GlasgowAn idyllic island escape
Left on 07/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We very much enjoyed our stay in Keepers Cottage at the start of July 2012. It was the first time that my partner and I and our 4 kids had travelled up to Skye and Scalpay, and the kids loved the boat crossing, finding it very exciting!
We received a warm welcome from Veronica and Michael, who were always very kind and helpful. The kids enjoyed crab fishng, spotting the otters swimming by the cottage, paddling in the sea and exploring the island. They particularly enjoyed an afternoon of garden golf with Veronica and a tour of the amazing garden at Scalpay House.
My partner and I loved our evenings by the fire on the beach, so peaceful and relaxing to watch the sun set, have a glass of wine and take in the wonderful scenery.
I would recommend a stay in Scalpay for any families like ours, who want to explore the beauty of Scotland and avoid the usual commercially driven holiday park type break. Scalpay is a place where the kids can just be kids, they can explore, have adventures, and experience new things.
The accommodation was also excellent. Very clean, comfortable and spacious. -

Just returned from another blissful week on Scalpay in the Keepers cottage. The weather was exceptionally kind which made it even more idyllic. The cottage has been tastefully modernised and is perfectly equipped for a large family.
The wildlife was amazing, this time we were fortunate to see a mother otter and her two cubs swim by the front door on 3 occasions. Whilst hovering overhead were magnificent eagles on the coast the seals and their pups basked on the rocks in the sunshine. As early risers we saw the red deer on several occasions before they returned to the tops.
The abundance of sea life kept the children (aged 2 and 4) entertained for hours. We found eating crabs, hermit crabs, sea urchins, sea anemones, fish and eels.
If you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the 21st century with deadlines and clock watching then Scalpay is the place to visit.
You can do as much or as little as you choose.
So perfect was our holiday we will return in 5 weeks.

We would like to thank Michael and Veronica for enabling us to stay at the Keepers Cottage, we could not fault the experience. The cottage was very homely with all comforts available and we had a very relaxing time of it. Excellent views, hill walking and widlife all around. I can thoroughly recommend a stay in Scalpay as a down to earth get away from it all.
