Great, comfy accommodations for 3 of us, close to the T (subway),

Left on 10/12/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Brookline is a great neighborhood town. The T is one block away, a wonderful park to job in was about 8 blocks away, Whole Foods right across the street and restaurants, Starbucks and liquor store just 5 blocks away. Air conditioner worked great, the blow-up bed held our 21 year old just fine, never deflated, he slept on living room floor. Upgraded kitchen (trouble with coffeemaker) and small bath but we managed just fine. Nice to have area near front door to put suitcases and other items. Be aware that "bedroom" is just an alcove but we were aware of that. The staff at Bed & Breakfast assoc Bay Colony was so accommodating and helpful when booking. Thank you!

      Exactly as described

Left on 07/23/2012 for a stay in July 2012

I booked this last-minute as all Boston hotels were sold out due to several conventions and I had some business meetings in Back Bay. I just needed someplace to stay near the Green Line T where I could get a good night's sleep and get some work done (read: with high-speed internet). The photos and other reviews painted an accurate picture of what to expect. Directions were easy to follow (I took the T from Logan) and I found the apartment without any difficulty. The area around the apartment is pretty quiet (except for the Whole Foods across the street) so for dinner, I walked about 5-10 minutes south on Washington Street to Beacon Street in Brookline, where there were a bunch of restaurants to choose from. The air conditioner was a bit noisy but I knew to expect that from reading the other reviews, and it didn't bother me too much (and it kept the room cool on a hot day). Although I would have preferred to be closer to downtown Boston, being one block from a T stop made it easy to get to my meetings on time.

Comfortable small apartment in good location

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The small flat is outside of town, but very easily reached by the subway. It takes good 30 minutes to town. The surrounding is nice with a very convenient whole food market just beside. We stayed 10 days (2 adults, 1 child) and enjoyed it very much. Only negative point: the aircon is too loud (60 dBa).

Good apartment and location but specific parking instructions no

Left on 07/31/2011 for a stay in July 2011

The apartment is conveniently located to a Whole Foods supermarket and train stations. It was clean and comfortable. I would recommend this apartment to anyone visiting Boston who does not have a car. This is where we ran into problems. We arrived after 830pm and as advised on the rental docs no parking was available on the streets. We expected this but according to the rental documents there is paid parking availabel a block away. what they failed to mention was that this parking lot closes and is not available at night. Also not mentioned is how difficult parking is in Boston (for those not familiar with city life). Had this been discussed we probably would not have rented. We called the emergency line after driving around for 1 hour and were told to park downtown and take a bus back to the apartment. Again this was not discussed prior to renting the apartment. I specifically asked about parking and was told at the time of rental that a parking lot is approximately a block away. We ended up parking on Griggs street, several blocks and after speaking to a local man we learned about the permit requirements, and Boston's rules and regulations regarding parking. Ie no parking 1st and 3rd Thursdays due to street cleaning or if you belong to one county you will be towed if you park in aother county's parking space. Anyway, the bottom line, ask BnB associateds to carefully go over all parking details prior to renting this apartment. Arrive there during the day when the residents have gone to work and you will find parking on the street. Maybe they would consider providing a parking permit with this apartment. Also do not park overnight in Whole Foods after 10p or your car will get towed.
Other than that the apartment has a very nice kitchen. The aC works well but is very loud. The shower head needs fixing and kept falling off. The neighborhood is quiet.

      Served its purpose well

Left on 07/26/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My wife, baby and I needed a place in the Brighton/Allston/Brookline vicinity to tide us over from moving out of our Brighton condo and into our new Needham home. The value (albeit slightly high) and location of this unit was just what we were looking for. Given that we had an allston/brighton sticker, parking wasnt much an issue.
      Positives:
It was reasonably spacious for 2 adults and a 15 month old baby. We were initially apprehensive since it is a studio, and what we're we to do after the baby went to sleep at 7:30 for the rest of night?!?!? It turns out the unit is shaped like a horseshoe and we were able to tuck the baby into one side in a pack'n'play and we stayed on the bed on the other side. Kitchen is small but has everything you need. The one window aC does the trick for cooling the place down, but be warned that it is loud...we happen to like the white noise background, but many others may not feel that way! Right on the B line and I would often walk to the C line given that it is a short walk and the C has of course much fewer stops than the B.
As for stuff to do, you get a wholefoods directly across the street, tapas, thai, italian food, a 7-11, and a few parks nearby. What more could you ask for?
Downsides included not being able to have our dog with us despite willingness to lay down a deposit. Also The shower is a handheld type and required a serious balancing act to keep the unit standalone to avoid having to hold the darn thing during your entire shower!
Overall it served its purpose well. We were even a bit sad to leave given how cozy it was, but due to cost we spent our final "homeless" week with our in-laws and we get to see our puppy again!

Excellent little condo in a nice quiet area

Left on 07/11/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My husband and I stayed here for a week over the 4th of July. We were very pleased with the condo and all the upgraded amenities. The subway is literally a 2-3 minute walk around the corner, and we were able to buy a week long pass at the 7/11 on the corner, so that made it ultra convenient. As others have said, it is a good 35 minute ride into the heart of Boston, but since we were there for a week, we didn't mind. The condo is located right between Boston U and Boston College, so there were lots of college kids around. We had no problems with noise since most of the kids were gone for the summer. The aC worked well in cooling off the entire area since it's so small. The bed was fairly comfortable. As someone else mentioned, the shower head doesn't work correctly and you have to hold it the entire time you take a shower. I already notified the B&B; company about this. They were very responsive to calls. We had a smoke alarm making noises due to a bad battery and they resolved the issue quickly. I rated the cleanliness as a 4 because we noticed a couple of ants here and there throughout the condo. Not enough to gross you out, but they were still around. Overall, I'd gladly stay in this condo again and would recommend it highly to others.

      Tiny but awesome!

Left on 06/23/2011 for a stay in June 2011

The apartment was so beautifully and stylishly decorated in a Pier One sort of way. Beautiful paint colors, granite counter tops, light fixtures and furniture. It would have been nice if some muffins or granola bars or fruit or something was left there for the guests to enjoy. (Especially since it is listed by a B&B; company.) However, it is totally awesome that the Whole Foods store is across the street and you can just pop over there and get whatever you need. And just in case they are closed and you have a late night craving for something sweet, like we did... there is a 7-11 just around the corner too. The train station is just around the corner, so that was very convienient!! The ride into Boston was about 35 min. so I would have probably rathered to stay in Boston to decrease travel time. But then again, it was cool to be in that little college town. It felt safe and freindly. The bed wasn't that comfortable. It sagged in the middle. But all in all, it was a fantastic place to stay and it felt like our little home for a couple of days!!!

Charming Place at a Convenient Location

Left on 11/23/2010 for a stay in November 2010

My husband and daughter stayed here for one week to visit Children's Hospital and we were very happy with the condo. The reason I picked this place is because the reviews said the people are caring and friendly if you have any complaints or questions, and I found that to be true. The bed is comfortable and I did not find it noisy from the hallway as I had feared. I loved that the bus and subway are within a block, and Whole Foods is across the street. The only changes I would ask for are additional curtains in the bedroom and to fix the shower head in the tub so it stays upright. We would come back again.

This flat is terrific. I stayed there with two of my sisters for 6 days. It is very attractive place, full kitchen, very clean, well equipped. Three is the maximum occupancy, and two of us shared the queen bed. Would be ideal for a couple with one other person because of that. T stop is about a one minute walk. Whole Foods across the street. Restaurants close by. We used the building's laundry. It is a very safe area.

      Disappointing

Left on 09/27/2010 for a stay in September 2010

The accommodations were adequate and the kitchen well stocked. The bed was comfortable but the futon was thin and lumpy. The Mbta is very accessible so public transportation was great. The most dramatic issue involved parking and the absence of accurate information. We had to have our rental car due travels before and after Boston. We advised of this at the time of booking. The only information we received was that curb parking was limited but additional overnight parking was available for $20 at a nearby gas station. We were very careful to take this into consideration. We parked the car between apts # 309 & 311 where there was no signage. The Thursday night before we had to leave for the airport by 4 am the next morning, we found that our car had been towed. Seems that there is signage down the block indicating that Street Cleaning occurs on the 1st and 3rd Thursday from 9 - 12 from May to Oct. This phenomenon was very obscure to anyone who is visiting for the first time. We had to take a cab to pick up the car at the tow lot and spend another $113 to retrieve it from the tow lot. When we returned, there was no street parking available within a several mile radius. We drove around searching for street parking for approx 90 minutes. We also went to the gas station indicated on the instructions but there was not an attendant present and we could not take the risk of being towed again. We finally called the Emergency Contact # for the condo and spoke with a woman who indicated that the only options were to call the police for assistance or park in Boston and take another cab home. It's astounding to me that the condo would not provide information about the street cleaning protocol since an out of town guest would never be able to anticipate that. In addition, guests need to be advised that there really isn't any viable back-up plan for parking. I would not have rented this accommodation had I been given accurate information from the outset.

Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 09/30/2010

Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony

      Owner

We make it very clear at the time of booking that parking in the area around this apartment is very limited. We certainly felt bad that the guest’s car was towed but she understood that it was her responsibility to read all posted parking signs. The city of Boston usually has one parking restrictions sign posted per block, which is typical in most metropolitan areas.

When the guest called the emergency line at 12:30 a.m., we suggested either she go to a lot about a mile away or try to find street parking on some of the streets north of the apartment. Alternatively, she could park in a garage downtown and take a cab back. She did not want to pursue any of these options because she wanted to be within a short walk of the apartment. The only option at that point was to suggest calling the local police precinct to see if they were aware of any additional parking in the area. We wish we could offer better parking options in the city but since we can’t, we go out of our way to make this clear to guests before they book.

      Much better than a hotel!

Left on 08/05/2010 for a stay in July 2010

We decided to try something different on our trip to Boston with our teenage son. Book & check in was very convenient. The agency was very nice & friendly. The apartment itself was nice and had every amenity you could want, from extra towels and blankets, to all kinds of appliances in the kitchen - even some basic condiments such as salt & pepper, sugar, etc.
The bed was very comfortable and my son did not complain about sleeping on the futon mattress on the floor. The location is extremely convenient to the BC line on Washington St, so there was no problem in getting in and out of Boston. Parking, of course, was very difficult, but we decided that our car was going to be parked and not touched again until we left. I only saw one or two spots open up the entire time we stayed, so don't plan on using your car unless you want to roam the neighborhood for a spot or pay the gas station around the corner $20 a day.
The down sides of the apartment, and I am being picky here, are these - the shower has very low water pressure! I felt like I was standing under a drip faucet to rinse off. Not a big deal, but it was annoying. The other issue was that we had very explicit rules and penalties about making noise. This rule apparently does not apply to the rest of the tenants as both Friday & Saturday I was awoken several times between midnight & 3 am by the front doors slamming shut. The headboard is right on the other side of the foyer entrance door, so as a light sleeper, I heard every person coming in & out. This is a big issue for me as it seems hotels always have people going in and out all hours of the night and early morning. On the other hand - my wife and son slept through it all. Overall though, once the doors were shut, the people got to where they were going and were quite. Having the a/C unit on also covered a lot of any street noise.
I would definitely use this service again and would even stay in the same apartment for the mere convenience of it's location.

We’re so sorry that your sleep was disrupted by people coming in and out of the front door. We have never heard this complaint before but will let future guests know that it may not be ideal for light sleepers.

This little apartment was just right for the two of us. It was private and quiet and spotless. The staff at Bed and Breakfast associates Bay Colony was more than helpful, and very responsive to every question. Best Possible Last Minute Outcome!

Left on 07/13/2010 for a stay in June 2010

From the first time we called, to our check-out and returning our keys, the service we received was top-notch! They were able to accommodate our last minute request and were always available when we called (even on Saturday when we left). It was great to have our little "home away from home" in Boston. It was comfortable and it was great to have a kitchen, bathroom, and living room! Although it wasn't right in the downtown area, it was only a short walk to both the "B" and "C" green T lines and the ride in to town after that wasn't too bad. It was conveniently right across the store from a Whole Foods, there was a great pizza place down the street, and a Starbucks, local pub and bakery and other shops less than ten minutes walk away! We Liked Best: Customer Service. We Liked Least: Not Being Right in Downtown.

The Price cannot be beat. It was easy to book and the terms and conditions are easy to accept and follow. This is setup like a true residence in the Boston/Allston area. From Elegance and Comfort to ease of Transit. If you just go out the front door and around the corner to the right is the Green Line. I liked the fact that I got to experience what it would be like to actually live in Boston for a week. The down side is that if you are only planning on a short stay the commute would probably be a bit much.
