Annandale, VirginiaA Perfect Cottage in the Middle of Paradise"
Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in February 2013
I am a tad late writing this review, apologies. We are an american couple who traveled with another couple to New Zealand for a month long holiday traveling from the North Island to the South Island this past February and as such we stayed at numerous places. By far Eliza's Garden Cottage was the most memorable. We stayed three nights, I wish we could have stayed longer. Great location just a few kilometers from the Blenheim city center. The inside of the cottage is exquisitely done and makes you feel right at home. Everything was so clean, and the scenery is beyond words. My wife is still talking about the wonderful night sky. I am still dreaming of the vineyards. The extra that made our stay even more memorable is the owner Wendy. When we arrived she had left for us more than a dozen fresh farm eggs, at least a kilo of bacon, and a basket full of fresh veggies. And did I mention the bread Wendy baked for us everyday? Simply wonderful. Besides leaving us such a treat she is a wonderful host. When (not if) we come back Eliza's will be a place we will stay.

Returning to NZ wine country
Fripp Island, SCA peaceful retreat in the heart of New Zealand's wine country
Left on 03/10/2013 for a stay in January 2013
While we have lived in New Zealand previously for 12 years and had been to Blenheim previously it was great working with Wendy from the start. She new that we were bringing a young couple with us to show them the wineries and as we got closer to the date she emailed me directions and things to see before coming to Blenheim.
Wendy is an "earth" mother. She prepared fresh bread and home made jams and yogurts daily. She even brought us the local paper. Upon arrival she gave us a bottle of Sav Blanc made from the grapes in her vineyard.
The Cottage is in a vineyard in the heart of wine country with easy access to all wineries and the town.
It was a great experience as we "treated" our son and daughter in law to the exerience of a lifetime that they will never forget.
Great job Wendy,

Can't rate this place highly enough- very tastefully decorated and well outfitted with everything to make for a very comfortable stay.
Setting is peaceful and outlook over the vines just beautiful.
All the little extras Wendy provides- daily newspaper, gourmet provisions for breakfast, home grown produce just adds to the wonderful experience of staying here. We will be back!Response from Wendy Palmer - 03/11/2013

Thank you for this Di. It was lovely having you both at Eliza's - and I just so enjoyed the way you explored the district but also indulged in some r and r at Eliza's and especial thanks to Al for helping me sort out those pesky technical problems.......... I hope you do come back. W

Left on 03/09/2013 for a stay in February 2013
On arrival at Eliza's cottage we were greeted with a warm welcome note and a fridge full of goodies including a nice bottle of wine. We stayed for 3 nights and each day our host presented us with a lovely home-made loaf of bread - delicious. The cottage is tastefully decorated and situated in a beautiful garden that even has a swimming pool. Located fairly central to the Maryborough Sounds area. Our host was very helpful and furnished all our needs. We would certainly have no hesitation to stay again at Eliza's cottage on a return visit to the South Island of New Zealand.

We spent a too short 2 nights here recently with a group of friends. The location is very quiet & peaceful with large grounds to walk in & plenty of wild life to see , swings to sit on under the tree & loungers to relax on.
The pool is a welcome addition & would be great with kids.
The owner Wendy is a delight to talk too & has got the cottage set up with everything you need. The linen is top quality & the beds are extremely comfortable . Plenty of places to sit & a good sized TV . The breakfast provided is plentiful & delicious - home preserved plums, yummy yoghurt , fresh daily bread ( & newspaper ! ) & great conserves plus fresh fruit , a bottle of wine , fresh flowers & chocolates - what more could you ask for !!Response from Wendy Palmer - 02/02/2013

A wonderful few days here with our 3 young children who just loved the huge garden, swing, sports equipment and even got into the pool mid October. Wendy was the greatest host with wonderful home baked breads, and breakfasts every morning. Would loved to have spent more nights here than the wonderful 2 that we managed.

Wellington, New ZealandGreat holiday home in the heart of Marlborough wine country
Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed here for two nights and wished we had booked for longer. From booking (when Wendy gave us a call to discuss the property rather than just email back) through to confirming payment had been received, to a friendly "hello" as we passed her on the way to the property, and throughout the stay - we felt we were very welcome at Eliza's Garden Cottage. Our two kids enjoyed having a bedroom each, and the outdoor games in the shed were well used by them (at least when the weather was fine). The breakfast supplies were wonderful (loved the muesli and Greek yoghurt, yummy preserves, and the bacon was delicious), but it was the special touches that made the difference: fresh baked bread every day, a handwritten welcome note from Wendy, the fire all set and ready to go, and dropping the paper off in the morning. And the cottage was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, with all the facilities we could ask for. Also a great location, only 5 minutes from town and close to many of the wineries and other attractions in the area. The whole family had a great time, and I'm sure we'll be back next time we stay in Blenheim.

We can't speak highly enough of Eliza's. Wendy is an absolute charming host, the breakfast provisions are absolutely first class and you can't help but relax. We had a great time at Eliza's Cottage. The breakfast supplies was great and having the fresh bread delivered everyday was a real treat. A really wonderful and homely place. Awesome views overlooking the gardens and vineyard and great mountain views as well. I want to go back in summertime so that I can try the many different fruit trees that they have.

Christchurch New ZealandA truly relaxing break
Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Our stay at Elizas was more relaxing than any other break away we have had over the last 10 years. It was quiet, spacious, clean and tidy. Wendy delivered on every level and went above and beyond with her personal touches, her level of passion and commitment to our enjoyment evident from the moment we walked in the house. The location was perfect for where we needed to be and with a 15wk old baby who had a double ear infection, perfect with no neighbours to bother (only the sheep!) Our Son learnt to ride his two wheeler on the lawn and even got so bold as to try the quiet road. We can't think of one improvement as it was perfect and we can't wait to go back. We are even thinking of getting a bed just like the master bedroom it was unreal how comfortable it was!!

Eliza's Garden Cottage was simply the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in the South Island!! The ease of booking was great & communication was excellent. The gourmet breakfast and fresh bread were superb!! The fresh flowers and candles were very special touches by Wendy our Host. The queen bed was so comfortable and warm especially in the middle of Winter. The Open Fire was very welcome for warmth during a wet/cold few days. The location and setting of Eliza's was fantastic, situated right next to the Vineyard with lovely views.

Just book this. You need to go.
The place is stylishly and beautifully decorated. It has everything you need. The breakfast was some of the most gorgeous stewed fruits and most delicious bread I've ever eaten. I'd go back for those alone.
The vineyard setting is sublime. Cute lambs bleeting in the distance. The grounds and fruit trees are just beautiful.
This is a place that replenishes your soul and you don't want to leave.
The owners have thought of everything. They even made a cake for my sister and her husbands wedding anniversary (happened while we were there). So thoughtful and delicious.
The house has a real sense of history with beautiful handwritten documents from when the farm was developing. It also has the mod cons and is extremely comfortable.
The location is slightly out of town, which is why it is so relaxing.
Love love loved this place. -

The house was presented beautifully inside, with a fire already lit to welcome us. The portacot was made up and soft toys placed on the children's beds. The fridge and fruit bowl were full with lovely local produce. Toys had been provided for our preschoolers and the back section was huge and great for running around on.
The house was decorated with beautiful taste and it was lovely to be in. Everything was great. -

Our family, including grandchildren, felt very much at home. The personal touches of equipment for small children, as well as games for older ones, a wonderfully stocked frig, fresh home-baked bread, wood ready for the fire, but a heat-pump as well, plenty of towels for the pool, and Wendy's immediate response to any queries, made them very special holidays. We have been twice and will come again. Blenheim is only 5 minutes away, but the large tree-edged lawn and surrounding vines give a lovely outlook & privacy.

We stayed at this cottage with our friends for a couple of days before moving on to China. We must say that from the minute we walked in we all just felt so at home. The cottage has just about every amenity you could wish for and it was just so clean and fresh. Wendy popped in to make sure that we had every thing we needed and brought along a goodie bag which included homemade bread, jam, honey, granola, fresh bacon, eggs and a welcoming bottle of wine.
There were 3 bedrooms (two double and the other with twin beds), bathroom with separate toilet. Open plan kitchen, dinning room and lounge. Again the linen was beautiful, fresh and clean. The gardens were stunning and we saw sheep, quails and hares running around the vineyards at the back. There was a swimming pool and decking. Outside table, chairs and bbq. It was just all so peaceful.
Fresh flowers were scattered about the cottage. We really just felt so at home. There were logs ready for the open fire.
There was a visitors book and looking at past comments we could see that Wendy had taken note of peoples comments and acted accordingly! (Night light in hallway etc).
If you are thinking about visiting this cottage - please do so. I can not recommend it enough. -

Stayed here last month with friends to explore the area for the first time. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we had made the right choice! Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations... from the welcome bottle of wine, the breakfast provisions provided, the comfortable beds, the quality linens and of course the warm and friendly hospitality of Wendy. The well-equipped kitchen enabled us to self-cater every night and we particularly enjoyed picking fresh herbs from the garden. The views from the spacious, comfortable living areas were nothing short of spectacular.
The cottage is well situated down a quiet no through road, yet just minutes into town and the abundance of restaurants/vineyards in the area. Wendy's local knowledge and recommendations were invaluable.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. -

Its hard to recall a more carefully thought out holiday accommodation. Every detail had been anticipated. From the peerless muesli and homemade yogurt to the farm free range eggs and plum jam from trees nearby it really was a five star experience.
Every window offered sublime views: the vines vigorously growing, the plump roses barely able to hold their weight, and the fabulous long lawn perfect for croquet or kids playing.
The pool also was completely refreashing and once again total privacy. Not a soul in sight. Now that is priceless!! -

The house is lovely and comfortable - with superb beds; I had the best sleep ever.

We spent 6 days at Eliza's Cottage when in New Zealand for the World Cup. What a delightful and tranquil place Eliza's garden Cottage is. Whether wandering round the large cottage garden or sitting on the decking enjoying the sunshine and watching the sheep in the vineyard or watching the sun set over the hills, Eliza provides a steady stream of delights. The house itself is so comfortable and extremely well stocked with everything you could possibly need. The food provisons eg granola, yoghurt, plums and fresh bread are just what you need to set you up for the day. Ideally situated for exploring the local area and vineyards, Eliza's Cottage is the perfect base in the Blenheim/ Marlborough area. And just to ensure your stay lacks nothing, Wendy Palmer the owner is always near at hand to help and make your stay just perfect. Eliza is a little gem.
