Coombe Cottage is situated in Borrowdale the most beautiful valley in England with stunning paroramic views. The cottage which has been featured in the Sunday Times homes section has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard, and is perfect for groups looking for a characterful cottage in a stunning lakeland location.
We are delighted to add the former Lake District home of film Director Ken Russell and his wife Vivian Russell the well known garden writer and photographer. This landmark Lakeland stone property, featured in Bill Burkett's book on Borrowdale, dates back to the 1860's and has now been the subject of a major refur...bishment to provide 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom accommodation in a much sought after location in the Borrowdale Valley with views to Derwentwater.
Borrowdale is arguably the most beautiful valley in England with the mighty Skiddaw presiding over Derwentwater. It has been featured in recent television programmes hosted by David Dimbleby and Griff Rhys Jones and in the series on Wainwright walks. The late Alfred Wainwright himself described Borrowdale as the fairest valley in the Lake District. It is much loved by walkers, climbers and the true Lake District enthusiast due to its dramatic, stunning scenery and is within 3 miles of Keswick with a wealth of local amenities.
Coombes Cottage sits on the roadside at the entrance to the Borrowdale Valley with superb views from each room to the fells and a superb 360 degree panorama around Maiden Moor, Catbells, Derwentwater, Skiddaw, Shepherds Crag and Coomb Fell from the upstairs living room. The Derwent River with its picturesque China Bridge and duckboards leading to the shores of Derwentwater are only a few minute walk from the house. The garden has been designed by Vivian Russell in response to Borrowdale's legendary rainfall. Topiary in box and yew predominates, designed to echo the shapes of the surrounding fells, gives the gardens good all year round colour and is an ideal place to enjoy an evening glass of wine, views to the nearby fells and to admire the birds and local wildlife that visit the garden.
The accommodation is centrally heated and comprises:
Breakfast kitchen with wood burning stove. Equipped with oven and hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave and fridge/freezer.
Utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and WC.
Master bedroom with views to the lake and en-suite shower room with hand basin and WC.
Twin bedroom and double bedroom sharing an en-suite shower room with hand basins and WC. Conservatory overlooking the garden.
First floor: Open plan lounge/diner with views to nearby Derwentwater with Skiddaw and Shepherds Crag towering above, patio doors lead to a balcony with view to Coombe Fell, with colour TV and DVD player.
Double bedroom with view to Coomb Fell. Bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC.

Our family party of 7 enjoyed a memorable Christmas in this beautifully furnished and spacious property. An initial problem with the heating was quickly resolved by a phone call to the owner. Thank goodness we were warm and snug inside, since the weather was truly horrendous for most of the week!
We could not fault the amenities of Coombe Cottage and the well-equipped kitchen made for hassle-free cooking.
We would certainly visit again - but would hope for kinder weather next time!

This beautiful cottage is a lovely home from home. It is well laid out so the living area makes the most of the amazing views over Derwent water towards Catbells. Well equipped for a family stay. I would highly recommend. Read more
We stayed in this very nice cottage for 4 nights. We were 2 couples and 1 child. This is very nice and relaxing cottage and there is plenty of space in the house for two small family or a single big family. There are plenty of places in lake district to do, so we were mostly outside but it is very relaxing to stay indoor as well
There is parking for 2 cars and I believe you must have a car if you are staying in this property as Keswick is almost 5 miles away and you will feel fairly crippled if you depend on public transport.
The land lady was very polite, she called us personally on the phone to enquire if everything is OK, we did feel very welcomed and it was a nice experience. The agency had charged us 10 pound for cot which was bit irritating and the land lady was also very annoyed at hearing at this and she said she will speak to them about it but we did not pursue it any further, as I was not bothered for extra 10 pounds, considering I had paid almost 700 pounds.
In nutshell I will highly recommend this property

Picked up the keys in Keswick (2-sets) and drove to the cottage which was beautifully clean and tidy. A good supply of logs and coal was on hand which we had requested and a Xmas tree with a large box of chocolates under it was waiting for us in the lounge, we were pleased about the tree as we had our two year old granddaughter with us and Xmas without a tree would be unthinkable for a two year old, the chimney was also ideal for Santa access. The cottage is ideal for our family,my mother in law is 87 so the downstairs bedroom with en-suite is perfect for her and the upstairs bedroom is perfect for my Son and his partner. The location is unbeatable with lovely walks to Watendlath etc on the door step together with easy car access and a bus stop nearby, the views over to cat bells are to die for. I can,t think of anything bad to say apart perhaps for the lack of hot water in the middle of the day. This is the second time we have stayed at Coombe cottage in less than three years and we hope to return in the future.

The property was very very well maintained and nice beyond the description provided in an ideal location.
It had everything one can wish for and more. The description ads and and pictures do not do it justice. I would suggest to owners and agent to update them. It even had internet and WiFi which I didn't remember seeing in description.
It being my first holiday in a cottage has surely set my expectations very high :)
lovely cottage with amazing views and fab location

Had a brilliant long weekend at Coombe Cottage. The best feature was definitely the upstairs open plan lounge which had amazing views from all the windows. Too cold to use the balcony but it would be great on a warmer day. Cottage was cold a times though there were extra heaters provided and wood for the fires. Would have preferred to regulate the heat though. Bedrooms were nicely decorated and beds were very comfy. Lots of bathrooms and has been symapthetically renovated with utilisation of local materials. Its in a beautiful spot with walks nearby. Garden was smaller than looks in pictures so kids couldn't really run around but conservatory was a definite plus for relaxation. Overall one of the best stays we have had. A truly beautiful house - would definitely use again.

Coombe cottage was a delightful cottage in every way: fantastic first floor sitting rooms with wonderful views, lovely ensuite bedrooms, really well equipped kitchen. We also loved the conservatory down one side of the cottage and the balcony. We had a very special family event there and all thought it was a wonderful choice.

A wonderful cottage in which to spend Christmas and New Year. Far enough away from the madding crowd but close enough to Keswick if you needed anything. Wonderful low level, high level and mid level walking available from this ideal location.
The cottage is luxurious but cosy with everything you could wish for provided. Marvellous large kitchen dining area with seating for eight guests in comfort.
Thank you we had a memorable holiday with our family.
