Brief Description: Located 13 miles south of Bozeman on the shoulder of Wheeler mountain, the Blackmore guesthouse offers a quiet setting on the border of the Gallatin National Forest. Families and small groups looking for an affordable home with gorgeous views of Cottonwood Canyon find that this guesthouse is a comfortable base for family activities, either on-site or througho...ut the Bozeman and Yellowstone region. Blackmore is the largest of 6 guesthouses that, along with a lodge, comprise the 20 acre Mountain Top Retreat center. It is about 2 miles from the Woodlands wedding venue.

Although conveniently close to the dining, shopping, and other amenities that Bozeman has to offer, this house offers beautiful mountain and canyon views in a rural setting. Because it borders a large national forest that stretches all the way to Yellowstone National Park, deer are more common than cars. You might see a moose, fox or even a bear by day, or the Milky Way stretching across the sky by night. The faint background noise you hear isn't distant traffic, it's the creek at the bottom of Cottonwood Canyon, about a half mile away.

But, secluded doesn't mean isolated. Satellite TV and free WiFi are available in the lodge, and an on-site laundry facility is open throughout the summer months. There is generally someone available on-site to help you get settled in, answer your questions, or direct you to the best fishing spots, restaurants, and attractions.

Living room: The living room, which looks out over Cottonwood Canyon, is furnished with a couch and several easy chairs. It is stocked with books and games, and more may be borrowed from the lodge library if desired.

Kitchen & Dining area: Blackmore’s kitchen is well equipped with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, and enough cookware, plates, and tableware to serve a full complement of guests. In addition, we can often make specialty items (e.g. pancake griddle, heavy duty mixer, etc...) available with prior notice. The dining area is arranged to serve six, but extra folding tables and chairs are available to accommodate 14 or more guests.

Outdoor Amenities: The kitchen dining area opens out to a large deck with views of Cottonwood Canyon. Charcoal grills are available for barbecuing. Volleyball and horseshoe pits are available in the summer. A private trail leaves directly from the property to access infrequently used parts of Gallatin National Forest; a public trail starts about 2 ½ miles from your door and climbs up the canyon, crossing Cottonwood Creek a number of times along the way. A fire pit and firewood are available for guest use unless fire restrictions are in place in the adjacent national forest. Laundry facilities (2 washers & 2 dryers) are available on-site. Excellent fishing on the Gallatin river, or along Hyalite creek, is a 10 minute drive away. The Blackmore guesthouse at Mountain Top Retreat is roughly equidistant from the Lone Mountain and Bridger Bowl ski areas; either is about 45 minutes away.

Lodge: Satellite television and free WiFi are available in the lodge. The upper level of the lodge, which includes the library and deck, is open to all guests. The large conference room and kitchen in the lower part of the lodge may be reserved for a fee.

Rental restrictions: Blackmore (and the rest of Mountain Top Retreat) is a non-smoking facility, and pets are not allowed. Minimum stay is 2 nights. Our staff make sure your guesthouse is thoroughly cleaned before you arrive; however, they do not clean your guesthouse during your stay.

Additional Location Information

The Blackmore guesthouse is one of six guesthouses that, along with the lodge, make up the twenty acre Mountain Top Retreat center. Guests enjoy the views looking out across Cottonwood Canyon and up toward Wheeler Mountain and the general quiet of the rural surroundings. People generally come to Bozeman to see Yellowstone National Park or to pursue the various outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, biking, rafting, wildlife spotting, etc...) that have made the area famous. What stands out about our location is that we are 15 minutes from Bozeman's amenities, and yet there is a corridor of forested mountains stretching, uninterrupted by a paved road, from your door step all the way to Yellowstone National Park.
