Perth, WAThe best Place to Stay!
Left on 04/18/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We arrived on a cold Sunday evening to find Shirley waiting for us. Well, what an amazing apartment! Perfect for our family of 4, including our 2 boys aged 5 & 6. The amenities of the apartment were more than adequate for us. The location fantastic! Close to a wonderful local bakery (pastries to die for) and a supermarket with all your needs. A short trip to Manhattan on the subway, which our boys loved, and very easy to navigate after a few go's :-) We thoroughly enjoyed our 5 nights at Shirley's lovely apartment and cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you!

I stayed in Shirley's lovely place for 6 days in March 2013 and my friend and I, we both just loved it. The place is very tastefully decorated and contains a well equipped kitchen as well as a cosy living/ sitting area. Coming home after a long- day of sightseeing, this place provides you with the right environment to recharge in!

Perth, Western AustraliaExcellent!!! We didn't want to leave!
Left on 02/01/2013 for a stay in January 2013
My wife and I recently enjoyed this gorgeous apartment for three weeks and at the end of our stay, we didn't want to leave! It was everything that we had hoped and more.
It is clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. A fantastic blend of the old (wrought iron features, antique wood panelling, exposed brick, etc) and the new (modern appliances, renovated bathroom and kitchen, light dimmers etc). The cupboards were well stocked with surplus bathroom and pantry sundries and the kitchen is fully equipped.
The apartment was such a delightful home base to retreat to after long rather cold days out exploring Brooklyn and Manhattan. Always warm and quiet and as a result, both my wife and I enjoyed many a restful nights sleep. Magic :)
We also loved the neighbourhood and found many great places to eat and drink. Our highlights are Urban Vintage Cafe (around the corner) and Brooklyn Public House (Dekleb st) .sooo good!
Many thanks to Shirley and Liam, wonderful hosts who did everything needed to ensure that we enjoyed our stay as much as possible.
In short, this place is very highly recommended!!! -

York UKExcellent apartment in Brooklyn
Left on 12/19/2012 for a stay in December 2012
My daughter and I stayed here in the run up to Christmas and was not disappointed.
The apartment is very well equipped and the kitchen features a full gas oven/hob unit, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator.
Every room was clean and well maintained with plenty of towels in the spacious bathroom. The only improvement would have been more in the way of clothes storage space and a wardrobe (closet) for hanging items.
Despite being in a busy residential area the apartment was very quiet at night with just the occasional rumble of the nearby subway which was never intrusive.
As mentioned elsewhere, the owners are very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
There is an excellent deli on the corner of the block, literally within yards of the apartment and a well stocked supermarket opposite which even has a fresh fish counter.
Transport links to the heart of the city are easy thanks to the nearby subway. -

Left on 09/10/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This was our first time renting an apartment while on vacation, and we were not disappointed! The apartment was located in a lovely neighborhood, close to lots of great restaurants. The subway stations were a short walk away, and it didn't take long to get to Williamsburg or Manhattan. The apartment was well-stocked, clean, and comfortable. Our host was very friendly, and accommodated our late arrival and early departure. She was approachable and willing to answer any questions. Overall, our stay was excellent!

Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The owners were very helpful and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed for our stay, answered questions about transportation, directions etc etc sometimes more than once :) It is in a convenient location, near a grocery store, a market (called Choice Market- recommended) and to the G train. Nyc is a walking city and we definitely spent lots of time walking. We were tired at night upon our return to the apt. The apt was "our haven of rest", we slept well every night and were recharged for the next day. We would definitly stay there again!

While in town for a family wedding, we stayed for a week at the Beautiful Garden apartment in Clinton Hill and we couldn't be more pleased. The apartment was cool and comfortable during the hot summer weather we experienced. The bath, the kitchen - the entire apartment was well stocked with the basics, and was clean and surprisingly quiet. We enjoyed our morning coffee in the shade of the backyard (at least when our schedule allowed!) S. was a discreet but readily available host, who as a long time neighborhood resident, is a great resource for out-of-town visitors. We enjoyed the neighborhood as well as the easy access to mass transit for travel elsewhere. We highly recommend this Brooklyn Garden apartment for your stay!

The service we received was excellent from Shirley and Liam. The apartment was tastefully renovated and had all the comforts of home. It had a great outlook in a historically beautiful area. All the bars, restaurants, transport were within walking distance and we felt really lucky to have found this place. We will definitely be back here next time we come to Brooklyn! The only thing I didn't like about it was that we had to leave!

S and L's place was wonderful in every way! It is in a beautiful and safe neighborhood, close to the subway, and has an excellent breakfast and lunch spot on the same block. We were traveling as a couple and a younger sister and the space was perfectly laid out for us all to have the privacy we needed. S was very nice and communicative and accommodated both our very early check in and late check out. The apartment was nicely decorated and spotlessly clean with every amenity you will need for a perfect stay in NYC. We loved the backyard and hope to use it more on a future (hopefully warmer) stay. We definitely recommend this apartment!

I agree everything that Osky 77 wrote. I recomend this place sincearly. Some words in Finnish.
Asunnosta löytyi silitys mahdollisuudet, internet yhteys, fööni, kylpytakit, lautapelejä, kirjoja, lehtiä, New York tietoutta ym. Samassa korttelissa oli täydellinen kahvila Choice. Sen luomu tuotteet olivat suussasulavia ja koukuttavia. Taivaallinen kahvi oli paikallisen paahtimon omaa. Kahvilan ruoatkin olivat huippuja.

MelbourneBeauiful clean apartment, great launching pad to see New York
Left on 04/12/2012 for a stay in March 2012
The Clinton Hill apartment was perfect for me and my husband. We stayed for 10 nights and Shirley had everything set up for our arrival, even some soups in the fridge after our long flight from Melbourne, Australia. The apartment was spacious, clean, light & airy and in such a good location - only a 1 minute walk to the G line, and a 5 minute walk to the C line. The neighbourhood is really safe, quiet & nice so make sure you take the time to walk around and have a look. There is a great little strip of cafe's up on DeKalb ave, about a 5 min walk away, a supermarket about 1 minute walk, and the apartment is also within walking distance of Flatbush ave and Prospect Park (if you enjoy walking as much as I do). If a long walk is not your thing, then there is a bus 1 block away that will take you right into the heart of downtown Brooklyn and from there it is super easy to either walk or get the subway. We came back to the apartment from all over Manhattan and Brooklyn at all hours of the day, and were able to get "home" with ease.
Shirley was the perfect host, very accommodating and available to answer any queries we had.
If you want to see the "real" New York, away from Midtown and the craziness that can be Manhattan and experience NYC like a local then this apartment is the perfect launching pad to do it from!Response from Shirley Collins - 04/14/2012

We absolutely loved our stay at Shirley and Liam's place! It was very comfortable, very clean, and it had everything we needed including a well-equipped kitchen to prepare meals in. There is a supermarket across the street and the G line train is a short 5 min walk away. We could walk to Prospect park un under 30 mins. And, last but not least, our hosts were very welcoming and friendly! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Brooklyn. Highly recommended.

Everything we thought of was provided. There was also fresh fruit, milk, coffee, tea, soup, frozen fruit and eggs in the refrigerator. I am very familiar with the neighborhood and was thrilled to be able to stay in that neighborhood, at that price, and in these accommodations!
We arrived during a very cold weekend and I was concerned that the apartment would be chilly, but it surprising was warm and comfortable.
I will certainly return!

I stayed here with my 2-year-old daughter as well as my boyfriend, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Shirley was kind and accommodating. She even baby-proofed the house, which included some bumpers at the corners of the glass table!
Shirley checked in on us multiple times to make sure we were doing alright. She also left a great selection of maps and books about the city, including a book about seeing New York on a budget.
This place is located in a very nice part of Brooklyn complete with parks and restaurants within walking distance.
I would highly suggest this location. The price is totally reasonable, especially when compared to good hotel rooms in the same area. This is certainly the best way to stay in New York!Response from Shirley Collins - 02/18/2012

This was our first visit to New York. We will be back. The support and advice freely given by Shirley (and Liam) was very reassuring. On our early arrival they were there waiting and were incredibly welcoming. The apartment was warm, comfortable and generous in its proportions, space and facilities, which suited the three of us very well. The neighbourhood was clean, quiet and felt very safe and Brooklyn provided easy entry to Manhattan.
Great having the supermarket, the pastry/coffee shop and the subway station so very close to the apartment. But best of all was Shirley and Liam's caring and friendly hospitality. The booking was managed really efficiently; the deposit was returned through paypal the day of our departure. -

We had a great time at Shirley and Liam's apartment. They were very friendly and welcoming and made it clear that they would give us as little or as much help and direction as we wanted. They were flexible in the arrangments allowing us to let them know at short notice whether we would have additional guests to stay. They were very clear and concise in communication as well as being prompt. This lead to a simple transaction and no mis-communications. The aprtment itself is gorgeous with all you could need for a stay in New York / Brooklyn. There is ample space, a gorgeous living room with dining table and great kitchen with big oven and fridge / freezer. There were 4 of us staying in the apartment and there was plenty of space for this. Location wise the area of clinton hill / greenstone where the apartment is situated is fantastic and provides numerous great and resonably priced bars and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk. We spent a couple of nights locally including NYE where on Sheila's recomendation we took a walk down Vanderbilt aveue, stopped and various fab bars and watched the fireworks from Brooklyn park. If you wish to go further afileld, the subway provides easy transportation to other areas of Brooklyn such as Brooklyn Heights and Williamsburg as well as easily and quickly getting you into Manhattan. I really cant recomend the apartment or Shirley and Liam enough. Enjoy it as much as we did!!

I initially was a little early arriving but Shirley had no problem with me checking in early. She greeted me at the door, showed me around the apartment, shared some neighborhood hot spots and let me go on my way. Two great coffee shops right around the corner, serving awesome food. Can't say enough how centrally located this apartment was to Midtown, two stops from Dumbo, just a prime location all-around. It was like never leaving home, the apartment was immaculate, huge bedroom & bathroom, very comfortable bed and the kitchen was perfect for cooking! The apartment had a very cozy layout; everyone who came to visit me was so impressed with everything. I will be returning frequently to Brooklyn, and if possible will stay here 'every' time. They were such great hosts, good conversation, you feel like you've met good friends. Clinton Hill is by far the best neighborhood in Brooklyn, everyone was so friendly, and I ended up staying an extra week!

Left on 12/02/2011 for a stay in November 2011
This apartment was absolutely ideal for my friend and I visiting Brooklyn and NY for both business and pleasure. If anything, it was even better than the photographs implied. Everything spotless and extremely comfortable with excellent amenities. The additional availability of the back garden was brilliant (even in November) but in summer I should imagine a great bonus. The accommodation is ideal for two friends or a family because of the two separate sleeping areas (the bedroom was lovely) and the two bed couches in the living room were extremely comfortable. It was easy to get on the subway but we walked into different areas of Brooklyn and found it easy to navigate and safe but most of all the neighbourhood feel was great and the people we met very friendly and helpful! Best of all were the hosts - they were really lovely and welcoming (even though we arrived right in the middle of Thanksgiving) and nothing was too much trouble. My only regret that we were only there for three nights - next time (and there will be a next time) I am going to go with my husband and son and stay for a week!! Thank you Shirley & Liam for your great hospitality. Vivien & Madeline
