Additional Location Information
If you've never been to Bruny Island before you are in for a treat. However, don't be tempted to think that you can see and enjoy everything this special part of Tasmania has to offer in a day or even two. Bruny is best savoured slowly ... dawn walks in the bush surrounded by a symphony of song. Dusk on a lonely beach. Exploring sheltered coves and just absolutely indulging yourself in the tranquility this island has to offer.
It's not all about relaxing. Adventure Bay and Cloudy Bay both offer fantastic surfing opportunities in the right conditions. Bruny also has some great locations for kayaking and mountain bike riding. Bring your boat and enjoy some of the best fishing in Tassie. There's over 300kms of roads on Bruny and some of them are 4WD only. Forestry Tasmania has several roads that run over the highlands in the south and are definitely worth traversing. Spectacular views towards Cloudy Bay are breathtaking on a clear dawn in Summer.
We discovered Bruny 25 years ago and, even all these years later, every time we disembark from the ferry at the terminal on the island we are immediately filled with a sense of peace and excitement. Even a weekend here leaves us feeling ready to face city life once more.
Bruny does have a tragic past and you may find places on the island where there is a deep sense of sadness. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this place and we try to walk and live here respecting their heritage and their passing.
Favourite things for us to do include evening walks on the beach at Two Tree Point, summer picnics at Cloudy Bay beach, reading the newspapers over a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast in the garden at Parnella.
Absolute essentials to bring include your camera and a pair of binoculars, good walking shoes, a warm jacket and a sense of adventure. Bruny has a lot to offer and adventure rewards the prepared.
Wherever you go on Bruny no matter what the time or the weather always carry a camera. It's hard to take bad pictures here and all too often we've experienced turning a corner to be presented with a breathtaking moment only to realise we left our camera at home.
If you're not into photography carry a sketchbook or even a notepad and pencil to capture the special moments you're bound to experience here.
Bruny is also rich with a culture of art. There is a wide range of artists living and working on the island. Try to seek them out - you're bound to find work that strikes a resonance with you.

Peaceful, cosy cottage in adventure Bay
Left on 04/07/2013 for a stay in March 2013
So glad I came across Parnella to stay for our time on Bruny Island!
Such a lovely cottage with:
an amazing spa bath,
very comfortable beds and the linen smelt so fresh, plenty of towels
very clean and comfortable,
loved the selection of books and Dvd's to use as well as the three fishing rods (not that we were able to catch any fish!),
very spacious with three toilets, two baths and a shower,
loved all the local wildlife that came to visit,
very quiet and peaceful location - we felt like we were at the edge of the world, not many cars and no big crowds,
beautiful beaches,
the general store a 1 minute car journey for everything you need
The list could go on!
We ate at Bruny Island Hotel (Hotel Bruny) both nights and were impressed with the food and service, nice view too. The Berry Farm is a must to visit and the Bruny Island 3 hour eco tour was great, luckily the sun was shining!
Would love to come back and visit again. -

Sydney, AustraliaWallabys abound in the peaceful grounds
Left on 03/26/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Lovely little cottage just outside the township of adventure Bay. Quiet location easy to find and very comfortable. Excellent bedding. We wanted to see the albino Wallabys and were so happy to see them grazing around the cottage in the mornings. They are a little timid but we were able to get quite close to them. Also enjoyed watching the various native birds. An excellent choice for us. My only quibble is that it would be great to have a few cooking staples in the pantry, eg olive oil, vinegar etc as it is hard to travel with those sorts of items.

Owner
Hi. Thanks for your review and we're really pleased you enjoyed your stay. Your point about the lack of items such as cooking oils and other condiments is acknowledged. We have trialled leaving a mixed range of these items in the past with mixed success as it's impossible to know exactly what people's preferences are. Additionally many people are not keen to use items that have been opened by previous guests for food safety reasons. If we have to keep replacing fresh items for every set of guests we would have to add at least another $15.00 - $20.00 to our tariff. As the cottage is promoted as self catered we probably won't be stocking the larder. However, we will research the viability of offering a "mini bar" of such items for guests to purchase from. Again, many thanks for your comments ... your feedback is really appreciated.

The cottage made our stay on Bruny. Very comfortable, well appointed, in a great position and lovely garden with wallabies and sheep looking on! Gorgeous bedlinen and well appointed kitchen. You can buy provisions at the store and with delicious Bruny Island cheese, Get Shucked oysters and local Bruny Pinot noir, who needs restaurants? Lots of walks and adventure Bay beach is very pretty.

located in adventure Bay, Parnella was a great place to get away and get into 'island mode'. The facilities are excellent, with all the comforts of home. Adventure Bay beach is good for a long walk or the spa is nice relax in. Its not the cheapest place to stay.

HobartBruny Island Bliss!
Left on 08/20/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I love Bruny Island and found that Parnella is the perfect place to stay when on the island. I visited with a friend from Sydney & her 2 little girls. The cottage was just right for us - plenty of room, confortable beds, everything you need and so beautifully appointed. We all loved the sheep and we think they loved us too! As soon as you walk out the door they wander over to the gate for a scratch and a feed.
Parnella is also perfectly located - just set back from the beach at adventure Bay amongst the paddocks and the trees. We saw plenty of wildlife grazing in the paddocks of a morning, the mist rising above the trees and the tiny finches visiting the garden. It is all so peaceful...if only we could have stayed longer.
There is plenty to do on Bruny Island and a weekend is just not long enough - you should stay at least 3 or 4 nights to truly relax and enjoy Parnella.
On the way to Parnella be sure to pick up your supplies - stop at Pasha's at Kettering for Turkish bread and dips, the Bruny Island Smokehouse for charcouterie, the cheese farm for some of Nick Haddows specialties and the oyster farm. This will set you up - also visit the Pub it's a great place for lunch or dinner.
So explore by day, relax at night and you'll think you are heaven! I'll be back again and will definitely stay longer.
Thank you for making Parnella so welcoming.
