Very Central and Spacious
Left on 04/23/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We loved the location of the house. So central to everything. Dinner around two corners was Ribs 'n Beer. Passage was great and only 10 minutes walk.
We took tours with Quasimodo (who picked us up on the main road within 5 -10 minutes walk). The town centre was close as well as supermarkets, laundry, bakery (which opened at 6.30am). We really didn't use the kitchen as we bought brekkie and ate out for dinner.
Catherine was fantastic to deal with. So easy via email and ask questions. Also having the ability to enter the house without a precise time to meet was great Checking out and getting back the security was easy also. We dropped the luggage off in the house and parked the car in the free parking area (10 minutes walk).
I will mention that the bedrooms and bathrooms were upstairs (which are steep) - but we knew this coming in.
The house was clean, warm and comfy (we also enjoyed the wifi).Response from Catherine - 04/26/2013

ukBruges was beautiful

We travelled to Bruges by car from the UK as a party of eight, two families of Mum, Dad and two children per family. Parking the car was about a fifteen minute walk away from the property, which as the weather was dry was not a problem. The house was very warm which was most welcome as the weather was literally freezing. The house itself is large with two bathrooms upstairs. You would need to walk through one of the double bedrooms to reach one of them, as a previous reviewer stated, lending itself well for a rental for two families. (not sure if it would be suitable for four couples though)
Joost & Catherine were very helpful and came quickly to our aid when we had a problem using the electric hob. (my fault as I use gas at home)
I have to say that the house could use a massive dose of TLC, the kitchen is very tired with cracked and chipped cups in the cupboard. We found a bag of potatoes in one cupboard which had obviously been there for quite some time. The whole place really needed a deep clean (thank goodness for the dishwasher) and a lick of paint. Having said that, the beds and bedding were clean. Unfortunately we also found mice upstairs, which we had to keep secret from the children or the mini break would have become a micro break!
The house is situated just a short stroll from the centre of Bruges and the Ribs and Beer restaurant is just around the corner (the best ribs I have ever tasted). There is plenty to see and do and we really did love the town.
Sending payment for the house rental was easy and the deposit was returned to us promptly upon our return to the UK. Despite the negatives stated above, we had a lovely time, but probably not return to this property.Response from Catherine - 04/20/2013

If you want to park the car for free it's 15 minutes walking. If you want to pay it's just around the corner, less than 5 minutes.

London, United KingdomLovely house, great location

The house was lovely, absolutely huge and very comfortable. We were a large group of adults and one toddler. The spacious and comfortable communal areas made it really easy to spend time as a group. The location is perfect - 5mins walk from the square so a really good base. The process of renting the house was very straight forward and the owners extremely helpful, very good value for money and the security deposit was returned quickly after the stay. One thing to note is that the triple bedroom and second bathroom are accessed through another bedroom - this wasn't a problem for us but might be for a different group.

Sydney, AustraliaLarge & Great Location
Left on 01/05/2013 for a stay in December 2012
My family and I travelled from australia to experience a European Christmas and stayed in the house for 2 weeks. There were 6 adults, 3 children and 1 baby. We found the house to be comfortable and large enough for all of us. We had many a home cooked meal and enjoyed sitting around the large dining room table. The owners Catherine and Joost were very helpful and very warm welcoming people. The house is situated very near the centre of Brugge and there is a laundry at just around the corner. This came in very handy at times. If there is one suggestion that I would make is that the kitchen could do with a few renovations but still keep that lovely warm family feel about it. I would recommend the house to large groups. Thank you Catherine and Joost for allowing us to stay.

We hired this place for a girls' weekend away - there were 7 of us.
Catherine, the owner, it very accommodating.
The place is clean and it is in a quiet street. the bedrooms are large and the living room, bathroom and kitchen facilities were great. So much better than staying in a hotel.
I would definitely recommend!Response from Catherine - 12/06/2012

PeterboroughBeautiful Bruges
Left on 11/25/2012 for a stay in November 2012
Bruges is a most beautifully preserved medieval city that can only be done justice by exploring on foot.
Catherine's house is in the most perfect position for doing this, right in the heart and just a short stroll from all the major sights. The house is old and adds to the authenticity of the experience, but has been completely renovated internally for extremely comfortable living. It is close to great restaurants, shops and bars, but has the advantage of being in a quiet street with very little traffic.
We are now planning our return visit.
Ps Whilst there, the BBC were starting to film a new 10 part epic costume drama, The White Queen, set in the 15th century and due for showing late 2013: look out for it.Response from Catherine - 11/25/2012

We stayed at Catherine's apartment in Brugge not long ago, and I must say that we were more than satisfied. The apartment is large with lots of room for several people. It's location is on a quiet street within a short walk to the central market. Catherine was a pleasure and was quick to respond when we had questions. I have stayed at many different locations over the past several years, and would place Catherine's apartment as one of the best. Johnny Burks, United States

Myself and 8 other friends, all aged between 30-40 stayed at Catherine's beautiful big house for a weekend to explore Bruges. We could not recommend it more! We all had such a fabulous time, and Catherine could not have been any more accommodating. It was clean, spacious, plenty of wardrobe space, super comfortable beds and excellently located. It has so much character and is a mix match of old and new. It's stylishly decorated too. The 5th bedroom was in the dining room attached to the kitchen with no door which we didn't like so some people shared upstairs. For families; this wouldn't be a problem at all. There a 2 good sized bathrooms both with lovely, hot showers. The stairs are very steep, so it might not be so suitable for somebody with mobility problems but we found them to be fine. All the linen was fresh, and towels were provided too. The bedrooms are all well sized, and the one at the front of the house is huge! Outside there is a seating area that is not overlooked by anyone (the house at the back is derelict). The kitchen was really well equipped and had a lot of the basics in there for us to use. For anything that wasn't there, there is a Carte Fore supermarket a 5-10 minute walk away where we stocked up on milk, eggs, bread etc. Before we arrived I worried that there may not be enough keys for everyone in our party to come and go as they please, but this was not a problem as access to the house is done via a code system into a computer that operates the door. Location wise, it's all pretty much all there on your doorstep! It takes less than 10 minutes to get to the main square where the Belfry Tower is situated, and everything branches off from there really depending on what direction you want to head in. The house itself is situated on a really quiet street. This house is highly recommended, and we will definitely be coming to stay again! We had a brilliant weekend. Thankyou Catherine for your hospitality!

Left on 02/13/2012 for a stay in February 2012
Bruges is a lovely city that is a must see for anyone heading to Belgium or Western Europe. Bruges is elevated because of the wonderful home we stayed in and the very gracious owners. We emailed Catherine the day before to see if it was available and she had responded within an hour. We were able to quickly get everything set up via email and we were in the house mid-day the following afternoon. The house is beautiful, huge and very well appointed. It is appropriate for large groups and for children. It is a few minute walk to the main square and right around the corner is the grocer, laundromat, nightshop...Ribs n beer (great restaurant) We fell in love with this home and extended our trip because of how much fun we were having and how comfortable we all were. I couldn't have imagined having nearly as wonderful an experience if we had stayed in a hotel. Catherine even drove us to a free parking spot and brought us back to the house. It was only a 3 minute walk, but she wanted to make sure I didn't get lost. If you are in Bruges, take advantage of this wonderful home!

The house was exactly as described, clean, tidy, inviting and close to everything. Really appreciated the owners meeting us on arrival, they were friendly and helpful. Like the towels with chocolates beside the bed (nice touch). Also with kids it was nice to have a list of emergency contact numbers on hand (even though we didn't need them) and also the nearest boulangerie, supermarket and doctor. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Brugge.
