The town of Blaye is situated on the bank of the Gironde estuary. This working village is an ideal base from which to explore... the wine lands and in which to experience the culture and lifestyle of French Bordeaux.

Situated on the boundary between what is known as the Bordeaux Left and Right banks, Blaye provides easy access to the over 10 000 chateaux in this region. The Medoc on the Left bank is home to four of the five most famous chateaux in the world and a mere 15 minute ferry-ride across the Gironde. On the Right bank Chateau Petrus (which produces the most expensive wine in the world) and the ancient city of St Emilion are just two of the many places not to be missed.

Chez Simon is located just 200 meters from the Citadel of Blaye, a World Heritage Site that was built by the Marquis de Vauban in the 17th century. These fortifications overlook the Gironde estuary and the town of Blaye and were built to defend Bordeaux from the English that were finally expelled from present-day France at the end of the 16th century.

In Blaye one is surrounded by thousands of chateaux – some produce wines that few of us can afford to drink, a few produce wines that are hard to drink but most produce wonderfully affordable and enjoyable Bordeaux wines.

Choose one of the many routes we recommend - drive, cycle or hike to nearby chateaux, farmer markets, flea markets, scenic villages, coastal towns and historic sites. Bring home farm-fresh produce, fine cheeses, mushrooms, sea foods and wines.

Enjoy sun-downers overlooking the Gironde estuary and the Medoc - a short stroll to the ramparts of the Citadel.

Choose one of five restaurants all within easy walking distance of Chez Simon or self-cater in the intimacy of your own apartment.

You could also barbecue in Chez Simon's old-walled courtyard and dine alfresco or, if chilly, light a fire in the piazza and dine fire-side.

  Perfect apartment in the Heart of Medoc Wine Country

  This spacious apartment has everything you need for a relaxing stay in a quaint French country village and is located in the heart of the Bordeaux wine region. The apartment has been freshly renovated and is extremely comfortable. It would suit between 2 and 4 persons and has a full kitchen, together with a washer and dryer. The only thing that could be added would be a microwave. For ease of access to the area, either car or bike hire is recommended and you are within easy cycling distance of the Medoc wine region with many famous chateaux to visit. Everything was organised and ready for us on arrival by efficient managers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this property.

  Everything about Chez Simon is top rate. Our one bedroom apt was spacious and very bright. The kitchen was well equipped and large. Even though there was only two of us, we greatly appreciated the large dining table as we like to play Banagrams--and most rental unit tables are too small. Another plus was the huge bathroom, with four large drawers.
  But, what really made the place unique were the many little, but essential, touches: Not just a washer and dryer, but also soap and bounce; new sponges and plenty of dish soap and dishwasher tabs, extra dish towels and place mats; cleaning supplies; an excellent vacuum cleaner. We were there two weeks and it quickly became home.
  Lastly, it was pristine clean when we arrived.
  
  A few words about Blaye. We loved it. A great walkable little town with very friendly people. A tip: we loved Restaurant a Napoli on the main drag. It is past the Citadel. Worth the walk.

  Perfect Stay for Bordeaux Holiday

  We stay in Bordeaux for 4 nights and this is absolutely the best decision to stay with Chez Simon! This apartment is perfect for our honeymoon trip in France and we enjoyed to the fullest extent by following almost every suggestion by the apartment. Extremely easy parking downstairs, saturday food market with greatest fresh ingredients incl. oysters mussels crab shrimp eggs evrrything uou need for a great dinner, winery visit at both right bankand left bank at medoc region...the highlight of our stay~we cooked every nights and the small kitchen has been impressive with everything we need, the cooking utensils the
  seasonings(very very good )!! We found this is an amazing apartment, new, clean, super functional and user friendly!! Love it and csnt wait to return
