Description from the owner
Hollyhock House is a recently renovated 100 year old country cottage with great character! It has three bedrooms and two full baths. It is secluded from the street and neighborhood by mature cedars, spruce, birch and ash trees. The property is abundant with gorgeous herb, veggie, fruit and flower beds – more each year! The land slopes gently down from the road so the views from any part of the lawn and the sun porch is attractive and interesting. The cottage features brand new hardwood floors, new kitchen, and the new sun porch is large (14' x 14'). There is new paint throughout and a fold-out queen size couch for extra sleeping in the...Read more

Additional Location Information
Brooksville is surrounded by water, including Walker Pond (where you can swim in water that is surprisingly temperate), Bagaduce River (where you can walk, beach it, set in kayaks, and swim - if you like it brisk), and the Eggemoggin Reach (famous ocean sailing passage between Deer Isle and Blue Hill peninsula, including Brooksville). Although in summer you cannot see any other houses from the property, there are friendly neighbors who you might meet picking blueberries, opposite the house, or on a walk.

Had a wonderful stay at Hollyhock House. Spacious and comfortable. We had a peaceful and relaxing stay. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed the garden produce. It was in the fall so the fruit was ripe.
Beauty is everywhere and Hollyhock House was a great place to enjoy. -

My wife, our two standard poodles and I spent a delightful week at Virginia's wonderful farmhouse. The home was close to many attractions we wanted to visit on day trips and our dogs did fine in the back of our van in cool October weather. She had all the kitichen equipment including a large lobster pot that anyone would want to prepare meals. We only used one of the second floor bedrooms and it was very comfortable. On our first venture out, we found a local bakery at a farm and brought several loaves home to freeze and enjoy for some time after our visit.

These were the only pets the house has allowed. There is now a no pet policy. But see Hackmatack Farm in Brooklin on same web site for pet-friendly farmhouse in the area.

Austin, TxWe love being at this house in Maine

My wife and I have stayed at Hollyhock House for the past three summers and will be there again this summer. We love the house and the area. The house is comfortable, well maintained, well furnished and has a dishwasher, washer and dryer. There is a wonderful sun porch with big windows overlooking the back yard. The yard is large, has big trees, many flowering plants, vegetable gardens and lovely outdoor sitting areas. The neighborhood is quiet with considerate neighbors; the house is separated from the closest neighbors by wooded areas. Brooksville is a small town and is rural so one should not expect Disneyland. There are, however many interesting things to do and see within a short driving distance. There are many nearby outdoor activities available, such as hiking and swimming. Kayaking can also be arranged. One is never very far from the ocean here. Acadia NP is about an hour away. Brooksville has several very good restaurants and more are available in the nearby towns of Blue Hill and Stonington. Overall, the experience is very relaxing and a wonderful get-away from urban stress.
