I stayed on Lilypad for two and half months during the winter and loved it. The boat is small, but the design is efficient, so I never felt cramped. The bed is comfortable, the kitchen is ample for preparing simple meals, and there's even a cozy living room space and small guest sleeping cabin (not for the claustrophobic!). There's also DirecTV and a reasonably strong wireless internet connection.
It took me a few days to get used to the gentle swaying, but I loved falling asleep to the sound of waves against the hull and waking up to the squawking of seagulls. The boat is conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from Hanover St., the main drag of Boston's historic North End neighborhood. There are lots of great bakeries and coffee shops nearby, as well as a few of the city's best restaurants, from the original Regina Pizza to Neptune Oyster.
The only downside to my experience, besides the fact that I ultimately had to move out, was the occasional cold. The provided space heaters were good, but they couldn't always overcome the 45-degree ocean water just feet below the floor. I guess that's to be expected on a boat in the middle of winter, and wearing a jacket or wrapping up in a blanket usually did the trick. The boat's caretaker, JJ, and handyman (forget his name) were friendly, responsive, and helpful on the couple of occasions when I had an issue (power outage and clogged kitchen drain).
Overall, I highly recommend staying here, and I'm sure it's even better, though also more expensive, when the weather is warm. I'm trying to figure out just how I can live on a houseboat again! Read more
Response from SleepAfloat Boat and Houseboat Rentals - 09/17/2013
Thanks so much for the review! We enjoyed having you this past winter. Those exceptionally cold days we had last winter actually caused us to make the decision to take the boat out of the water this winter. We will now only be running it as a 3 season rental. We hope we can get you back on board during one of the warmer months.....or in one of our warm weather cities!
Quiet and Convenient.

We loved the location of the Lily Pad. It is in the perfect location within walking distance to all of downtown Boston. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it is on the harbor. We couldn't hear traffic or the subway. Jj was very helpful in answering all of our questions when we arrived. We will be back in October.

We had a delist full time on the Lilypad. Best sleep I ever had with the rocking of the boat. We were close to public transportation. It's is a stellar spot to stay in Boston.
