ChicagoThe perfect home in the perfect location
Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013
This historic home has gorgeous 18ft ceilings, large comfortable gathering rooms to relax in, great kitchen, roomy bedrooms and bathrooms. Decorated with eclectic objects from world travels makes your stay even more interesting. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, Boston Garden and Commons and easily accessible to everywhere by T. We had a terrific visit to Boston and this home played a big part in our memorable trip.

Lake Forest, ILAmazing experience
Left on 05/14/2013 for a stay in March 2013
I was very skeptacle of staying in a place sight unseen. We generally stay in nice hotels so we know what to expect. This time however, we would have needed 2-3 hotel rooms. Even though the price of $900 was steep and more than 2 hotels rooms maybe, we could not have had a place where we could all gather (and cook!). In fact, we would have had 3 kids and 4 adults all crowded into one 350 sq foot hotel room if we wanted to be together. Impossible. At this condo, we had the kids on a separate floor in a "kids" room with game boxes, a flatscreen with all channels possible and a large computer. That way, us adults sipped wine by the fire in a large room with the kitchen close by upstairs of this duplex. The location was the best ever! And the host, Karen, was out of this world. We had so many questions and she got back to us within seconds - everything from restaurant suggestions to day trip options. She is tireless. We texted her about a tablecloth and one was dropped off within a half hour, brand new. We figured it was a huge savings from a hotel because we bought snacks at the local market (instead of room service, mini bars and restaurants!) The best part was the actual condo space we had. If I ever come to Boston again, I would never stay in a hotel again!!

Eagan, MnSuperb Location for Large Group Near Newbury/Boylston/Marathon F
Left on 04/29/2013 for a stay in April 2013
On would be hard-pressed to find a better, quiet location for this marathon. The 5K runs right by the door (Sunday race) and the marathon turns off of Commonwealth at about where the apartment is located, with the finish 1/2 mi at most away. Its location is superb in that it is a 5 min walk from the subway, has a convenience store around the corner with a good selection of beers and a Trader Joe 3/4 blocks away, not to mention every type of restaurant you'd want. The property itself is cavernous and unusual in the bedrooms are in the basement of this 2 story condo (with a convenient back door). The kitchen is nicely appointed and the showers are solid. But best of all, Karen takes care of everything from coffee, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and even an apple laptop; and when your stay is done, you just leave without having to mess with any silly cleanup rules. And if you need something, she seems more than happy to cater to your needs - like turning on the TV with that overly complicated remote control :).

SingaporeMy family and I had a truly wonderful stay at this lovely apartm
Left on 08/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012
If I lived in Boston, it would be right here. The apartment was stylish, welcoming and spacious. It was spotlessly clean; had comfortable beds, a huge washing machine and a dryer; and had a brilliant kitchen, with every electrical appliance and gadget one would ever need. Karen was ever so helpful and approachable during our time in Boston - I can't believe we were so fortunate to meet her and stay at her lovely apartment.
The apartment was situated in a safe and quiet locale, yet was extremely close to restaurants, grocery shops, department stores, and transportation. My son was attending summer school at Berklee, and the school building was barely a five-minute walk away. My parents (in their late 70s) found it very convenient to walk to the T (the subway) which was only two streets away. Fenway Park (the baseball stadium) was not too far to walk to either. A stroll over the Massachusetts ave bridge to MIT took about 20 minutes (1.5km). If not in the mood for walking, we could easily phone for a taxicab to arrive at the apartment's front door.
We stayed a fortnight and this was more a home than just an apartment. The street level rooms were right out of an interior design magazine, and the sleeping areas downstairs were cool and comfortable. Everyone felt at ease and had their own space (and telly!). When we were home, my dad sat in the living room, by the bay windows, reading the newspaper and watching joggers go by; my son was in his room downstairs listening to music; my mum was happy watching television or reading in the family room; and I was preparing home-cooked meals in a beautiful, fully-stocked kitchen.
On arriving into Boston, we stayed for one night at a reputable hotel (I had confused my dates and did not want to be a bother to Karen). Hands down, Karen's apartment definitely topped the said hotel, with its amazing location, elegant appearance, and practicality. I would definitely recommend this fantastic residence to anyone visiting Boston.

Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We would wholeheartedly recommend Karen's fantastic condo!! It was truly a home away from home and made what could have been a really exhausting trip a super easy and relaxing stay for all of us, including our 2 year old and our elderly parents. Karen was very responsive and helpful and we couldn't have asked for a better hostess. The condo was clean, beautifully decorated and comfortable and was in a great location for us as the bus to Cambridge was just around the corner, not to mention the restaurants, shops and supermarkets nearby. I don't remember enjoying Boston this much in the past but by the end of our trip I wanted to stay a few more days. Thanks Karen!!

There is absolutely not one thing I would change about our family's visit to Boston to celebrate one graduation and two engagements. Especially -- especially -- our accommodations. The owner of this hip yet comfortable townhouse was more helpful than any hotel concierge ever could be. The decor, artwork and furnishings were sophisticated but not "off-limits". All amenities were top shelf. Towels tremendous! Everything spotless. Sound system, TV, all you could ever need or want. And on top of all that, it was extremely quiet. We will all never forget the amazing visit we had, thanks to this extraordinary accommodation. I just feel bad about not replacing those two beautiful candles we burned.

This home is perfect! From the moment you step in you feel comfortable. We had 6 people and it was just great. The home is beautiful and Karen has done a wonderful job with the decor. We had most of our meals at the home and it was very easy to entertain a large group as there was plenty of room and the kitchen was well stocked.
The location couldn't be better. This part of Commonwealth avenue is beautiful and centrally located to just about everything. One day we went to the Red Sox game and it was just a short walk away. There is not one thing we would change from this experience. -

Our group stayed here for the Ncaa basketball tournaments. What a wonderful place. Karen is fantastic. She had everything ready and set up for us. It was just perfect, elegant, and very clean. We have never met her before, yet after 10 minutes we felt like family. She opened her beautiful home to us and we truely appreciated staying here. Its the place to stay in boston and beats any hotel hands down. Thanks Karen for making our stay the very best it could be. Boston was wonderful thanks to you. We will be back.

We were 5 guys staying for just two nights.
The location is great as you can walk to Boston, although it is a half-hour walk approx, it is nice as you walk through parks and nice streets.
The living rooms are big and nicely lighted. It is very enjoyable.
The bed area is more suited for two couples and some kids because there are two big beds and three single beds. But we were there for two days, so it was fine for us.
The owner are very kind and make sure that you have everything you need.
I would go back if I go to Boston as a group. -

Fort Myers, FLBest Place to Stay in Boston for the Money
Left on 01/06/2012 for a stay in October 2011
I cannot say enough about this place. We weren't sure what to expect when looking for rentals online, and honestly were a little hesitant about the whole process, but this rental could not have been more perfect for us. Karen was so easy to work with and made us feel right at home.
I traveled with my wife and her parents. My whole family is very particular about where we stay. We wanted somewhere safe, clean, and pretty big so we wouldn't be right on top of each other the whole trip. This condo offered all of that to us.
Once we arrived within 2 miles of these place we knew we would like it. This may be the nicest part of the entire city other than Beacon Hill. If you have been to Boston before you know what I am talking about. Back Bay is incredible and this part of Commonwealth is right in the middle of it all.
The condo is a street away from Boylston, Newbury, and an amazingly beautiful bridge heading over the Charles Rivers toward Cambridge and MIT. Every morning and night people were running, biking, and walking. We loved the safe atmosphere and being so close to all the shops, eateries, and activities.
The rental itself was clean, huge, and inviting. My mother in law is a photographer and could not get enough pictures of it. The condo is so well decorated and so amazingly nice that you can't help but want to extend your stay.
We were nervous about doing our first online rental, but would do it again in a heartbeat. You will not be disappointed. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. -

Left on 12/29/2011 for a stay in December 2011
From the moment we first contacted Karen we found her to be very pleasant and helpful in even the smallest of details.
Her condo is quite spectacular and was large enough for our extended family to all stay there. We enjoyed the ambience especially the high ceilings, tasteful furnishings and the fireplace were great on those chillier nights. It's convenient to all the great restaurants on Newbury st. and the subway but is situated in a quaint, peaceful & quiet area on commonwealth ave.
We usually stayed at the Fairmont Copley Square hotel when we travel to Boston but we found staying at this condo much nicer and we hope to be back soon.

it was year to be in charge of our location and lodging plans. after spending several months looking at hotels, B&Bs; and home rentals I found this one and it seemed perfect. we wanted something that would be walking distance to everything ..Boston Gardens, shops, Freedom Trail and Fenway Park and we wanted something that felt Boston ..not just a motel. We got it all at at Back Bay. the historic home is spacious...we each had our own bedroom.
We

The location and the apartment could not have been better. This is truly a beautiful condo and we loved staying there.
The four bedrooms are all very comfortable and the living areas were amazing. Location on Commonwealth Ave was fab with the wonderful Newbury Street just one one block away. Karen made everything very easy and we would definitely come back here if we return to Boston. -

The best place we have ever rented - the apartment is stunning, perfectly arranged with everything you could need during your vacation (except an electric kettle!?) :-)
Three generations of our family were travelling together and we all loved it.
The location is just fabulous, easy walking distance to everything you will want to see.
A real home from home (or maybe even better!).

Cedar Falls, IABeautiful brownstone stay...
Left on 10/14/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We recently had the privilege of staying in Karen's beautiful Back Bay brownstone and really enjoyed the experience. The decor is ecclectic and charming, the kind of place that you enjoying wandering around with a cup of coffee. The neighborhood is just as charming as you imagine and has many great restaurants, shops and amenities within a short distance. And, the transportation was very manageable (I took the Harvard bus to the square each morning with only a short walk to the stop...)
I would recommend this condo highly for large/extended family stays like ours. It was a pleasure to stay with her (but that shouldn't surprise anyone, Karen's a fellow Iowan :-) -

San DiegoThe Best of Boston
Left on 04/25/2011 for a stay in April 2011
I could use all 2000 characters to rave about Karen and her beautiful Back Bay home, but none of it may still do her any justice. My family stayed at the house over Boston Marathon/Patriots Day weekend, and we could not have found a better place.
First, Karen is delightful and gracious. She's a dream to work with.
Second, her place is immaculate. Very charming. Great decor--each room has a different character. We had seven people staying there and we were all ecstatic with the house. (The beds are a little soft for my personal taste, but everyone else was cozy and comfortable as they could be.) The kitchen is awesome--we cooked or stayed in two of the four nights we were there. Her neighbors are friendly. All in all it's really quite perfect.
The location is amazing. Right in the heart of the Back Bay. Close to Newbury St, Fenway, Boylston, etc. and anything you may want to see, and a quick cab or T trip to anything else you want to check out. Quick to grocery, pub, etc. You name it, it's close.
All in all we couldn't have been luckier to stumble upon Karen's home. Next time we run Boston we'll be staying here for sure. Thanks again Karen, and to anyone thinking of booking---do it. You'll love it.

New York City, NYWhat a find
Left on 03/11/2011 for a stay in February 2011
Having traveled all over the world, I've experienced all sorts of accommodations. With a trip to Boston on recent vacation plans, I did a great deal of research on lodging with Back Bay being my preference. I feel extremely lucky to have found Karen Steven's Back Bay brownstone vacation home. Simply put, I was ecstatic to be staying in such a lovely quintessential Back Bay home that could have easily been featured in Elle Decor magazine. Karen's unique decorator's sense of combining both style and comfort made it a perfect place to launch each day of my Boston adventures. I'm looking forward to another visit soon. I'd say the best find in all Boston!! One additional note, beyond the beautiful accommodations, Karen's superb personal attention to questions, needs, etc, is hard to find when away from home. If you're heading to Beantown anytime soon, I'd make getting a reservation at her place top of my list

We felt SO lucky finding this place -- it's a gem! The apartment is a perfect combination of elegance, charm, and cool (it could be a photo spread!) AND it's located in the center of everything -- the heart of historical Boston. We were there over the holidays, but would come back in a heartbeat over the summer!
