    Additional Location Information

A secluded rural location where you will appreciate both the privacy and tranquillity whilst being within easy distance of a local village shop, and a little further afield, Mahebourg town’s banks, shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants and other amenities.

The sea-shore (which is un-developed) is a 5 minute walk away. The nearest Tourist Beaches of Blue Bay or Trou d’ Deuce are a 20 minute drive along the coastal road, where you will discover long white sandy beaches with restaurants, bars and children's play areas.
The immediate shore-line although rocky, offers opportunities for fishing, snorkelling and boat trips.

    Bird Watching and Animal Watching
Mauritius has some of the rarest birds on Earth. The Mauritius Kestrel, once the world's rarest bird, the Pink Pigeon and the Echo Parakeet, to name only a few, could be found here in the forested slopes of Lion & Bamboo mountains and the nature reserve of Kestrel Valley (formally Domaine du Chasseur)
There is plenty of wildlife resident in the area. You may spot Java deer, forest monkeys, feral pigs, hares, mongoose and tang. Fruit bats are the only mammals endemic to the island you will see them flying past you at night. One of the oldest creatures to inhabit the island is the giant tortoise. Other reptiles you will spot are the day-gecko, and skinks, which may be smaller, but are colourful and interesting to look at.
    Trekking and Mountain Biking
The surrounding country side, is quite mountainous with forested valleys, rivers, sparkling clear streams and unexpected waterfalls. The exotic foliage is lush and tropical. Explore on your own or use our guide - there are many trails, of an easy or strenuous nature.
Mountain Bike riding is available on the door step on invigorating off road adventure trails through the sugar cane fields and mountain slopes. You can also cycle on a leisurely trip to the local shop, or ride along the coastal road, with glorious ocean views.

    Historical.
The district of Old Grand Port is of historical importance – being the area first discovered and occupied on the Island. There are well preserved Dutch remains and a Museum, which are evidence of the Island’s rich history.

      Great week in Mauritius

Left on 04/08/2012 for a stay in February 2012

A great secluded location for a relaxing week in Mauritius. Great self catering cottage was great value for money. Paul and Maryline were great friendly hosts who helped us organise some good daytrips. the location of the villa was fantastic - secluded and pasceful but near enough to the main road to make exploring the island easy.
Would definitely recommend and would use again if returning to Mauritius.
