What Past Guests Are Saying
Fantastic location, friendly landlady, clean and tidy, lots of c
Loved the location, especially if arriving on amtrak--just a few blocks from the back bay station. Clean and tidy place, building with a lot of old charm and character, but most wonderfully a super location. Could pretty much walk to just about everything and terrific restaurants right around the corner. I'd go back!
The unit is really very nice and confortable. Has all you need. Near there (South End) You have most of the best of boston . You can walk anyplace. The owner is allways there for everything you need
A wonderful surprise
My son and I stayed at the small apartment for 2 nights and only wish it could have been longer. We were impressed with the whole experience. The way the old decor and the needs of modern life were combined really impressed us. We loved the marble fireplaces, ceiling decorations and the very tall windows gave it so much character. And yet all our needs were met with the furnishings, the kitchenette and the comfortable bed. Our only problem was finding a reasonably priced restaurant.
We love it here! It's a home away from home!
Beautiful brownstone in great neighborhood, close to Back Bay subway station. Very quiet, lots of room and Julia could not have been nicer. This was the second time we stayed in this unit, and we look forward to our next visit. A great choice for anyone, you will not be disappointed!
Good location and very comfortable apartment
The apartment is very comfortable and was fine for four of us. The kitchen is good for breakfast and/or lunch, but it would be difficult to do 'heavy' cooking, as there is no counter space. It suited our needs just fine. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathroom is extremely tiny. It worked fine for our needs, could be a problem for some. I am 5'3 and I still bumped into walls. We are pretty easy-going, so we were OK with it. I highly recommend Picco on Tremont St. nearby. Their cinnamon (homemade) ice cream is perhaps the best I've ever had and the pesto pasta was also delicious. If you walk to the grocery store, I would take a left on Tremont and then take the nice tree lined stree with walk up apartments (first right from Tremont as you walk north). Once Dartmouth crosses Tremont (Dartmouth is around the corner from the apartment), it quickly seems to change and it appeared that we were walking through the projects of Boston. We were really taken by surprise and definitely would have avoided this street. Once we were at the grocery store, it seemed just fine. We did have some difficulty finding the apartment, as we had driven to Boston. Unless you are familiar with the area, it is extremely dificult to exit the highway at the right place, as it comes up very suddenly and without good signage. The directions need to be much clearer. Since we missed the exit, we got totally lost on the way and it took us quite a bit of extra time and a lot of extra stress to get there!
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 08/02/2012
We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay but we’re sorry you got lost on your way here! We try our best to provide clear directions but Boston roads are notorious for being confusing and poorly signed. We’ll take another look at our driving directions to see if there are any details we can clarify. The apartment is located in the highly desirable neighborhood of the South End. Tremont Street, which is often referred to as “Restaurant Row,” is home to many top-notch restaurants and trendy shops. Boston, like any city, has a diverse range of neighborhoods within a walkable distance of almost any location in the city.
Fantastic apartment Stay..Brilliant Location and Reasonable
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay,Boston BnB agency were very professional and efficient to deal with, fantastic prompt service. The apartment was spotless and comfortable and in a fantastic location...walking distance to the cafes,Back Bay Subway,Copley Square etc.The owner Julia is a delight, very helpful and thoughtful,we will recommend the apartments (we tried downstairs and upstairs during our 2 visits)to our friends and hope to return in the future.
The apartment is as described and is very comfortable in all respects. Julia was waiting for me on the front steps when I arrived and was the perfect host throughout my stay--available and very friendly but not intrusive at all. I particularly loved having the large front room with desk, futon and TV for working and relaxing. The bedroom is quiet, with bountiful sunlight streaming in in the morning. The air conditioners (in the front room and bedroom) worked just great on the 2 days when I needed to use them. You can't beat staying this neighborhood--great food, coffee shops and transportation just out your apartment door. All in all a great stay. I'll be back!

Easy location for the subway to get around the city. No car needed. Julia took very good care of us. Always available for questions and guidance. We will be back.
Absolute joy as expected in photos and from google street view
The room we had was facing the street on half a level up from the street up about 10 steps and the manager Julia was delightful. I rang her from the airport at 9pm and said said we were just about to step in a taxi. She was waiting for us and we stayed 5 nights. Clean tidy reasonable room for 2 great location no night noise a school across the othe side of montgomery street but school buses are the next street. Large fridge no dishwasher all you need for a few days. Food shops one block away in two directions. Wifi is free.
Newmarket, Ontario ~ Canada
My husband and I spent 3 nights here. We wanted to explore Boston and with the convenience of being so close to BackBay Station, we were able to get everywhere we wanted quickly. The accommodations were more than we needed and were great. Julia was kind enough to arrange for us to drop off our luggage early upon our arrival so we wouldn't have to carry it around with us all day.
Be sure to stop by Flour for the best sticky buns ever!
Excellent location to start exploring from
We recently spent a week at this rental. It was clean and spacious and the location was great for us to explore the city, whether we went by foot or on the T. Only a short walk to Back Bay station. Had a fantastic time and would recommend highly.

Great apartment in a lovely area of Boston
This was a roomy and comfortable apartment on the ground floor in a typical (and beautiful) brownstone building. The location was great - an easy walk to the Back Bay station, and plenty of shops and restaurants close by. Julie, the owner, greeted us warmly and was extremely helpful when little problems arose. The only slight concern was that the bathroom is very small. This didn't bother me,(I'm quite small), but my husband had to move in and out very carefully. In general however, we really enjoyed our stay.
Great location, all you need to chill out
In town for a conference and workshop and did not want to find myself after a long day in one of those enormous, impersonal corporate hotels. This was the perfect solution as I could eat out if I wanted or eat in and chill out. The apartment was perfect, although the bathroom arrangements a little tight for more than 2 people. Location was great, 5 mins by foor to Copley Sq., shops, restaurants, etc.. Also right next to Tremont street. The owner made sure everything was going well without being to present. All in all I would recommend this apartment and the agency I went through.
Best value you can find in Boston. What you see and what you read is what you get. It really gives you the flavor of what Boston is all about.
Great apartment and perfect location
My husband and I were visiting Boston with our 9 month old son, and we are so happy we chose this accomodation! Julia, who greeted us there upon arrival, was so sweet and always helpful when we had questions or inquiries.
The first impression of the apartment is that it is spacious and clean, and we find it met all our needs. We felt safe, and the neighborhood is so nice, with everything you need right around the corner. We came by car, and it was not a big hassle to find parking nearby. We would definitely stay here when we come back.
Nice location - not baby friendly
We stayed in the lower unit of this apartment with our 10 month old daughter. The location was great and the building itself was nice. We were told on more than one occasion that our baby was crying too much and when we invited one of our friends who lived in the Boston area to visit we were told that we weren't allowed to bring guests into the unit. If we were a single couple this would have been a decent rental. However I would not recommend this unit to travellers with children.
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 10/18/2011
We welcome children of all ages. However, these guests had friends who visited for hours during the day with their colicky infant. Other guests in the building complained about the noise, so I was obligated to address the issue.
loved the location
I wouldn't hesitate to book the same apt again. In fact, sipping a class of wine out on the front stoop after a long day of sightseeing, people watching as everyone strolled their babies or walked their dog, was one of our favorite memories. Lovely choice of restaurants within a couple of blocks. There was a problem with the stove and they sent someone right over to fix it.
Perfect base for exploring Boston.
This apartment was small but perfect as a base for exploring the city with two young children. Lovely location with lots to see, walking distance to the Public Gardens, library etc and easy public transport when the feet got tired. Owner was really helpful and welcoming. We loved our stay.
The whole experience was fantastic. My husband and I felt very much like we were at home and felt comfortable knowing the owner lives in the same complex and was nice and helpful. The only drawback was that the bathroom was on the small side but it's to be expected in older homes. I would recommend this apartment to any friends or family that may be interested in visiting Boston. We felt very safe in the neighbourhood.
Wonderful apartment in Boston's South End
We were pleasantly surprised by the size and location of the apartment. It is bigger than the photos show with 4 rooms - living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. It's centrally located in a charming 1890's townhouse in a lovely, safe and quiet neighborhood in the trendy South End. I stayed there with my husband and 13 yr old daughter for 5 nights in July. The extra bed in the living room is actually a futon which is more comfortable than a pull-out sofa bed. There are 2 window air conditioners - one in the living room and one in the bedroom, along with two table fans. The owner, Julia, was accessible and very accommodating to all our needs including tourist tips and allowing us to store our luggage in the building since we had a late flight out of Boston on our last day. It's also only a 4-block walk to the Back Bay T station. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended the apartment to friends of ours who will be traveling to Boston. One more important point, the location on the map in Tripadvisor shows the location in downtown Boston, but it should be corrected to show it in South End.
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 07/21/2011
We're glad you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for pointing out the error on the map -- We've corrected it so it should show the location in the South End.
Saint Paul, MN
Charming little apartment, clean and great location.
The only reason for one less star for the "comfort" is my husband (who is over 6') found the bathroom too small. Otherwise it was a great way to visit Boston. We came to show our 4 and 8 year olds Boston. You are close to so many great things including the T to get you every where. Charming apartment in a pretty building on a pretty street. It was very clean. The owners made it super easy to get a key. She was very accomidating! We hope to come back and will tell everyone about this great find!
Great accommodation in a delightful part of Boston
The agency and the owner were very helpful, prompt, and efficient in regard to booking, email confirmation and subsequent telephone communications. The property is exactly as described and is in a delightful part of Boston. This is a service I would definitely recommend.
Location, Location, Location
I found this brownstone through this website and appreciated the reviews when deciding upon renting or not. It was a nice place in the heart of Boston south end. So nice to stay in a neighborhood and not hotel, getting a "real" Boston experience. We found wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, cafe's all within walking distance.
Don't expect plush as this is an older place but well worth it for price. Bathroom is very small and could be an obstacle for some folks. The owner is very nice and helpful answering any questions you might have about the area.
The apartment itself was very comfortable, two flat screen tv's, internet access, large closets but the bathroom was uncomfortably small for my 6 foot frame.
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 05/19/2011
We're glad this guest enjoyed all the amenities the apartment offers. The bathroom is small but we do have a picture posted so that guests will know what to expect.
My daughter and I stayed at this wonderful apartment while visiting Boston area colleges. The location is excellent: close to public transportation, terrific grocery store and fabulous restaurants, and only 1 mile from Boston Commons. We walked everywhere. The apartment is cozy, very spacious and quiet. The owner wonderful. We wish we could have stayed longer! Absolutely no complaints!
Great location and comfortable accomodation
Great location - short walk from Back Bay station, so great for us. We travelled with our baby and there was plenty of room. The owner was very nice and met us and showed us the apartment. There seemed to be not much vacation apartment rentals in Boston, so the B&B; association is a fantastic resource!

A home from home
We found the apartment very comfortable and it had everything we needed. Although the bathroom is small it was adequate for our stay. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was lovely to be able to relax in a large lounge.
The location was excellent for Back bay station and it was within walking distance of the city. There were restaurants and shops nearby. All in all an excellent holiday home with a very friendly land lady!
Excellent location in a friendly neighborhood
Having never been to Boston I didn't really know anything about the neighborhoods or where I was staying but did a little research and decided that this area (Back Bay, South End, Beacon Hill - not sure exactly which one!) was a good place for me and I was right! The apartment is a five minute walk from the train station, is in a lovely neighborhood and the owner was very accommodating and friendly. The apartment is small but has everything needed. I would have loved to have stayed another week. I really loved this area. The only hiccup was an odd one - the door knobs on the doors are set very close to the edge of the doors and more than once I crushed my fingers between the jamb and the door pulling it shut. It hurt!
Hope to stay again!
This location was perfect for our plans to see most of the central city sites. The neighborhood and the proximity to the river are big pluses, but the accommodation itself was fantastic, too. We could not have been more comfortable and the condo is clean, fun and bright. Thanks for a great time.
West Chester, OH
My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary and first trip to Boston. We found it very comfortable and cozy. It has everything you could need on vacation and more. The bed and linens were perfect! It's a short walk from Back Bay Station and plenty of excellent restaurants and shops.
Would love to stay here again!

Enjoyed Our Stay
Overall, very much enjoyed out stay. Very quiet, even though it's in the middle of the city. Comfortable. Nice to have a 1 bedroom place instead of just a room. Close to the T. Only negative was that the bathroom was very small, but it worked for us. Would stay again.

Comfort and Convenience
Our stay in Boston was made enjoyable by being able to come back to nice accommodation and 'do our own thing' in comfort. The location was great, just a short walk from the station, but close enough to get to everything in Boston. Good facilities in the unit. Recommended.
Good overall experience
I'll start with the main drawback of the apartment. I had not realized it is located on levels -1 and -2, so you have very little light. There are few windows, and the light hardly gets in. But we did not spend that much time in the apartment, so that was more discomfort than a real issue.
Now the positives. Julia (the owner) is very friendly and gave us excellent advice.
We wanted a place more central but booked late so we had to go for South End. The subway is really 5mn away, then 3 stops and you're downtown. It was much more accessible than expected. The neighborhood offers everything you need (restaurants, take-away, laundry, grocery, playgrounds for the kids...).
We were lucky enough to be there during school holidays. So we were able to park just in front of the apartment for free, instead of the $30+ expected per day.
Awesome Boston Stay!
My husband and I really enjoyed this apartment. It was clean, quiet, comfortable, and had all the conveniences we needed for our stay. It was withing walking distance of a number of attractions, shops and restaurants in Boston. I would definitely stay here again!

A "Must Stay" Apartment
From the first enquiry, Julia was extremely helpful, and could not have provided more information than she did. And it just got better from there: when we were there she was so helpful. We perhaps thought it was small when we first arrived (for the first 2 minutes), but in actual fact it was perfect for my husband and I. The important things were great: the bed was comfortable, the shower good, the stove worked well (maybe that was my husband's cooking too!!), the fridge was a good size, the air con worked well, good having a fan in the bedroom, lights either side of the bed, good cupboard space for hanging (and lots of hangers) and a chest of drawers for the rest. Nice wine glasses and plates. All in all, excellent value and we would definitely return there if coming back to Boston. So happy were we, we bought Julia a bunch of flowers!
Great stay in South End
Loved the location and the property manager was very accommodating and caring -- I had to return home for 36 hours leaving my teenage son behind; Julia was just like family, offering to look in on him while I was away. One note: needed a late check-out and that wasn't possible; understandable but worth noting for people who, like me, are often working a full day the day of departure.
Cozy flat with great location
We were delighted with the apartment in Boston. The location was delightful with the multitude of parks and proximity to the bus and subway lines--not to mention the restaurants and shops. The apartment was clean and suited our needs perfectedly with 2 adults and 2 small children. The owner was accomodating for our travel needs. We would love to go back again some day.

Located in a beautiful brownstone, 5 minutes from Copley Square. Everything we could ask for and more. Quiet and clean, safe and beautiful. Thank you!
A great experience!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this location. It met our needs perfectly - provided a safe, comfortable place to retire in the evenings after a long day of sightseeing. It was nice having a kitchen which was completely stocked with cooking utensils & dinnerware. There were a couple of grocery stores nearby for pick ups. The owner was very kind and greeted us upon arrival as well as checking in prior to departure. A positive experience for us (2 adults, 1 child).
It was a great place, good location, good services in a great neighborhood close to everything. The places clean and well equipped. The bathroom is small and parking is a bit difficult in this area, but we all love the place and would take it again.
Great place to stay with family in Boston
This was an extremely affordable option for us for a long, 10-day stay in Boston. Not only was the rental itself affordable, but having the kitchen meant that we could take care of quick meals ourselves when needed/wanted.
We chose this apartment on the basis that we could self cater and so save money. In the event it has two cooking rings ,one of which did not work, and a microwave. So no oven, no grill , only one cooking ring, absolutely no "extras" -not even washing liquid to do the dishes.
In its favour- the bed is comfortable and it the area is quiet but don't expect to have a home from home.
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 08/02/2010
This apartment is advertised as having only a two-burner cooktop, microwave and toaster – no grill or oven. This description is also included in all reservation confirmations, so the guest was aware of the cooking accommodations before her arrival. We are sorry that one of the burners was not working and wish she had told us while she was here. We would have had it repaired immediately. We also would have restocked the liquid dish soap and will make sure to check the supply more frequently in the future.
Great location and well outfitted, seamless logistics
We found thsi apartment was terrific - the owner was really helpful and teh arrangements for our arrival and departure seamless - which given the times of both was appreciated. The apartment was in a great location and very well outfitted with many small touches that really make a difference when you are there short term. There was information for local shopping and things which was also terrific. We had just come from NYC where we rented an apartment which was a totally different and not pleasant experience - this was easy, comfortable and I would reccommend it to others and stay again. It gets a great rating from us.
We had a wonderful stay, beautiful place.
The apartment is very beautiful with wonderful architectural details. The location is perfect. There are great restaurants and cafes within easy walking and you can also walk to most of Boston's attractions from there. Certainly far better than driving and parking. The owner is delightful. She had everything ready for us and was very interesting to talk to about the history of the building, etc.
The only drawbacks (and I feel the good so far outweighs the less than good that they need to be mentioned but the property is worth it) are parking (challenging but can be done) and the bathroom is small (everything you need but very "cosy"). I will certainly stay there again when I am in Boston and recommend it to anyone looking for a great place in a great location.

A wonderful Boston Family Vacation
The location of our rental was perfect, exactly what we were looking for and no need to rent a car.
Julia and her staff (Manny) were very accommodating and made our stay in Boston a pleasant one. I especially appreciated being able to drop off our luggage early to the apt. due to our earlier than expected arrival.
The close proximity to the T, excellent restuarants, pubs, shopping, grocery store and nearby Boston attractions was ideal.
We're looking forward to our next visit!
Great rental in a quiet and nice neighborhood
Nicely decorated flat in a typical house; 2 rooms and a kitchen.
Convenient to stores, restaurant, bars and public transportation.
I felt very comfortable (I traveled alone), but kitchen and bathroom might be a
bit small for more than 2 people.
Boston Backbay Neighborhood Rental
The accommodations at (M373-2) Boston Vacation were cozy and clean. The neighborhood was quiet and in close proximately to neighborhood markets, dry cleaners and restaurants.
The owner was friendly and helpful in helping us with our arrival arrangements and supplying additional information when needed to make our stay pleasant.
I would recommend bringing clothing for varying temperatures as the apartment did get a little warm during unexpected hot weather days in early May.
San Diego, CA
Clean Brownstone and in the Perfect location
The brownstone was clean and had all the amenities needed - full bath, full
kitchen, queen bed and futon. The space was a little on the small size, but for
being in the heart of Boston you couldn't ask for anything better. Location,
location, location - everything was in walking distance, Tremont Street where
various restaurants are located, Newbery Street where all the shops are and
Copley Square - all within a 5 to 10 minute walk.
Only negative was the property manager seemed to come by daily to 'check in'
and see how we were, but felt more like checking in to see how the property
was being kept. Overall would stay there again and recommend to friends.
Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 05/03/2010
We're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Just wanted to point out that the owner never enters any unit without permission. The only reason she checked in with this guest was because she had received a noise complaint from the unit below. This guest had brought her baby, which the host does not allow during the marathon, and the guests below complained about noise from the baby and toys on the floor.
Our Girls Trip
The unit was sunny, beautiful and cozy. We had a wonderful time! One small issue...Small bathroom...two females. Enough said.
Lovely apartment in an ideal location
This apartment was just what we were looking for - a nice, clean place in a good neighborhood with lots of local charm. It was relatively close to the T (Back Bay Station), there were abundant local neighborhood shops and markets, the apartment was very clean and neat, the bed was very comfortable, and our hostess was genuinely concerned that our needs were met. This was the epitome of a home away from home.
Close, Cozy and Comfortable
A well appointed, nicely kept apt within a downtown Boston townhouse. Owner greeted us at arrival and everything was as expected and quite nice. We were attending a conference at Hynes Ctr. and the apt was less than 10 minute walk away. Very nice neighborhood and conveniences are close by such as stores, restaurants, etc. The place was "cozy" for five people but that the owner accommodated a last minute change from 4 to 5 was outstanding. Definitely worth the cost. Short distance from train station too. I'd highly recommend this place or one of the other apts offered. just remember this is a "cozy" sized apt. and has all the amenities you'd need in a short-stay place. five stars to the owner and BnB Boston.
The owner was very accomodating - left a key so we could get in a bit early and on the last day let us leave our luggage on site at check out time so we could continue exploring until our plane left late in the day.
The apartment worked well for us. We had two college age women wih us. They slept on the futon in the living room while my hubby and I had the bedroom. We had acess to the apartment hallway via a locking door to our bedroom as well as through the livingroom. That meant the young women could stay out late and not disturbe us when they came in and we could leave early each day while they slept in.
It was an easy six blocks to the subway and there were lots of good local places to eat. We bought a 7 dy Charlie passs for each of us and we travelled far and wide in Boston without needing a car!!
A wonderous Boston sojourn
The apt turned out as great as I'd hoped - super location, comfortable furnishings, cozy atmosphere. The owner is not only helpful, but also extremely thoughtful. I'll keep out the laborious details, but there was one day when my 74 year old father was going to be alone for several hours. The owner called him to make sure he had everything he needed and didn't need any assistance. I was impressed. My only "discomforts" w/the unit were the small size of the bathroom and the malfunctioning of one of the two stove burners. Otherwise, our stay was perfecto! Thanks - lg
