ok - a bit worn, washing machine out of order, needed other repa

Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in August 2010

An apartment that had lots of potential, but needed a little more investment. On request, management came promptly and fixed many things: the handle of the window that had fallen off and hit me in the foot, the loose slats of the bed that kept me awake... But the washing machine stayed broken - if they had warned me ahead of time, I would not have flooded the apartment below (while I was out). When I complained about the lack of a washing machine, they did offer to relocate me (not worth moving, I thought). There were many small inconveniences - for example, the locks did not work smoothly, and needed to be unlocked and relocked travelling in each direction. With 4 locks on 3 doors, it was a challenge with an armload of groceries. Furniture was Ikea and showing its age, and could have been cleaner. Kitchen equipment was minimal and well worn. Cleanliness of the rest of the apartment was passable. The photos showed a great layout - a bit disappointing to find the quality of furnishings low. Staff uniformly did their best, even when things were difficult - and the stories they told of how some renters had treated the place generates some sympathy.

On the upside, it had a fantastic location, close to restaurants and the subway, with grocery stores nearby. Management was pretty good about pointing out amenities in the neighbourhood, although check-in happened at the office, a fair walk away when carrying luggage. An easy cab ride to the train station. The little bistro right downstairs had great takeout and even better little desserts & the like.

Not recommended for mobility-impaired travellers or those with lots of luggage - narrow steep stairs might also pose a danger to small children.

      A convenient place to stay

Left on 03/05/2011 for a stay in April 2010

Very central. Flat had all we needed. Not quite as good as Mannekin 1 where we also stayed, but perfectly all right.

      Could have done better

Left on 09/19/2010 for a stay in August 2010

This apartment is reasonable value for money - a great location over a little shop that, conveniently enough, has take-out service if you want it. Good layout. Furnishings are Ikea and showing their age; some cleaning would help.

My major objection was that the washing machine wasn't working (and why have an apartment if you can't do laundry?), but they didn't tell me, so I ended up flooding the poor people in the apartment below and was without laundry facilities. Management responded quickly and repaired a number of other small items, but could not repair the machine. The did offer to move me to another, less central apartment, but it didn't seem worthwhile to pack up and go to the trouble of moving. A token discount would have been a nice touch - I was *not* keen spending my vacation time at the laundromat.

Management was also helpful with neighborhood information (grocery stores etc).

Equipment was basic at best - no spatula, carrot peeler, tea towel, alarm clock, or curtain in the bathroom window. Cutting board was in terrible shape and not cleanable - yuck. One dresser in the bedroom, that was completely filled with bedding (but no spare sheets).

Another annoyance was an absurd series of locking and unlocking - to enter, one has to unlock the outer door, and use the key to re-lock from the inside. Then the same procedure for an inner door. Finally, two locks, not easy to open, on the apartment door. All the unlocking and relocking meant it was a real hassle to get in with your hands full of groceries or laundry or whatnot.
