Loved the location, especially if arriving on amtrak--just a few blocks from the back bay station. Clean and tidy place, building with a lot of old charm and character, but most wonderfully a super location. Could pretty much walk to just about everything and terrific restaurants right around the corner. I'd go back!

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012
My son and I stayed at the small apartment for 2 nights and only wish it could have been longer. We were impressed with the whole experience. The way the old decor and the needs of modern life were combined really impressed us. We loved the marble fireplaces, ceiling decorations and the very tall windows gave it so much character. And yet all our needs were met with the furnishings, the kitchenette and the comfortable bed. Our only problem was finding a reasonably priced restaurant.

Chicago, IllinoisGood location and very comfortable apartment
Left on 07/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012
The apartment is very comfortable and was fine for four of us. The kitchen is good for breakfast and/or lunch, but it would be difficult to do 'heavy' cooking, as there is no counter space. It suited our needs just fine. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bathroom is extremely tiny. It worked fine for our needs, could be a problem for some. I am 5'3 and I still bumped into walls. We are pretty easy-going, so we were OK with it. I highly recommend Picco on Tremont St. nearby. Their cinnamon (homemade) ice cream is perhaps the best I've ever had and the pesto pasta was also delicious. If you walk to the grocery store, I would take a left on Tremont and then take the nice tree lined stree with walk up apartments (first right from Tremont as you walk north). Once Dartmouth crosses Tremont (Dartmouth is around the corner from the apartment), it quickly seems to change and it appeared that we were walking through the projects of Boston. We were really taken by surprise and definitely would have avoided this street. Once we were at the grocery store, it seemed just fine. We did have some difficulty finding the apartment, as we had driven to Boston. Unless you are familiar with the area, it is extremely dificult to exit the highway at the right place, as it comes up very suddenly and without good signage. The directions need to be much clearer. Since we missed the exit, we got totally lost on the way and it took us quite a bit of extra time and a lot of extra stress to get there!

We’re so glad you enjoyed your stay but we’re sorry you got lost on your way here! We try our best to provide clear directions but Boston roads are notorious for being confusing and poorly signed. We’ll take another look at our driving directions to see if there are any details we can clarify. The apartment is located in the highly desirable neighborhood of the South End. Tremont Street, which is often referred to as “Restaurant Row,” is home to many top-notch restaurants and trendy shops. Boston, like any city, has a diverse range of neighborhoods within a walkable distance of almost any location in the city.

The apartment is as described and is very comfortable in all respects. Julia was waiting for me on the front steps when I arrived and was the perfect host throughout my stay--available and very friendly but not intrusive at all. I particularly loved having the large front room with desk, futon and TV for working and relaxing. The bedroom is quiet, with bountiful sunlight streaming in in the morning. The air conditioners (in the front room and bedroom) worked just great on the 2 days when I needed to use them. You can't beat staying this neighborhood--great food, coffee shops and transportation just out your apartment door. All in all a great stay. I'll be back!

I rang her from the airport at 9pm and said said we were just about to step in a taxi. She was waiting for us and we stayed 5 nights. Clean tidy reasonable room for 2 great location no night noise a school across the othe side of montgomery street but school buses are the next street. My husband and I spent 3 nights here. We wanted to explore Boston and with the convenience of being so close to BackBay Station, we were able to get everywhere we wanted quickly. The accommodations were more than we needed and were great. Julia was kind enough to arrange for us to drop off our luggage early upon our arrival so we wouldn't have to carry it around with us all day.

Left on 11/15/2011 for a stay in October 2011
This was a roomy and comfortable apartment on the ground floor in a typical (and beautiful) brownstone building. The location was great - an easy walk to the Back Bay station, and plenty of shops and restaurants close by. Julie, the owner, greeted us warmly and was extremely helpful when little problems arose. The only slight concern was that the bathroom is very small. This didn't bother me,(I'm quite small), but my husband had to move in and out very carefully. In general however, we really enjoyed our stay.

Left on 11/02/2011 for a stay in October 2011
In town for a conference and workshop and did not want to find myself after a long day in one of those enormous, impersonal corporate hotels. This was the perfect solution as I could eat out if I wanted or eat in and chill out. The apartment was perfect, although the bathroom arrangements a little tight for more than 2 people. Location was great, 5 mins by foor to Copley Sq., shops, restaurants, etc.. Also right next to Tremont street. The owner made sure everything was going well without being to present. All in all I would recommend this apartment and the agency I went through.

My husband and I were visiting Boston with our 9 month old son, and we are so happy we chose this accomodation! Julia, who greeted us there upon arrival, was so sweet and always helpful when we had questions or inquiries.
The first impression of the apartment is that it is spacious and clean, and we find it met all our needs. We felt safe, and the neighborhood is so nice, with everything you need right around the corner. We came by car, and it was not a big hassle to find parking nearby. We would definitely stay here when we come back. -

Left on 10/10/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We stayed in the lower unit of this apartment with our 10 month old daughter. The location was great and the building itself was nice. We were told on more than one occasion that our baby was crying too much and when we invited one of our friends who lived in the Boston area to visit we were told that we weren't allowed to bring guests into the unit. If we were a single couple this would have been a decent rental. However I would not recommend this unit to travellers with children.

I wouldn't hesitate to book the same apt again. In fact, sipping a class of wine out on the front stoop after a long day of sightseeing, people watching as everyone strolled their babies or walked their dog, was one of our favorite memories. Lovely choice of restaurants within a couple of blocks. There was a problem with the stove and they sent someone right over to fix it.

Novato, CaliforniaWonderful apartment in Boston's South End
Left on 07/13/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We were pleasantly surprised by the size and location of the apartment. It is bigger than the photos show with 4 rooms - living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. It's centrally located in a charming 1890's townhouse in a lovely, safe and quiet neighborhood in the trendy South End. I stayed there with my husband and 13 yr old daughter for 5 nights in July. The extra bed in the living room is actually a futon which is more comfortable than a pull-out sofa bed. There are 2 window air conditioners - one in the living room and one in the bedroom, along with two table fans. The owner, Julia, was accessible and very accommodating to all our needs including tourist tips and allowing us to store our luggage in the building since we had a late flight out of Boston on our last day. It's also only a 4-block walk to the Back Bay T station. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended the apartment to friends of ours who will be traveling to Boston. One more important point, the location on the map in Tripadvisor shows the location in downtown Boston, but it should be corrected to show it in South End.

I found this brownstone through this website and appreciated the reviews when deciding upon renting or not. It was a nice place in the heart of Boston south end. So nice to stay in a neighborhood and not hotel, getting a "real" Boston experience. We found wonderful restaurants, coffee shops, cafe's all within walking distance.
Don't expect plush as this is an older place but well worth it for price. Bathroom is very small and could be an obstacle for some folks. The owner is very nice and helpful answering any questions you might have about the area. -

Having never been to Boston I didn't really know anything about the neighborhoods or where I was staying but did a little research and decided that this area (Back Bay, South End, Beacon Hill - not sure exactly which one!) was a good place for me and I was right! The apartment is a five minute walk from the train station, is in a lovely neighborhood and the owner was very accommodating and friendly. The apartment is small but has everything needed. I would have loved to have stayed another week. I really loved this area. The only hiccup was an odd one - the door knobs on the doors are set very close to the edge of the doors and more than once I crushed my fingers between the jamb and the door pulling it shut. It hurt!

Left on 09/08/2010 for a stay in August 2010
I'll start with the main drawback of the apartment. I had not realized it is located on levels -1 and -2, so you have very little light. There are few windows, and the light hardly gets in. But we did not spend that much time in the apartment, so that was more discomfort than a real issue.
Now the positives. Julia (the owner) is very friendly and gave us excellent advice.
We wanted a place more central but booked late so we had to go for South End. The subway is really 5mn away, then 3 stops and you're downtown. It was much more accessible than expected. The neighborhood offers everything you need (restaurants, take-away, laundry, grocery, playgrounds for the kids...).
We were lucky enough to be there during school holidays. So we were able to park just in front of the apartment for free, instead of the $30+ expected per day. -

From the first enquiry, Julia was extremely helpful, and could not have provided more information than she did. And it just got better from there: when we were there she was so helpful. We perhaps thought it was small when we first arrived (for the first 2 minutes), but in actual fact it was perfect for my husband and I. The important things were great: the bed was comfortable, the shower good, the stove worked well (maybe that was my husband's cooking too!!), the fridge was a good size, the air con worked well, good having a fan in the bedroom, lights either side of the bed, good cupboard space for hanging (and lots of hangers) and a chest of drawers for the rest. Nice wine glasses and plates. All in all, excellent value and we would definitely return there if coming back to Boston. So happy were we, we bought Julia a bunch of flowers!

This apartment is advertised as having only a two-burner cooktop, microwave and toaster – no grill or oven. This description is also included in all reservation confirmations, so the guest was aware of the cooking accommodations before her arrival. We are sorry that one of the burners was not working and wish she had told us while she was here. We would have had it repaired immediately. We also would have restocked the liquid dish soap and will make sure to check the supply more frequently in the future.

There was information for local shopping and things which was also terrific. There are great restaurants and cafes within easy walking and you can also walk to most of Boston's attractions from there. Certainly far better than driving and parking. The owner is delightful. She had everything ready for us and was very interesting to talk to about the history of the building, etc.
The only drawbacks (and I feel the good so far outweighs the less than good that they need to be mentioned but the property is worth it) are parking (challenging but can be done) and the bathroom is small (everything you need but very "cosy"). I will certainly stay there again when I am in Boston and recommend it to anyone looking for a great place in a great location. -

Copley Square - all within a 5 to 10 minute walk.
Only negative was the property manager seemed to come by daily to 'check in'
and see how we were, but felt more like checking in to see how the property
was being kept. Overall would stay there again and recommend to friends.Response from Bed and Breakfast Associates Bay Colony - 05/03/2010

Owner
We're happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Just wanted to point out that the owner never enters any unit without permission. The only reason she checked in with this guest was because she had received a noise complaint from the unit below. This guest had brought her baby, which the host does not allow during the marathon, and the guests below complained about noise from the baby and toys on the floor.

Corvallis, ORLovely apartment in an ideal location

This apartment was just what we were looking for - a nice, clean place in a good neighborhood with lots of local charm. It was relatively close to the T (Back Bay Station), there were abundant local neighborhood shops and markets, the apartment was very clean and neat, the bed was very comfortable, and our hostess was genuinely concerned that our needs were met. This was the epitome of a home away from home.

Rochester, NYClose, Cozy and Comfortable

A well appointed, nicely kept apt within a downtown Boston townhouse. Owner greeted us at arrival and everything was as expected and quite nice. We were attending a conference at Hynes Ctr. and the apt was less than 10 minute walk away. Very nice neighborhood and conveniences are close by such as stores, restaurants, etc. The place was "cozy" for five people but that the owner accommodated a last minute change from 4 to 5 was outstanding. Definitely worth the cost. Short distance from train station too. I'd highly recommend this place or one of the other apts offered. just remember this is a "cozy" sized apt. and has all the amenities you'd need in a short-stay place. five stars to the owner and BnB Boston.

The owner was very accomodating - left a key so we could get in a bit early and on the last day let us leave our luggage on site at check out time so we could continue exploring until our plane left late in the day.
The apartment worked well for us. We had two college age women wih us. They slept on the futon in the living room while my hubby and I had the bedroom. We had acess to the apartment hallway via a locking door to our bedroom as well as through the livingroom. That meant the young women could stay out late and not disturbe us when they came in and we could leave early each day while they slept in.
It was an easy six blocks to the subway and there were lots of good local places to eat. We bought a 7 dy Charlie passs for each of us and we travelled far and wide in Boston without needing a car!! -

MAA wonderous Boston sojourn

The apt turned out as great as I'd hoped - super location, comfortable furnishings, cozy atmosphere. The owner is not only helpful, but also extremely thoughtful. I'll keep out the laborious details, but there was one day when my 74 year old father was going to be alone for several hours. The owner called him to make sure he had everything he needed and didn't need any assistance. I was impressed. My only "discomforts" w/the unit were the small size of the bathroom and the malfunctioning of one of the two stove burners. Otherwise, our stay was perfecto! Thanks - lg
