We had a very pleasant stay at the Ennis Cottage. The warm welcome we felt with Ron and his help getting around in and near Branford made us feel home and looking forward to living in Branford for a year. We loved the cosy cottage, which is a perfect wellkept place. The fabulous shoreline, beautiful area, houses and openess of the people in Branford make it a great place to be.

Our stay at Ennis Cottage was perfect, we could not have wished for nicer accommodation. Ron and Bernie were very welcoming and the cottage had everything we needed for our stay. We have a ten month old baby and they very helpfully lent us a highchair which made things much easier. We were also able to borrow toys for the beach which our baby had a wonderful time playing with. The private back garden with garden furniture was lovely to relax in at the end of a busy day. The location of the property is excellent with many attractions within an hours drive - more than we could possibly have visited within one week. There is a very helpful welcome book which includes everything to do in the surrounding area, which saved us from spending hours searching for things to do. We could happily have spent the week on the private beach using the row boat! Oh, and the bed was super comfy!!

My wife and 6-year-old son and I needed a weekend getaway by the sea with nearby family attractions. We had a lovely weekend (early season) at Ennis Cottage;
Ron and Bernie were great hosts. The place is immaculate and cozy and they seem to have thought of every detail. Cooking large meals could be a challenge, but with many nice restaurants in the area, why bother? There is a front yard big enough to thro a ball and a private enough back yard with bbq and table. And it's just across from beach.
We made day trips to Old Lyme and Mystic (a bit of a haul, but easy on I-95), and also discovered the (free) British art Museum at Yale. All in all a restful weekend. There is even a commuter rail link to New Haven - a perfect spot if you have "business" there.Response from Ron Hekeler - 05/08/2012

We were pleased that Mark and family enjoyed our little cottage by the sea. We worked hard to make it a perfect getaway spot and love it when people appreciate the details. Now, if we could just get planning permission to add on a chef's kitchen, another bedroom or two and a larger bath, ....;)

What a great opportunity and location to spend time with my sister. Having moved to the mid-west several years prior, she couldn't wait to get back to Connecticut and the beach. The Branford shore, was the perfect treat.

If you are looking for a small, cozy cottage in the Branford, Connecticut area, this cottage is just that. We have stayed at the Ennis cottage for one week in June for several years in a row. Our group totals three adults, as we bring along our adult daughter. We find the Ennis cottage so much more homey than a motel would be. We love the location of the cottage which allows us to visit relatives and friends in the New Haven, North Haven, and Hamden areas. This small cottage is pleasantly decorated, neat, and clean. The well appointed, kitchen area allows us to eat relaxing breakfasts and lunches there, whenever we prefer. We choose to eat dinners out, since we are on vacation. The beach is just a short walk away and provides a very restful spot to read a book, sunbathe, etc. There are pleasant walks to take, and there are many other activities within short driving distances in the local area to choose from. The Hekeler's are wonderful landlords, ready to accommodate any needs that come up during the stay. We hope to be able to return for many more years.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay for a week while we attended our son's graduation from Yale.The cottage was everything the owner had advertised - cosy, charming, and above all immaculately clean. Being 50 feet from the ocean was icing on the cake. We have already contracted to return to the Ennis Cottage for two weeks this summer and plan to explore the Connecticut shoreline and have some more great seafood at the wonderful restaurants that were recommended by the owner last year.
The owners, a retired university professor and his charrming wife, were extremely hospitable and checked in with us on a number of occassions to make sure we had everything we needed and were completely satisfied.

My wife found this location online and booked a week for just the two of us.We had the following week booked on the Cape with our adult daughters, I hadn't vacationed on the CT Sound since I was a child. Short story: we had the most unexpedly wonderful time!
Ron and Bernie Hekeler are most accomodating and genuinely nice people and were very responsive to our needs.
We initially stayed there prior to the renovations. But the remodel gave it an updated feel to match the experience.
Lovely cottage with immediate access to the beach and very nice walking tours as well as local restaurants.
You won't be disappointed.
