We (myself and an Italian woman friend of mine) spent 4 nights at alena Villa, and we found the location perfect. It is outside the "old Bruges", and you need a walk of 15 minutes to reach it, which explains why the price is so convenient (55 Euros per night, or 60 during the weekend).
The place is nicely run by a lady (Alena) who is able to interact in several languages (we alternated with her English, Italian, Spanish and French in a humorous way), and who brings a very good breakfast every day at 8:30 (she came at 8 am the day we were leaving early, although we had not asked her to do that).
I don't think that there is access to the kitchen during the day (although we did not ask, as we did not need it).
The room we had was very spacious, with a private bathroom (also quite big, with a great shower). The house is in a very nice neighborhood, very quiet; we slept like kings.
It is also near (500 meters) the train station, which was convenient for us as we also visited other cities (I add that Gent and antwerp were very interesting, but every time we got back, we felt that nothing can beat Bruges).
By the way the train station is beautiful and safe; in fact we found that it is the best shortcut to get to/from the old city (in the morning and even late at night).
So, we give "Alena Villa" the full thumbs up. -

basic room which was a bit cold at night but the location was perfect (short walk to the tourist sigghts) and breakfast in the morning was very nice and served in our room.

Katrien is an obliging host, offering quiet and authentic rooms, away from the tourist area (I love the quietness). A short walk from the train station and the city center. You wake up and are served freshly baked bread in the room. The bike I used was included. Have to come back!
