Boston USAGreat Birthday Surprise!
Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in February 2013
I surprised my wife with three nights at this lovely property, she thought we were staying somewhere much smaller and non descript. She was so pleased. The children had a lovely time too. The house is very large and great for 6 people. It's so big you never feel like you are on top of each other. We had some nice mild weather. The views from the house immediately as you enter the front door are beautiful. What a vista! Well located and good access to a small shop to get all your amenities and a short stroll to the only Hotel on the Island for dinner or lunch, we did both and the food was good. We are from the States and had traveled many miles before turning up on Bruny Island. It was lovely to arrive to a big modern home with everything you would need to have a very pleasant stay. We loved the house design, so simple yet so well put together. Was nice to light the fire, sample some local wines and do a spot of cooking. The kitchen is so well equipped, it was a real delight to cook in it. Thank you Brianna for the bottle of Bream Creek, you were right it was great! and for being such a lovely host throughout. Who knows if we are ever down under again we will look you up! Highly recommend.

Left on 05/12/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We are a group of five friends and stayed here due to the recommendation from my son and his wife, who said that Sunset Bay was just fantastic and we tend to agree.
From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel at home - they say it is the first impression that is the important one. And our first impression was a very happy one...The view immediately takes your breath away. The main entertaining area was big and really impressive. This level of quality carried through to the bedrooms and bathrooms. It was great the house had two full bathrooms and a third toilet.
The beds were all really comfortable. The thing we loved about the house was the light. Even on a grey day it was beautifully light, airy and lovely to cook, read and relax in. The provisions in the pantry were great, and really generous. One suggestion is perhaps an option of providing low fat milk too!
I can only hope that they you are not booked up when I plan my next visit from Sydney during Easter next year.Response from Brianna Bell - 05/12/2013

Jenny thanks for the great review and for doing it so quickly! We are so pleased you had a such a great stay. I agree with the house and it being so light. It is pretty awesome isn't it? Good idea about the low fat milk option......:)
Love to see you back next Easter.....lets talk offline and lock in some dates for you all. Thank Emily and Roger for the recommendation. You have all been a delight to deal with! Many thanks. Brianna and Darrel. -

New ZealandAs good as the first time!
Left on 05/11/2013 for a stay in April 2013
This was our second trip to Sunset Bay and it was truly lovely - again! This time we stayed four nights instead of two as there is so much to see on the Island. This time we weren't blessed with gorgeous weather but really who cares...the fire was roaring, the wind was howling outside, the rain pouring down. The views are so splendid that we lost hours relaxing and taking it all in. Kitchen is well stocked with every utensil and tool you need. Good to see the owners took up our last suggestion and now supply a wider range of tea and general pantry provisions. We noted down the hot chocolate you supply - just divine! Its always interesting when you return to a property for the second time as you wonder if your expectations will be met again. I am delighted that they were and with confidence we will continue to recommend your home to friends and family back in New Zealand and australia. Thank you.

Gloria it was so wonderful to see you return again. All your wonderful suggestions about our provisions last time were great and yes we certainly took them on board. Thanks for leaving the lovely note for our Cleaner and thanking her for popping the bottle of wine in the fridge for you. We hope the trip back to New Zealand was a safe and pleasant one. Thank your lovely husband for recommending the holiday house to us in Marlborough. We plan on making the trip when we finish our current project in Vanuatu next year. All the very best. Regards Brianna

ACTNot quite as expected
Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Yes the view as you enter the house, which looks great itself from the outside, certainly gives it a wow factor. But minor things did take the sheen off the initial delight. While the bedroom arrangement may suit families it is not good for two couples travelling together. The second couple has to pay an additional $120 per night (for what??) and the accommodation for them is a small bedroom with a view, but no bathroom, or a back bedroom looking at the neighbours but with an ensuite. While your mates have a massive bedroom and en suite at the other end of the house.
The Welcome basket was not very welcoming at all - some dry crackers, kisses chocolates, tea and coffee. And we found the place very superficially cleaned - streak marks everywhere - certainly not up to our normal home standards. The dishwasher appeared stuck on the rinse cycle, the dryer did not dry clothes despite going through all the right motions. And I would describe the linen as adequate - certainly not luxurious.
Oh and watch your feet - we found a small scorpion in the back ensuite.
It might have rated 4 stars for value at a lower price but at $420 a night it's only averageResponse from Brianna Bell - 05/12/2013

Thank you for your comments Mr Toller. It certainly has taken us by surprise as you can see from all our other reviews and our Guest Book Comments our guests love our home. What I would like to do is pass comment in response to yours. At no time do we depict all bedrooms at equal size. It is made very clear on all marketing material that the Master Bedroom is a far superior size room to the additional two bedrooms. (the additional bedrooms and bathrooms are all good size and stated clearly on the website). In fact I state on our website that the Master is some 37 square metres alone. Throughout all our travels worldwide we have certainly never experienced a bedroom this size in equal part for the price we charge for a high end property. Many couples have stayed in the house and have never had any problems. Apologies if your assumptions on size was incorrect. The house overall is very large and perfect for two or three couples to share. Mr Toller I recall your stay of 4 Adults at a cost of $105 per person per night. For a property of our quality we are often told it is more than reasonable. The dryer is a mystery to me. In fact it is only 6 weeks old and our cleaner uses it regularly. It is fully inverted and cost a significant amount. Cleanliness is certainly a surprise. Allison our wonderful Cleaner takes great pride in the house. Perhaps the streak marks on the surfaces were through an inferior cleaning product. I will check into this so this does not happen again. Our cleanliness comments have always been 5 star. Again the dishwasher is a mystery. We have had it checked by our Caretaker and he said it works perfectly normal. I beg to differ on the linen. It is all commercial hotel quality and our guests consistently enjoy this. I do apologise for the Welcome Basket. This I take accountability for. I had made a late product order which resulted in the goods not arriving in due course for your stay. There are no excuses as you should have expected somewhat more. Our provisions are always very generous, in fact if you read other reviews our Guests really appreciate it. We normally and consistently stock milk, sugar, butter, a range of tea, quality instant and stove top coffee, cooking oil and flours, rice, vinegar, spices and more. I do again apologise that you did not get the chance to experience this. A small scorpion....unfortunately nature has a way of surprising us all. Thank you for despatching it to the garden. I strongly support the quality of our home and am always delighted by consistently strong reviews. Thank you for acknowledging our wonderful view. I also thank you for your comments.

Our family of 5 had a really fantastic stay at Sunset Bay. The house is really comfortable, there is nothing lacking. Super amazing views. Shame we could only stay 2 nights, the house had back to back bookings - looking at the guest book people love the place! The process of booking was seamless and easy. The owner Brianna was really informative, she provides heaps of useful information in her welcome pack.We cooked, relaxed, slept, done a spot of sightseeing and had a platter at the Bruny Island Vineyard which was really tasty. The music and DVD collection was really impressive - as were the books for guests to use. One suggestion - Decaff Coffee for us fusspots!! Otherwise we had a great time and will highly recommend to friends both within the UK and australia. So nice to see owners taking great pride in their product. Did I mention the great views and yes of course the large free standing fire - so toasty! Great place to get away and unwind - give yourself more than a few days though as there is heaps to do and see. Lovely house design...wish we could have all that glass in our houses in the UK. Thanks!

We are a family of 5 and stayed at Sunset Bay Escape for 4 nights. We are active travellers and always enjoy staying in lovely accommodation. Sunset Bay was some of the best yet! What a great house, the owners have made it so comfortable and the views are superb. The house is very large and was great for our active brood. The kids loved the DVD and music collection and we enjoyed whipping up great food in the extremely well appointed kitchen. Bruny is a beautiful place, rich and diverse. The owners have fishing rods which the kids used down at the jetty. We lit the fire and the house was so warm...some drizzly rain did not impact the view...it was hard to steal yourself away from watching the weather roll in. We did the boat cruise which was amazing, took great family shots at the lighthouse, ate cheese, oysters, bread, wine and more...what we loved about Bruny was how friendly the local people were. We walked to the only hotel on the island and had dinner. The food was quite good, some might say good pub grub. Thy had Moo Brew which made my husband happy! Overall a great experience. Dealing with Brianna from start to finish was a pleasure. Thanks Brianna for recommending the rabbit pate at Salamanca...yummo! We hope to return sometime next year. Thank you!

Amanda thanks so much for the great review. Your husband, Doug, also emailed me thanking me for the Pate recommendation. I am so pleased you had a such a great stay. We had my mums 60th birthday celebration at sunset bay escape and it was an absolute triumph! We were a family of 6 and the house was a fabulous space to entertain in. We cooked up a storm with some great Tasmanian produce, the kitchen is so well equipped,it was like cooking at home. The house has a top music collection and the views are definitely impressive! We had great weather and some pretty unbelievable sunsets too! We ate, enjoyed local wine, the Pinot in particular is fantastic, indulged in Bruny cheese and Bruny fudge is pretty good too! We are keen walkers and loved the walk up and down cloudy bay beach...we took a zillion photos and created many great memories. Our mum had a wonderful time, we even had the pleasure of dolphins on the Bruny island boat cruise. Thanks Brianna for organising the extra goodies for the welcome hamper, mum was thrilled! Overall the house is fabulous. Big, beautiful and well designed. We had dinner at the only pub on the island a short stroll from the house, the salmon was too die for! Overall we had a wonderful time and we have already recommended it to friends who are travelling to sunset bay escape from QLD in august. Thanks!

Thanks for the recommendation for friends of yours to come and stay. Tony and his family are of course coming to stay in August. Always my pleasure dealing with such lovely people. See you again sometime! Regards Brianna.

Our family, 2 adults and 2 children spent 5 days at sunset bay escape and we had a brilliant time. The house is terrific. It is really expansive and the views are incredible! We pretty much ate breakfast, lunch and dinner on the deck and we never tired of the sweeping views. The house has been really thoughtfully decorated and the beds, linen and fully equipped kitchen was fantastic. Bruny too is magically. We did the boat cruise, ate too much cheese and plenty of oysters...the kids spent hours down at sunset bay collecting shells and driftwood. The local and only pub is a short walk away and we had good food there. Not sure if we caught a few of the staff on a bad night as the customer service was average, food was good though. Sunsets from the house are unbelievable and all in all this is by far one of the best holiday homes we have been too. Thanks Brianna for the great service throughout and for ensuring the welcome basket had a few extra goodies in it! We highly recommend and we plan on visiting again from Sydney in summer. Awesome job and credit to the owners! Thank you.

A great new modern home with views and sunsets forever!
Great that it was walking distance to the pub as it was the only place on the island open for dinner despite what all the info said. It was not in main holiday time so perhaps this is the reason but it would be good to know before you go so you can stock up as there is limited supply on the island. Thank god for the cheese shop and its fresh bread!! and the oysters and the great guys at the pub!! Also this house is called luxury and we found it a bit mean 3 toilets and 1 roll of toilet paper!! the rest of our stay was perfect and we will return.Response from Brianna Bell - 04/03/2013

Hi Wanda thanks for the great review. Thank you for pointing out that some of the eateries beyond the Easter weekend on Bruny Island do close down in preparation for the down time. I will ensure I advise our guests to pre-pack or purchase some extra goodies in Hobart. Thanks for being so well humoured about the toilet paper - our cleaners are generally meticulous with all the details so I will be sure to let them know. Not enough loo paper is never a good thing. :) Thank you for the email you sent me too about your stay and how you loved the house and loved Bruny. I too hope to see you back one day soon.......loo paper will be a certainty! :) Warm regards Brianna.

A thoughtfully designed and beautifully appointed house perfectly positioned to view magnificent sunsets. Loved Bruny Island, its' food offerings and the geographical contrasts. Loved the house design and appointments, it was a joy to cook in the kitchen. Enjoyed the sunny decks and even the cosy wood heater during a very wet afternoon. The islands' only pub was a few minutes walk distant. A nice touch was the welcome basket. Very comfortable and relaxing stay.

Perfect location on Bruny as it is central to many of the attractions and things to do. Best designed holiday house we have stayed in (2 adults and 2 small children).
It was like a home away from home in terms of the kitchen with almost every utensil and tool we needed for cooking like we do at home.
Brianna was a very responsive host and we would happily stay again. Top Job!!

Our few days on Bruny Island were marred by cold and rain. Even so, we toured several parts of the island, enjoying the rampant hospitality. Especially because of the weather, we were very grateful for Sunset Bay Escape. The home is quite nicely updated and appointed. To say it's spacious is n understatement. There were just the two of us. Three couples could stay here with great ease. If we come back to Bruny Island, we'll come back here.
Response from Brianna Bell - 02/27/2013

Thankyou for the great comments. We agree Sunset Bay Escape with its large fire and reverse cycle heating in the entertaining area makes the stay during cold and rainy weather very cosy. The views to the sea and mountains is also superb....all that glass allows you to soak it all up! We hope to see you here from the States again one day. Many thanks.

Expansive.Huge house - huge views. All the luxuries of home in a stunning location. The house and especially the kitchen were well equipped.
There is a good selection of information on hand for planning your day and for those who want a quiet day the lounge is stocked with books and dvd's. We took the owners advise and bought food and wine with us and enjoyed cooking in the kitchen which looked out to the water. The local bottle shop is well equipped and a meal at the local hotel(2 minutes walking distance)is recommended as is the Hothouse restaurant.
Dont miss out on the Island boat trip which departs from adventure Bay but book the day before to avoid disappointment.
A fishing trip with a local saw us eating flathead, squid and mussels on the deck withing the hour after docking back at the harbour.
For the very first time...a fireplace that works properly and a house that also caters for the hot days with airconditioning.
The whole process of booking the house til the end of the holiday was seamless and so easy to deal with the owners.
We have travelled both here and overseas and it is a pleasure to book accomodation and not be disappointed by the end of your stay.
We are looking forward to their new accomodation option in Vanuatu.

We are active travellers and have stayed in many holiday houses. This property lived up to every expectation. The house is so very well equipped and has all the lovely finer details. The kitchen was so well equipped, in fact if not better than our own and the cook books, general books, CDs and Dvds were so full of variety, we felt very spoilt!
The views we incredible, and those sunsets! Such a beautiful house design. We enjoyed exploring the beautiful island and were so happy to return home to such a great house. I am from Sydney and travel with my husband to Tasmania every few years to visit friends in Hobart. I have been to Bruny Island twice before and have stayed at other holiday houses. In comparison Sunset Bay Escape is pure luxury. I find that alot of holiday houses state they are luxury and have wonderful photo's yet prove to be disappointing on arrival. This wasn't the case at all, the house is beautiful, plentiful, 3 bathrooms, great wide verandah's and every convenience catered for. A passion of mine is cooking and to my delight i discovered an entire drawer full of Chinese cooking and serving equipment. Wow! I loved standing in the kitchen looking out through the glass doors at the water and distant mountains and waking up to the sound of native birds, particularly the black cockatoos.
Well done to the owners in building such a lovely home and sharing it with people who cherish getting away and staying in luxury!
I will definitely book this house again next time we travel to Tassy.
