Santa RosaOur Favorite Bodega Harbour Home
Left on 11/22/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We have stayed at Southern Exposure once or twice a year since the 1980s and have seen huge changes to the home. We loved it from the first day up to and including our last visit in November of this year. We appreciate all the kitchen and bath remodeling with a few exceptions. Our experience since the remodeling of the kitchen is that a lot of the electrical outlets don't work. It seems to change with each stay. The kitchen is very well stocked, altho it seems as though things keep disappearing! The views are incomparable, of course. Hopefully the "bad" windows will be replaced soon. Two things we really do not care for are, not being able to use the garage. It is currently filled with replaced furniture. The time before we had to shift a lot of stuff to get the car in the garage. The other is the terrible waste of water trying to warm it for the kitchen several times a day. We solved this problem at our home by having a circulation pump put on top of the hot water heater. In comparison to other homes we have rented over the years (some which were quite frankly awful), Southern is still a great comfortable home.

A Great Retreat Weekend in A Beautiful Home
Citrus Heights, CA.40 year college retreat in beautiful Southern Exposure
Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We are a group of four ladies that connected at San Jose State College 40 years ago. Our stay was beautiful. The house was spacious with a great open floor plan. The applicances and features were top of the line, all the amentities we're accustomed to. Everything was clean and convenient. Regretfully, the weather did not permit a much desired trip to the beach. This was actually my third beach house stay over the past three years. In September 2008 under the name of my friend, Kathi Starks we stayed at another fabulous Beach house. As we are required book early it's difficult to predict the weather. We are considering visiting a different annual location that has a better climate. But "leave a light on for us" we'll be back. Thank you.

Honest Traveler
San RamonExcellent stay at Southern Exposure
Left on 06/24/2011 for a stay in June 2011
The house was truly stunning. Most homes in the area are built in the 60s-70s, but this home has been upgraded to the point that it feels absolutely brand new. Gorgeous views of the bay, beautiful and comfy sunroom, gigantic kitchen with every single appliance, dish, knife, glass you can possibly think of.
I was impressed with the extensive library of books, games, VCR tapes, Dvds and BluRay discs. They even had some toys for the little ones. To be honest, I didn't even want to leave the house and explore. I feel that my family and I would have been entertained for weeks. I'd like to say a special thank you to the owners for the magnificent library. What wonderful books! I wish I could stay longer just to read them all! (And I'm not even that much of a reader :-)
I know the house is listed as a 2 bedroom, but it feels almost like a 3, because the downstairs den is really like a bedroom, it just has curtains instead of a door. The hot tub is probably big enough for 10. It's huge!
I read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor that mentioned that the lighting is too dim. I absolutely disagree. They have the latest and greatest dimming light switches installed throughout the house that you can set to various levels. I felt this was a great addition and no, I did not feel that it's too dark to put on my makeup.
I also want to say a special thank you to Bodega Bay & Beyond for hiring a decent cleaning crew that doesn't cut corners. The house was spotless! You could literally eat off the floor. I've rented houses before, but this time I really felt comfortable walking around in white socks even in the sunroom with brick floors! Even the floors were shiny!
The only small issue we had were the ant traps in some of the areas. The house seemed to have a small ant problem. I wish we were forewarned when we came in. We had a baby with us that likes to crawl around and explore and could have put a trap in the mouth. Good thing we noticed them in time. -

Woodland, CAGreat in the Daylight -- Difficult at night
Left on 03/14/2011 for a stay in March 2011
This was a great house, with good beds, fabulous views, excellent applicances, and overall a very good choice. However, the lighting after the sun had gone down was abysmal. We will definitely rent this home again, but we will bring our own brighter light bults, and probably a couple more lamps of our own to use while there! Also, it would be nice to be able to turn the hot tub off, in order to not waste electriticy --we have a hot tub at home, and the water stays nice and warm between uses without having to keep it at 98 degrees 24/7 ... a waste of precious resources in our view. Also, the seating in the sun porch is very uncomfortable -- two hard wooden glider chairs, one flimsy deck chair, and a poorly designed futon love seat -- the porch had the best light in the house, but it was painful to sit there to try to read or visit with each other. A small investment in more comfortable seating there would make a huge difference.

We shared your review with the owners of Southern Exposure, and they are working to address your concerns. They have added more lighting, and are in the process of adding more seating to the home. We do have to keep the hot tub at a high enough temperature to ensure that it is safe for our guests' use.

Sunnyvale, CARelaxing, Quiet, Beautiful View
Left on 02/25/2011 for a stay in February 2011
This home was ideal for our extended weekend getaway.
The front rooms were light, airy and had excellent views. I especially liked that it was well maintained and very clean. Great access to beaches and eateries.
The only minor downside was that the bedrooms and bathrooms did not have sufficient lighting. This will not be an issue if you don't require much light for getting dressed. I will consider packing a lighted travel mirror for makeup application.
We would be happy to return and refer friends and family:) -
