What Past Guests Are Saying
A Haven at Sea. Can't Wait to Go Back!!!
We have stayed there twice. There are really no words to describe the feeling we got when we walked in the living room. All you see is the ocean. It's a panoramic view. You'd have to be on a boat to be any closer to the water. There is a nice, sandy beach right there. I remember sitting in the sparkling clean hot tub gazing out at the ocean without a care in the world while my husband barbecued on the beautiful deck. There is a fully-equipped kitchen, too. What I think I love most about this place is that you can just bask in the sun and the beauty of it all, or you can explore and dine and hike and play. There is no more beautiful place this side of heaven. We have two more trips booked in the next few months. We highly recommend this great oasis. Marcia is very friendly and efficient. I know there are no worries.

Wow! what a dream vaction. My wife & I have been
"retreating" every Dec for 15 yrs in the Brookings area.
We have passed these cabins & said "we'll have to ck them out some day". Well we did & have found our home away from home. Cozy cabin, full kitchen, hot tub +++ = Heaven.
Marcia was very professional to deal with & we enjoyed the decor, one could tell right off this home is loved and well maintained.
Ocean,Ocean,Ocean ! @ high tide we felt we were soaking in the tub on the stern of a luxury liner.
This place exceeded our expectations!!! Marcia has the place equiped with everything you could ever need. Since we cooked every evening, it was a pleasure to have the kitchen so well stocked.
The views are amazing!!! Pictures cannot do them justice. Can't imagine anyone being diappointed!

Great Couple Getaway
The cabin was a great getaway for two. We never used the upstairs bedroom but the deck and hot tub were perfect for watching sunsets, drinking wine and listening to the ocean. It was fully equipped for cooking, watching TV or just relaxing with views to the ocean. Easy access to the beach for walks. Even though there were neighbors on both sides, it never felt like we didn't have our privacy. The owners were always in communication and very friendly and helpful.

Thanks for taking time to post a review on the Ancient Mariner cabin. We really enjoy staying there ourselves and always like to hear how others have enjoyed themselves. We never miss a sunset and like the hot tub to relax in and enjoy the sound of the surf below. Hope you can come again and book early so you get the dates you want.

Family of four favorite
This location is incredible...right on the water. It was such a blessing to wake up each morning with a view of the water and rocks below and fall asleep each night to the crashing of waves along the seashore. It was also great to be able to sit in the jacuzzi on the deck while looking out over the The owners had the place stocked well Pacific. Located just 0.5 miles from the Oregon border and about 15 miles north of Crescent City it is far enough away to allow you to feel "on vacation", but close enough to things which might be needed. We have already recommended this place to friends and if were to ever visit the area again we would stay here. Owners have the place pretty well stocked.
There are no words to describe this special haven in the sun.
How do you describe the place you've only seen before in your dreams? There are no words. When you walk in the door all you see is the ocean. You forget you're not on a ship for a moment. As far as you can see to the left and the right is a gorgeous, uncrowded beach. We saw whales and an otter. We spent hours in the sparkling clean hot tub on the deck that isn't more than 15 feet from the surf. We barbecued on that deck, and played many board games. We laughed, we talked, we played in the sun.
This place has all the comforts of home, the owners are really friendly and helpful. While we were still there for the long weekend, we called and made reservations for another long weekend next month. This is our little haven in the sun. We will be returning again and again. Highly recommend.

Words hardly describe the beauty, sparkling ocean right in your face, how close you are to the beach, how relaxing it can be and how much we and our guests enjoy this special getaway. Come see for yourself what an amazing place this is!
Wow! While still on the road, Marcia called to inform us of a minor problem that they were already fixing, but slightly impacted our stay. She called back with updates and didn't try to hide anything - she really wanted it perfect for us - how many places have you stayed that ever treated you like that?! Wow really is the first thing that came out of our mouths when we walked in! We already had high hopes as we have never seen reviews that are all so positive, you can never please everyone, but this place seems to do it. This stay was my husband, my 7 year old son and myself. The cabin is perfect for a smaller group, equipped with anything and everything you need except food and drink. Stocked kitchen, grill and everything you need on the deck including the hot tub, toiletries if you forgot any, board games, tv's, dvd/vhs players and movies, radios for music, etc. (Even candles!) We came prepared to end our long road trip with groceries and beverages, so no need to head right back out - except to the beach for the boy and the deck for the beautiful sunset. We ventured out both days, south to Crescent City and the aquarium - small but perfect and not crowded on a weekday, north to Gold Beach, Harris Beach and Brookings - all within approximately 30 minutes. It rained and hailed, but no need to let it stop your fun, we still hiked around and used the hot tub. We stayed 3 nights and by the time we returned home, there was a beautiful handwritten note including an apology and a lovely message to us for our anniversary (I mentionted this to Marcia when she called us). We see this as being our new annual vacation getaway spot! There is so much to do in the area and it is so beautiful we are already planning future trips. We can't thank Tim and Marcia enough for sharing this treasure with us!! Wow!
A beautiful and relaxing getaway!
Our family of four spent the weekend at this perfect little cabin on the beach. You couldn't ask for a better view and location, it was amazing! Our kids loved the cute loft. The cabin was clean and conveniently stocked with all the necessities. We would certainly go back!
breathing view. wonderful escape
I can't believe how amazing this place is... A stone throw away from the ocean, you can't get closer! The hot tub is awesome and the grill was nice, the view is breathtakingly beautiful! I can't wait to go back! The only sad part was leaving. Thank you for sharing your lil piece of paradise.
Excellent vacation rental
Beautiful ocean view! Cozy home entirely. Kids love the loft the most!
I would really like to write how horrible this place is - if only for the simple selfish reason that no one else will want to stay here! But, this place is nothing less than breath taking!
The previous reviews are spot on, with literally 15 feet from the back deck to the crashing Pacific Ocean. Marcia was very gracious in answering questions (that were already listed somewhere else!) and very helpful with local markets, etc. We (4 adults) stayed 3 nights and could not have had a better time. We drove into Oregon one day for a short visit, but mostly remained close to home. We explored the beautiful probably mile-long beach (except for the cow that had washed up - yes, cow!) The sunsets were nothing short of a postcard and the house was fully equipped with everything we could have ever needed. Do yourself a favor, if you are looking for a quiet, romantic, out of the way place to go for a couple nights - rent this place. You will not be disappointed. We mostly cooked in house not venturing out much for local restaurants - and the house was perfectly stocked - a little looking and everything was found with no problem. The fireplace was a nice touch. Just a note about the upstairs - it is about 4 feet tall. Now, if a couple rents this place, they probably wouldn't even need to go upstairs. Once there, the beds were comfortable, nice breeze/sounds from the ocean. The stairs are nothing less than deadly (just know that in case you or anyone in your party have mobility issues) but can be manipulated with very slow, careful steps. Kids (teenagers) would love this space!!! I can't stress how great this place is. I will definitely be back, and someone I know has already booked some time there. Thanks for everything!

We enjoy sharing our ocean front paradise with others. Come see for yourself how close it is to the ocean, relax, enjoy, sightsee...You're invited to come for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, or vacation with family or friends. Two nights or a couple weeks is never long enough to see and do everything in this area or just to relax and enjoy the ever changing ocean view. Owners, Tim & Marcia
Amazing Coastal Getaway
Tim and Marcia's ancient Mariner is an amazing coastal getaway. Situated on a short bluff overlooking the beach, and at the front of an arc of properties, the cabin has an unobstructed 180-degree view of the ocean. The deck features a hot tub with privacy guaranteed by a tall side wall. The deck also holds a gas grill that we didn't use.
Just off the deck is a small entry space with electric fireplace. We stayed from late November to early December and used the fireplace a lot, sometimes just for the ambiance. This entry space also has a rocking chair, plenty of coat hooks by the front door, and a box of current magazines.
One step up from the entryway is a great room that includes living, dining, and kitchen spaces. The living room has very comfortable furniture (recliner, ottoman, and loveseat) and the western wall is all windows. The dining nook is sweet, backed by a cabinet with every bit of serving and tableware we could ask for. The kitchen is equally well-equipped, with fridge, dishwasher, gas range and oven, and plenty of pots and pans, utensils, coffee maker, hand mixer, and toaster. We love to cook and looked forward to making our meals at the cabin. The kitchen was perfect for the two of us, with one person working in the kitchen proper and the other working on the living room side of the open countertop.
Down a short hall from the kitchen is the bathroom. Behind the bathroom is the master bedroom, featuring a new king bed, large closet, and ceiling fan. Good blinds and curtains made for very restful sleep. Across from the bathroom are the stairs to the loft bedroom with two twin beds, perfect for children.
Tim and Marcia made reserving and getting to the property a cinch. Staying at ancient Mariner feels like staying at a friend's place -- very comfortable and well-maintained. We want to make this an annual stay!
