Maple RidgeDoesn't get much better than an in-suite massage to the sound of
Left on 04/28/2013 for a stay in April 2013
I picked your cottage after an extensive online search to surprise my wife with a weekend getaway. We both loved it! It offered the relaxing setting we both wanted, so conveniently close to home (we're from Maple Ridge). There's just something about having to take a ferry somewhere, leaving you feeling like you're a world away.
Although I had no problem driving down the gravel road, my wife wasn't very comfortable with it, so we walked it for the rest of our stay. Your neighbour saw us walking up the hill with suitcases in hand upon checkout, and offered to drive us up, but we respectfully declined because the exercise was a welcome change to our sedentary lives.
I scheduled in-suite massages with Genevieve from Still Waters, and they were absolutely amazing! She setup the table in the living room, and had back to back, one hour massages to the sound of crashing waves below. Would definitely recommend this to anyone staying here, or anywhere else on Bowen Island.
Had dinner at Tuscany's one night, and Left Bank the next. Both were very good restaurants, and we would recommend them. Reservations recommended.
The suite itself was well appointed. There were other guests staying downstairs, and on occasion, we could hear their conversations. The floors of this cottage are a bit squeaky, which I think adds to its warmth and charm, but I was concerned how much of that noise they could hear downstairs given I could hear them. I know the cottage has been recently soundproofed, and given the configuration of these units, I fully expected it would not be 100% soundproof.
The bed was very comfortable, and my only real 'complaint', if you can even call it that, is it would have been nice to have a larger mattress. They are Doubles, and we're used to a King, so a Queen size bed would have been preferred. This would not detract us from going back though.
Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay here, and plan on going back soon. Jan, thanks for everything!

“WE LOVED IT!†That is music to our ears. We work very hard to provide our guests the best authentic 1970’s cottage getaway experience that we can. And to think this remote waterfront cabin is only a 20 minute ferry ride from the city.
We agree, GENEVIEVE OF STILL WATERS MASSAGE does give a very relaxing treatment…… Your recommendation that other guests schedule a massage with Genevieve is so wise. It is truly a tranquil & rejuvenating experience with G’s magic hands and the crashing waves in the background. In addition, Genevieve loves giving treatments at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway as our environment recharges her soul as well.
As you are aware, our 35 year old cottage has been upgraded with extensive soundproofing between the main cottage and the ground floor suite which has provided a 300% improvement. We are glad to hear that the voices were “only occasional†and that you did not expect 100% silence. We have found that base toned male voices sometimes can be heard as a muffled sound but we certainly would not be able to know the details of their conversation. We hope this was true for you as well. Because of our soft pine floors upstairs we do ask that our guests kick off their hard soled shoes and slip on their flip flops or slippers. This helps to minimize the foot fall noise and it also protects our reclaimed soft wood pine floors……..a nice casual cottage decorating touch.
“COMFORTABLE BED.†……..that is an endorsement others will appreciate knowing. One correction on the size.........all of our beds are QUEEN SIZE BEDS which probably do feel small if you are used to a King size. When it is time to purchase a new mattress we may consider upgrading to a king size. The bedroom is certainly large enough to handle a larger size.
Thank you for all of your input. We strive to achieve The Ritz experience but are joyful to hear that we have provided a very RELAXING, COMFORTABLE, AUTHENTIC COTTAGE GETAWAY WEEKEND for you and your wife. So glad that you will be our guests again and we look forward to having you.

Scott, We are so pleased that your entire family enjoyed the Lazy Bowen Hideaway. The fact that your children took their time to each write a review in our guest book was just the best of reviews. I loved Kendra's quote of "...if we knew how this cottage was we never would have gone to Whistler." Right from the heart!! We look forward to hosting you and your family again in the future. Thank you so much for your kind words and the great sunrise photos. You have captured the beauty of the Lazy Bowen Hideaway. Jan

Left on 07/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012
If you're looking for a great escape think about coming to the Lazy Bowen, on Bowen Island. This cottage is a special true cottage, rustic, but nicely appointed. We were located within minutes from the Village/ferry terminal and Cate's Bay/Hood Point, which make nice day trips. The shuttle bus comes right down Eaglecliff Rd. if you don't bring a car.
We dined at many of the local restaurants where everyone was really friendly. On the weekends check out the market. Local eats and crafts. It's a great spot for families with kids. There's a nice playground at the local school, a good quality kids book and toy store(in case you have have to pass time in wet weather), as well as a good grocery store.
From the property the views are amazing! The beach offers just enough space for beach combing, exploring and jumping off the dock from the diving board or slide. -

We were allowed to bring our dog with was wonderful too. You can walk to the Ferry, restaurants and straight into the forest trails that leads to a lake.

We are so glad that you enjoyed our waterfront cottage with our updated 70's influenced, professionally designed interior, making it a one of a kind cottage. We have only one correction and that is we don't have a piano.....BUT we do have an efficient kitchen, large comfortable living room with a wood burning fireplace and a spectacular southerly waterfont view......perfect for year round bookings.

VancouverFabulous escape from the city
Left on 04/11/2011 for a stay in April 2011
Just got back from a weekend away at the Lazy B Petite Suite (the smaller suite for up to 4 people). The accommodation was very well presented, modern and clean, with views over the water towards mainland Vancouver and Cypress Mountain. The accommodation is studio style with a double bed at one end of the cottage and sofa bed in the living room/kitchen area. There's a great balcony overlooking the sea, and cute little garden. The public access pebble beach is less than a minute away (great for skimming stones!) and the main town area of Snug Cove is an easy 3km walk or car ride away.
Only thing to note is the toilet facilities. The septic tank can't take loo roll, so this needs to be placed in a bin next to the loo instead of being flushed. Not a problem for our group, but if this weirds you out at all, then at least you're warned!Response from Jan Stevens - 03/28/2013

So glad you enjoyed yourselves.Just a wee bit of correction.......the bed is a queen size bed with the upgraded full size sleeper sofa in the living room area. Thank you for appreciating my little garden. Hope you will come back and visit again.
RESPONSE UPDATE - MARCH 21, 2013
We have updated our washroom rules now that we have found an AWD Septic Pumper truck. Our guests can flush their toilet tissue down into the septic. Toilet tissue only of course!!! This is a change that we all welcome. -

My boyfriend & I went to this cottage because we really needed to get away & relax. We had planned on staying 2 nights & loved it so much we decided to stay a third. It was perfect; a short ferry ride from Vancouver, a short distance from the ferry on Bowen to the cottage, the kitchen was fully equipped, there was even shampoo/conditioner & body wash in the bathroom. All we needed to bring was food. The atmosphere was so calm & quiet we didnt want to leave.

We had a lovely long weekend at the Petite Suite. The property is charming and the lower suite is gorgeous. It's spacious, bright and cheerful. The view is awesome. We toured around the island and did some walking, shopping and sat on a quaint beach and took some great photos. We enjoyed cooking and listening to great music while soaking up the charm and the sunshine at the Petite Suite. We would love to go back again! Thank you Jan! Your place is really really fantastic! VancouverThe best place to be when it's raining outside.
Left on 08/25/2010 for a stay in April 2010
Being a native westcoast gal I'm accustomed to rain 8 months out of the year-that could be a slight exaggeration but you get the picture... I've never been so happy to be stuck indoors when it's raining as I was staying at the Lazy Bowen. The sounds that echo throughout the cottage lull you into a sloth like slumber. The smell of the ocean, firewood and pine fill the rooms. My beloved and I made a nest of pillows and blankets beside the real wood burning fireplace and stayed there pretty much all weekend. The cottage instantly feels like home and all you need to bring is some slippers, a robe and lots of food to gorge on. We stumbled upon a rather interesting book titled Farwell to the King. It's a wonderful book that had us entertained with tales about, 'the days of high adventure.' This place is magic and I can't wait to go back.

Rob & I would like to thank Jan Stevens at Lazy Bowen Island Getaway for a lovely, long-weekend vacation. Jan was very cordial & completely thorough; she was dilligent in getting us all the required information to make our stay safe & enjoyable. Lazy Bowen Island is a quick ferry ride from Vancouver 15-20 min. We followed Jan's instructions to the waterfront property & used a 4-wheel drive to get to house. It is a 2-bedroom, (secluded) & well-maintained & preserved (historical),vacation home. The home offers waterfront decks, BBQ, & fireplace for a homey feel; it also has a large flat screen TV for rainy days/nights. Had a lovely time; slept well (comfy bed); had BBQ one night & went to Blue Eyed Mary's for dinner the next night. We golfed Saturday afternoon at the Bowen Island Golf Club; we had a very lovely & relaxing time. Thanks Jan. Happy Travels, Rob & Janet

Our stay at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway was amazing. Even though it was a quick trip for us to get there, it truly felt like we were a million miles away. We are already making plans to go back.

This was a VERY pleasant surprise! We had originally booked a B&B, but not what we were looking for. Jan, the owner although absent, was extremely helpful. The access road down is very steep, but well worth it! We stayed upstairs in the 2 bedroom, watched the ferries and tug boats on the sunny deck and spent the remainder of the evening in front of the wood-burning fireplace. Very spacious with soaring cedar ceilings. Huge windows all around to take advantage of the spectacular views of the bay! We have already recommended it to family and friends and hope to return. The Lazy Bowen definitely made it a great weekend. Kathy G.

My large party of 12 had a fantastic time at Jan Stevens waterfront property and all of us would love to recommend this property to anybody looking to stay on Bowen Island.
The cabin was charming, comfortable to be point of melting on couches in spur of the moment naps as it happened to my friend who showed up, sat down on the couch, stared at the water and proceeded to drift off into the most peaceful sleep for 3 hours!, well furnished, complete with full amenties and well stocked kitchen with all* supplies, extra blankets, cozy fireplace, beautiful waterfront views, pretty much everything you could want and more. The top floor was quirky and retro, to complete your experience there was amazing Hawaiian cassettes you could throw on for a truly twilight experience. Downstairs was more updated, nice clean layout. All beds were comfortable and everything was clean and well organized. There was endless porches to lie on and easy access to the beach. Jan and her manager proved themselves to be very friendly, thoughtful and dedicated to making sure our experience on Bowen Island was complete.
Due to the new renovations of the suite downstairs, the hot water ended up not working in the bathroom. Jan went out of her way by refunding us part of our stay.
I was totally satsified with our stay and everybody in our party want to come back at some point in the future and have recommend this proprty to their friends and family. -

We just returned from a wonderful visit to Lazy Bowen Hideaway. Our plan was to decompress after a busy Christmas season. Wow! I wish we could have stayed longer. The color scheme, antiques, furniture arrangement, as well as the lighting and ample warm throw blankets made every corner comfortable. We curled up with a stack of good books (and I had plenty of opportunities to try out my new camera... what a view!) We shall return!

Lisa and I stayed at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway for a couple of days this past September. It was the most peaceful and relaxing vacation we have had to date. The beachfront cottage was clean and inviting, and the views were absolutely spectacular! We spent the entire time sipping tea and gazing out of the picture windows that span the entire back of the house. The sound of the tide lapping up on the beach, and the fresh, clean air was just what the doctor ordered. If serenity is what you're looking for, we would highly recommend visiting Bowen Island and the Lazy Bowen Hideaway. Make it a point to visit the Memorial Garden, and walk the trails near Snug Cove...they're heavenly!!

Sometimes we just need to get away from it all but we don't want to spend an entire day to get there. We initially booked a week at Lazy Bowen but loved it so much, we extended our stay. The cottage has an authenticity that's hard to find - when it comes to beach cottages, this is the real thing. I loved the details - the interior colors are a perfect match for the greens and blues of the sky and ocean beyond the deck. Even the dish towels were shades of turquoise. After a few days, the rooms felt like our own. The next time I'm feeling burnt out, I will be heading back. We had many favorite things - having a cocktail on the deck in the evening and watching the boats - or walking a very short distance to the dock for our morning swim - and getting to meet all the neighbors.
