LinlithgowAn intriguiging property in a wonderful location.
Left on 10/21/2012 for a stay in September 2012
The accommodation is advertised as basic but it more than makes up for this by its location, views, bird life and plentiful rope swings (even one indoors!)
I would recommend this property for outdoor types - particularly for mountain biking, cycling and walking. Very close to the excellent Laggan Outdoor activity Centre (longest zipwire in the UK) and Cream O' Galloway. -

We were a family of 6 adults and 2 children. Accommodation had everything needed. Grounds were FaB, saw a deer in the Gardent a couple of times, many beautiful birds, accommodation comfortable, area lovely - near beaches, cream of Galloway adventure play was a great way to spend a day, ice cream yummy. Would go again. Nothing to complain about or to say what was the least best. Only the cooker - gas was not strong enough for cooking family meals - told the caretaker - but that was the only thing I can think of

2nd time at this cottage.Unfortunately this time on arrival my 16 year old daughter found a dried up dog poo under her bed and on the monday, the neighbouring cottage had builders in doing an extention so there was abit of noise with concrete mixers etc and the drive was obstructed on the odd occasion. Also my teenage daughters were embarassed to walk out past all the builders as they did alot of starring at them. However we still had a great time there, the cottage is in a lovely location and caters for everything needed.

We had a wonderful time at this property. The amount of space on offer was incredible, and the property was well equipped (nice big kitchen, and very good television/DVD player if you like that kind of thing). The location was wonderful - great view of the sea, loads of birds outside the window. All in all, a completely wonderful place to go.

Left on 06/15/2011 for a stay in June 2011
This was a great cottage in a lovely spot.
I have two criticisms. The grass in the garden was far too long and when it rained everything was soaked(including the dog) my other complaint is that the bedding (mattress covers and duvets) were grubby and need cleaning or replacing. Don't let that put any potential visitors off. It is great place especially if you have kids in tow.

Stonehouse, South LanarkshireWonderful house in a beautiful location
Left on 04/28/2011 for a stay in April 2011
The Gardeners Cottage is a fantastic, but basic, family orientated house with lots of room both inside and out for children to run around. A 5 minute walk takes you to the sea (rocky coast not sandy) and a 5 minute drive takes you to the Cream O' Galloway ice-cream factory which is terrific for kids and adults alike. The house is very basic in its furnishings but has a great feel about it and you very quickly feel at home. The open fire is great. The kitchen is extremely well equipped (if you cannot find what your looking for you probably don't need it). There is a fantastic variety of birds come to eat from the feeders outside the livingroom window so make sure that you buy plenty of bird seed (it is worth it). There is also a peacock that will eat sunflower seeds from your hand, which my kids loved. I think that this is the most peaceful holiday that I have had in years and would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away from it all and have a great holiday without the frills.

You get what you pay for, this property is dated but clean and cosy, good location and some interesting original features. If youre looking for modern this is not for you however we really liked it and it was very reasonably priced.

Left on 10/11/2010 for a stay in September 2010
The house was really clean and welcoming the caretaker had gone to the trouble of printing out a weather report for the week of our stay which was a nice touch.
There is plenty to see without having to travel miles in the car, the cream o Galloway is worth a visit. In gate house of fleet there is a small supermarket where you can buy nearly all your provisions.
This was our third visit to this house and we love everything about the house, and the surrounding area. we would recommend garden cottage to anyone who is looking for a comfortable house with plenty of places to walk (with dogs) or visit the surrounding area. -

EdinburghAnother fabulous, relaxed week at Knockbrex ...
Left on 10/09/2010 for a stay in July 2010
We have been using Gardener's Cottage at Knockbrex regularly for the last 15 years (at least). When we first came, the kids were in nappies. Now they're at Uni, but they still come back to Knocky for a holiday, even if they don't come home for the summer any more. Such a comfortable holiday house, with a great garden, and in a quiet, magical part of the country.

I don't really want to let too many people know about this house as it may limit our rental opportunities! Comfortable, spacious, relaxing house with room to move and live in. The location is spectacular and very quiet.

Left on 10/09/2010 for a stay in October 2008
Loved the house, it is not a pristine luxury pad but more of a comfortable, quiet, restful retreat set in a beautiful garden. There were 9 of us in the group, ranging from 9 years old up to 52 and everybody really enjoyed just the restfulness and in such a large house the cosyness. We will definitely go back and everytime I see photos of the house it does bring back memories of a great 4 day break.

This house is great if you are wanting a relaxed holiday and have a large family. The house has a lovely outlook across fields to the sea ,and is very quiet . 10 minutes walk takes you to Carrick bay with a small beach, or 5 minutes drive to Sandgreen,a large sandy beach. The house itself is quite basic, but comfortable and equipped with everything we needed, as well as lots of books and childrens toys. There is a large garden with a rope swing and an indoor play area with a swing and crash mats, which the children loved. Our only complaint would be that it was absolutely freezing at night, particularly in the gallery bedroom where the children slept. However, it was december, and the weather was unusually cold when we were there. If you are staying in winter I'd advise bringing some extra blankets, just in case. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at this house( and thanks to the nice owner who sent back some things we had accidentally left ).
