CloverdaleIn a word, "Spectacular"
Left on 04/14/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We just returned from a fabulous two week stay at the blissful Coconuts by the Sea in Boca de Iguanas, Mexico. The “Coconuts” property offers four guest suites in a single structure situated on a rocky bluff that overlooks Tenacatita Bay and its three mile crescent of white sand beach, which terminates at the small, but lively, fishing village of La Manzanilla.
In a word, Coconuts by the Sea is “spectacular.” Each suite offers private outdoor space with beautiful views overlooking the bay. The guest suites are artistically painted with a note of whimsy, and are clean, comfortable and well-appointed. The staff is friendly and helpful; a housekeeper visited our suite several times during our two week visit. Our hosts, Bob and Cissie Jones, were gracious and informative, both before and during our trip.
My husband and I stayed in a downstairs suite that boasts a full kitchen (including stove, refrigerator, blender, toaster and coffee maker, but no microwave), and pretty much anything we needed to prepare and serve simple meals. The kitchen area is furnished with a dining table and a twin bed that also serves as a sofa. From the kitchen you walk into a spacious bedroom that offers a comfortable king bed (where the sounds of the sea will lull you to sleep), walk in shower, sink/vanity and water closet (toilet). Sliding glass doors lead to the furnished patio. From the upstairs suite occupied by my brother and his wife, with its wrap around patio and fully appointed outdoor kitchen, we all enjoyed the breathtaking views, whale watching and bird sightings from a higher perspective.
Besides direct access to the beach, the property also offers a swimming pool and lounge chairs, which sit among the coconut trees on a terraced outcrop just below the guest suites. Suffice to say, all areas of the property, including the pool, offer views, views, views.
The beach is about a two minute walk down a paved path. Though a bit on the steep side, the path is an easy walk down and provides only a mild workout on the return trip. At the beach you can enjoy playing in the surf or taking a gentle three mile stroll to La Manzanilla. There you will find many restaurants, small shops and places to rent bikes, kayaks or sign up for various eco-tours.
Just a short drive away, there are two other seaside villages well worth visiting: Melaque and Barra de Navidad. Both are a bit larger than La Manzanilla and offer plenty of opportunities for recreation, relaxation, shopping and dining. For a bigger city experience, you can drive about an hour and a half south to the port town of Manzanillo where you will find, along with all the charms it no doubt has to offer, a Walmart superstore and other large grocery outlets.
In short, if you are looking for a place to experience the real Mexico, away from crowds, crime and tourist traps, consider visiting the La Manzanilla area … and do yourself a favor by staying at Coconuts by the Sea. -

WE have stayed at this location six times. When we want to truly impress our friends and family, (we live in Mexico) we include a stay at Coconuts.
The location is stunning with a million dollar view. Each bedroom has a king bed with lighting for reading and has a satellite TV. Each room has a small outside sitting area looking down over the beautiful beach below. Until last October, there had never been a problem with hot water for the shower so we hope that has been fixed. The kitchenette is well equipped and handy for small meals.
We have traveled extensively around the world but have never found s place quite like this little piece of heaven. -

I can’t think of a more relaxing and exclusive place to stay. The accommodations are perfect. Everything you need is there. The pool has one of the most breathtaking views of any beach I’ve ever been to. Three uninterrupted miles of beach span from Coconuts by the Sea to La Manzanilla. If you don’t feel like cooking in your lovely guest suite you can walk to La Manzanilla or drive. Barra De Navidad is also nearby for more restaurant choices. Boat tours, scuba, sea fishing, golf and more are less than an hour away.
The owners of Coconuts by the Sea, Bob and Cissie offer friendly personalized attention to their guests. If you have questions or need anything they are more than happy to help you. For a completely stress free and unique get away this is a top choice on this seasoned traveller’s list.
