Description from the owner
Sit on the porch drinking your tea, coffee, or perhaps a wine or two watching the ships and fishing boats sail by just a few metres below you. Begin your day by watching the sun rise out of the ocean directly in front of you. A great place to kick off your trip to Stewart Island or to just relax for a short time on your holiday.
The Bungalow is a comfortable 3 bedroom home, with a stunning view over the town and harbour in Bluff. This home is warm and collects the sun most of the day. Heat is supplied by a gas heater in the lounge providing instant heat or a wood burning stove in the living room which also has a wet back giving ex...Read more

HamiltonComfortable, plenty of room for everyone - including teenagers!
Left on 02/06/2012 for a stay in January 2012
As a couple, we have stayed here before and enjoyed the bungalow very much. So when our daughter and her husband and teenage son came to visit in December, taking them for a night in Bluff was very attractive. They enjoyed it so much that we took two of our other grandchildren (aged 11 and 9) in January. Sue and Mac have provided a range of videos, books and games that appealed to the 3 age levels, so even if the weather is bad, everyone is occupied. The bungalow has a front porch, lounge room, a sitting room off the main bedroom, and a sitting area in the dining room - so plenty of space for us all to do our thing or to be together. Heating is via a wood fire and a gas fire, plus electric heaters are also available. The owners provide internet access via a mobile connection. There are two accesses - one up about 10 steps to the front door, accessed from the driveway, the other from the road along a level path to the back door. Views from the house out to the harbour are awesome. It's a good 10 min walk to Bluff township. About the same in the opposite direction to where the SH1 begins at Stirling Point. Lovely restaurant there called the Drunken Sailor - even better sea views - sometimes you can see the Stewart Island Ferry come in. We've walked around Bluff Hill. There is a resident sea lion on the beach - sad to say he was not home on these two visits, but we have seen him in the past. So for a couple, or large family, the bungalow is suitable and comfortable.

Baltimore, Maryland, United StatesRelaxing at the beginning of the world!
Left on 01/15/2012 for a stay in November 2011
Very comfortable bungalow with all the amenities. We were there in the spring. The weather was cool but we were cozy with a gas fireplace in the living room and a wood stove in the dining room/kitchen that also served to super-heat the hot water. The electric blankets on every bed made for great sleeping. A short walk to Bluff galleries, food and a liquor store with a fine selection of wines. If hiking is your thing, there are well-maintained trails close by that offer great views and the sounds of Keas and other southland birds. A short walk to the ferry makes the bungalow in Bluff a great jumping off point for Stewart Island and Rakiura National Park. All in all, a great place to relax, recharge, and experience Kiwi ambiance.
