What Past Guests Are Saying
A Perfect Cottage in the Middle of Paradise"
I am a tad late writing this review, apologies. We are an american couple who traveled with another couple to New Zealand for a month long holiday traveling from the North Island to the South Island this past February and as such we stayed at numerous places. By far Eliza's Garden Cottage was the most memorable. We stayed three nights, I wish we could have stayed longer. Great location just a few kilometers from the Blenheim city center. The inside of the cottage is exquisitely done and makes you feel right at home. Everything was so clean, and the scenery is beyond words. My wife is still talking about the wonderful night sky. I am still dreaming of the vineyards. The extra that made our stay even more memorable is the owner Wendy. When we arrived she had left for us more than a dozen fresh farm eggs, at least a kilo of bacon, and a basket full of fresh veggies. And did I mention the bread Wendy baked for us everyday? Simply wonderful. Besides leaving us such a treat she is a wonderful host. When (not if) we come back Eliza's will be a place we will stay.
Wellington and London
A group of friends and myself stayed at Wendy's guest house over a long weekend and it was fabulous! Perfect location and place to stay in the area and Wendy was a fantastic host, fresh bread and papers every morning were a lovely touch! Would totally recommend to all! Renee

A peaceful retreat in the heart of New Zealand's wine country
While we have lived in New Zealand previously for 12 years and had been to Blenheim previously it was great working with Wendy from the start. She new that we were bringing a young couple with us to show them the wineries and as we got closer to the date she emailed me directions and things to see before coming to Blenheim.
Wendy is an "earth" mother. She prepared fresh bread and home made jams and yogurts daily. She even brought us the local paper. Upon arrival she gave us a bottle of Sav Blanc made from the grapes in her vineyard.
The Cottage is in a vineyard in the heart of wine country with easy access to all wineries and the town.
It was a great experience as we "treated" our son and daughter in law to the exerience of a lifetime that they will never forget.
Great job Wendy,
Exceeded all expectations!
Can't rate this place highly enough- very tastefully decorated and well outfitted with everything to make for a very comfortable stay.
Setting is peaceful and outlook over the vines just beautiful.
All the little extras Wendy provides- daily newspaper, gourmet provisions for breakfast, home grown produce just adds to the wonderful experience of staying here. We will be back!

Thank you for this Di. It was lovely having you both at Eliza's - and I just so enjoyed the way you explored the district but also indulged in some r and r at Eliza's and especial thanks to Al for helping me sort out those pesky technical problems.......... I hope you do come back. W

On arrival at Eliza's cottage we were greeted with a warm welcome note and a fridge full of goodies including a nice bottle of wine. We stayed for 3 nights and each day our host presented us with a lovely home-made loaf of bread - delicious. The cottage is tastefully decorated and situated in a beautiful garden that even has a swimming pool. Located fairly central to the Maryborough Sounds area. Our host was very helpful and furnished all our needs. We would certainly have no hesitation to stay again at Eliza's cottage on a return visit to the South Island of New Zealand.

Thank you for this Pat - it was lovely meeting you all; your delightfully funny husband Les and your charming friends Anne and Simon. Very glad we eventually found Simon's address book and hopefully it is safely back in England. I do hope you will all come back some day. Best wishes Wendy
We spent a too short 2 nights here recently with a group of friends. The location is very quiet & peaceful with large grounds to walk in & plenty of wild life to see , swings to sit on under the tree & loungers to relax on.
The pool is a welcome addition & would be great with kids.
The owner Wendy is a delight to talk too & has got the cottage set up with everything you need. The linen is top quality & the beds are extremely comfortable . Plenty of places to sit & a good sized TV . The breakfast provided is plentiful & delicious - home preserved plums, yummy yoghurt , fresh daily bread ( & newspaper ! ) & great conserves plus fresh fruit , a bottle of wine , fresh flowers & chocolates - what more could you ask for !!

so good is Eliza's, that we are returning for our second 10 day+ stay in a couple of weeks. Superb setting, wonderful hostess and very relaxing. We can highly commend Eliza's cottage for anyone seeking a relaxing break. Everything you need is at Eliza's including home cooked delights from Wendy. Just excellent.
Response from Wendy Palmer - 02/08/2013
Dear Mr Mal, Thank you very much for your very kind comments. We very much hope to welcome you back sometime as twice you have been the most perfect guests! Do please come again. With my fondest wishes Wendy.
A wonderful few days here with our 3 young children who just loved the huge garden, swing, sports equipment and even got into the pool mid October. Wendy was the greatest host with wonderful home baked breads, and breakfasts every morning. Would loved to have spent more nights here than the wonderful 2 that we managed.
Response from Wendy Palmer - 12/03/2012
Thank you Roger - we really enjoyed having you here and enjoyed your enjoyment if you know what I mean...... I was amazed at how beautifully you left everything especially with those lovely wee kids to pack up. Thank you for coming and I hope to see you and your whanau back here someday..... W xxxx

Great holiday home in the heart of Marlborough wine country
We stayed here for two nights and wished we had booked for longer. From booking (when Wendy gave us a call to discuss the property rather than just email back) through to confirming payment had been received, to a friendly "hello" as we passed her on the way to the property, and throughout the stay - we felt we were very welcome at Eliza's Garden Cottage. Our two kids enjoyed having a bedroom each, and the outdoor games in the shed were well used by them (at least when the weather was fine). The breakfast supplies were wonderful (loved the muesli and Greek yoghurt, yummy preserves, and the bacon was delicious), but it was the special touches that made the difference: fresh baked bread every day, a handwritten welcome note from Wendy, the fire all set and ready to go, and dropping the paper off in the morning. And the cottage was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated, with all the facilities we could ask for. Also a great location, only 5 minutes from town and close to many of the wineries and other attractions in the area. The whole family had a great time, and I'm sure we'll be back next time we stay in Blenheim.

Thank you for this review David - you were lovely guests and left everything perfectly. We hope we do see you again!

The most relaxing holiday ever!
We can't speak highly enough of Eliza's. Wendy is an absolute charming host, the breakfast provisions are absolutely first class and you can't help but relax. The masted bed was an absolute treat and provided such an amazing night's sleep after wine tasting through the day. We would love to come back in summer!
Response from Wendy Palmer - 12/03/2012
A belated thank you W and G for being such lovely guests and leaving the best pavlova cook book which is now a treasured part of Eliza's library. W xxxxx
If you are thinking of booking a holiday home in Marlborough then do yourself a favour and stop right here. From the beautifully presented house, to the immaculately kept garden and view over the vineyards to the warm and generous welcome from the proprietor herself, everything about this place is perfect. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
Response from Wendy Palmer - 12/03/2012
I so remember your stay with the utmost pleasure - the lamb feeding - they are weaned now - phew. Wondering how the rest of your travels are going and where your adventurous travels have taken you. Please come again someday........
We had a great time at Eliza's Cottage. The breakfast supplies was great and having the fresh bread delivered everyday was a real treat. A really wonderful and homely place. Awesome views overlooking the gardens and vineyard and great mountain views as well. I want to go back in summertime so that I can try the many different fruit trees that they have.
Response from Wendy Palmer - 12/03/2012
A belated response - because I'm technologically challenged and have only just worked out how to do this - but you were lovely guests and left everything immaculatey in my fantasy space. I hope you will come back someday.......... W xxxx

A truly relaxing break
Our stay at Elizas was more relaxing than any other break away we have had over the last 10 years. It was quiet, spacious, clean and tidy. Wendy delivered on every level and went above and beyond with her personal touches, her level of passion and commitment to our enjoyment evident from the moment we walked in the house. The location was perfect for where we needed to be and with a 15wk old baby who had a double ear infection, perfect with no neighbours to bother (only the sheep!) Our Son learnt to ride his two wheeler on the lawn and even got so bold as to try the quiet road. We can't think of one improvement as it was perfect and we can't wait to go back. We are even thinking of getting a bed just like the master bedroom it was unreal how comfortable it was!!
Response from Wendy Palmer - 12/03/2012
A very late response but I'm slow in working out all these technical things - you were the most understanding guests (!!!!) and I do truly hope we will see you again. W xxxxx

Totally awesome stay at Eliza's Garden Cottage!!
Eliza's Garden Cottage was simply the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in the South Island!! The ease of booking was great & communication was excellent. The gourmet breakfast and fresh bread were superb!! The fresh flowers and candles were very special touches by Wendy our Host. The queen bed was so comfortable and warm especially in the middle of Winter. The Open Fire was very welcome for warmth during a wet/cold few days. The location and setting of Eliza's was fantastic, situated right next to the Vineyard with lovely views.
Fabulous. Gorgeous setting, beautiful interior, sumptuous food.
Just book this. You need to go.
The place is stylishly and beautifully decorated. It has everything you need. The breakfast was some of the most gorgeous stewed fruits and most delicious bread I've ever eaten. I'd go back for those alone.
The vineyard setting is sublime. Cute lambs bleeting in the distance. The grounds and fruit trees are just beautiful.
This is a place that replenishes your soul and you don't want to leave.
The owners have thought of everything. They even made a cake for my sister and her husbands wedding anniversary (happened while we were there). So thoughtful and delicious.
The house has a real sense of history with beautiful handwritten documents from when the farm was developing. It also has the mod cons and is extremely comfortable.
The location is slightly out of town, which is why it is so relaxing.
Love love loved this place.

Perfect for a Girls Weekend
Eliza cottage - where to start... with the lovely setting, the peaceful gardens, the quaint cottage - beautifully appointed, the gorgeous basket of breakfast goodies, the chocolates on the pillow or just the feeling of staying at a friends house.
It was perfect for us and Wendy, you were a wonderful hostess.
Response from Wendy Palmer - 07/08/2012
Thank you Jennifer - I really do love people having the best time I can make it at Eliza's - be it a week or a night and your comment makes it very worth while...........
Everything we could want!
The house was presented beautifully inside, with a fire already lit to welcome us. The portacot was made up and soft toys placed on the children's beds. The fridge and fruit bowl were full with lovely local produce. Toys had been provided for our preschoolers and the back section was huge and great for running around on.
The house was decorated with beautiful taste and it was lovely to be in. Everything was great.
We relaxed in lovely rural surroundings where every need was tho
Our family, including grandchildren, felt very much at home. The personal touches of equipment for small children, as well as games for older ones, a wonderfully stocked frig, fresh home-baked bread, wood ready for the fire, but a heat-pump as well, plenty of towels for the pool, and Wendy's immediate response to any queries, made them very special holidays. We have been twice and will come again. Blenheim is only 5 minutes away, but the large tree-edged lawn and surrounding vines give a lovely outlook & privacy.
Sweet Home from Home
We stayed at this cottage with our friends for a couple of days before moving on to China. We must say that from the minute we walked in we all just felt so at home. The cottage has just about every amenity you could wish for and it was just so clean and fresh. Wendy popped in to make sure that we had every thing we needed and brought along a goodie bag which included homemade bread, jam, honey, granola, fresh bacon, eggs and a welcoming bottle of wine.
There were 3 bedrooms (two double and the other with twin beds), bathroom with separate toilet. Open plan kitchen, dinning room and lounge. Again the linen was beautiful, fresh and clean. The gardens were stunning and we saw sheep, quails and hares running around the vineyards at the back. There was a swimming pool and decking. Outside table, chairs and bbq. It was just all so peaceful.
Fresh flowers were scattered about the cottage. We really just felt so at home. There were logs ready for the open fire.
There was a visitors book and looking at past comments we could see that Wendy had taken note of peoples comments and acted accordingly! (Night light in hallway etc).
If you are thinking about visiting this cottage - please do so. I can not recommend it enough.

Homely and relaxing... three days wasn't long enough!
Stayed here last month with friends to explore the area for the first time. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we had made the right choice! Everything was perfect and exceeded our expectations... from the welcome bottle of wine, the breakfast provisions provided, the comfortable beds, the quality linens and of course the warm and friendly hospitality of Wendy. The well-equipped kitchen enabled us to self-cater every night and we particularly enjoyed picking fresh herbs from the garden. The views from the spacious, comfortable living areas were nothing short of spectacular.
The cottage is well situated down a quiet no through road, yet just minutes into town and the abundance of restaurants/vineyards in the area. Wendy's local knowledge and recommendations were invaluable.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Beautiful ,fantastic and so sad to leave.
The best Holiday cottage ever nothing to dislike whatsoever. The cottages is impeccable you feel at home within minutes and is so comfortable is hard to leave, the decor and furnishings adorable, bedding, linen equivalent to a 5 star Hotel. That fantastic homemade bread, preserves, honey, fresh bacon, eggs and garden produce not forgetting an exceptional quality wine.
Location views are stunning. The cottage is totally unspoilt not overlooked and peaceful.
Wendy we look forward to many a future breaks with you at Eliza's Garden Cottage and sincerly thankyou for your hospitallity and tour around the vineyard.
Totally relaxing, warm, clean, charming and delicious :)
Beautiful country cottage tucked away. Loved the location, loved the cottage, loved the garden, loved the beds, loved the homemade supplies, loved everything - didn't love leaving.
The expansive grounds were scenic and colourful with roses still in bloom. We were truly able to relax and unwind with the peace and quiet. Wendy was simply magic with her delivery of fresh goodies both on arrival and during our stay. The kids are most grateful as they hit the jackpot and found her collection of toys. The location is just far enough away from the city yet still conveniently close. The house itself was beautifully presented with stylish furnishings and luxurious bedding.
Little Somerford, UK
Everything was wonderful from the home made bread and yoghurt to the cleanliness of the cottage, to the luxurious space of the cottage and the extraordinary views of the vineyard and mountains. The area is full of excellent restaurants and great wine. There is nothing more that one could ask!
Blissful weekend amongst the vines and gardens in total privacy
Its hard to recall a more carefully thought out holiday accommodation. Every detail had been anticipated. From the peerless muesli and homemade yogurt to the farm free range eggs and plum jam from trees nearby it really was a five star experience.
Every window offered sublime views: the vines vigorously growing, the plump roses barely able to hold their weight, and the fabulous long lawn perfect for croquet or kids playing.
The pool also was completely refreashing and once again total privacy. Not a soul in sight. Now that is priceless!!
Wonderful hospitality in sublime location
Thank you Wendy for a delightful stay in your lovely house. The location is stunning, right amongst the vines, and that enormous garden - after Wellington it's such a treat to have so much flat space!
The house is lovely and comfortable - with superb beds; I had the best sleep ever.
And your muesli and bread was delicious! I will have to come back for a cooking weekend, and take advantage of all that kitchen equipment you have. And fresh produce in the garden, yum...
Thanks again - and see you soon.
Great views from the world's most comfortable bed!
Eliza's is beautifully appointed, with wonderful views from every single window. Host Wendy Palmer has thought of everything that the guests might need and provided it. She even delivers freshly baked bread each day, along with home made jams and delicious granola! The house is well laid out for a group, with a great lounge, deck facing the mountains and a small pool. The garden is magnificent. But the thing I really loved was that the bed I slept in was just splendid - so -comfortable. I'll be back!
Beuatiful, homely, clean home
Beautiful, quiet setting with everything you need for a great stay in Blenheim
Eliza's Cottage is the best place for r & r. great location from Blenheim & close to vineyards, township or Picton. It has an incredible atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door, home away from home, you just know you're going to have a relaxing time. Wendy certainly spoils you with her homemade breads, yoghurt, preserved fruit, muesli and so on and is very generous with her supplies. The cottage is very clean, tidy & comfortable we loved lighting the fire to relax in front of. We would love to stay in the summer months to enjoy the pool and outdoor area more. It is a truly wonderful escape and we have rebooked for a 3rd visit in 1 year already!
5 Star stay in Marlborough wine country
Eliza's cottage was a wonderfully appointed holiday home. The house was finished to a very high standard with obvious attention detail and had all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The excellence of the accomdation could only be surpassed by the friendliness and service provided by our host Wendy. She could not have been more helpful and went above and beyond our expectations with her homemade snacks and delicacies, the baked pears were a definite favorite! The only downside for us was that we couldn't have stayed longer.
Wonderful! Excellent hostess, beautiful setting and home.
So convenient having portacot and high chair for baby, Thank you. Such a personal touch, each child had toys to play with. The breakfast was very special and we felt spoilt. Lovely place for children with garden and pool.
A perfect haven
We spent 6 days at Eliza's Cottage when in New Zealand for the World Cup. What a delightful and tranquil place Eliza's garden Cottage is. Whether wandering round the large cottage garden or sitting on the decking enjoying the sunshine and watching the sheep in the vineyard or watching the sun set over the hills, Eliza provides a steady stream of delights. The house itself is so comfortable and extremely well stocked with everything you could possibly need. The food provisons eg granola, yoghurt, plums and fresh bread are just what you need to set you up for the day. Ideally situated for exploring the local area and vineyards, Eliza's Cottage is the perfect base in the Blenheim/ Marlborough area. And just to ensure your stay lacks nothing, Wendy Palmer the owner is always near at hand to help and make your stay just perfect. Eliza is a little gem.
