SarahBelle at Szervita ter is a spacious, connecting two-bedroom apartment designed by a Budapest architect to be shared by his two adult daughters. Double dividing doors offer privacy between the halves; each is fully self-sufficient with its own kitchen, bath, living room and bedroom/gallery. Each can be rented separately, though the apartment comes into its own when a group of friends or an extended family rent the entire f...lat.
Each half has its own entry from the courtyard, actually from separate elevators (they are both on the top, 5th, floor). Both are fully air conditioned, each has a washer and a dryer as well as high speed WiFi Internet access, a small computer, a flatpanel TV and cable tv, dvd player and library, iPod docking station and speakers, and VOIP telephone service with free worldwide calling (to most locations, unlimited).
The Sarah half has the more private bedroom, with a smaller bed (it's a bit larger than an American full/double bed, a bit smaller than a queen). The bedroom is tiny but cozy, and there's a dining area and reading nook just below. The apartment is extremely bright with a very large window onto the courtyard, and has a very large, very comfortable convertible sofa (with solid, not folding, mattresses). The apartment has a small balcony on the courtyard with a bistro table where one can sit and sip coffee (the apartment comes with a Nespresso espresso system).
The Belle half has a very large sleeping gallery with a queen sized bed and a small desk. It has large picture windows and skylights and is very bright but also very snug and cozy. The sleeping gallery is comfortable without stooping for guests up to about 6' 2" (1.9m). There is a very comfortable convertible sofa in the living room (the mattress does not fold but pops up so it is solid and firm).
In addition, a third apartment - Liesel - adjoins Belle on the other side, making it possible to book up to 12 guests with three bedrooms, three baths and three convertible sofas. Liesel is a bit smaller than Sarah or Belle but has all of their amenities, save a dryer and a convection oven. The apartment is arranged in such a way that it is possible to add the entire flat to access Belle, or to add only the bedroom to provide one more sleeping option. Liesel has a separate entry from the building courtyard and is both secure and soundproof.
The apartment is near all three major Metro lines as well, a block from Deak ter, where all 3 intersect. And, in the opposite direction, it's a block from Vaci utca, .
This is the heart of the tourist area, but you are also in a thriving small residential neighborhood -- there are several small markets nearby, cleaners, a winbe shop, neighborhood cafes (our favorite cafe is a block away -- the Gerloczy; there's a pharmacy nearby, a small convenience store just down the block; an upscale supermarket across from the Gerloczy).
You can take a (primitive) video tour of the apartment by going to YouTube and searching for "Apartment SarahBelle at Szervita ter".
Szervita ter (where Sarah is) is a small square in the very center of Pest's old Center City (the Belvaros or District V); the building is the Rozsavolgyi Building (if you Google it you'll find that it is an architecturally landmarked building presaging the shift in European architecture from Art Nouveau to Bauhaus).Read more

We loved our stay in Budapest at the SarahBelle
John Fargo was so helpful. He bent over backwards to make our trip
memorable. He set up a dinner for our granddaughter's 13th birthday.
He even arranged to have her a cake. We were blown away by his
kindness. The apartment was very nice and everything we were expecting. It was centrally located and very easy to get around the beautiful city.

Great apartments in Budapest Center
Boy, were we happily surprised! In previous years, we have rented apartments in various cities in Europe and have always been basically pleased with the experience. But our stay in apartments Sarah and Belle at 5 Szervita Ter in Budapest was clearly a cut above. Not only did the management provide us with a way to contact a prompt and courteous driver, who picked us up and delivered us to the apartment, but they went so far as to stock the fully functional kitchens with enough basics so that we could start our first full day in the city without having to go out either to shop or to have breakfast. The apartments are charming and comfortable and located right in the heart of Pest. They are about a block from the main pedestrian street, Vaci Utca, and only a few short blocks from the main Metro, where we could catch any of the Metro lines serving Budapest. There are phones provided for local and transoceanic calls, as well as computers with Internet access. Before our departure for Europe, our landlord, John, regularly emailed us advice regarding interesting events in Budapest, as well as restaurant and shop recommendations, and he quickly answered all questions we asked him. We enthusiastically recommend these apartments to anyone planning a stay in Budapest.
Comfort of home with city charm
My traveling companion and I prearranged for taxi accommodations and were very pleased with the convenience and friendliness of the drivers. Once at the property, we were greeted by a woman who briefly familiarized us with the accommodations, amenities, and local points of interest. There were many maps and guides available for our use at the apartment. I enjoyed the sampling of pastries left for our enjoyment along with a cup of coffee while settling in.
During our stay, I slept on the pullout couch while my travel companion utilized the upper loft area. Both of us managed to maintain privacy and share the space quite comfortably throughout our time.
The location was fantastic, I felt like many sights and landmarks were within walking distance. A walk across the Chain Bridge and a ride on the funicular led me to the wonderful history and architecture of Buda. Although a bit lengthy, we walked to Magrite Island to burn off some calories from all of the fantastic Foie gras we were sampling-the most enjoyable tastings were at Michelin rated Onyx and the Four Seasons (both just a few minutes walking distance from the apartment).
Overall it was a wonderful and comfortable stay with the touches and conveniences of home. The fantastic location in the heart of the city truly allows any traveler to take in the rich culture that Budapest has to offer!
charming, great location, best apartment we've rented
We had the opportunity to stay in this lovely apartment on our July trip to Budapest. In a word it was awesome. The owner has gone to a great deal of effort to make sure that the apartment had everything a traveler could need. The bedding and towels were of a lovely quality. The kitchen was well stocked with all the necessities and more. The wine and treats left for us to enjoy were an appreciated surprise. I loved the little loft area where the main bedroom was located as well as the quaint dining sitting area. The computer and wireless access made making further travel arrangements and keeping in touch with home very convenient. John, the owner, provided such a wealth of information before we left about the apartment, the area, restaurants, etc. that we felt we knew a lot about the city before we even arrived. I will definitely be staying here again in the future!
When I travel I like to live like the locals.
This place was extremely friendly and incredibly convenient to all the great places you want to see in Budapest.
Amenities were thoughtful and good quality. Bed was comfortable and kitchen well equipped.
Great bathroom and shower.
electronically sophisticated and easy to connect. We had a blast staying in this neighborhood.

Great location, Great apartment, Great City
We have stayed in a number of self-catering accommodations when traveling and have seen some great and not so great places. Belle falls into the "great" category.
John has fitted out the apartment with everything you could possibly need for a stay. It really is like a home away from home. The kitchen is well equipped and the fridge was stocked with some basic needs (milk, salami, baked goods) so we didn't have to run out to a grocery store right away.
We were in Budapest during an unseasonable heat wave and the air conditioners were put to the test. It was so wonderful to be able to come in from the heat and relax after walking for hours seeing the sights of Budapest.
John has provided instructions for everything you can think you might need help with. For us it was the instructions on where to find the circuit breaker that we needed most, when we accidentally had too many items plugged in, but once we got the hang of what would blow the circuit we were okay. Easy to fix and not something to worry too much about.
The only caveat that I would put on the place is that if you have difficulty climbing steep stairs you might have problems getting to the loft bedroom. It wasn't a problem for me or my husband but for others it might be.
Absolutely loved the place and would definitely stay there again.
Great accomodation! attention to all details
We had a great experience staying in SarahBelle apartments. Everything in the apartments was perfect. John and his wife has dedicated a lot of time on thinking in all the small and big details to make sure all their guest are comfortable and happy. Small things like travel books, umbrellas, towels for the spa, wine, a coffee machine, etc etc. Really nice place to stay. We will be coming back for sure.
Warm, cozy accommodations, wonderful hosts, highly recommended a
Dear John & Jeanne,
A little belated, but still heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to stay at your lovely apartment,Sarah. Beginning with the great communication beforehand, your recommended driver alajos picking us up at the train station, Ilona meeting us at the apartment to introduce us to the apt., the wine, pastries, cheese, etc.waiting for us, the very comfortable accommodations with all the amenities you could think of, it was a wonderful way to spend our days in Budapest. You have thought of everything to make this a home away from home and we would highly recommend a stay here. A lovely city and the location of the apartment made it very easy to explore. We got a good introduction to Budapest -much more to see and do, hopefully another time.
Charm in Budapest
We are four adults from the us and stayed in the Sarah and Belle apts. in March. Both were very charming, well appointed, clean and well equiped. The refrig was stocked with food (eggs, milk, lunch meat, etc.) when we arrived along with a bottle of wine and various coffees. John and his staff were excellant to work with and very responsive. The location is great.

Loved my first trip to Hungary!
Thank you John for such a lovely stay at your apt SarahBelle!
You truly thought of everything! The location was second to none. I don't know why anyone would stay at Intercontinental around the corner when you can get the same treatment for a lot less money staying with you!
Being that taxis are somewhat unrealiable in Budapest, being in a location where you can walk to 5-Star restaurants and world class shopping, and so many tourist attractions is essential. This is what your location offers.
Plenty of super large soft towels, fresh breakfast in the frig, Hungary wine to relax to in the evening, extensive tourist information, sewing kits, converter plugs, free calls back to the us, washer and dryer...on and on. You thought of everything!
The only problem...we got hooked on your Nespresso maker and had to buy one upon return! :)
Thanks again. We can't wait to come back! I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone. Catherine
I wish I had found this place a year ago!
I have been a regular visitor to Budapest over the past year, and tried a few places, but this is by far the best. Not only is it ideally located in the interesting part of Budapest, but it is also quiet. There is plenty to enjoy in the thoughful provision of things to make a stay easy, enjoyable and interesting. John also helped me out when I needed it.
a wonderful place to stay
My stay in the Belle apartment was just wonderful.
It actually felt like home (or sometimes even better, I must say even my own apartment isn't so cute and cozy) and it was so nice to come back there every evening after a day in the city feeling myself a real Budapest citizen. The building is located near Deak Ferenc Ter, and it seems like anything in Budapest is close enough, and at a walkable distance.
The apartment is small and clean, and it has anything you can possibly need during your stay (things like hair dryer, washer, PC with wi-fi, coffee machine, etc etc etc). Besides, on your arrival you find there a bottle of wine and pastries in a fridge waiting for you - such a nice touch from the owners to make you feel welcome at their home.
Also there are TV and a lot of dvd movies, there are books - not just Budapest guidebooks, but also novels and books on culture and history - so even on a rainy evening at home you'll have something to do.
I would highly recommend this place to any of my friends and would like to stay there again!
Home away from home
We stay in apartments rather than hotels when abroad and look for something a little bit special. I can safely say that we've never found anywhere as special as Belle/Liesel for the simple reason that the apartment came with its owner John, who is a walking encyclopaedia of information on Budapest and who isn't content until he's made sure that you have all the information you need to enjoy your time in Hungary to the full. He helped us in our tour planning, offered us email contact to historian friends of his and generally gave us guidance when we asked for it. If you need help with purchasing theatre tickets or restaurant bookings, you only have to ask.
He has thought of all the dozens of things a newcomer needs to find his feet. In the beautifully furnished apt was a computer, land-line and mobile phones ready for use, transport tickets to see you through the first day or so, and all the cooking utensils and condiments you could think of. There were also acres of storage space, washing and drying machines, a coffee machine, masses of towels and bedding, luggage stands, spa towels, and even umbrellas in case of rain! It felt like a second home, and there was ample space on the cosy L-shaped sofa for the 4 of us to curl up in the evenings.
There are also pamphlets giving you instructions for all the appliances, John's own Budapest guide, and a 40 page guide to the local restaurants. This meant that every meal we ate was a joy. There are also music CDs, Dvds, guide books, cookery books, books on Hungarian culture and history, and just novels to while the time away.
The apt is in an early Secessionist building near the Elizabeth Bridge and we walked everywhere. Although John has owned these apartments for many years, it gave us the impression of having been thoroughly renovated just in time for our visit!
John's interest in us and the care he took to make sure we were happy made our few days in Budapest really special and we will definitely return.

Well located, Comfortable and all around great
Our "stay" on Szervita Ter started with contacting the owner, John, who was an encyclopedia of information regarding Budapest, things to do, places to go and amenities in and around the apartment. I really was a help in our development of how we were going to spend our last 3 days of our central European tour.
We rented Sarah and Belle for 5 adults and found it comfortable and well stocked. Having fresh Hungarian pastry waiting for us was a real treat. The building has a great history and the best way I can describe it is eclectic. It gives you a sense that you are living like a real Budapestian rather than tourist. It is well located in the center of the city with easy access to just about anywhere one would care to be. We liked that fact that it had a washer and dyer especially since we took our own towels to the baths and brought them back to wash and dry.Since it was pretty hot during our visit, the fact that the units have air con is great! We highly recommend!

Wonderful central location, great apartments
We planned a two week family (5 adults) vacation to Budapest and were so lucky to find John and his properties. None of his apartments that could accommodate the size of our family were available the entire time, so we spent about 4 days at apartment Max, then moved to apartment Sarah/Belle for the remainder. When it was time to move from apartment Max, Ilona's brother-in-law (Ilona was away while we were in Budapest) walked with us the 5 or so blocks to Sarah/Belle.
Sarah/Belle is centrally located, about 2 blocks from Deák tér, the central metro station, and about 3 blocks from the Danube. We walked to many of the sites we wanted to see, but also bought a 7 day metro travel card, which made it simple to hop on and off the metro without worrying about validating the card each time. The apartments are very clean and well cared for. John and Jeanne have thought of everything you might need and included for your use.
The wealth of information that John provides via his websites, through email, and in the apartments is very helpful. He has a wonderful sense of humor, which is evident in his various descriptions of life in Budapest, using the currency, shopping, use of the appliances in the apartments, and many other things. His phone calls to make sure everything was going well and his inquiries following our stay as to anything that might improve the experience, all speak to his love of the city and his respect for his guests.
We highly recommend Sarah/Belle and apartment Max but you can't go wrong with any of John's apartments.

Perfectly located, wonderful apartment, easy to work with owner
We absolutely loved this apartment. My husband and I have stayed in half a dozen apartment rentals in our travels over the last year and this one really had everything and more than we could have asked for including:
-Easy to work owner that really cared about the renters experience
-beautifully appointed apartment in fantastic location
-separate shower/bathroom area (really convenient)
-fantastic aC units that kept the apartment very comfortable
-a ton of pluses (washer/dryer, nespresso machine, us electrical strip for convenience, sample sizes of many things one might forget, and the list goes on)
It really set the standard for our eastern/central Europe trip. I would happily recommend this apartment to any friends or family visiting Budapest and if we go back, that's where we'll hope to stay.
Thanks again for a great visit to the lovely city of Budapest.
My family (5 adults and 2 children) rented adjoining apartments Sarah and Belle over the Easter holiday. The apartments were centrally located and fully equipped with everything we want or need during our stay. John, our landlord, is enthusiastic about Budapest and went to great lengths to share with us all the city has to offer via his personal guides and recommendations. This, alone, would be a reason to stay here! The city is beautiful and we easily walked to many of the main attractions - the Opera, the Market Hall, the Parliament, St. Stephen's Basilica, the river, numerous pastry and coffee shops. We wish we could have stayed longer!
Sparkling accommodation in the heart of Budapest
The building has an Iron Curtain-y feel--the stairwells are dim, and there are several locked gates you must pass to access the apartment. But once you figure out the keys and walk inside, the apartment is beautiful and modern, very home-y, and full of many wonderful amenities. There are maps, guidebooks, umbrellas, a bag of towels for your spa visit (a must in Budapest), incredible Turkish towels, teas and coffees for your consumption, a bottle of wine upon your arrival, and maybe the best thing, a Vonage phone line that allows you to call back home (the us) completely free of charge. The owner also has provided lengthy and very helpful packets of information to help you get the most out of your Budapest experience. And the place could not be more central to everything. I did not use public transportation once, as I was able to walk everywhere, albeit lengthy walks; but walking through such a beautiful and fascinating city was the whole point! The bathroom is spotless and modern. My only caveat is that the sleeping area is on a small loft and might be a bit cozy for a couple. I was alone, so it was pleasantly cozy for me. One final note--there was a mix-up with my reservation, and the owner went to work immediately to remedy the situation and ultimately, as a goodwill gesture, offered to let me stay the three nights for free. So he truly cares about the overall experience of his guests. Highly recommended!
Texans in Budapest
Sarah, Belle & Liesel were the perfect setup for us - a couple travelling with our two grown boys and daughter-in-law. We each had our own apartment and could close them off at night for privacy or open the connecting doors to make one very large space for together time. Wonderful apartments: central to all the main attractions, clean with comfortable furniture, well-stocked with kitchen appliances and utensils and staples provided. We especially appreciated (1) the hair dryers provided so we didn't have to bring ours and struggle with the correct adapters, (2) the 110 strips for recharging our phones and cameras, (3) the internet connections, (4) the plastic coated instruction sheets for everything in the apartments and much other helpful information about Budapest, in general and (5) the wonderful bottle of wine, pastries, and stocked refrigerators left for us in each apartment! We saw the sights during the day and arrived "home” in the evening with groceries and wine in tow to prepare our own meals and chill out and rest up. During our week there, our guys got in touch with their Hungarian roots and all learned a lot of history about the country!
We loved every minute of our trip and appreciate all John's good advice and answers.
Your home from home in the centre of Budapest!
Staying at Sarah is like staying with an old friend, the kind of place you don't think you'll be lucky enough to find when visiting a foreign city for the first time. We were greeted on arrival not only by Ilona who showed us around and explained everything to us, but also by a plate full of Hungarian pastries, a bottle of wine and a fridge stocked with basic foodstuffs. From the moment we walked in, Sarah felt like home.
The apartment is spotlessly clean and all work and fittings are of the highest standards, but it is also cosy, comfortable and has bags of character! Much thought and love has gone into making it the perfect base for its guests, from the washing machine and Nespresso corner to the internet and supply of copious amounts of information and books about Budapest and beyond. The "spa bag", ready-packed with towels for a visit to the thermal baths was also appreciated!
Sarah really is your home from home slap bang in the centre of Budapest! We walked everywhere without ever needing to take public transport.
Come and stay here when you visit Budapest and you won't want to leave!
"Perfect location, incredibly well-appointed and comfortable, ou
"Sarah,” was immaculate, comfortable, stylish, affordable, centrally located, and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need (with extras such as a Mac computer, free Wifi, free Hungarian cell phone, free international calling through a VoIP, etc.). The apartment has a set of guides about the apartment, life in Budapest, and adventures in local dining. We can say from experience that the advice is sound and the dining guide particularly is valuable, since John recommends many fine local restaurants you won't find in Fodor or Rick Steves.
When you first encounter John's Budapest apartments, you're directed to an amazingly comprehensive website, encompassing Budapest history, gastronomy, sightseeing, shopping, and apartment information, not to mention a series of personal blogs from the host himself. The site offers video tours of the 7 different rentals personally managed by him. And we do mean "personally”: John calls you when you check in and is always available by email or telephone to respond to emergencies (you won't have any), innocent queries, or complex requests.
We may have a somewhat different perspective than many renters, as we stayed in the same apartment for over 2 months. However, long stays often reveal the difficulties as well as the advantages. We only found advantages here. Having spent over a year in a rented apartment in Tokyo and two months in Rouen, plus one- to two-week rental stays elsewhere, we know that first impressions can be misleading. Yet, our longish rental experience in Budapest has brought us more and more admiration for what John does for guests in this city (and country) he loves. This is, simply, the best, most comfortable, and most enlightening time we've ever had abroad.
If you are thinking about visiting Budapest, we strongly recommend that (a) you do so; and (b) you contact John and Jeanne about accommodations. We know you will be well-served on both counts, whether you stay two days or two months.

It's all about Location & Comfort
Once again, John & Jeanne have shown their commitment to their clients. Four friends rented Sarah & Belle for 2 weeks and our experience with both the apartment and the city of Budapest was outstanding. We had stayed in Max in 2010 and this time wanted a bit more privacy, so we booked Sarah & Belle. There was more than enough room for everyone. Although the sleeping loft in Sarah was a bit cramped, the challenge soon turned to fun as you leapt from staircase to bed. All the amenities were at hand. The location is outstanding - just around the corner from Vaci Utca and it's pedestrian streets. Budapest is a beautiful city, entrenched in history. The spirit of the people only emphasizes it's march toward rebuilding and refurbishing gorgeous buildings. It's a walking city and the location of John & Jeannes' apartments is perfect for exploring. Nothing is too far away. We've now stayed in 3 of these apartments and looking forward to experiencing a 4th. We have chosen apartment rentals over hotels for years now and must admit, John's apartments are, by far, the best we have ever stayed in. Their concern for our well-being and comfort supercedes anything we've experienced. There are so many nice "touches" that come with this rental...pastries and wine on arrival...stocked fridge so you don't have to shop right away...ease of transportation to and from the airport. It all adds up to a most welcome arrival in Budapest.
Thanks John & Jeanne. We will be back soon.
The service, on-site and via phone from the us, could not have been better. The orientation, both written and oral, was clear and extremely helpful. Belle was very clean, comfortable, and furnished with appliances and amenities far beyond expectation--and I have stayed in and been happy with a number of other Vrbo properties. The location is incomparable--3 blocks from 3 metro line, about the same distance to the Danube. Goods, services, and restaurants all in easy reach. I checked other properties but this is the very best value for the money. My son, 32 years younger than I, was equally impressed.
40th Birthday in Budapest
My partner and I travelled to Budapest to celebrate my 40th birtday in May 2011. Initially I found the Sarah apartment through a random google search and wow, were so very lucky to have found it! The owners are extremely gracious and generous and they provided so many nice basic amenities in the apartment...totally felt at home the whole time. They were also very easy to reach via phone during our trip. At one point my partner exoerienced some major ear pain due to flying and needed to seek medical help. John immediately gave us the name of his ENT doctor friend and we were able to get an appointment the very same day. Despite the unfortunate trip to the hospital, we were able to enjoy our stay in Budapest, thanks mostly to John's assistance.
He was also incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in suggesting things to do and places to eat; all of his suggestions were spot on...Cafe Bouchon for my 40th bday dinner...Sooo amazing!!!
The Sarah apartment was very quaint, clean and the perfect size for 2 people. It is very conveniently located in central Pest.
I would recommend the Sarah apartment and any other Budapestvacationrentals.com properties to anyone 100 times over!

Exceptional apartment in the heart of Budapest!!
Our family of five (mom, dad, plus three adult daughters) rented the adjoining fifth floor apartments-- Sarah and Belle -- during Novemmber 25-29, 2010 and had a wonderful stay during our Thanksgiving away from home. John Farago is a very helpful owner with tons of advice on how to enjoy Budapest and provided many more amenities that you would expect from any hotel. He even arranged for us to have a goose dinner at Cafe Bouchon (he'll be happy to arrange this for any guest of the apartment). On arrival, the apartment manager welcomed us with pastries, wine, "Pick" salami, and cheese (and explained the system of keys :-). The apartments were clean and fully furnished with everything we needed (TV, WiFi, computer, Nespresso coffee, and much more), including two spa bags with towles that were perfect for our afternoon out at the Szechenyi thermal baths in the City park. Best of all, it was just a short walk to V?ci Utca and the V?r?smarty t?r where you can catch the M1 (yellow) metro to go up to the Opera house or Szechenyi furdo. It also a short walk to the Gerl?czy Cafe where we had great dinners, just as recommended by John. We also had a plus during Thanksgiving - - the Christmas fair that was going on in Vorosmarty ter - - we enjoyed lots of famous Wintertime snacks there, including langos and K?rtos kal?cs (hollow cylindrical cakes). We can't say enough about the apartment and, the next time we come to Budapest, we'll be sure to rent the apartment again (assuming it's available... considering how good a deal this is!!).
Lots of family time in Budapest
Our neighbor who is also in the Military suggested this vacation rental to me. I was looking for a lot of space, close to the main attractions of the area. Sarah and Bella combined were perfect for my husband, myself and our girls (ages 3 and 4). Having the joined apartments and our baby monitor made it easy to put them to bed after a long day of sightseeing and have time to ourselves without having to tiptoe around. Also the monitor reached down to the patio of the restaurant across the street. Both apartments were fully stocked with kitchen accessories as well as a few snacks, tea/coffee, milk and eggs. Lots of books, games and a few small toys for the kids. The girls loved the old style elevator that we took up to the apartment. Location was perfect. Restaurants, stores, subway...all very easy to get to. I would highly recommend these apartments to any family traveling to Budapest.
Budapest for 9 days
Absolutely wonderful. There was nothing lacking. Excellent coffee machine, well-equipped kitchen. And a cell phone for local use as well as a phone for allowing for fee calls back to the U.S.
Unbelievable comfort and service in the center of Old Budapest
My family comes from what is now the Ukraine. We set out on a genealogical exploration, using Budapest as our mid-way stop. Little did I realize that we would find Budapest to be such a wonderful, user-friendly, affordable, and scenic destination! Little did I realize, either, that we would stumble upon the exquisite comfort and convenience of John Farago's apartments, Sarah-Belle, at Szervita ter 5.
My wife and I used one apartment, our son-in-law/daughter/2-year old granddaughter used the adjoining one. Our trip turned into a family reunion of superior enjoyment. Mornings began with our grand-daughter politely knocking on the door between apartments.
We loved it!
From Sarah-Belle, too, we could get anywhere in the city quickly. Szechenyi baths, The Zoo, Margrit Island, Gellert Hill...you name it.
We soon grew to feel part of the neighborhood, with its many shops, stores, and restaurants. John had placed detailed information booklets, access to his staff, free Voip calls, a local phone, wireless Internet, coffee machines, washers, dryers, immaculate kitchens, great bathrooms with lots of hot water, security to the nth degree, etc., etc., at our disposal, and for an amazingly affordable price.
Finally, after our departure, we have encountered unanticipated problems with shipping packages via Magyar Posta from Budapest to where we live in Germany. On his very own initiative, mind you, and even though we are no longer guests at his apartments, John Farago has taken it upon himself to make certain the packages (paprika and the like) get to us.
Service and enjoyment ne plus extra!
Everything John says about Sarah and Belle is true. They are charming, well furnished, well stocked and comfortable. The unlimited long distance calling, the pastries in the fridge and the welcome wine was all so nice. I also really appreciated the "Spa Bags" to bring to the baths. The location could not be better and the air conditioning was nice and cold. We were two couples and it was the perfect way to travel. I highly recommend these apartments. Thank you John.

Personal Service In The Heart of Downtown Budapest
(Note: This is a double apartment, but we stayed only in the belle half.) Apartment Belle was a wonderful introduction to Europe and the perfect place to get over jet lag and being in an unfamiliar country with a very strange language! The location is perfect, on a quiet street just a block or two from the central metro station, quaint cafes, and the Danube. Our host was meticulous, leaving detailed instructions about everything from the washing machine to the best place to get a goose dinner. There is a landline phone with an american number (something we didn't appreciate fully until we traveled elsewhere in Europe) and a mobile phone for your use as well. The place was spotless and we were welcomed with an assortment of delicious pastries, which were much appreciated after 24 hours in transit!
The apartment (again, we were in just one half of the whole) is perfect for a couple or a family with smaller children. We have a tall teenager and a ten year old, and it was a bit snug for them on the foldout bed, but still comfortable. We would enthusiastically recommend belle to future Budapest visitors.
Stay in comfort and ease at Buadepest's very center
Our son-in-law, daughter, and 2-year old granddaughter stayed in Sarah, my wife and I in Belle, for the week of 02-09 September.
It was fantastic!
John Farago, who owns and runs the place, has everything a traveler could want at his/her disposal: Great beds, comfortable living rooms, great furniture, great kitchens with appliances, washers, dryers, etc. There is free hig-speed Internet (wireless), phones both in Skype (Voip) and for local calls, everything!
Also, the bathrooms are super and with lots of hot water. The building has tremendous security and a most excellent location.
You wake, have a coffee in the machine and with the implements provided, bathe, dress, walk out the door to the right or left, and bingo! You're within walking distance of great shopping, great restaurants, the Metro to the zoo or the Szechelnyi baths...walking distance to catch the boat to Margrit Island, or a good walk but not overly strenuous to Gellert Hilland the Citadel.
We stayed at Sarah Belle as an afterthought on our way from Germany to Kiev; but, had we known how truly splendid the apartments and Budapest would be, we would have stayed there longer. They were just as good if not better than the Hotel Kempinski, where we stayed on our way back from Kiev.
You come to Sarah Belle as strangers, faced with a different culture and extremely difficult language, and leave feeling like true citizen of Budapests and the world, surrounded by good food, friendly shopkeepers, anything you want, and most important: fantastic memories.
And John Farago, with his detailed instructions and dedicated staff, puts it into play!

Sara, Celia and I were vacationing for a long weekend in Budapest...the apartment was great...every need was met..tv, computer, vonage phone service...not that we had much time to utilize these amenities, but it was great knowing they were available for our use. The apartements were spotelessly clean and there were fresh pastries, egss, cheese, and wine wainting for us..plus a charming coffee maker. The deocr was warm and inviting with lots of interesting reading material about Budapest and many other interesting books and also games to play. We felt at home immediatley..plus staying in such a comfortble place made being in a foreign land comfortable, safe and we can't wait to go back again...

The best in Budapest
Extraordinary, comfortable, well furnished apartment in the center of Budapest. The apartments - we actually rented both Sarah and Belle - were well designed - every detail was thought of - the owner spared no expense in taking care of his guests. It would be hard to imagine a better home away from home to begin one's exploration of a magnificent city - Budapest!!
Exceptionally well set up
The Belle apartment is simply the most thoughtfully set up accommodation I have ever experienced. The location was ideal. There was wine, coffee , and a plate of pastries waiting for us when we arrived. There is a great deal of useful information about what to do and where to go, and, after testing some of it out, I didn't disagree with any of the recommendations. There was a cell phone and internet provided. All questions (ie, cab arrangements, questions regarding the washer or recycling) were promptly fielded.
Ok. There is no view to speak of, and the apartment, while clean and well appointed with quality furnishings, is not 5 star luxury. If that's a requirement, go to the Four Seasons.
Traveling can be stressful, especially for a 1st time visitor with practically zero Hungarian. From start to finish, this accommodation made our week in Budapest as relaxing and comfortable as could be imagined for a neurotic obsessive like myself.
I leaned about Budapest Vacation Rental by perusing the NYT.com travel section. I have no vested interest in the company.
My family recently stayed at SarahBelle and loved everything about it. The location was ideal, it was clean and everything was so easy. We loved the pastries, snacks and wine provided upon arrival, as we got in late and were starving. Very homey. Instructions and detergent for washing machine very much appreciated. Rides arranged, accessability and helpfulness of John before and during stay...priceless.

Pampered in Budapest
We were continually struck by the lengths to which the owner went to encourage us to love Budapest as much as he obviously does. From the amenities of the apartment (which was exactly as described on the website) , the stocked refrigerator and a welcoming bottle of wine to the informative emails prior to our arrival regarding what to do, where to eat, what to see and how to get there, it was like being pampered by our own personal concierge.
The apartment seemed to be central to everything. It was a block from the transportation hub at Deak Ferenc Ter, a block and a half from Vaci Utca (named the 7th best pedestrian street in the world) and a 5 minute walk from the open-air cafes along the Danube.
We took the owner's advice and let him arrange for our transportation from the airport. Our plane was three hours late - we were delighted to see our name on the sign being waved by our driver. In fact, we found all of the owner's suggestions that we tried to be excellent.
We rented adjoining apartments with our daughter and son-in-law. The arrangement worked wonderfully with as much or as little privacy as we desired. The furnishings were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the shower was great and the air conditioning worked quite well even in the 90° plus temperatures we had while we were there.
We have wonderful memories of our trip. My husband and I have discussed the fact that rarely have we felt as safe in a city as we did in Budapest. The people were very friendly and there was just so much to see and do. We rarely return to a city we have visited. There are simply too many places we haven't been as yet. Budapest might be the exception. We would absolutely stay at this apartment and would recommend it to all our friends.
Top-notch Service and Location in Heart of Budapest
Location is the best thing about this apt. Walking distance from everything! Or, if you choose, you are 1.5 blocks from the central subway station that can get you anywhere in town w/o changing lines. And this location is a much better price than you would pay for a mainstream hotel of the same location. Service was incredible. The owner gives you the phone number of a specific trusted cab driver in town (his wife gives private massages). A modestly stocked refridgerator, fresh pastries, and a bottle of wine awaited us upon arrival. Checkout was easy and convenient. The host has many wonderful recommendations in the city, esp Cafe Bouchon. The sleeping quarters are a bit small...but who sleeps on vacation!? We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Service, comfort, convenience and location--can't be beat!
We couldn't ask for anything more, except for cooler summer weather. Boy, did we appreciate the air conditioners when the temp was in the 90s. From the start, John, the owner arranged for a van to pick us up at the airport, us being 5 people with significant amount of luggage. With 5 of us, we rented both connecting apartments so there was ample space. The apartments were tastefully decorated with the personal touch--the book written by John's father, guide books, fiction, movies, etc. It is like someone's home, definitely not a hotel. We never had time to watch movies as we were out all day, but it was great knowing they were there if we needed them.
Do you know how lovely it is after a long flight, being up all night and weary, to arrive to an apt with the refrigerator stocked with milk, eggs, sliced meats and cheese, pastries, coffees?
The location was excellent, convenient to everything, and around the corner from the only cash machine that dealt with Euros. Ultra clean, with the most comfortable beds and couches. John made a wonderful website about Budapest that has more info than the guide books, with suggestions of things to do.
Three other fabulous amenities: wireless, a phone to call the us without charges, N'espresso coffee makers. I needed to make emergency phone calls back home for business--it was so convenient to be able to use the phone and it saved me so much money. We brought 2 computers for work and to search out restaurants on Yelp.com. Wireless made that so easy. As mentioned, the weather was so hot that it was a relief to come back to the apt and make iced espresso drinks. Just a welcome treat.
John tops my list for service oriented Vrbo owners and the best location.

Home away from home
It is obvious that these apartments are cared for personally by John Fargo. His guests feel like they’ve been invited into his family from the moment they first make contact with him. The apartments are comfortable, and in a great location, but what makes them special is John’s personalized guide to Budapest.
San Francisco, CA
We rented both the Sarah & Belle apartments and stayed for 4 days. It was an incredible experience. Location & apartments were fantastic, but what made the stay exceptional was the level of customer service. John was incredibly helpful, providing written guidelines & instructions for everything from how to use the washing machine, wireless internet and public transportation system to where to eat, buy & find all services we would need in Budapest. The level of detail of instructions & guidance made it easy to navigate the apartment & city!
The apartment was also really well-appointed with everything a traveler could need. I have stayed at a lot of apartments throughout Europe & this was the most thoughtfully appointed one I have ever seen. Apartment manager and recommended taxi service were also very helpful.
Thanks so much!!! We would definitely come again & recommend to any lucky traveler.
Perfect apartments in the Heart of Budapest.
I can't recommend these apartments enough. This was our first time in Budapest and first time renting apartments instead of staying in hotels. From the minute I inquired about them the owner John was extremely helpful and professional. The information and pictures listed were dead on. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door, shown how to use all of the amenities and taste tested the waiting snacks and wine. The units were impeccably clean and well maintained. The ability to do laundry and call back to the United States were wonderful. The location is perfect. We will definitely come back to them on future return trips to Budapest.
A great place to stay!
We were very lucky to find an apartment for our trip to Budapest. The apartment was very homey and comfortable, had a lot of personality, and far exceeded our expectations.
The location is perfect! Everything is very close -- restaurants, shopping district, market etc.
John, the homeowner is very hospitable and helpful.
We had a bottle of wine, fresh pastry and breakfast grocery in the fridge waiting for us when we opened the door! It was a very nice touch. Also, John was very helpful and assisted us in finding a good deal on train tickets to Vienna (our next destination following Budapest) and his manager Ilona booked the trip for us ahead of time. It was a great help!
Everything in the apartment is thought through, very comfortable and cozy. The bathroom is very clean and modern. The little espresso machine is a nice addition.
We can't thank John enough for thinking through each detail which made our trip very enjoyable. We followed John’s recommendations for restaurants and they were excellent advice – delicious!
A great place to stay! we will definitely recommend it!!
Central, Secure, Comfy and Clean!
We loved our eleven night stay in Budapest. SarahBelle was centrally located,
spacious, spotlessly clean and very secure. We were greeted by wine and
fresh pastries on our arrival and owner John was wonderfully helpful
throughout our stay. His attention to detail meant that every possible need
we had was catered for. From shoe polish to a sewing kit it was all there!
Located just a few metres from the main metro lines, and right next to quality
shops, restaurants and cafes, the apartments are an ideal base location for any
traveller to Budapest. The comfortable couches and cosy sleeping areas made
it a pleasure to return to the apartment and unwind at the end of a long day of
Just perfect! SarahBelle is what you want!
Three good friends on a girls trip to Budapest are so happy we chose the Sarah Belle apt. It had everything we wished for and more. Wine on the counter upon arrival, cheese and ham in the fridge, space for all our shopping bags and a perfect location - close to everything. We got and followed many of the advice from John, the more than helpful owner who answered all our questions within minutes on email before arrival, and they turned out to make our trip even more fun! Hungarian wine tasting, spa, bathing with the locals, restaurants etc. All of his suggestions were in fact true gems! Still in doubt? Don't be! The Sarah Belle is full of charm and we know you will be so happy you chose her, you too!

The beauty of Belle
This was only the second time that I opted for renting an apartment over a hotel stay, and I have to say that staying at the Belle was the best choice I could have made. Wonderful service from everyone involved, our arrival couldn't have been better with a bottle of wine and some fabulous pastries waiting for us. Don't worry if you've forgotten to pack something the kitchen and bathroom are stocked with those little odds and ends we all tend to forget.
You couldn't ask for a better location, right in central Pest and just a 5 minute walk to the Danube or to the Metro station. The apartment has all the amenities you can think of including WiFi. All in all I would have to say it was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in.

Budapest's Belle - A Great Home Away from Home.
On our first trip to Budapest a friend recommended an apartment for our 11-day stay. It was located centrally and that was what we wanted: we were there to see the sights from a convenient base.
The welcome to the Belle was warm: a bottle of Hungarian red, milk, bread, butter and a platter of mouth-watering pastries awaited us. As well, ample couches allowed us to relax and enjoy a selection of English-language movies made in Budapest. The telephone provided world-wide calls at no cost. The wireless service meant I could use my personal laptop or the apartment’s computer.
We prefer to live in, rather than visit, a city. And so the kitchen was important to us. We are not ones who eat at different restaurants each night (and there were plenty within a ten-minute walk). No, we enjoy preparing our own meals, when and how we like, and if we like. We attempt dishes using fresh local ingredients. Yes, we like to cook, but we like to cook well.
The kitchen, with a refrigerator, stove and microwave gave us the freedom to prepare those meals. The incredible coffee machine allowed us to enjoy whatever we desired: from decaffeinated to cappuccinos.
We soon realized how central we were: a wine store, a gourmet food shop, the pedestrian Vaci utja, the Danube River all but 5 minutes from our door; Deak ter, where all 3 Metro lines converge was very close; and the Grand Market was a stroll away: a stroll often interrupted by the coffee house Alibi that would distract and entice us to spend a leisurely hour with its beverages and outrageously sumptuous desserts.
Belle is a modern, spacious abode with new hardwood floors that glisten from the sun’s rays beaming in through the many large skylights. The bright bathroom and a large loft bedroom seemed custom made for us.
A washing machine and dryer were provided. There was ample storage space and an array of utensils, dishes and glassware to satisfy any epicurean whim.
It was our home away from home.
Budapest's Best Apartments
We had an awesome time in a great city staying in fabulous apartments.
the arranged airport pick-up, to the neighborhood location, to the
amenities; we loved it all.
The owner was easy to communicate with and arranged to help us plan our
trip. The apartments were well equipped and located in a great building on
top floor. We enjoyed the complimentary food awaiting our arrival and
good use of the guidebooks and maps. There were also laminated
and explanations of all the amenities (wi-fi, cable, coffee maker,
etc.) to help answer questions.
Apartment Sarah and Belle are a huge part of our memorable Budapest trip.
Having stayed in many apartments on vacation throughout Europe, I would
these two connected apartments are among the best. I look forward to
returning to Budapest with my family and staying here again!

Great apartments, perfect location.
Our visit to Budapest and our stay in apartments Sarh and Belle could not have been better. Fresh pastries waiting for our arrival, a lavishly stocked apartment right in the heart of budapest.... what more could we ask. The managers of this apartment have thought of everything (including a huge array of DVDs, internet access, mobile phones). And did I mention the N'espresso coffee makers? If you are considering renting an apartment in Budapest, I am not sure that you could find a better place to stay. We can't wait to go back.
charming & cosy + all mod cons, in a fantastic location
Not enough praise can be heaped upon the Sarah/Belle apartments. They are homely, warm, charming, modern, cosy, safe, quiet and kitted with all your needs e.g. wifi, mac, movies & book libraries.....and to top it off , a welcome treat of some of the most delicious pastries that you are ever likely to taste (also to mention the complimentary wine and fridge contents).
John provided us with a treasure of information on Budapest, which included a comprehensive guide to restaurants and cafes in the area. I must emphasis that John's guides are essential reading; interesting and witty;as are many of the books you will find in the apartments. Have a brows through some of the books and wonder at the compelling stories concerning John's father, Ladislas; and their family's history with the New York cafe (sadly, this cafe has been renovated without any hint of taste)
The location of the apartments can't be beat, a short walking distance from just about everything you will want to see in Budapest. A minute walk from the immensely beautiful (though somewhat overpriced and touristy) Christmas market; another couple of blocks and you meet the Danube.
It was a fantastic stay in a wonderful city and the the most wonderful of apartments.
I look forward to my return.

Couldn't ask for a better vacation rental experience!
In December my family stayed in Sarah, Belle and the Olive apartments. We all agreed that it was the best rental experience we've had in our travels. We were traveling with two young children (both under 2) and the apartments really fulfilled our needs. The bathroom was so well stocked we could have left our toiletry bag at home. The kitchen was complete with pots, pans, Nespresso machine, knives, plates, and the fridge was stocked with milk, eggs, cheese, salami, and pastries - not to mention a bottle of wine. Our party arrived at two different times at the Budapest airport and each party was greeted by the taxi drive John recommended and driven to the doorsteps of the apartments. My husband, son and I were the first to arrive and we were met at the apartments by the property manager who showed us around and ran through how to use the washing machine, dryer, tv, phones, etc. It was very helpful and really above and beyond what we were expecting. It was wonderful to find a place so welcoming and comfortable after a long trip with our little son. John called to check in on us twice and gave us recommendations for dinner, where to buy train tickets, and helped us find our way to the Gellert Baths. The cell phones were a fantastic and helped our large party stay in touch as we split up to see different sights. The lodging and service that John and Jeanne provide are exceptional, we don't anticipate finding another place and owner this special. Our stay in Budapest was wonderful and a large part of that is due to John and Jeanne. I cannot recommend these apartments enough! We hope to return one day.
Go Ahead, take the plunge!!! You'll be glad you did!!
My wife and I had planned the obligatory Danube cruise required of all self respecting "geezers", but just for fun, I browsed a bit on the internet to see if we might find a hotel in Budapest, our departure site, so that we might have some personal experiences there aside from the normal tour hotel, etc. Finding apartment "belle" was the result, and we could not be happier with how it all worked out. Everything our unseen host in New York, John, had advised us of was 100% spot on:we were met, given keys and a proper orientation as to how the apt. worked, provided with lots of helpful tips, and then left to enjoy three great days in a city we had never seen before. The location was perfect, and turned out to be only a 15 minute walk to our cruise rendezvous point at the very expensive hotel intercontinental. From Belle you are just around the corner, literally, from the shops and restaurants, cafes and markets which make this city so vibrant. We were so confident by the next afternoon that we took the street car out to the huge spa near the Museums and spent the afternoon with the natives soaking in the warm waters and drinking beer. The restaurant we found by wandering around the first night was so good and friendly that we ate there twice, and both times the experience was great..they even remembered us! When we left, a bit reluctantly, to join our cruise on to Germany, I told my wife I felt as though we had been a good friend's place...and indeed, I guess we had. Thanks to John and what he's done, you might have that same feeling if you take the plunge..go ahead!
Lovely stay in Budapest
We had a lovely stay in Budapest. The owner anticipates every need and
question. We especially valued the internet, air conditioning, guidebooks,
washer and dryer, iPod charger/speakers, and well supplied kitchen. The
owner was not in Hungary at the time we arrived, and his manager, while
friendly, did not really know about the electronics ~ which were confusing
somewhat. Fortunately we travelled with a computer-savvy daughter.
There is lots of written material available, and information via email prior to
arrival. We used his recommendations for airport transportation and tour
guide, and they were perfect! We had the driver pick up our son from the
airport (he arrived 2 days after we did), and he was flexible with change of
arrival time and got him to our door! Also did a market tour with Carolyn
and she came back to the apartment with us and helped prepare what we
purchased. It was a lot of fun, and a little different from the usual tourist
stuff. Our biggest headache was that the street was torn up and made it
very confusing to try to drive to near the apartment on our arrival, and we
never did figure out how to drive to the parking ramp across the way, and
parked some distance away. The location of the apartment was very
convenient to public transit and everything we needed. (There is a 24
hour/day "fast food" palacsinta place right across the street.) We took a
day trip to rural Hungary, which we enjoyed very much. Our destination was
Kolacsa, to see how paprika is grown/harvested. It was not too difficult to
find our way, and to communicate thru hand gestures and a few words of
German, though the only Hungarian we speak is the names of food!!
We stayed in apartment Sarah for three days
recently. It truly is a little treasure. Located
right bang in the middle of town, we could access
everywhere on foot. On arrival we were met by
Ilona, a representative of the owner who showed us
how everything worked and answered all our
questions. She even escorted us to the restaurant
which had been booked for us, in advance by the
owner, with whom we had corresponded several times
prior to leaving home.
We were immediately charmed by the flat which was
warm and cosy and spotless. Everything was as it
said on the website and we were impressed with the
gleaming bathroom with a top class shower.
The kitchen was well stocked with every utensil
needed and for me,star of the show was the
Nespresso coffee machine with a full range of
coffee capsules to suit every taste. We didn't
waste any time in making a cappucino each to sip
with one of the pastries left for us.
Complimentary, milk, cheese, salami and butter
meant that only a loaf of bread was required to
make a hearty breakfast next morning.
Seating, flooring, lighting and the lovely large
fig plant all ticked the boxes for us and it was so
apparent that lots of thought had gone into the
decor of this flat which made it feel like a home
The bed is situated on a mezzanine floor above the
dining area, accessed by a narrow stairs. The
double bed was most comfortable, as were the
pillows and as the apartment is in a very quiet
house we slept soundly every night.
This is a flat that one would return to again and
again as John, the owner, and his team treat
everyone as a special guest.
Best Vacation Rental Ever!
These apartments are some of the most incredible places we've ever stayed! We rented the apartment Sarah in Budapest for four nights and then the apartment Andrei from the owner, John Farago because of the good reviews. They were beyond our expections. They are centrally located, well-appointed and more comfortable than any hotel. John is a hands-on renter, getting all the details of your arrival and departure, likes and dislikes and even arranging for his competent cab driver to meet you at the airport. His driver waited a long time for us because our flight was late and the airline lost my bag but he was friendly and courteous without a hint of impatience. Then John's apartment manger, Ilona, had to wait a long time at the apartment for us to arrive but she was just as gracious and helpful. She had stocked the refrigerator with breakfast foods and milk, a huge tray of incredible pastries and John had left us a fine bottle of wine. His apartments are stocked with travel books, maps, and details of everything about budapest and his apartment, down to how to use the washing machine and fantastic espresso maker. They even left tickets for the metro system and John called before we left the U-S and offered us tickets to the sumphony which he couldn't use. You have the use of a cellular phone and free international calling, incoming and outgoing, plus a computer and free internet. John even called several times during our stay to see if we needed anything! And so did his apartment manager, Illona. I could go on and on about our perfect stay, but I will conclude by saying he's the best temporary landlord I've ever had. I only wished John rented out apartments in other cities around the world.
Not enough room to sing the Sarah/Belle praises!
We are 2 couples who travel together and have learned we require 2 separate full baths. Sarah/Belle provided 2 living spaces that could be shut off in the evenings when we parted. Although we had 2 kitchens, we only needed one to prepare the food we bought from the market. The refrigerator came with milk, cheese and slices of meat. On the counter was an expresso coffee maker (coffee provided) and a milk steamer which we enjoyed immensely every morning. We used the washer and dryer (soap included) to replenish our wardrobe. The location is in Buda near the Danube and off the central square. This allowed daily walking trips to historical sites, access the hop-on-hop-off bus and use of public transportation. The bed, upstairs in a loft, was a challenge to leave in the middle of the night but not impossible. Outside was teeming with activity day and night but inside it was quiet. The TV acted as a computer monitor with access to the Internet. The table and chairs provided a place to play games each night. We loved our Budapest experience, part of which was due to the convenience and comfort of our "home" away from home. Read more
Response from john farago - 10/23/2009
Reviews like this make us blush with pride and we hope to live up to our guests' kind words.
I hesitate to add anything but thought I should note that Sarah/Belle is actually on the Pest side of the river, a block from Vaci utca and two blocks from Vorosmarty Square. As far as location, Szervita ter, where the apartments are located, is in essentially the same spot (within 2 blocks) as the Kempinski and Meridien hotels.
I stayed at two of John Farago's apartments in
Budapest this past September. I stayed in the
Belle part of SarahBelle and it was an
extraordinary apartment centrally located. Lots of
light, top floor of a 5 story apartment building,
skylights, wood floors, just beautifully remodeled
sparing what seemed to be no expense. John's
property manager Ilona and his recommended taxi
driver Alajos also made my stay extremely
comfortable and well pampered. The additional
touches...a bottle of wine, pastries, salami and
cheese in the fridge were all unexpected and much
appreciated. I also stayed at Olive which was very
close to everything, the Metro, Vaci Utca, Central
market, the Duna but it was the lesser sister of
Belle and while extremely good for the price it was
nowhere as lively, bright, inviting as Belle. I
would stay at Olive again but would jump at the
chance to stay at Belle on my next visit to
Budapest and have heard that John's other
apartments are even more impressive (and more
Great stay in Budapest
We stayed in Belle and really enjoyed this cute apartment. The location was terrific. It was close to many of the major attractions and was only a short walk to public transportation. The apartment was nicely decorated and provided a lot of useful amenities such as free calls to the U.S. and internet access. The kitchen was equipped with everything you might need and it was a wonderful touch to have pastries, a bottle of wine and starter groceries in the refrigerator upon arrival. John, the host was very nice and went out of his way to arrange our transportation. He also provided an abundance of information on Budapest along with maps and recommendations on great places to eat. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone except for those with mobility problems. This is a loft apartment and the steps up to the bedroom are a bit steep.
We enjoyed our family vacation in Eastern European with visits to Istanbul, Budapest and Prague. By far, Budapest was our favorite city. It was a stroke of luck finding Belle and Sarah apartments on the internet. As soon as we landed in the apartment, we decided to extend our stay.
There were four of us?Mom, Dad and two daughters, ages 15 and 12. With plenty of room to spread out and relax, each apartment?s generous amenities kept everyone comfortable and happy. It was wonderful to come home to a beautiful, quiet place after a long day, while still being located in a very ?happening? area of the city.
John Farago is an excellent host. He arranged for us to be picked up at the airport. Upon arrival each kitchen was stocked with milk, eggs, Hungarian salami and a plate of delicious Hungarian pastries. Everyone loved the espresso maker complete with a choice of coffees. Our host provided copious insider tourist tips, how-to?s and maps in English, saving us time and helping us feel more confident about getting around.
Let me put it this way, ?A good Budapest guide book?$22.95, connecting with John Farago?PRICELESS?. It was great karma for me as John?s father Ladislas Farago was a friend of Ferenc Molnar, one of my favorite writers.
The only minor drawback to the apartments is that there are some steep stair/steps and angled ceilings leading to sleeping areas that may be challenging for someone with mobility limitations.
We hope to return to Budapest again as it is now one of our favorite cities. I will do my best to stay in one of John?s apartments again.

Everything we could have needed and more was there waiting for us in this beautiful apartment. There were 3 adults and 2 young adult children in our group. We rented both Sara and Belle and had plenty of room for all of us. John was very patient with answering our many questions before we even booked the apartment...everything including parking for our rental car was explained with directions and cost! We hope to go back to Budapest someday as we only saw a wee bit of this beautiful city. I would rent this apartment setting again without hesitation.

The apartments Sarah and Belle were perfect for our family vacation. Grandparents stayed in Belle and our daughter, her husband and two little ones were in Sarah. The care and thought the owners put into preparing these apartments for the guests are unprecedented. The stocked fridge, the kitchen with all necessary utensils, the welcome bottle of wine, the endless supply of coffee, loaded cell phones and VoIP free phones for international calls, toys for the kids, books and guides, and meticulous detailed instructions, made this a truly enjoyable vacation. The location is perfect. We loved the apartments and recommend them highly.
Outstanding and delightful accommodations
Easy, high quality attention to detail and comfort

includes the grand hotels in Sydney, Bangkok, and in Kuala Lumpur.
Well done John and good luck. I'm
sure you will have many happy returning guests for years to come.

An ideal apartment in Budapest
We stayed in the Sarah apartment, and found it perfect in every way: a central and very convenient location, attractive furnishings, completely equipped with everything you could possibly need, helpful information, and welcoming food. The owner was readily available by phone to answer any questions and provide additional help. Although there is a pull-out sofa in the living room, it is probably better suited to a couple. We have rented quite a few apartments in Europe, and this is one of the best.

We will return to Budapest just to stay in Sarah and Belle again
We consider ourselves so lucky to have stayed in
the Sarah and Belle apartments in beautiful
Budapest. They were clean, modern and had all of
the amenities that you could ask for. Our 2
teenage daughters stayed in one apartment and we
stayed in the other. Having the adjoining door
between the 2 made it seem like one large apartment
when we wanted it to be...and gave us privacy when
we wanted that too!
The location of these apartments could not be
better. We were able to walk to most places and
easily accessed the subway when we ventured further
afield. The post office was right across the street
and we found groceries and a bank just minutes
away. Our kids were thrilled with the many great
shopping opportunities just around the corner!
Our "host" John thought of everything to make our
stay comfortable. He called us upon our arrival to
make sure that everything was okay, and also called
just before we left to wish us well. When we first
got to the apartment we found fresh pastries and a
bottle of wine on the counter, and meat, cheese and
other staples in the fridge. The Nespresso coffee
machine was AMAZING and we had a great time trying
the different flavors. We also appreciated having
air conditioning, a washer and dryer, a computer,
and a free phone line.
John had information in the apartment related to
the area, sights, shopping, restaurants, etc.
There were maps and guide books too. He also
arranged for a cab to pick us up at the train
station. There are no negatives to this
accommodation. Staying in Sarah/Belle was definitely a highlight of our 8 week European
Everything You Could Ask For....And More
We stayed in Belle and Sarah and had a lovely time. It was close to everything, super clean, stocked with tasty treats and had the best coffee and coffeemaker! We really appreciated the comments in the visitor book and John meeting us at the apartment to give us the lay of the land and a valuble suggestions. This was the best stocked apartment I've ever stayed in. It is really nicely decorated as well.....No left-over, hand me down, college era stuff here, it was all stuff that I would like to have in my house. I highly recommend this unit and any other owned by John Fargo and his family.
A great place to stay
As two couples, we rented ajoining apartments. Both couples were delighted to find several welcoming treats such as coffee, pasteries, and a bottle of wine, as well as startup food in the fridge. The apartments were well beyond our expectation: clean, fresh and well equiped and very centrally located. What more could you want. It was the two write-ups provided by the owners, one each for inside the apartment and outside the apartment. Both got us off to a great start for our five day stay in Budapest. The apartments just added to the experience. The only minor negative was that the bedrooms were in a loft and the climb up after a days touring was a little hard.
Home away from home
Apartments Belle and Sarah are named after two daughters of the owner. John lives in the States with his family but has Hungarian
roots and owns a few apartments in the city. My husband and I were
hosting my in-laws there recently and rented both of the above mentioned
flats. We were really excited about the convenience of having two
apartments that are separate but can be joined together quite easily.
This, as you might imagine, is a lovely feature when staying with
There isn't much that I can say in the vein of bad news here.
Firstly, we felt good about our booking even before we ever got to Bp,
as John is a lovely man very concerned about his guests' satisfaction.
He is also very personable and helpful.
The apartments had everything
you could wish for, from kitchen equipment and tea, coffee, etc. to
technology, guidebooks, plenty of towels, blankets, and so forth. In
fact, one of the most pleasant features of these apartments was the fact
that they were so 'lived in'. By that, I don't mean dirty and worn down,
of course. It was almost like visiting a friend's apartment. Small
items, a modest library, plants and many other details make you feel
right at home.
To me personally, the single most wonderful thing
about the place was its location very close to Deak ter. I grew up in
Budapest and, though the town has a decent public transportation
network, I got a terrible kick out of being able to walk everywhere and
having everything at my fingertips - something that was not available to
me during my years of living there.
I realize I could go on and on
but I trust that I have given you enough to go on, should you consider
renting an apartment in Budapest. You will find John's website
Good luck and have fun exploring my lovely hometown!

Apartment SarahBelle at Szervita ter - THE BEST for a relaxing s
Our plane was delayed and we arrived very late at the airport (1:30AM). We
were met by a driver recommended by John and Jeanne, the apartment's
owners. He greeted us warmly and brought us to the beautiful Apartment
Sarah, where we were greeted with a bottle of wine, some pasties and a
refrigerator stocked with breakfast foods. It was 2:30AM, we were terribly
jet-lagged, but we knew we were home!
The sparkling-clean apartment had plenty of room for the two of us -
mother and daughter, both of whom need space and privacy. It also has
air-conditioning, great windows with views and cross-ventilation.
My daughter slept in the loft while I slept on the amazingly comfortable full
(or queen-size) bed that is created by pulling out a drawer from under the
couch (this is great....I want to buy one for my house, too). Other things I
want to buy include the fabulous N'espresso coffee-maker and the milk
frother/foamer. We had great coffee!
The kitchen is adorable. Everything's there for serious cooking, too. We'd
considered taking a market tour with John and Jeanne's friend and author,
Carolyn Banfalvi, and then cooking up our goodies, Hungarian-style but we
ran out of time.
The apartment was well-located, although both my daughter and I are
directionally-challenged and never quite figured out which way to turn
when we left the apartment. No matter. Nothing was very far. And, when
we did get a bit dis-oriented, we strayed into lovely places. The owners
had left little map cheat-sheets by the door for us, so we could place them
in our pockets and always find our way back home. I'm sure those cheat-
sheets work for most people but I've gotten lost in Brainerd, MN (pop. about
Some suggestions: The apartment has wi-fi and it's great. It also has a Mac
mini, which was hard for me to use. When I return (and I will), I'll tote along
my own laptop and, perhaps, cell phone.
I'm going back! I loved my new home in Budapest.
This is one of the best apartments we've stayed in around the world. Every single comfort we wanted was there: TV, movies, internet, cell phone, welcome food, and a Nespresso machine (which we subsuquently decided we could no longer live without, and bought our own when we returned home!)
The location was central, a very short few steps to the main shopping/attraction area, and a grocery. We walked nearly everywhere, except when it was too cold, it was easy to grab a cab home if we'd strayed too far.
John, the host, is sincere and had deep roots and appreciation for Budapest. This is reflected in all aspects of how he approaches is apartments and working with his guests.
A Home in Budapest
My partner and I stayed at Apartment Sarah for a week in October 2008 and had a fabulous experience living at Apartment Sarah. John and Jeanne are the best landlords anyone could ever possible want. Their close attention to detail in furnishing Apartment Belle left nothing to want. Apartment Sarah quickly felt like home - very relaxing, quiet and conveniently located to everything we needed and wanted to experience. The location of the apartment in Budapest was wonderful because of its close proximity to the major sites of Budapest and gave us a wonderful location to explore Budapest - on foot or via the subway. We were close to everything. The apartment has a wonderful layout in that there is plenty of room for two people, outdoor space to have a glass or two of wine in the evening and just very quiet and relaxing. The kitchen is very modern and John was installing a flat screen tv while we were there. There is a washer and dryer which helps to save on packing a lot of clothes. We would highly recommend this apartment or any of the other apartments John and Jeanne have for rent. Apartment Sarah is wonderful, Apartment Max is out of this world. We cannot wait to return to Budapest! Truly a memorable trip!
Great holiday in Budapest
The apartments were wonderful - fully equipped with the added bonus of internet and an nespresso coffee machine. The apartments were in a wonderful building, overlooking a central courtyard and only a short walk from the river and main sights. John and his wife were very welcoming and helpful and we had a wonderful holiday.
Comfortable, elegant, and I can't wait to go back to SaraBelle!
I was in Budapest a number of times for a work project in the winter and
spring of 2006. At first I stayed in hotels, but due to the nature of my work
(film editing), I needed something more spacious, more private, more flexible,
and found it all in Apt. SarahBelle. Everything about my stay was perfect, from
being met upon my arrival at the apartment, to its cleanliness, comfort,
furnishings and supplies– and, oh yes, the fabulous location! It turned my
stay from another assignment away from home to a home away from my
assignment, and enabled me to come to know and love Budapest on a level I
hadn't on any earlier visit. Since that time, I have frequently dreamt of going
back– to Budapest, yes, but SarahBelle in particular. But this time, just for the
fun of it.
Superb Rental Quality and Value
Our 2nd visit to Szervita ter at BVR and as well received as the first, with plans to return because we can?t get enough of Budapest. Reservations, staff, drivers and details are all promptly managed. The superb quality and location of the apartments rate highest from our many travels. Arriving to find the refrigerator stocked, a welcome bottle of wine and the customary communication devices ? flat screen / computer, wireless, to a guest mobile phone ? are only exceeded by the standard laundry equipment and Nespresso machine. Go George Clooney! Games, books, guidebooks, language guides, maps are all available but you simply cannot beat John Faragos website and recommendations. He knows how to get around especially to eat and drink. Stop now?look no further, book BVR. Craig Robinson & Mary Ann Crawford
My husband, two friends, and I stayed at Apartment Sarah at Szervita Ter for New Year 2008. The owner, John, was most helpful prior to our visit and had many insider's tips for us. The apartment is in a building very characteristic, it's true Bauhaus style. The apartment was very well appointed, clean, and bright. BVR even had some food and wine waiting for our arrival. The location is ideal for wandering the city, close to shopping, a grocery store, and cafes. Each day we looked forward to coming "home" to the apartment, after a brisk winter's day of sightseeing. We felt like locals by the end of our visit.
A great experience in Sarah and Belle
What a great experience. The location was perfect. This has to be the best vacation Apartment ever. I can't thank John and Jeanne enough for all the extra amenities provided to us. The ability to phone home to Canada was a real bonus. We were coming off of a river cruise in Budapest so had an early arrival to the apartment. John arranged for our bags to be kept at the apartment till they were ready for us later that afternoon. We and our travelling friends loved the 2 apartments. We were together, yet had our privacy. We felt right at home enjoying the wine, pastries and Nespresso machine provided for us. We hope to one day return and would recommend these apartments to our family and friends.

Apartments Sarah and Belle at Szervita ter
We recently stayed in two adjoining one bedroom apartments with our friends from England. The owner of the property resides in NYC for the majority of the year. They spend their summer in Budapest. The apartments were lovely and fully
stocked with everything you need to get your vacation started...a
bottle of wine...fresh pastries/rolls and snacks in the
refrigerator. One of the best things about renting Sarah and Belle is
the location...a few doors from a great wine store and just a little
further a big shopping district with lots of stores and restaurants.
Not too far in another direction is Gerloczy's, which became our
favorite haunt. It is a lovely cafe where you can have something to eat
and drink. From a first day to our last night, our waiter took good care of us...always remembering what we drank (house
red wine (quite good) for the ladies and Dreher beer (also very good)
for the gents. if
you would like to get more information. They have gone to alot of
trouble to give you so much information not only about their apartments
but also about the city. And...if this isn't enough, the owner will answer
your endless e-mails...no matter how stupid your questions may be. We
haven't tried their other apartments (another trip :)?) but the only
thing we have to warn you about Sarah and Belle is that the sleeping
quarters are raised up some steps and may not be good for an older or
not so fit person to negotiate. Each apartment does have a sofa bed on
the living level. And....we loved the city with all the bridges and
Budapest is quite the walking city. We did not have enough time to
see everything and visit all the good restaurants.
