60898The Great Escape--and Pet Friendly
Left on 04/23/2012 for a stay in April 2012
Well, as usual, I always need a pet friendly stay. The a-Frame Chalet was a perfect place for my dogs, my sister, and me to get away and enjoy the scenery. This cabin provided a central location for me to conduct business in the area--good location for getting to major highway and the cities I needed to visit. My sister got to relax on the massive deck and enjoy the creek below. The dogs loved the water!! Hiking was loads of fun. There are other cabins in close proximity, so you may have neighbors.
The cabin is not new, so don't expect upscale luxury...it's a perfect hideaway with things you need (plus a hot tub on the deck!) I found the downstairs bed to be fairly uncomfortable, but the downstairs area is very private, has its own bath and is very quiet. Be aware, there is no way to get the kitchen and family room without negotiating stairs. There is one set of stairs that is shorter and easier to manage, but if ground floor access to the kitchen and deck is a must, choose another of the many cabins managed by Hidden Creek.
I really enjoyed the time in the a-Frame!! Thank you for a wonderful stay. Will definitely try to stay here again! -

Greenville, South CarolinaWe didn't want to leave!
Left on 10/28/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My husband and I took a long weekend vacation to relax, recharge and check out the fall foliage in Bryson City. After looking at several cabins we chose the a-Frame Chalet...mainly because it was available for the days that we wanted.
What a great find! The cabin was nestled on a private road next to a lovely creek. There was a small cabin immediately next door but we never heard a peep from them though we saw a car there every day. There was also a third cabin about 500 yards away and a little farther down the private drive a 4th cabin. All were occupied while we were there but there was only one night when we heard the familiar "woo-hoo" of drunken revelry. And that only lasted a short time.
The cabin is less than 10 minutes from downtown Bryson City but there was no traffic noise from the main road once inside the cabin. There's a hiking trail right off the back deck and across the creek and a short stroll up the private road leads to an old log cabin and old-fashioned fire truck that was lots of fun to explore and take photos around.
The cabin was clean and comfortable. The hot tub on the back deck was divine! It looked out onto the creek and had a privacy screen that shielded us from the neighbors. The cabin had a good-sized fridge and all the pots/pans we needed so we enjoyed cooking some great meals at home while snuggling by the gas fireplace in the den.We found a cricket in the bathtub one day...but that's not uncommon considering that it's near a creek and the weather was turning cooler. We helped him right out the front door and on his merry way with no problems.
There's wireless internet for a fee which we used and the cabin manager that was on call always answered out calls, replied promptly, and made sure everything we needed was taken care of.
We spent our time hiking several nearby waterfall trails (great day!), took a drive to Fontana Dam (amazing sight) and took the Fall foliage train ride on the Great Smokey Mountain Train. We also got lucky in town and stumbled on a chili cook off, a Shriner's beer festival fundraiser and a local band performance all in the same weekend! The people were so friendly and we had some great conversations with locals and visitors alike at each event. Be sure to bring cash, though. The local events didn't take credit cards and there's only one aTM in town. We ended up going to the Ingles supermarket to restock on a few supplies and just got cash-back at check out to avoid the high aTM fees we knew our bank would charge.
We had a great stay and hope to go back next spring. Just one tip: when packing up, make sure to check all of the cabinets for your things. We left several brand new bottles of vitamins in one drawer we forgot to check. When we called the next day to see if they could mail them back to us, we were told someone else had already checked in and that they would let us know after that group checked out if the vitamins were still there. They weren't. Apparently the next group who stayed there took them.
Oh, well. That was totally our fault for leaving something behind, but a good reminder that there's dishonorable people in the world. -

We just love Bryson City and everything the area has to offer. This was our 3rd time at Hidden Creek Cabins and our 2nd time at the aframe Chalet. Next year we hope to rent 4 or 5 cabins and have a large family reunion..
