Description from the owner

Welcome to a 200 year old antique house in the heart of Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood. This small house has a very comfortable charm while incorporating modern conveniences. Previous owners from the very earliest years opened their home to boarders and we continue the tradition to allow guests the fun of staying in such an historic location.

one of our best rentals ever

Left on 10/22/2012 for a stay in October 2012

My wife and I have rented a number of places over the past 8 years but none beat this property for location, cleanliness, comfort, good organization and visual appeal. Paul is an easy person to work with and makes sure all the bases are covered. We will be back!

      Lovely Historical House

Left on 09/24/2012 for a stay in September 2012

We have stayed in The Federal Rose three times now and have enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. This historical house has been restored with loving care. From the hardwood floors to the art on the walls, it is an aesthetic pleasure. The kitchen is good for cooks (gas stove, quality cookware) and the house is comfortable throughout. You cannot beat the location. Paul, the owner, is super. Really, it is rather perfect.

A great place to stay in the heart of Beacon Hill

Left on 09/07/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Our family of four enjoyed our week-long stay in The Federal Rose. The house is situated in a unique location in the heart of Beacon Hill, literally across an alley from the Museum of african american History and it is an easy walk to Boston Common, the train to Cambridge, and the Boston aquarium. Whole Foods is literally a three minute walk down the hill.

This old house is clearly a labour of love for the owners. They share their collection of cookbooks, small space design books and travel guides with guests. It certainly was a lovely fit for us. Having access to laundry was very helpful with two small girls.

The gourmet kitchen, dining room, living room, and fabulous roof deck are the highlights of this home. The second floor bedroom we stayed in was comfortable, and there was plenty of room in the second bedroom for our daughters' cribs. (I understand the owner is in the process of renovating this room to accommodate more guests.) The central air conditioning was wonderful in the midst of the Boston heat wave in early august. Our only caveat for those who have high expectations, (and this was minor), was the cold water pressure in the second floor bathroom, but given the age of the house and the quality of the owner's renovations, I am sure this issue will be addressed in time.

If you are looking for a character property to rent for unique Boston vacation experience, I highly recommend working with Paul. He offers helpful instructions and recommendations, and he was prompt to respond to questions and to process payments. I will refer friends and family traveling to Boston to Paul in the future.

      The Best Boston Digs

Left on 01/18/2012 for a stay in November 2011

I stayed in this Beacon hill home for six weeks this past fall/winter. What a delight! The house is a clean, cozy and extremely charming 2 BR house with tons of historical ambience while at the same time delivering modern conveniences, such as a remodeled bathroom and gourmet kitchen, and laundry in the basement. The living area and bedrooms were comfortable and well-appointed. The neighborhood is the best aspect, however. Beacon Hill is amazing, and you will feel cultured and erudite just walking the streets. Charles Street is a short walk away -- it has great restaurants, shops, speciality groceres, salons, etc. Even closer to the house is a Whole Foods and a wonderful gym. It's a short but steep walk to Boston Common and downtown. You can't go wrong by renting this property. I fell in love with it and never wanted to leave.
