Black Butte Ranch has been a long-time favorite of mine, and this recent stay again satisfied all of my expectations. The natural beauty of the area has been largely undisturbed by the placement of the golf courses, lodging, and attendant amenities. We will be back to again enjoy this marvelous area. Our rooms were clean and very pleasant. The lodge food was better than most and somewhat reasonably priced. The two golf courses are suburb, and the staff very honest and helpful.

The front desk people were great. We stayed in one of the hotel units and were very dissatisfied with our room as it seemed to smell old and the carpet was dirty and the people next door to us had two dogs that barked quite frequently. The golf course was beautiful and my wife had a spa treatment which she enjoyed but the shower area was combined with the swimming pool area which made the spa treatment not as personal. We booked two nights but only stayed one as the front desk manager was very accommodating to our needs to leave early because we were not satisfied with our room. I guess we should have rented a house instead.

Portland, ORA few improvements and it would be great.

The place was clean and nicely simple. But there were a few things that really could be addressed to make the stay better.
1. Mainly, the mattress in the back bedroom (opens to the back deck) was horrific. Thinking it over, we should have switched places because of it. The mattress was so old (and cheap?), any weight caved it deeply into the center; too sleep on, it was extremely uncomfortable.
2. Seems odd that the refrigerator and microwave were in separate rooms.
3. The outside storage held old bikes that couldn't even be used. Would have been nice to have more room to put the bikes we brought.
But otherwise, the place was nice and in good condition.
One other note. We were unaware that the pools required we bring our own towels. So a note (e-mail) to guests before they arrive would be very helpful.
And the security cards to open the gates worked 1 out of 10 times. Really annoying.
Thanks. Not trying to be too negative; just making suggestions to create a better experience. We will be back to Black Butte.

Bbr is located in a beautiful, beautiful setting!! Meadows, Mountains and clear blue skies!! Loved the meadows and the horses and the cattle! Pretty good restaurant in the Lodge. Staff was nice and even helped me find a veterinarian very quickly as my dog had become ill when we arrived. Thank you! I'll come back!

Another couple and us rented this unit. One of the rooms has a fireplace and one has room for a card table to be set up. The beds were comfy and the room was warm. The unit was very clean. It was an older unit and had a musty smell when we first entered, but we opened the windows and that took care of that, as it was winter ... summertime would be nice as there is a very large patio area to sit out, BBQ, and visit. This unit is walking distance to the restaurant, but not the sauna or spa ... you have to drive a ways to get there. I personally did not wish to sit in a cold car to and from the spa ... so didn't get to use it. Next time...

The lodge is very nice, next door to the activity center and restaurant. The grounds are beautiful with quite a few activities to choose from. We would go back, next time I think we would rent a larger cabin but for the three nights we were there this was fine.

1--did not request room service or was told someone would enter the room. Not good.
2- I did not bring a dog because of the enormous deposit, (for a Pomeranian no less), When the throw rug which must have cost about 2.99 in front of the sliding door had a huge stain on it from someone previous.
3- Opened the freezer and the door fell off because of the ice buildup inside.
4- interior needs some remodeling. woodwork all banged up etc.
5- I have actually stayed at some better Super 8's at 1/3 the cost
6- to stay at "Black Butte " must just be a novelty Idea because it was "some place" at one time.Response from Black Butte Ranch - 12/02/2011
Manager
Charley,
Thank you for the notes on the home, we took your review and went straight to inspect what was written in your review. A defrosting of the freezer was planned for that unit but due to your walk in it was postponed until after your stay, the door was still attached and we were unable to detect wiggling or a sign or it falling off the hinges. Housekeeping completed a thorough inspection of all the carpets and rugs but weren’t able to find any stains and our maintenance department will be working with the owner to address the regular wear and tear items of the scuffs on the paint and woodwork.
Thank you again for your input
Sincerely,
Black Butte Ranch Management

The rooms were okay although it would have been nice to have even a small table or luggage rack to put our luggage on so we didn't have to use the floor. The view from the patio was very nice. We will probably stay at this resort again, just not these rooms. The other couple with us stayed in the room pictured, we stayed in the room in the back. Both rooms were fairly clean.

We stayed at Black Butte (Lr043) to attend a wedding. It was a perfect location for the event and also the swimming pool being so close. My grandson was in heaven. Our view was spectacular. An added surprise at having a few bikes there. We would probably come back to the same unit. Didn't have to get in the car one time.. Loved that part.:)

Thank you for the excellent customer service. I was called a few days before our visit and informed that the room we had booked had an electrical problem when the microwave was on. Your staff moved us to this 2 bedroom unit instead. Thank you so much!

We stayed at the ranch for a friend's wedding. The rooms were great! Clean, quiet, and cozy. We shared a two room suite/condo with friends who brought their 1 year old. We never heard a peep from that room--so quiet!
The wedding staff compensated excellently for the bad weather making sure everyone was warm and dry and fed! The food was amazing!
We had a great time! -

This experience was not what i expected it to me. We did arrive when the weather was still cold (50's) which made some activities limited. The room we stayed in was extremely dated and overpriced for a very sub par room. The pool and fitness center was average at best and the access card they gave us malfunctioned. The best part of the trip was the restaurant. The food was fantastic. It was on the pricey side but worth it.

Good times despite the cooler weather and 3 inches of snow we received. We really enjoyed the spa and fitness center and the room was very comfortable. Nice fireplace in the master bed room with plenty of privacy from the kids in the other bedroom. Very nice accomodations.
