our meals at the Lodge were delicious and the servers were helpful and fun while still very professional. The weather was sunny and pleasant and the walking paths were clean and wonderful in every way. Our stay was just one night because of other obligations, but we will return for a longer visit soon.

      Nice getaway in winter

Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in January 2012

We came out from Portland during a big storm in the mountains which was beautiful but also a scary drive. It was nice to arrive at a cozy room with real wood fireplace. We stayed mostly at the condo and went to the Lodge. We also rode the horse carriage they had for the holidays. This is a cozy room with a nice view. I have to say, Black Butte - instead of salting and re salting and salting again the stairs to the Lodge as the snow melts - you could shovel the snow off the steps just after it falls. That's how we do it in Wisconsin. Less work and better result!

We really enjoyed our stay, we loved the area. Couldn't use the TV because no one knew how to work it (staff). We also didn't realize how small it was going to be but we loved the long walks, the comfortable bed, the golfing. We hope to return next summer.

      Vacation

Left on 08/08/2011 for a stay in July 2011

I have left my review/comments and did have Kristin return my call; however, the entire experience was far from what we have experienced and expected over the past 30 years.

We checked into a room which was not what we had requested; the desk clerk confirmed it but did not know what to do until a wonderful man (our only positive experience...M Willis?) handled it. We passed 3 hours until a correct unit was cleaned and we could check in. It was cold and uncomfortable and we did not have anywhere to really go. We checked in and the TV remote did not work; had to call housekeeping and after some study, the housekeeper was able to show us. The drain in the bathroom did not drain and it was uncomfortable to use the sink. Would you like brushing your teeth in the tub?
Accidentally, my husband (due to the stress) left his sweater, swimming trunks in a drawer but we were not able to go into the unit as housekeeping said the owners were there. No one was in the unit for two days as we then moved to relatives and still no car or no response when we knocked. We were told that no one found the items. Several days passed and Kristen did call and said they were found and mailed back. The apology was less than sincere. We did get the night gratis because we said we were not going to pay anything...it wasn't worth anything. This is not the Black Butte we have known and loved. Hope training and management can reach higher standards.

Response from Black Butte Ranch - 08/09/2011

      Black Butte Ranch

      Manager

We are sorry that this guest did not feel our staff's efforts went above and beyond to help them or that they weren’t perceived as sincere. The Ranch did the following to assist this guest:

The owner of the vacation rental helped us search for 2 days in his 5 units for the items left behind. They did turn up with some of his wife’s things that she thought belonged to their friends.

The owner personally brought them over and we mailed them right away, all the while leaving voice mails for the guest as to the status of trying to locate the missing swim suit and sweater between housekeeping lost and found, their vehicles, speaking to the girls that cleaned the vehicles, a personal inspection by our staff and the owners.

We spoke with the guest only once, it was brief in nature as we talked around 6pm, dinner time.

She was supposed to call us back and never did.

Our rafting trip got screwed up from the reservations office even though I made sure everything was set back in March. So there was no reason for it, but mistakes do happen. It was sad that we planned our whole vacation excitedly around the rafting trip though!(I even cried out of frustration, LOL) But The manager called the following day and made it up to us by offering another stay & rafting trip if we'd come back. She was very sweet.

We love Black Butte, but our accommodations this time were horrible. I would never again stay in that particular room. It was worse than a hotel room. I was there with my daughter and didn't even have a place to sit, other than the bed. Never again

The unit was just okay. The bed needs a new
