The Barnes Mansion: 1,100sf Lux 2BR in Back Bay Boston, Massachusetts
Additional Location Information
The Back Bay is one of the two best known "high-end" neighborhoods in Boston. Just writing that sounds pretentious, but it is otherwise hard to get across a feel for it. The place is a few blocks from Newbury St which is known for its boutiques and its cross street is Marlborough which has really pretty gas lamps and brownstones buildings for its length.
It's about a 5 minutes walk to the Hynes Convention Center T stop on the green line, a 2 minute walk to the #1 Bus line and a 5 minute walk to Kenmore Station with more buses. Though it is a reasonable walk to much you may want to do in Boston.

Perfectly located for the green line in Kenmore square, and it is situated in a gorgeous mansion building. The owner is fantastic and met me with the keys, and left a very detailed document explaining how to use the TV, Chromecast (for streaming movies from Netflix), and free telephone to us numbers. The kitchen is brand new and has a tea kettle (which I need because I'm British), the living room is spacious, the shower in the bathroom is powerful, the bed in the master bedroom is so comfy and there is even a washer and dryer to get all your clothes clean before you return home. I genuinely loved staying here and would recommend it as a much better alternative to a hotel - even if there's just one of you, but especially if you are 2 or more!

My husband, daughter and I visited Boston for a week this summer. This was the first time that we stayed in a property that was not a brand name hotel. Our experience was delightful! The condo was charming, clean, and in the best part of the city. At the end of a long day of touring, we relaxed in a spacious "home" environment. The Barnes Mansion is walking distance to the finest dining, shopping, pubs, and more. The only negative was that are stay was too short!

I tried unsuccessfully, over two days, to book and pay for the above apartment. The problem was that flipkey could not process the credit card payment. We established that the fault lay with flipkey and I ended up dealing with the owner direct. The flipkey staff were very helpful and tried repeatedly to sort the problem

I was considering a move to Boston, so getting to try out the Back Bay before deciding where to live was very helpful. I don't really have many short-term rentals to compare it to, but it easily beats a hotel room and certainly exceeded all my expectations.
The place is was very modern and clean with all the comforts of home. It was much larger than I expected and just plain huge relative to a hotel suite and includes a washer, dryer and full kitchen in the unit.
Neighborhood: I was already half sure that this is where I wanted to be, so this was really as expected. It is on one end of the Back Bay on Marlborough Street. I really loved the street with all the gas lamps on it.
It is "garden level" which I knew about beforehand, so it wasn't a surprise. This means that it is kind of in-between a basement and a first floor apartment. It has big windows, but you are kind of looking up at people on the sidewalk. A bit strange, but no big deal for me.
It doesn't have parking. This wasn't a surprise either, but, of course, parking would have been nice. I ended up not taking my car, so it wasn't really an issue for me, but it could be for some. Within the city, you don't need a car at all. It is more of a hassle than anything. It would be nice to have one for the weekends if you wanted to get out of town, however, say to head skiing or hiking or something. I did see some zipcars out behind the building so if you are a member of that, you'd be all set.
