Allow yourself the time to indulge and enjoy the fullness of what fresh, expertly-made chocolate offers in The Chocolate Suite on Bowen Island. Breathe deeply and relax in a setting that's both relaxing and seductive for a romantic weekend, a solitary retreat or just a simple, well earned indulgence. This distinctive “Bed & Chocolate” features fresh organic truffles made by Bowen Island's own Cocoa West Chocolatier next door. Included with your stay are a selection of organic chocolates and choice of Cocoa West's specialty hot chocolates or European-style coffees to enjoy in the café, or delivered to the Suite.

The Chocol...ate Suite's interior is modern, calm and sensual, with a spacious twelve-foot ceiling. Designed using a palette of deep chocolate and exotic wood tones offset by fresh ivory and vibrant red. The Suite's clean lines are complemented by rich teak, textured carpet and silk pillows. The Queen bed is made with gently textured cotton linens with generous down-alternative pillows, both firm and soft. A single bed is available for an extra person. Features include a small dining nook, sitting area and a beautifully appointed private bathroom, with a rain-head shower and natural pebble floor, heated tiles and a vessel sink to complete the luxurious feel. While a light breakfast is provided, guests may use the Suite's small fridge for keeping any additional food, drinks or snacks. A kettle, tea and coffee are provided in-suite, but there are no cooking facilities. Other features: flat-screen TV with DVD player (no cable), wireless internet access, telephone, ipod-compatible clock-radio, picnic kit and beach towels.

The Chocolate Suite and Cocoa West Chocolatier are located in Artisan Square, just up the rise from Snug Cove, the island's historic centre. The Suite is on the ground floor, just around the corner from Cocoa West and has its own private entrance and bathroom. Artisan Square is a small creative residential and commercial village with shops, galleries, studios and cafés, a spa and a gym, so it can be bustling during the day; after 6pm it's generally very quiet. It's easy to get to walking trails and other natural attractions, shops and galleries from here. A mountain-bike park and kayak rentals are available for the active and adventurous. Public transit bus service is synchronized to the arrival of ferries at Snug Cove dock, with two routes across the island. Access to Crippen Park and many beaches is easy by a 10-15 minute walk or by bus.

Bowen Island, one of British Columbia's Gulf Islands, is a short twenty-minute ferry ride from the BC Ferries terminal in Horseshoe Bay. Easy access to and from Metro Vancouver by bus or car, with direct walk-on water taxi service from Granville Island.   For solo travellers and couples, I highly recommend staying at the Chocolate Suite.
  
  It has all the comforts you could ask for: a very comfortable bed, fluffy pillows, rain shower, flat-screen TV, a nice collection of books and Dvds, local maps and info, bar fridge and wi-fi. The suite was uncluttered and clean, also had some much-appreciated little extras: organic toiletries, a large box of Cocoa West's organic chocolates (yum!), juice, water, coffee, tea and trail bars. And the daily hot chocolate from the Cocoa West shop was such a treat.
  
  The location was great, a few steps away from the cafes and shops of artisan Square, and it's a short walk to the island's walking tracks, restaurants and wharf.
  
  The owners Joanne and Carlos were so friendly and hospitable - thank you for a very relaxing and indulgent break!

  I didn't enjoy this property as much as I had hoped I would, considering the rave reviews it received from other travellers. Although the room is beautifully appointed, for me, its size would not merit calling it a "suite." It is basically the same size as a small hotel room with a tiny bathroom. Also, since I was a solo traveller without a car, the room's location in artisan Square was a bit inconvenient. There is only one restaurant in the Square which closed at 5 p.m. Most amenities are in Snug Cove, so visitors without cars should be prepared for a half hour round trip walk on a steep trail or a 45 minute walk on the road to get to restaurants. Although the website mentions a light breakfast is served, I was only given coffee or hot chocolate, for which I had to ask each morning. Hospitality was non-existent, although to be fair, the owners were away when I visited so maybe this accounted for the general lack of friendliness I experienced while I was there. I thought the per night rate of $150 was excessive. I visited another property while on Bowen Island, Evergreen Hall, which was a 5-10 minute walk from Snug Cove. It had a suite for the same price but which was more than double the size of the Chocolate Suite, had a kitchenette, a huge bathroom, and a balcony with a view of the ocean. Also, this property offered continental breakfast, or a cooked breakfast for stays of 3 nights or more. I know where I'll be staying next time I visit Bowen Island...

  After moving from London to France I have travelled through some of the most beautiful places in the world. This suite definitely does not let our expectations down. We loved it! It had a rich beautiful decor that gave you an immediate sense of calm and sensuality at the same time. The location is also perfect. Your door steps out onto artisan square which has all of the amenities that one would need. It is a very cool little square, like out of a movie. The owners were also very accommodating and nice. But, the chocolate was a serious highlight of the whole experience. Coming from a city that has some of the best quality food,pastries and deserts I can highly recommend it. The hot chocolate was delicious!!!

  Delicious Bed and Chocolate Destination

  Think exquisite Belgian chocolate sea star - hollowed out and filled with
  sublime sweets like Bombay Truffles and Sea Salt Caramels - perched on
  top of a bed swathed in luxurious, chocolate-inspired linens and pillows.
  
  This is how my friend and I were greeted when we arrived at The Chocolate
  Suite - a cozy and discreet accommodation run beautifully by chocolatier
  Joanne Mogridge and her husband Carlos Vela-Martinez.
  
  The concept is original. The destination, Bowen Island - just a hop skip and
  jump from Vancouver - is classic West Coast. No need to drive once you've
  settled in. Lots of great shopping, art galleries and restos in surrounding
  area. As well as lovely hikes through ancient rainforests and along romantic
  beaches crowded with driftwood.
  
  Must admit, I returned home with my first chocolate hangover ever. If you
  go, be sure to enjoy one of the couple's trademark hot chocolates at their
  neighbouring Organic Chocolate Cafe. Spicy and surprising. Of course, a
  late-night chocolate pate caps this cocoa bean-inspired sleepover
